Chapter 18: A Date With a Rainbow

Spitfire had already said goodbye to her brother Blazing only a few moments ago. She was now currently on her way back to the hotel having stopped a few blocks away to stretch her hooves. The sun was now beginning its descent towards the horizon, but was still lighting up the world as usual. As Spitfire continued to trot down the vast streets she seemed to notice a lot more ponies looking at her than she was usually used to seeing.

Spitfire felt slightly creeped out by this, she was used to having ponies take the odd look as she passed by probably remembering her from a show or party, but this was a different level of popularity and the mare began to feel slightly claustrophobic as she weaved in and out of the ponies on the city’s streets.

Luckily for Spitfire she wasn’t far away from the hotel, not long after she’d started her trek the golden mare reached the tall structure and she briskly walked into the lobby and into the elevator. She pressed the button to the penthouse.

Spitfire giggled to herself, she’d been using this elevator a lot lately and it was only midday.

Soon though the doors to the elevator opened to reveal nothing but a lifeless apartment in front of the golden mare. Spitfire looked around curiously as she walked out of the elevator, she had a feeling something was watching her but she couldn’t see anything.

Suddenly out of the silence Spitfire heard something, but it was too inaudible to tell. A smirk started to form on her lips when she realized what a certain cyan mare was playing at. She swiftly moved round a few corners and into the suites bathroom. The yellow mare peeked out of the doorway as she spotted the cyan mare waiting cautiously behind a wall close to the living area of the home.

Spitfire grinned and launched out off the door startling the cyan mare, before Rainbow could react she was brought to the ground and being mercilessly tickled by her marefirend.

“Hahahacome onahaha stophehe I-Ihahah I’m ticklishhhhahahaha,” Rainbow said trying her best to get out of the troublesome spot she had gotten herself into.

Spitfire simply smiled at the sky blue mare below her and retracted her hooves, “well that all depends on what you have to offer me,” she said playfully, leaning down to nuzzle the mare.

Rainbow raised an eyebrow. “What is it that you require, captain?” she asked amusingly.

Spitfire laughed before leaning down and planting a kiss on the mare’s muzzle before whispering ,”I need you to come with me to the living room… there’s something I need to tell you,” she said her tone turning slightly more serious.

Dash was slightly concerned by her marefriend’s change in tone. “Why, what’s happened Spit?” she asked worryingly.

Spitfire sighed. “Follow me... I’ll tell you,” she said getting up off the mare and holding out a hoof to help her up before the pair made their way over to the sofa in the living quarters of the suite.

Rainbow sat down next to the golden mare on the sofa, she kept as close as possible to her as Spitfire told her the problem.

The mare sighed. “Dash, Silver thought you deserved to know about what's happening and...I agree so heres the skinny Rainbow, what happened last night at the club got out onto the papers somehow, I don’t know who did it but that doesn’t matter. What does is how our relationship is going to go, we’re going to get a lot of attention Dash...but that doesn’t mean we can’t be marefriends outside of the hotel, it just means we’re going to have to adjust to this...If you want to back out now...I understand,” Spitfire said feeling the nerves rise in her chest as she awaited a response from the Sky blue mare.

Dash was slightly shocked by what she heard, but in hindsight she had seen something like this coming, but then her mind shifted to Spitfire’s last words, she felt a determined emotion rise in her before she leaned over and kissed the mare deeply. When they finally parted Rainbow spoke, “Spitfire I wouldn’t leave you even If Equestria was going to fall into a black hole,” she said smiling, “and so what if ponies look at us differently… they're probably just jealous anyway,” she said as the pair let out a chuckle.

Spitfire nodded. “I’m glad to hear it Dash, I knew I could count on you,” she said happily, wrapping her wings around the mare.

Rainbow snuggled up to her marefriend, “you can always count on me Spit, unless I’m reading Daring Doo, in that case you’ll have to give me a few minutes,” she joked.

Spitfire smiled as she leaned down to kiss the mare on the forehead, “I love you Dash,” she said truthfully nuzzling the mare’s neck.

Rainbow returned the smile as she spoke, “I love you too Spitfire,” she said returning the nuzzle as silence came over the room for a few moments.

Soon though the sky blue mare spoke up, “Sooo, do you still wanna go see a show?” she asked in a hopeful tone.

Spitfire grinned and nodded. “Sure thing, where do you have in mind?” she asked curiously.

Dash pondered on the thought for a few moments before answering, “hmmm, well we could go see the Manehatten’s hearths warming pageant?,” she said.

Spitfire nodded. “Sounds like a great Idea Dashie, let’s get going,” she said with a hint of excitement, the two mare’s shared a final kiss before trotting towards the exit of the penthouse.

Spitfire opened the large glass door to the city and let Dash through before letting it close behind her. Celestia's sun was now starting to dip below the horizon. The winter air now starting to settle in around the city making Spitfire shiver a little.

Rainbow looked over at the freezing mare, she was used to being in the cold weather for the winter since she lived in Ponyville, but she could tell the her marefriend wasn’t the pony for cold weather. She wrapped a wing around the golden mare lovingly, “better?” she asked kindly.

Spitfire smiled and nodded. “Yeah much better,” she replied happily before the pair headed off in the direction of Manehattan's theater.

As they trotted down the streets Spitfire knew she was getting a lot more looks than she had previously, but this time in the protection of Rainbow she didn’t feel any care at all and she even leaned on her marefriend for comfort as they trotted towards their destination.

Dash looked down at her marefriend, “you okay there Spitfire?” she asked curiously.

