Chapter 6: Club Reflex

The sun over Cloudsdale was now beginning its usual descent into the horizon, bringing an orange hue to the famous sky city. Spitfire watched the sun descend until she heard hoofsteps from behind her. The golden mare turned around and smiled as she saw Rainbow Dash trotting towards her.

Spitfire spoke up when the cyan mare got close, "Hey Dash," she said happily.

The sky blue mare returned the smile. "Hey Spits, where are the others?" she asked quizzically, looking around the grounds of the building.

Spitfire sighed. "They'll be here soon," she said as the sound of voices came from behind the mares. Spitfire and Dash turned around to see three stallions emerge from the Wonderbolt headquarters.

Soarin smiled when he saw the two ponies waiting patiently at the front of the stadium. "Hey guys! Sorry we're a bit late, Blazing Fire here got his uniform stuck in the locker again and Rapid and I had to help him out," he said, rolling his eyes.

Blazing Fire glared over at the two stallions who simply smirked back at him mockingly. Spitfire spoke up amongst the awkward silence. “So guys, where do we go now?” she asked.

Blazing Fire looked up at his sister. “Well, the club is on that 'Starfall Street' in downtown,” he said, pointing a hoof in its general direction from the stadium.

Spitfire nodded and started trotting with Dash, wanting to get some distance from the three stallions so she could at least spend some time with the cyan mare.

As the ponies trotted past central park, the golden mare decided to start up a conversation. “So… have you enjoyed the week so far?” she asked, turning to look at the mare.

It didn’t take too long for Rainbow Dash to respond with a confident nod. “Yeah, it’s been awesome, I can’t even begin to describe it,” she said with utter joy.

Spitfire smiled. “Well, I’m glad Dash, it’s good to know your... settling in,” she said happily.

Rainbow returned the smile before speaking up, “So, you excited about this club?”

Spitfire pondered. “Well… in all seriousness, I haven’t been to a club since my first day of becoming a Wonderbolt,” the golden mare said, remembering the event clearly.

Dash grew excited by the thought of another tale from the Wonderbolt. “Really, what was your first day like?” she asked curiously.

Spitfire thought back on the moments as she spoke. “It was an amazing first day, I was feeling like I had just lived the biggest dream in my life and I didn’t want the day to end so quickly. So when the guys asked if I wanted to go to the club, I joined them. It was fun, but I haven’t been back to one till now, so I’m probably a bit rusty,” she said with a flick of her wing as her cheeks turned a slight shade of red.

Dash nodded. “Yeah, that’s kinda understandable.”

Spitfire smiled. “So do you go to clubs often then Dash?” she asked, interested more about the cyan mare’s lifestyle.

Dash nodded. “Heck yeah I do, down in Ponyville, we have the most awesome DJ in all of Equestria!” she replied.

Spitfire raised an eyebrow. “Really? Who's this DJ?” she asked curiously.

Dash smiled. “She calls herself DJ-PON-3, but her real names Vinyl Scratch, she’s a close friend of mine and the best DJ around,” she said knowingly.

Spitfire smirked. “I think I’ll go to this club some time.”

Dash smiled back. “You won't regret it,” she said as the pair rounded a corner onto Starfall Street, a place where all of Cloudsdale’s nightlife happened. Spitfire saw two ponies waiting outside the club where they were headed.

Spitfire smiled as she came up to the two mares. “Hey Fleetfoot, hey Misty, you guys ready for tonight?” she asked as the rest of the ponies came up behind her.

Fleetfoot nodded as Misty spoke, “Yeah, we can’t wait! Let's get this party started!” she said excitedly.

Spitfire let out a muffled laugh as all the ponies got in line at the club. The building was quite large and the sound of the heavy music could be heard from the walls surrounding the place. Spitfire looked up to the bright orange neon sign which read the words, ‘Club Reflex’.

Spitfire smirked to herself, she had heard worse names for a club. She was taken from her thoughts when a hoof lightly tapped her shoulder. The golden mare turned around to see Misty Skies with a confused look on her face.

