Chapter 15: Another Night Out
Spitfire watched as the team completed yet another full routine. She sighed and looked over at the giant clock that hung from the right side of the large arena. Upon noticing the time, she came to the decision that it was about time she gave the team a break, despite Silver’s orders to keep training till the end of the day.
Spitfire picked up her whistle and blew on it, signalling the Wonderbolts to finish up. One by one they began to drop out of the sky and land on the soft surface of the arena. Spitfire smiled in amusement at her worn out colleagues. “Great work today you guys. I think that’s enough training for one day, so who’s hitting the club tonight?” she asked happily.
Soarin was the first to respond to the captain’s question. “Well, since we’ve got the weekend off, I guess I’ll go. You coming too, Rapid?” he asked as the stallion got himself up off the ground.
Rapid Fire nodded. “Sure, why not, but I’m not going to be anypony’s wingpony for any mares if that’s what you’re wanting,” he said knowingly.
Soarin waved a hoof dismissively. “Since when have I ever needed one of those,” he said confidently. Rapid Fire just chuckled lightly in response as the pair made their way towards the exit of the stadium.
“Anypony else going to join us?” Spitfire asked curiously, looking down at the two remaining members of the team.
Blazing looked over at Dash before speaking, “Yeah sure, why not? If everypony else is going,” he said happily, his tone of voice sparking some confusion from his golden sibling.
Dash nodded approvingly. “Heck yeah, why wouldn’t I?” she asked rhetorically.
“Great!” Spitfire exclaimed as she trotted with the three towards the locker rooms of the stadium. “Let’s get these uniforms off first,” she said.
Dash nodded. “Sure, so what club are we going to?” she asked curiously.
Blazing looked over at Spitfire who shrugged. “I don’t know, we’ll meet up with Soarin once we get ready,” she said happily.
Soon all three ponies reached the locker rooms of the stadium; the lockers didn’t have anything on them to signify whose locker it was, but they used the numbers as a ranking system: Spitfire being at number one and Dash at number five. The three ponies each dumped their uniforms in their lockers, before making their way towards the exit of the stadium.
Soarin and Rapid Fire awaited eagerly outside the large stadium, they heard the noise of an opening door, and turned around to see all the other ponies in the team exiting the building.
Spitfire looked between both the stallions as she came up them. “Sooo... where are we going tonight?” she asked with a mix of excitement and curiosity.
Soarin smirked. “Only to the biggest night out in Manehatten; we’re going to Club Stratosphere!” he said excitedly.
Blazing’s eyes widened in shock. “No, way! They say you have to book months in advance to get into that place!” he said in astonishment.
Soarin rolled his eyes. “That’s exactly what I did,” he said knowingly.
Blazing’s attitude towards Soarin was now making not only Spitfire curious, but now Rapid and Soarin himself.
The pale blue stallion smiled nervously. “Well, we might as well get going,” he said happily as the team began to trot off into the center of the big city.
The big lights of Manehatten were a sight to behold as the five ponies trotted through the main city streets if the giant city. The bustling streets were as busy as ever and the Wonderbolts had to squeeze their way through the crowds to get to their destination.
As they broke through another wave of ponies, Soarin looked up in amazement at the large neon lights of the Club Stratosphere. The beats could be heard emanating from inside as the five ponies closed in on the location.
There was a large line outside of the club where many ponies stood, eagerly hoping they would be lucky enough to enter. Soarin motioned for the team to follow him as he trotted right up towards the entrance of the club, where two large guard ponies stood blocking the doors into the building.
One of the guards looked down to see the advancing ponies. “Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to move to the back of the line,” he said sternly.
Soarin felt a smirk forming on his lips. He slipped a hoof into his jumpsuit and pulled out a reservation form, he handed it over to the guard who snatched the piece of paper from the Wonderbolt before reading it. His eyes scanned over the page as he raised an eyebrow before looking back up at the ponies.
The guard nodded. “Sure, right this way, Mr Soarin,” he said, pushing open the door and letting the five ponies in after him.
The Wonderbolts trotted down the dark hallway towards the center of the nightclub. The excitement in the air was enough to hype up anypony, as they trotted down the dark tunnel a light started to engulf the darkness until all the ponies were revealed to the large club.
Rainbow Dash recognized the beats coming from the decks centered at the far side of the club. She looked up and her excitement nearly hit the roof when she saw her friend, Vinyl Scratch, on the decks of the clubs stereo system. The white unicorn was currently playing a very heavy bass which sent vibrations running through the clubs flooring like an electrical explosion, sending shock-waves to the ponies dancing in the club.
