“Squads Alpha to Echo do you read” one of the communication officers says in an urgent tone.
With a sigh I pick up the call “This is Bravo 3, what do you need command, Over” I say using a neutral tone, while adjusting my C-100 into formation after being nudged over by a stray gust of wind.
“We had lost all squads singles, from Alpha through Echo. Is there an explanation Captain, Over”
“Command I don’t know why we are all here and still flying on course, I haven’t seen anything that would disrupt the single, Over”
“That is all Captain, Out”
With I sigh I turn back to my co pilot, a smirk on her face as we continue to fly on course towards England. “And what pre tell is so funny” I ask him a smile spreading on my face.
“Well the fact we ignored command for two hour straight” He says bursting into a fit of laughs as our radio buzzed to life as the other pilots and squadron leaders began communication freely, the little joke now over.
“How did all of you even talk me into this anyways Lieutenant?” I ask focusing on the task at hand.
“Well, with all this crazy shit going on, we all need a good laugh hear and there. Besides command deservers to be put in there place every once in a while sir. Also stop being so formal, you know my name and its not like we are at base” My co-pilot says still smirking and leaning back in her seat not a care in the world.
“Lieutenant, I like the protocols for a reasons, now please stop leaning about, I’m trying to fly this and all this turbulence and crossing streams from the other plans is making it difficult”
“Please sir, we’ve all read your file. Back in the day you where a bad ass, with a capital A.S.S. It even said on your file that you where deemed a “loose cannon”” She said using air quotas.
With a deep sigh I tried to ignore her and carry on with my task, it was due to that disgraceful report I turned into the perfect solider. I always follow protocol, I never disobey an order and I always do my paper work and hand it in on time no matter how pointless it is, and ever since I was partnered with Lieutenant Lax.
Yes her name is Lax she earned the nickname Relaxed and it fits her quite well. If I wasn’t so up tight we would probably be very close by now but after commands report on me I’ve been forced to keep myself under check. And once I left my report on my desk she made photo copies of it somehow and within several minutes nearly everyone on base had read it. I still have now idea how she did it and when ever I ask, she starts flirting.
A smile spreading on my face I turn to look at her, she was wearing the normal pilot uniformed for combat missions. An oval green jump suit littered with pockets, why so many pockets no one knows, all we do is store random junk in them. Anyways, her uniform as usually wasn’t up to standers, it wasn’t ironed or clean, her boots from what I saw before where surprisingly tied but she wore her blond hair down to her neck instead of a nice bun like the manual demands. But as I continued to look her over I always get side tracked like any man and look at her chest Thankfully she had her uniform done up all the way which gave me the strength to look away and at her deep green eyes which where already boring into me. And then the one thought that every man who gets caught passed through me for the tenth time that month. “Fuck”.
“That’s not proper sir, I can have you reported for sexual harassment sir” She says laughing at me as I quickly turn away and fumble to put my sun glasses on.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about Lieutenant I was simply inspecting your uniform” As soon as the words came out of my mouth I mentally face palmed for I just gave her fuel to the fire.
“Looked like you where doing more then inspecting my uniform” She said leaning over her side of the cockpit surprisingly not touching any of the sensitive equipment just to get into my space. “Did you find that I was up to standards? Sir?” She said in one of the must seductive tones she uses when ever I make this mistake.
“Knock, knock. Am I interrupting anything love birds?” a voice said from behind us. I both thank and curse fate for this, for now I have to deal with another rumor about me and Lax, but he caused her to quickly go back to her seat and do work. This normally means she is embarrassed. And so I do a quick turn of my head and see Sergeant Morrow an average sized but very muscular black man and one of Lax’s friends made him quite the joker. And he happened to be standing in the door wearing combat fatigues ready for combat which could mean only one thing. We are nearing full might of humanity.
After losing connection to Britain, several teams where sent to investigate. What we learned was that Britain was invaded, and the enemy was dug in deep and anything else the High command kept it to themselves leaving us in the blind. So the High command basically ordered a full assault on multiple fronts, the UK defended the shores and prepared teams to move across to Britain while Canada, America and other countries who where convinced to assist scent there forces to a singular location a hundred kilometers off the shores of Britain, where we’ll launch a full scale assault by air, and sea.
With a deep sigh I spoke “No your not Sergeant. Now why are you here?”
“Just wanted to remind you where we are going to be dropping in so there’s no problems, Sir” He said the smile that never leaves his lips beaming at me trying to make me give in to my urges of having some actual fun instead of being what I am.
“Thank you Sergeant” I said turning my head back to what’s in front of me which was a good hundred assorted bombes, transport plans and fighter jets. Which on any normal day would be a sight to see, but after seeing it for several hours, it’s just normal.
“Bravo 3. This is Overseer 7. Do you confirm? Over.” The radio buzzed in my ear.
Pressing the speak button on my head sit I replied “This is Bravo 3, Overseer 7. What do you need? Over.”
“Confirmation on Bravo attack plan. Over”
“We are in formation to assault the Beach and give support to landing crafts. Over”
“That’s alls Bravo 3. Out” And with that the radio went dead yet again except for chatter which I block out, most of it being meaning less such as “What are we fighting”. “How are your kids”, “When do you think we’ll be back” and other things that don’t need to be on my mind.
“So Captain! What do you think we are going up against? Do you think its terrorists? Or do you think its some zombie out break!” Lax says a little to happy about the zombies, but then again I always wanted to live to see the day just so I can say I knew it. “Well Captain, don’t just ignore me”
I sighed “I’m thinking Lieutenant. And I don’t think its any of those, and I hope I’m wrong”
“Well… what is it then Sir?”
“Demons”
“What?”
“I said Demons, as in beings from another dimension” I reply as I thought back to all my crazy predictions back as a teenager when I had a vision of a war between monsters and man.
“Ha! I knew you where crazy!” Lax says esthetically before going back to relaxing in her seat no longer embarrassed from Morrow’s comment.
I turn my head and look down through one of the lower windows of my plane and I can see that we are now flying over the fleet, an armada for nearly four thousand ships from supply vessels to destroyers to tug boats it was a force to be reckoned with. And still I was unimpressed.
“Didn’t they say ten thousand ships?” Lax said
“Yeah, but we all know command lies to give us moral. They also said we’ll be dropping half a million men from air. But I did the math and we are only dropping a hundred thousand at most plus what ever else is in the back of the plans” I reply
“It’ll be nice if they could be truthful”
I simply nod my head agreeing with her, since all command does is hide Intel from us which causes us to lose the fights and causes good people to die. I look up and notice the plans in front of me gaining speed, and so I adjust my flight and throttle. The attack had begun and the radio was eerie quite.