Spitfire raised an eyebrow. “What’s wrong Misty?” she asked, slightly concerned.

Misty rubbed the back of her neck hesitantly. “Um… who’s the one with the rainbow mane?” she asked, a slight blush forming on her cheeks in embarrassment.

Spitfire rolled her eyes playfully. She motioned for Dash to come over to introduce her. “This, Misty, is Rainbow Dash, and Dash, I’m sure you know Misty Skies?” she asked, introducing the two flyers to each other.

Dash nodded. “Yeah, I know, you're the pony who got the record for the best agility a few years ago at the Wonderbolt Academy.”

Misty nodded confidently. “Yep, that's me, nice to meet you Rainbow, I’ve actually heard a lot about you,” she said, bumping hooves with the mare.

Dash smiled, “Heh... It’s nice to meet you too,” she said kindly. Just then a noise roused the mares, they turned to see Blazing Fire and Soarin locked in yet another argument while Rapid just stood by trying to hold in his current laughter.

The sky blue coated stallion grunted. “Look, just because I’m stubborn doesn’t mean I can’t get a mare,” he stated.

Blazing Fire smirked waving a dismissive hoof, “What ever, grampa.”

Soarin stopped grumbling and simply opted for a smile as he spoke. “Coming from the stallion who could have got the best girl in flight school, but instead got dumped because he got frightened at zombie pony, so the hottest mare just happened to have to settle with little old grampa here,” Soarin said as he watched Blazing Fire’s mouth drop and the slightest blush of embarrassment appear on his face.

Soarin smirked. “Guess that means I win?” he asked rhetorically.

Blazing Fire lowered his head in defeat as the rest of the ponies tried to hold back their own giggles. Soarin trotted away proudly as Spitfire came up to her brother with a sympathetic yet mocking look on her face. She lifted a hoof and patted his shoulder. “Better luck next time bro,” she said with a slight giggle before heading into the club with the rest of the other ponies.

Spitfire caught up to Dash as they entered the interior of the building, the sound of heavy bass music reverberated off the walls of the club as the DJ mixed songs on his deck in the middle of the stage. The other ponies danced on the colourful floor, which was also the only source of light in the place.

Spitfire followed Dash to one of the nearby tables in the corner of the club and the other ponies gathered around them. Fleetfoot and Misty both sat down and assessed their bandages. Dash raised an eyebrow at this. “So you both crashed?” she asked, remembering the talk she’d had with Soarin only a week ago.

Both mares nodded, slightly embarrassed. Fleetfoot was the first to speak. “Yes… well, we were practicing this new move that Misty had suggested we try, it was going well at first, but… I might have taken it a bit too far in terms of speed,” she said with a sheepish grin as Misty rolled her eyes, looking down towards her broken wing.

Spitfire shook her head playfully at the two mares. She had only met them a few years ago as both Misty and Fleetfoot had come from another Wonderbolt Academy. However, the two quickly became friends with their golden captain and had also become a vital part of the team's performances. Unfortunately though, on this tour, they wouldn’t be coming.

Moments later Rapid and Blazing Fire trotted over to the table and set down a tray of drinks. Rainbow raised an eyebrow as she realised something. “Hey, where’s Soarin?” she asked quizzically.

Both stallions motioned their heads towards the nightclub’s bar where a sky blue stallion sat next to two mares around the same age as Misty and Fleetfoot. Everypony at the table gave their own laughs of amusement before settling into their own conversations.

The heavy bass music soon turned into more subtle wubs as the night progressed. Spitfire sighed and looking towards the dancefloor where Fleetfoot had been dancing with Rapid for about the past hour or so. She quickly looked over to the bar where she had last seen Soarin and, to her surprise, the stallion was now face down at the bar playing with his last few bits.
Out of nowhere, Spitfire felt a wing wrap around her and pull her closer to Dash. She turned to see Blazing Fire with a playful smirk on his lips. Spitfire rolled her eyes as Dash blushed slightly.