The five ponies were quickly bunched together into the masses of crowds currently dancing to the beats of the music playing through the huge speakers which hung from the clubs ceiling only seeming to amplify the sound of the clubs music.
Dash looked over to Spitfire, who was already enjoying the sounds of the music. She was currently bouncing up and down in rhythm with the other ponies enjoying the beats, she turned to Dash and held out her forehooves motioning for Dash to take hold. The sky blue mare complied and took hold of her marefriend’s hooves as she began to follow the rest of the crowd.
As the beat continued Dash felt her enjoyment rise, she had a smile a mile wide spread across her face, she could see the rest of the team all joining in. Dash couldn’t remember how long ago she had done something as enjoyable like this and in the comfort of her marefriend; she never wanted it to end.
After a few moments though, Vinyl started to slow down the tone of the music, going into a more subtle tone. All the ponies started to calm down and catch their breath. Spitfire hugged her marefriend happily, something that caught Dash off guard. The Pegasus stumbled slightly but didn’t resist to hug back.
Spitfire released the hug as she spoke, “That was so amazing! We’re totally doing this more often!” she said excitedly.
“I know, I told you Vinyl was awesome!” Dash replied knowingly.
Spitfire nodded in approval as Soarin and the others came up to the mares. “Well that certainly took all the energy out of me,” Soarin said as he breathed in a few needed gulps of precious oxygen.
Rapid rolled his eyes. “You need to get some more exercise, Grampa. Right Blazing?” he said, leaning his head back as he looked towards the stallion in question. Blazing didn’t even acknowledge the stallion, something which surprised everypony in the small group.
Before anypony could question this, a new beat started up. Soarin looked between all the ponies nervously. “How about I go fetch us some drinks?” he asked.
All the ponies held in their laughter and managed a nod, Soarin nodded and headed off towards the bar. Spitfire turned to look at the rest of the ponies in the group. “So, anypony else up for some more?” she asked.
…
After a few more minutes of dancing everypony got tired, mostly from the hard days training. All of them were now at the the side of the club where a few tables where situated next to the bar.
Spitfire sat next to Dash on one of the bar stools as the pair played a few drinking games. Spitfire thanked the bartender as he gave her two identical shots, Spitfire set the two drinks on the table and slid one over to the sky blue mare.
Dash held the drink in her hand and raised an eyebrow. “Soo… what do we do again?”
Spitfire muffled a giggle. “Okay, so first you take the shot, now it’s really spicy so... longest to hold out before they have to take a drink is the winner,” she explained, pointing to the bottle of the water in front of them.
Dash nodded, her old confidence coming back to her. “Let's do this,” she said confidently, gripping the small glass. Spitfire grinned competitively as she too took the glass and counted down.
3...2...1...go!
Both Pegasi quickly lifted their drinks and chugged down the small glasses of alcohol, they then proceeded to slam the drinks back down on the table as they waited for the effects to sink in.
Dash felt normal for the first few seconds before a tingling sensation began to form in the back of her throat. But before she could react, the burning sensation erupted across her tongue and anywhere else the drink had managed to get to, soon her mouth was burning at the seams.
The mare looked over at Spitfire, she could tell by her marefirend’s usually golden cheeks turning a shade of red that she too was under the same burning frenzy Dash was encountering. Rainbow's eyes then quickly darted over to the bottle of water, she felt her body scream for the cool refreshment as she studied the clear liquid.
Finally Dash’s body took over her control and she quickly grabbed the bottle of water. She ripped the bottle cap off with her teeth before gulping down the cold beverage, the freezing liquid reliving her burning insides. Dash sighed happily when she felt the last of the burning sensation ebb away, she turned over to Spitfire who held her forehooves out to the mare like a foal wanting their mother. Dash looked down at the bottle she was holding and realized what it was the golden pegasus was wanting, she quickly tossed the bottle over to the mare who drank the remaining liquid in the bottle before giving an equal sigh in satisfaction.
“Well...I guess you won that time,” Dash said in a rather annoyed tone.
Spitfire smiled and leaned over as she gave the mare a quick peck on the cheek. “It doesn't matter, Dash. Maybe you can win something else tonight instead,” she said with a wink. Dash blushed slightly at the comment. Suddenly, the faint sound of a voice calling over to the mares roused the Pegasi, they both looked over to one of the tables close to the bar. Spitfire saw Soarin motioning with a hoof for her to come over.