Spitfire nodded. “Yeah I’m cool...just exhausted from the day,” she said dejectedly.

Rainbow raised an eyebrow. “There was more conversation with Silver than you told me wasn’t there?” she said knowingly.

Spitfire was slightly astonished at her marefriend, but she didn’t hold back from telling her the truth. “Yeah there was. Silver says If I can’t find a way to get the public on our side about all of this then I could be out of the job,” she said solemnly.

Rainbow was slightly shocked, “woah, he would really do that?” she said slightly astonished by what her marefriend had said. Spitfire only nodded in approval.

With this new information Rainbow pondered for a moment. She thought about ways of enhancing their performance now less than a week away, her mind quickly shifted to a signature trick of hers that would fix the job perfectly.

Spitfire looked up to see a smirk spreading across Rainbow’s lips as sky blue mare thought,

“What are you thinking about Dash?” Spitfire asked curiously.

The Rainbow maned mare in question kept her smirk as she looked down to meet with the golden pony, “oh it’s nothing Spitfire, you’ll see next week at training,” she said with a hint of excitement.

Spitfire just rolled her eyes playfully in response as the pair kept trotting happy to be spending the night with one another again…

A Few Hours Later…

Rainbow and Spitfire trotted out of the theater, both looked like they’d just endured hours of fun, but not from the play entirely.

Spitfire laughed along with her marefriend. “Haha That was soo funny when you kissed me in front of Fancy Pants,” she said trying to hold in the rest of the impending laughter.

Rainbow grinned mischievously. “Well I had to do something he was giving you those weird looks like he was coming onto you so I did what I thought was needed,” she stated happily as Spitfire let out another fit of laughter.

“What by making out with me in front of the most popular pony in Canterlot?” she replied giggling as Dash turned a shade of crimson.

“Maybe, but you seemed to like it anyway,” Dash said with a smirk. Spitfire nodded as she leaned over to give the mare a soft kiss on her muzzle.

As the pair continued to trot down the street the mention of the royal city had brought Spitfire back to thinking about her parents, she knew that they would have known by now and were probably waiting to kill her back at Cloudsdale. Rainbow noticed the change in mood and looked over to her marefriend whose head now hung low.

Rainbow wrapped a comforting wing around her partner, “hey Spitfire you okay?” she asked.

Spitfire nodded. “Yeah I’m cool, just thinking about my parents…” she said sighing heavily.

“Hey you know we’ll get through this together Spitfire...we’re not just gonna leave you,” she said wholeheartedly.

Spitfire smiled and nuzzled her marefriends light blue chest, “thanks Dash, I just have a lot on my mind right now...I’m letting it get to me,” she said truthfully.

Dash rolled her eyes. “Well duh Spitfire the next few weeks are gonna suck, but that doesn’t mean you have to do them alone,” she said happily, tightening the winged embrace. The golden mare gave a confident nod in response.

Spitfire felt a well of emotions erupt from within, she wanted to shout to the world at this point that she had the best mare in Equestria, but at the same time she didn’t want the world to know about it, she wanted Rainbow and her to be together without the humilities of life...but of course she knew this was just a fantasy.

As the pair trotted down the city street the large hotel came into view, Rainbow sighed. “Well todays been fun right?” she asked the now tired mare.

Spitfire sighed. “Well it was good and bad I guess,” she said with a yawn, “but at least I got to spend time with my Rainbow,” she finished giving the mare in question an affectionate kiss.

Dash’s face lit up with happiness. “Thats good to hear Spit, you wanna do the same tomorrow before we go back to the dreadful training?” she asked.

Spitfire muffled a giggle. “Yeah that sounds fun Dashie, at least tomorrow we’ll be able to spend all day together,” she said happily nuzzling the mare.

Dash nuzzled back happily. “Sure thing Spitfire, now why don’t we hit the hay, I’m beat,” she said letting out a yawn. Spitfire again nodded in approval.

The two pegasi made their way back into the hotel and not too long after they made their way into the suites bedroom, they curled up next to each other lovingly embracing one another in their wings before drifting off to sleep both happy to be with one another more than ever...they just hoped they would still feel the same after the coming weeks…

To be Continued…

Author's Note

Soooo another chapter with 2000 words as promised.

now this chapter did originally come out as 1550 words but I managed to change that around with a few more bits I think it turned out rather well, let me know what you think in the comments.

Anyways onto the chapter, basically this is just Spitfire telling Dash what's happening and her reaction to it, I want Dash's loyalty to really start to show now in the next coming chapters, hopefully you all like that.

Now just as a quick note the story shall be moving forward again just a few days so we're back into training were Dash will show her secret trick but I think we all know what she's planning.

Oh and as a quick thing before the summary I had someone ask me how I write so good so fast, well I listen to music to write but not just any old dubstep music, stuff the inspires the fic- a fact for you guys to know every fic I've written is based of a song I've listened to which has given me an idea.

-lifes lessons was based off - square one by coldplay
-Raining Fire was based off - joyride by roosters
-Struggles of a bent relationship was based off - Fix you by coldplay
-Fleet of hearts was based off- For the First Time by the script

I just get insperation from the lyrics it helps me right a lot so yeah that and I'm a more think on the spot writer I don't really plan anything before writing I just jump in which I encourage all you new writers to do!

anyways summary time !

  1. Dash is going to be more caring now towards Spitfire and help her in anyway she can
  2. Spitfire is feeling a bit nervous about the preformance but she has faith that the team will do well
  3. Spitfire trusts Dash now to tell her just about anything
  4. Mike might say he's not dead, but give him a few days :P
