Chapter 21: Parental Control
Inside a home in Cloudsdale, a very lifeless atmosphere drifted throughout the cloud layered walls in the home. That was until a loud voice could be heard reverberating off the structure of the cloud home.
“What is wrong with you!” Spitfire’s father, Golden Fire, shouted. “How can you besmirch your family name, by going out with that… that filth!”
Spitfire wanted to scream back, but she remained cowering behind her parents gaze.
“I am very disappointed in you… after all that we have told you, all that we have warned you about, you go out and do… this!” her father yelled out, continuing to verbally assault the mare.
Spitfire felt her anger well up inside her. She lifted her head up, finally getting the courage to speak up. “This is my life... I can do whatever I want! If I want to fall in love with a mare; then it is my bucking right to do so!” she screamed out, but it was more of a whimper. While this argument kept raging on, Blazing stood at the door frame to the home, watching in utter shock as his family tore each other apart.
Spitfire’s mother, Starshine, looked over at her husband with slight worry, “Dear, please stop this, it’s not going to work,” she said.
Golden Fire turned to face his wife, the anger in his eyes nearly setting them ablaze. “Do you not understand, Star?! Our daughter is a fillyfooler! Think about our family’s reputation!”
Spitfire snapped. “The family’s reputation! You mean your reputation, you can’t just tell me who I can love! If anything, you're the reason why I don’t like stallions!” she spat, leaving all the ponies in the room speechless.
Blazing sighed and trotted into the room standing next to his younger sister. “I agree, dad. You can’t define love, it just... happens. And it’s not you who makes the decision on who it is.”
Golden Fire exchanged heated looks between his children. “I will make sure, Spitfire, that you and Dash will split up! Otherwise I will make sure both of you are out of the Wonderbolts.”
Blazing and Spitfire’s eye’s widened. “What!” the pair shouted in unison.
Golden Fire grinned knowing he now had them trapped. “That’s right, kids. If Spitfire doesn’t stop dating mares, then Daddy will just have to take away your dream jobs.”
Spitfire’s jaw dropped as she tried to say something, anything! Meanwhile, Blazing was on the verge of losing it altogether. “You can’t just take away our jobs! What kind of manager do you think Silver is?!” he said, thinking he had the stallion blocked.
Golden Fire just grinned contently. “Well, I know him personally, and if theres one thing Silver loves more than his team: it’s money. Besides, I donate to the team all the time, If I stopped Silver would have to cut some ponies from the squad and I would put my expert advice forward on who to sack first.”
“You’d just sell out your own children from their own jobs…” Spitfire questioned, still trying to find a proper breathing pattern.
Blazing was shocked beyond all thoughts. “Y-you are insane!” he said.
Golden Fire raised an eyebrow questionably. “Am I really? Or is it just that you two are just so blinded by your own wants and needs; that you can’t think about what’s right for the family.”
Suddenly, Spitfire’s boiling anger reached it’s peak as she spoke up, “This isn’t about the family, it’s about your selfishness! You just want to carry on your own stupid legacy, well… that's not going to happen.”
Golden Fire glared at the two ponies at the far side of the the room. “You two will listen and do what I ask, I’m your father!”
Blazing shook his head as Spitfire made her way to the door. “Not anymore,” he said bitterly, before following his sister to the exit of the cloud home. Golden Fire huffed and trotted into the kitchen, knocking a vase over from a nearby stand on his way.
Just as Spitfire was about to leave, she heard her mother speak, “Sweetheart, can I please say something?” she asked.
Spitfire closed her eyes for a moment, she knew her mother wasn’t on her fathers side and she also knew that she was against the idea of a straight only family. Taking a deep breath, she turned around to face her mother, smiling slightly.
Starfire breathed a sigh of relief as she trotted up to her children, wrapping them both in her wings comfortingly. “Be safe, okay?” she said softly. Both ponies gave a nod in response. She retracted her wings and gave each of them a kiss before they left the home quietly, leaving their mother to deal with the angry stallion inside.
Blazing watched as his sister began trotting off in the direction of the city center. “Hey, Spitfire. Where are you going?” he asked, concerned as he saw his sister’s sad expression.
Spitfire stopped for a moment to face her brother still standing on the front step of their parent’s house. “I’m going to find my marefriend,” she said plainly before spreading her wings and taking off into the sky leaving a very worried stallion below.
Meanwhile back in the home, Golden Fire stormed into the cloud homes kitchen, mumbling aggressively. Starfire slowly came into the room, at first she was hesitant just peaking out from the corner of the room. She finally gathered the courage to come in and confront the stallion.
Golden Fire’s ears perked up when he heard the sounds of hooves and turned around to face his wife. Starfire stood in the center of the room facing the stallion. “Golden... Honey, I don’t think this is such a good idea what you're doing for our kids,” she stated firmly.
The stallion waved a dismissive hoof. “You just don’t understand the concept, our daughter is a fillyfooler, don’t you get it!” he said, his voice rising slightly.