The golden mare turned back to Rainbow. “I’ll be back in a sec,” she said giving the mare another kiss before trotting over towards the rest of the team.
Dash sighed and motioned to the bartender for another drink, she propped her face up with a forehoof on the bar stand. Suddenly, a voice spoke up, one that shocked the mare to the core.
”Hey, Rainbow Crash… what brings you here?” Hoops snarled as Dash quickly turned around to confirm her deepest fears.
The blue mare felt her mind freeze instantly, then shattering into a thousand pieces. Standing before her was a large brown stallion, even larger than Dash remembered him as in high school. His presence still made Dash seem to shrink to the size of a filly though.
The stallion advanced on the mare as he spoke, “So, Crashie. Are you here for some fillyfooling, or are you still chasing after that hot mare… what’s her name?” he asked, taking Dash’s drink and gulping down the contents.
Dash, though, was nothing but a motionless object, she couldn’t find the words to speak as fear started to freeze not only her mind, but her body as well. She only hoped Hoops didn’t realize how vulnerable she was right now.
To Rainbow’s relief, however, the stallion did look on the slightly tipsy side, but this only made him more agitated. “Well?! Are you going to speak, Crash! Or are you going to sit there and hope some bitch is going to take you away to fairyland,” he said as the anger in his voice started to rise over the mares incapability to speak.
Meanwhile over at the table, Spitfire was still in conversation with Soarin. The golden mare glanced over at the bar, and spotted Rainbow sitting next to a stallion. She thought nothing of it at first, but then her eyes caught the stallion’s cutie mark.
Spitfire remembered what Dash had said about the stallion who adorned those marks, her eyes quickly shifted back up to the mare in question. Spitfire saw Dash’s eyes, and how her forehoof was shaking slightly on the bar stand.
Spitfire felt the initial shock be replaced by utter rage. She turned away from her conversation with Soarin and her wings flared out defensively as she trotted towards the bar. Her hooves slammed on the glossy floor of the club as she made her way over.
Dash was still sitting at the bar as the brown stallion continued to rant, his comments becoming more threatening, “Hello?! Crash! Speak up! Stop sitting there like the little coward you are and talk to me!” he shouted, making Dash seem to gasp silently as she felt the fear increase around her body.
Hoops snapped. He got up of the bar stool and raised his hoof to strike the mare, but before he could complete the action a golden hoof grabbed his shoulder as a voice whispered into his ear. The voice ran out through his brain like venom.
“Don’t you even dare try and hurt my marefriend! Or I swear to Celestia, I will make sure they’ll be cleaning your blood off the floor.”
The hoof on the stallions shoulder turned him around to face the enraged mare, her brow furrowed and wings outstretched. She look that of an ursa major who had been woken from winter hibernation.
The stallion, however, wasn’t fazed by the mare; still under the influence of his drink. “Oh really… what could you do? You're just a fillyfooler!” he shouted, stumbling slightly. “And besides, who would want to defend somepony like that!” he finished, pointing an accusing hoof at the rainbow mare.
“I do,” Spitfire said as she turned round and reared her hind legs. The stallion was too late to react as the strong athletic muscle collided with his face, destroying his jaw as a few teeth shot out from his mouth.
The stallion hit the ground, hard, rousing Vinyl from her current song. She looked over at the bar and saw her friend sitting at on a bar stool as a golden mare stood over a brown stallion. She lowered the volume of the music as the whole clubs attention focused on the two ponies at the bar.
Spitfire growled as she looked over the stallion, who was now slightly more conscious than he was before -- despite his broken face which was now bleeding heavily. Spitfire leaned down as she spoke, “You will never come near my marefriend again! Or next time I’ll break something more important than your face!” she shouted, the rage in her tone made very clear.
The stallion nodded timidly as he started to shake from the impending fear of another hit. Spitfire looked up at Rainbow, who was utterly shocked at what she saw. The sky blue mare locked eyes with her marefriend as a thankful smile spread across her muzzle.
Spitfire smiled lovingly back at the mare before looking back down at the stallion in a disgusted manner. She stepped off the brown pony and trotted over to Rainbow Dash. The mare wrapped a wing around the blue pony as they made their way out of the club.
