Chapter 16: The morning After

Rainbow Dash slowly opened her eyes, she saw the faint light of the morning sun cascading through the door of the bedroom filling the room with a faint orange hue. The next thing Rainbow noticed was a warm, snug feeling. She moved her eyes downwards to see many gold feathers that had curved themselves around her body. Dash then moved her eyes back up as she then noticed Spitfire’s muzzle only a few inches away from where she lay.

A small smile came to her face as she saw her lover curled up next to her sleeping soundly, the small breaths from her mouth washing across Dash’s muzzle. The sky blue mare snickered from the ticklish feeling it gave her which began to awake the yellow mare by her side.

Spitfire yawned cutely as she regained her lost senses, she rubbed one eye with a forehoof as she came to. Spitfire grinned happily when she saw her marefriend laying next to her. The golden mare leaned over and kissed the mare softly on the lips.

“Good Morning Dashie, how was your sleep?” she whispered lovingly.

Dash blushed slightly, “well, I’m not really sure we did get much sleep anyway,” she said hesitantly.

Spitfire smirked mischievously. “Yeah, but it was fun right?”

Dash nodded before responding, “yeah I guess you're right,” she said with a smirk.

Spitfire leaned over again this time planting a kiss on the mare’s soft cheek, Dash let out a small laugh as Spitfire began peppering kisses all over her upper body.

“Spitfire..hehe..s-stop it,” Dash said fighting the urge fall into a fit of laughter.

Just when the blue mare thought she could take no more, Spitfire retraced from her and nuzzled into her neck lovingly as she whispered, “so what is it you want to do today?”

Dash pondered over the thought for a few moments before responding, “how about we go see a show, you know I played as a main character for the Canterlot in the hearths warming eve pageant,” she said confidently.

Spitfire wore a look of surprise at this latest piece of news, “my marefriend likes plays does she?” she asked amusingly as she reached a hoof over to stroke Rainbow’s mane.

Dash nodded sheepishly. “Well...kinda, but I like performing in plays rather than watching them,” she said happily remembering the moments she spent on Canterlot’s big stage. Spitfire just giggled to herself before she slowly got out of the bed shaking her head playfully as she pulled the covers back before trotting towards the exit of the room.

Dash raised an eyebrow. “Hey where are you-”

“I’m just going to check if anything came out in the papers about last night’s fiasco,” Spitfire answered as she made her way out of the room, “you just stay their Dash, I’ll be back in a flash."

Spitfire put a forehoof to her mouth and she yawned again as she made her way towards the elevator. She sighed and pressed the button in the elevator as it started to descend towards the ground floor of the hotel. She looked in the large mirror which was plastered on one of the walls of the elevator. Spitfire turned to the mirror and started matting down her dishevelled hairstyle just opting to leave it to it’s more natural style where her hair simply just hung low over the right side of her head.

The doors to the elevator opened revealing the large lobby floor which spanned out in front of her, Spitfire trotted out into the large hall. She made her way over to the oval desk in the center of the lobby. Spitfire looked over to the desk in question and saw a familiar pale blue stallion waiting at the lobby anxiously with a letter held tightly in his hoof.

Spitfire got in earshot of the stallion before speaking up, “hey Soar, what’s up?” she asked happily coming up to the pony.

Soarin looked around and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the golden mare making her way over to him, “hey Spit, hows it going?” he asked slightly hesitant.

Spitfire raised an eyebrow, “what’s with you Soar, your not usually this nervous,” she said with a hint of worry.

Soarin didn’t respond and just handed the mare a white envelope. Spitfire took it as he spoke, “Silver wants to see you as soon as possible, just know Spit I won’t let anypony get in the way of you and Dash if the worst is to come,” he said confidently.

Spitfire though had gone completely silent, she knew what the stallion was on about. She felt a pain in her chest rise as she thought about what she was going to find when she got to Silver’s office.

Taking a shaky breath Spitfire managed a nod, “thanks Soar, I knew I could count on you,” she said with a small smile.

Soarin nodded. “As always Spitfire, I’ll see you around,” he said returning to his normal attitude as he trotted out of the hotel.

Spitfire looked down at the letter she had been given, another chill ran down her spine. She sighed heavily knowing what she would have to go through today and for the next few months. She looked back over towards the elevator before trotting over to it and heading back up to the hotel suite.

Dash was currently looking through the fridge in the small kitchen of the hotel when she heard the sound of the elevator door’s opening, she turned round and her face lit up at the sight of her marefriend, “hey Spitfire, are you alright?” she asked.

Spitfire thought it best to keep what she thought a secret from her marefriend for the time being, she didn’t want to trouble her marefriend right after she’d confessed her love to her.

With this in mind the golden mare opted to simply smile as she trotted into the apartment, “I’m fine Dashie, I’ve got to go see Silver as soon as possible though,” she stated as she trotted over to the mare.

Dash raised an eyebrow. “Why, we haven’t got more training have we?” she asked hesitantly feeling her wings starting to ach.

Spitfire shook her head dismissively. “No no, I’m just heading over their for some…planning... for the show,” she said hoping her cover up would work.

Rainbow kept her eyebrow raised as she scanned the mare, Spitfire smiled sheepishly hoping Dash hadn’t discovered something was wrong.

To Spitfire’s relief however Rainbow’s face softened and she nodded, “Okay then just don’t be too long,” she said nuzzling the mare affectionately.

Spitfire nuzzled back before speaking, “okay, I promise I’ll still be back in time for us to do something together,” she said happily.

Spitfire leaned over and kissed the mare before saying, “I’ll see you later Dashie, I love you,” she whispering into her partners ear.

Dash smiled happily, “I love you too Spitfire,” she said giving her marefriend a quick hug.

After a few more moments the mares parted, Spitfire gave her marefriend one last kiss on the cheek before leaving the room and heading towards the exit of the apartment once again.

As Spitfire walked she took the letter she had left in the elevator and pressed the button to go back down, she thought about what was going to happen, was she going to lose her job… or worse. The thoughts buzzed through the mares mind and she felt the nerves start to build in her stomach.

She sighed... today wasn’t going to be the best of days.