Starfire jumped slightly at this, but didn’t back down. “No honey, this is wrong. You're trying to dictate your daughter’s life.”
Golden Fire sighed angrily. He trotted out of the room, not answering his wife, and made his way towards the privacy of his study. He slammed the door behind him before heading over towards the large chair, and gently sitting down on it. The soft surface brought a content smile to his face as he seated himself, but the smile quickly faded. The stallion turned to his large cloud desk which had some quills and a few slightly crinkled parchments. He put his forehooves together and retreated back to his thoughts, pondering his next move.
He knew that Silver wouldn’t just give up his best flyers on money alone, there had to be something else that would push him that little bit farther. To be honest, he felt bad for trying to get rid of her daughter, and even more so for his son. But then another option came to light. Instead of going after Spitfire through Sliver, he would simply confront the problem at the source. A small, yet cynical, smile started to grow upon his face as he began to think more about the mare, the one that had caused all this in the first place.
Rainbow Dash was nothing to Silver at this point, she still wasn’t even a true Wonderbolt yet! As Golden Fire thought more about the mare, he remembered seeing the rainbow maned filly at the young flyers competition. He could tell that joining the Wonderbolts was her dream… So he would have to crush that dream, slowly start to tear away Dash’s life until he saw fit... until she broke of the relationship off with Spitfire, leaving her with nothing. With a full faced grin, the stallions chuckled to himself as he leaned back on the chair, alone with his evil thoughts…
Meanwhile in the Wonderbolts HQ in Cloudsdale
Rainbow Dash was currently waiting outside the large Wonderbolt arena, she had just received a letter from some very important ponies and was now anxiously waiting for them.
Just then, out of the corner of her eyes, she spotted four familiar ponies trotting down the street. She smiled happily, and rushed over to greet them.
Twilight smiled when she saw Rainbow Dash trotting up to her and the rest of the group. “Hey, Rainbow. We heard about your performance in Manehatten, and thought we’d pay you a visit when you got back,” she said, giving the mare in question a big hug.
Suddenly, a blur of pink shot out from nowhere, hitting the sky blue pegasus in the chest and sending her toppling over onto the cloud surface below. When Dash opened her eyes, she was muzzle to muzzle with Pinkie Pie. She had a large toothy grin as she stared at Dash excitedly.
Before Rainbow could even open her mouth, the pink pony spoke up,” Dashie I’m sooo happy you're back!” she said, squeezing the mare tightly in her forehooves, nearly crushing the athletes lungs.
Dash managed a smile, and nodded. The pink mare released her death grip on her and stood back up, giving Rainbow some well needed oxygen. Applejack trotted over and lifted the blue mare back onto her hooves, “Well, it’s great tah see ya again, Dash. Yah got some mighty fine moves in those wings,” she said proudly.
Rainbow smiled warmly at her friend. “Thanks, Applejack. It’s been great fun too!” she said happily.
Rarity had a coy smile on her muzzle as she spoke, “I bet getting together with the Captain of the team was great fun too,” she said amusingly as Dash’s cheeks turned slightly red as an awkward silence fell over the six ponies. Just then a voice called out over them.
“Dash!” Spitfire said as she trotting up to the pegasus. Dash turned to see her marefriend, and gasped slightly when she saw the fiery pegasus. She watched as a lone tear slowly made it’s way down her cheek. Dash galloped over to her and wrapped her up tightly in her wings as Spitfire laid her head on the mare’s shoulder.
Dash leaned in as she whispered. “Hey, Spitfire. What's wrong?” she asked worriedly.
Spitfire shook her head shamefully as she spoke, “I-It’s my dad… he’s gonna take away my job if I don’t b-break up with you,” she said, choking slightly on her own tears.
Dash looked over at her friends all watching at the scene with concerned looks, “hey guys you don’t think I could see you sometime later...I’ve got something I need to do,” she said. All her friends smiled and nodded before going off towards the city center to continue their day.
Dash leaned back into the embrace and nuzzled Spitfire’s cheek. “Hows he going to take away your job?” she asked.
Spitfire wiped her cheek with a forehoof. “It’s Silver. Apparently he likes money more than his team members,” she said with slightly more anger in her tone.
Dash on, the other hoof, was slightly confused. “Members, what are you talking about, how many ponies is he trying to get rid off?” she asked shocked.
“Me, Blazing and he’ll probably try to get rid of your chance at becoming a bolt too,” Spitfire replied still being held tightly in Dash’s embrace, Rainbow started to feel her blood boil at this, Golden Fire had reduced her marefriend the one she loved most into a sobbing wreck. She sighed angrily before lifting Spitfire’s chin up to meet her eyes. She kissed her softly before speaking.
“Come on, we’re gonna go see Silver about all this money stuff, that stallions got a heck of a lot of explaining to do,” Dash said, trotting up towards the large stadium with Spitfire hot on her tail…both egar to find out what information they could get.