Soarin and the rest of the team looked anxiously at each other, before quietly leaving the club with the mares as the crowd watched in shock. Some of the ponies went over to go and help the stallion, and others looked back over to Vinyl, who shrugged and turned the music back up as the club turned back into full swing.
In the crowd a lone pony sat with a camera. He patted the item comfortingly, before making his way out of the club...
...
Spitfire flung open the doors into the outside world once again. Dash breathed in the air shakily as Spitfire rubbed a hoof along the mare’s back comfortingly. Rainbow felt the tears well up in her eyes. She buried her head in Spitfire’s shoulder as she whispered, “Thank you, Spitfire.”
The golden mare laughed amusingly. “Now what have I said about thanking me?” she asked playfully.
Dash chuckled happily as she wiped her muzzle with a fore hoof. “I know, it’s just-”
Spitfire put a hoof on Dash’s chest, stopping her. “I know, and to my defense I did say if he ever came near you, I’d break his face, and that’s exactly what I did,” she said as she kissed the mare softly on the cheek.
Dash’s face lit up slightly at her marefriend’s words. Spitfire continued, “So, you want to go to the hotel?” she asked kindly.
The blue mare nodded.
Spitfire smiled, she turned to Soarin and the rest of the team as they quickly trotted over to the pair.
Soarin held a face of both confusion and horror as so did the others. “W-what was that!?” he asked, completely stunned.
Spitfire deadpanned. “Protecting my marefriend,” she stated, giving the mare in question another soft kiss on the neck as she kept massaging her back.
Soarin looked between Blazing and Rapid before turning back to Spitfire as they all said in unison, “What from?”
Spitfire turned back to the rest of the team. “It’s a long, painful story. But for now, though, me and Dash are going to head back to the hotel. We’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
With that both mare’s took off into the distance, leaving a very confused Soarin, Rapid and Blazing below.
Spitfire and Dash soon arrived back at the large hotel. The two ponies trotted into the bedroom as Spitfire crashed onto the bed along with Dash, the golden mare turned her head to face the mare. “You gonna be alright, baby?” she asked tenderly.
Dash nodded. “Yeah, I’ll be fine in the morning,” she replied in a dry tone.
Before Spitfire could mark a response the sky blue mare continued, “But, why did you save me?” she asked.
Spitfire was slightly shocked by the question. “What do you mean, silly filly? I’m your marefriend, wouldn’t be one if I wasn’t lookin' out for you, It's kinda in the job description,” she said.
Dash sighed. “Yeah, but still, I mean… he wasn’t that scary,” she said, going quiet at the end of her sentence.
Spitfire nodded. She knew why she had been as angry as she was… and now was the time to let Dash know. “Dashie,” she said, the nickname getting the mare’s attention.
Spitfire moved over on the bed so she was now lying on top of the mare. She cradled her marefriend’s head in her hooves as she looked intently in to her eyes. “Since we met, I knew you were something special, and not just in flying, but in everything you do. I wouldn’t have even dreamed of being able to get someone like you as my marefriend.” A smile started to spread across her face. “It’s been a month since I’ve had the privilege to call you that, Dash, and it’s been one of the greatest things in my life to do. I would have thought that we would have just had some fun nights out together, but it’s been nothing short of amazing.
"I’ve admired you before this whole thing even started, and I can’t believe I’m even in this position with you right now… and I think… over the course of that month… I’ve not just liked you more, Rainbow…I think I’ve… I think I've fallen in love with you,” she said, letting the word finally leave her mouth.
Dash was completely stunned, in the one day she had experienced not only her worst nightmare, but her biggest dream ever! She let the word ring out through her mind… Spitfire loved her… the mare she had admired all these years actually… loved her. The feelings of happiness and joy started to radiate throughout the mare as tears gushed out her eyes. She leaped forward, kissing the mare passionately, never wanting the moment to ever end.
As the kiss ended, Dash started to sob happily. “I love you too, Spitfire. I love you more than you know,” she said happily, hugging the mare as she nuzzled into her neck.
Spitfire sighed happily. “So do I, baby, and I will always protect those I love… I will always protect you,” she said truthfully.
Dash nodded in acceptance, she knew she would do the same, but she didn’t feel the need to tell the pegasus that at the specific time. Dash released the embrace as they both went back into more kissing, however, the kissing started to get more and more passionate, each mare wanted to express their true feelings. Spitfire looked into the eyes of the mare she loved and winked seductively, Dash grinned mischievously… both of them knew this was going to be the best night of their life…
