Chapter 10: Manehatten, Here we Come!

Dash was slightly confused as she trotted alongside Spitfire as they came out of the Wonderbolt headquarters and onto the vast cloud stadium where a giant blue and yellow blimp was centered, on it’s side it proudly adorned the Wonderbolt’s symbol.

Dash leaned over to Spitfire, “why are we using a blimp again?” she asked.

Spitfire smiled. “We’re using it so we can avoid wing injuries and it stops us from using up all our energy… you're not scared of blimps, are you?” she asked.

Dash shook her head. “Not that I know of,” she replied putting a forehoof to her chin as she pondered. Spitfire just giggled as the pair came up to the vast piece of flying technology that nearly matched the arena itself in size.

The two Pegasi walked up the small steps and into the large cabin area of the blimp, only to see the rest of the team ready and waiting for them.

Spitfire smiled warmly at the other Pegasi. “Hey guys, glad to see you all made it,” she said happily.

Soarin turned around to see both mares entering the cabin. He held a knowing smile on his face towards his captain making Spitfire blush slightly in embarrassment.

Rapid Fire was the first to speak, “Yeah cool, but could you all stop speaking so loud, my hangover’s real bad,” he said putting a hoof to his ear massaging it slightly.

Everypony muffled their own giggles before Blaze spoke up, but kept a quiet tone as to not disturb his friend further. “Well, we better get going before Mr. Sweden over here starts telling everypony about his adventures when he was drunk.”

Soarin snapped his head round to face the stallion. “Hey I’ve only told a few of those stories,” he said trying to hide the inner truth.

Blaze tried to hold in his laughter as Soarin sighed. “Fine, I do it a lot okay, but I don’t do it on purpose!” he defended, raising his voice.

Rapid Fire turned towards his lieutenant with a clearly annoyed look on his face. Soarin smiled sheepishly as Blazing trotted away from the scene with a confident smirk on his face.

After a few moments of awkward silence everypony settled down as the Blimp started to move. Soarin went up to the top deck to read something whilst Blaze and Rapid held a small and quiet conversation.

Spitfire sat on one of the sofa’s in the lounge area whilst Dash on the same couch but a few feet away from her idol. She was currently staring off into the distance and had been for a while, thinking about something. Spitfire raised an eyebrow and looked over at her marefriend with a mixture of worry and confusion. “Hey Dash...what’s the matter?” she asked.

Dash didn’t respond, she had been in-depth thought about Spitfire’s brother and the argument he had just held a few moments ago with Soarin… If he was like this towards Soarin for something as small as telling a few stories once in a while... then how would he react to her and Spitfire.

This made the sky blue mare think more about what Spitfire had said earlier that day about her family… how her parents wouldn’t approve… she started to wonder about the fact of everypony not approving... the rising nerves in her chest began to increase with her heart rate as she began to wonder what Blaze would do when he found out…and then the whole of Equestria.

Suddenly Rainbow started to hear the faint sounds of laughter in her head as a very vivid memory came to the front of her mind…she knew exactly what it was like to be known as a fillyfooler.

...

Rainbow remembered the day clearly in her mind, it just started out like any other day in her high school. She’d just come out of her weather manipulation class and was heading down the corridor towards the locker rooms to meet with her friend Fluttershy.

Just as she rounded the corner into another long corridor three large figures trotted after her. Rainbow rolled her eyes in annoyance when she heard the all too familiar laughter from behind her and turned around to face three stallions all with smug grins attached to their faces.

Rainbow groaned. “What do you want now?!” she asked in an annoyed tone.

One of the stallions with a brown coat and mane spoke up, “Oh don’t mind us, Rainbow Crash, we’re just enjoying the school day,” he explained sarcastically whilst his two accomplices snickered in response.

Rainbow immediately began to feel her blood rise as she spoke, “Just leave me alone, okay? I don’t need you losers following me around,” she said the anger evident in her tone.

Hoops waved a hoof. “What ever, Rainbow Crash, you couldn’t take us on if you tried,” he said doing his best to rile up the sky blue mare.

Rainbow felt something snap, she felt her frustration peak. She threw off her saddlebag and flared her wings ready for a fight, but when the bags fell to the cloud floor, a certain item slid out from the bags and over to the three bullies.

Hoops smirked as he picked the item up in his hoof, it was a book that had the words 'diary' written on the front cover. Hoops raised an eyebrow at the mare who was still keeping her defensive stance, but with a look of fear in her eyes.

Hoops turned the book round so Dash could see what the front cover read. “Oh! what’s this?” he asked sarcastically.

Dash felt her heartbeat slow down as the nerves started to swell up inside her. “I-it’s just a, book why would I care?” she said trying to keep a casual tone.

Hoops smiled as he looked between the other stallions. “Okay then, you wont mind if we take a look then,” he said grinning.

Rainbow knew she was out of options. She felt like fainting when Hoops opened the book and started to flick through the pages, but rather than his grin growing, it faded slightly as an annoyed look appeared on his face. “What?! It’s just a bunch of notes about to-do lists!” he said clearly annoyed.

Rainbow felt the relief poor over her and she was about to speak up when the sound of the brown stallions hoof slamming on a page stopped her actions.

The grin that had faded now came back to the brown stallion as he read intently over the pages of the book. Then all three stallions reading the current pages burst out in laughter as Rainbow started to cower slightly.

Hoops turned to the corridor that was now slightly buzzing with ponies trotting to their next classes. “Hey guys! Check out who Rainbow Crash wants to rut!” he shouted.

All the ponies turned and made their way over to the book as Hoops pointed to the page in the diary. The ponies looked at the page then also started to laugh as Hoops turned the diary around to show Dash what everypony had been looking at.

On the page was something Dash remembered very well and her heart sank slightly as she looked at the cut out picture of the newest member of the Wonderbolts with a love heart drawn around the page with some words scribbled on the page.

Hoops laughed. “Ha, look everypony! Rainbow Crash is a fillyfooler!”

Everypony started to laugh and after a few moments they were all chanting the words, “Rainbow Crash is a fillyfooler!”

Rainbow was cowering in the corner in a fetal position against the lockers. She tried to counter their claims. ”I-I don't have a crush on her! I just think that she is really... cool.”

Hoops couldn’t stop laughing at this point. “Ha! Cool? I don’t think that is what the hearts mean?”

'No, this can't be happening. This is just a simple crush... everpony has one… I'm not a fillyfooler, Rainbow thought to herself as the laughter escalated.

Hoops spoke up from everypony’s frantic giggling, “You don’t even have a chance of getting her, Crash, she wouldn't even look in the direction of somepony like you!”

Rainbow was now on the verge of tears, this just couldn’t be happening. Making a quick escape Rainbow burst down the hallway and away from the chanting crowd as fast as her hooves could take her…

Then everything faded to black...

After a few moments of utter silence, another voice spoke through her mind “Rainbow Dash…”

Dash knew that voice, but she couldn’t tell who it was until it became a million times louder as she was brought back to reality.

Dash!” Spitfire shouted making the mare jump slightly as she turned round to face the yellow pony.

Spitfire’s eyes were now full of concern. “Dash are you alright baby?” she asked in a soft, caring tone.

Dash nodded slightly still coming down from her dream. “Y-yeah I’m cool,” she lied, trying to shake off the current feeling in her chest.

Spitfire still kept a concerned look and reached a hoof over to Dash’s face and wiped away the lone tear which had started to etch it’s way down her cheek.

Dash sighed knowing the game was up. Spitfire could see Dash was tense and motioned for her to follow as she got up of the sofa and made her way down the cabin.

Spitfire opened a door and motioned with her head for Dash to go into the room with her. Once they were in, Spitfire closed the door and locked it before turning round to face Dash who had sat down on one of the beanbag chairs in what was another relaxation room.

Spitfire sat down on the same bag and wrapped a comforting wing around Dash as she spoke, “I thought this would be better to talk, something seemed to really be bothering you,” she said knowingly looking over to her marefriend.

Dash breathed out shakily, Spitfire tightened her grip around her wing as the sky blue mare spoke, “I-I was… bullied a lot in my highschool… these three jerks I never really paid much attention to them...but one day they found out, about me liking mares…and they just showed my diary to everypony... I-I couldn’t go back there for weeks,” she said letting a few more tears fall.

Spitfire immediately wrapped both her wings around the younger mare as she stroked her mane. “Hey, it’s okay, Dash… you don’t have to worry about ponies like that anymore,” she said comfortingly.

Dash nodded as Spitfire nuzzled her cheek, “I know but… you said that your family wouldn’t approve of us being together,” she replied.

Something seemed to click in Spitfire's mind, she instantly knew what Dash was getting at. She smirked, “Dash...I said my parents would, you think Blazing is dumb enough to even try to hurt you the way these jerks did?” she asked quizzically.

Dash opened her mouth to say something but Spitfire cut her off, “Dash... Blazing knew about you know... me liking you a few weeks before the Gala, so he’s known for a while now and besides he wouldn’t be insulting you, otherwise he’ll have me to deal with,” she said with a devilish grin.

Dash’s face brightened up at this and she let out a muffled giggle. “Yeah… I guess you’re right,” she said with a smile.

Spitfire returned the smile warmly and she leaned over and gave her marefriend a kiss on the cheek. “That’s good to hear, Dash,” she said happily.

Spitfire got up of the chair as she looked over towards the clock in the room. “Oh… I’ve got to go see Silver about the Manehatten performance schedule,” she said turning back to Rainbow. “Is there anything else you need?”

Dash shook her head softly and Spitfire leaned over to give her mare another hug as she spoke, “What does this Hoops look like?”

Rainbow was taken slightly off guard by the question. “Um...brown coat and brown mane… he also has basket balls for a cutie mark… why?” she asked curiously.

Spitfire smiled warmly and nuzzled a spot behind Dash’s ear as she whispered softly, “Because, if I ever see him hurting you like that again, or even coming anywhere near you, I’m going to break his face,” she said with a determined tone of voice.

Dash muffled a giggle. “You don’t need to do that, Spitfire, I think I can handle him now,” she said confidently.

Spitfire nodded in response. “I know you can, Dash. But your my marefriend and I’m not going to let anypony treat you like that,” she replied before releasing the hug and walking to the exit of the room.

Dash’s face was now full of pride and confidence. She turned to the yellow mare just about to leave the room and spoke up, “Thanks, Spitfire. That really means a lot.”

Spitfire rolled her eyes playfully. “You need to stop with the thank you’s Dash… just think of me doing my marefriend duties,” she said as they both let out a giggle before she continued, “I’ll come back and check on you later Dash… and I expect a reward for my help,” she said with a wink, making the sky blue mare blush slightly before she left the room heading back down the corridor.

As Spitfire trotted away Dash couldn’t help thinking about how much she really did thank Spitfire, how she couldn’t thank her enough for all the things she had done. She pondered more on the thought as a new feeling started to come over her body...she didn’t know what it was, but she did know that through thick or thin, through rain and shine she would always be by Spitfire and she knew that the Pegasus would do just the same for her… but little did Dash know as the blimp made it’s way towards the big city of Manehatten just how much of these new feelings and thoughts would be tested…