After a few awkward moments of silence, Dash spoke up. “So… um, you wanna go for a dance?” she asked hesitantly as she fumbled with her hooves.

Spitfire was slightly shocked by the mare's request. “Um...sure, I guess, but I haven't danced for ages,” she said.

Dash smirked. “Well then, let me show you how,” she said, getting up from the table and walking towards the dance floor in the middle of the club. Spitfire got up hesitantly and followed Dash into the masses of ponies currently occupying the dance floor.

Dash found a good spot in the crowd and held out a hoof to Spitfire who cautiously took it. She was surprised things were moving as fast as they were, but she embraced the change.

Suddenly the song that was currently playing changed to a more subtle beat as a guitar played into the background music. Spitfire followed Dash’s movements to the beat of the music. She felt many emotions rise in her chest, she felt many things, but above all, she felt joy and she couldn’t get the smile off her face as she danced with the mare she secretly loved.

When that thought passed through her mind though, Spitfire started looking at Dash differently. She saw the sleek, toned body of the mare, those big, beautiful, magenta eyes that seemed to sparkle slightly from the dance floor along with that wild rainbow mane that made her stand out from the crowd.

Spitfire felt her heart flutter at that point, but she was quickly cut from her thoughts when the mare in question spoke up. “So are you enjoying it now?” Rainbow asked over the sound of the beating music.

Spitfire nodded happily. “Yeah, it’s great!” she said with a small smile.

Dash returned the smile as they kept dancing. The cyan mare started to feel that all too familiar vibe rise in her chest as she felt the burning on her forehead and cheeks, except this time she let the feeling take hold as she began to watch the golden mare more closely. Dash saw her gorgeous burned amber eyes and the fiery mane which sparkled off the nightclubs neon lights. It was then that Dash realised what Fleetfoot had meant... she liked Spitfire... a lot

Soon the music began to die down again as the DJ prepared another song. Spitfire and Dash where having a great time and both of them felt happy they were getting time to spend with one another without all the complications of life. They felt free of all inhabitations and could just let go for once as they danced till their heart's content.

After a few hours more of partying and worn out Spitfire and Rainbow made there way back to the table and sat down. Rapid Fire was still in conversation with Misty whilst Blazing Fire talked to Fleetfoot at the other end of the room. Spitfire again looked over to the bar, but was surprised when she saw no sign of her lieutenant. She quickly glanced around the rest of the club her eyes coming to rest on the cyan stallion waddling into the bathrooms.

Spitfire sighed and got up before trotting off down to the bathrooms to investigate.

Spitfire pushed open the door to be met with the sounds of somepony emptying their stomach. Spitfire leaned in on the door and spoke up with a concerned tone clear in her voice, “Hey Soar you okay in there?” she asked hesitantly.

Soarin blubbered out something inaudible. Spitfire pushed open the door to the cubical revealing the slightly wasted stallion.

Spitfire rolled her eyes playfully. “Come on Soar, lets get you home,” she said helping the stallion up off the bathroom floor before the two ponies made their way out of the bathroom and towards the table in the club.

After a few moments all the Wonderbolts found themselves outside the nightclub. Rapid Fire and Blazing Fire were now holding their drunken lieutenant up as they slowly walked back to their respective homes.

Spitfire turned to Dash. “Thanks for coming along Rainbow I had good fun tonight,” she happily embracing the cyan mare.

Dash smiled. “No problem Spits, it was fun,” she replied hugging the mare back just as tight.

Finally both mares parted and waved goodbye as they took off towards their homes happy to have spent the night together.

Spitfire flew through the dark night sky as she contemplated her past few days with the rainbow maned mare. Spitfire had now started to develop strong feelings for Dash. She loved nearly everything about her and she always felt a sinking feeling when she had to spend time away from her.

Spitfire stopped in mid flight as she thought about this, could she really now be more than just crushing on the cyan mare. She started to think more deeply as she realized just how much her mind had been occupied with the rainbow mare.

Spitfire’s breathing hitched slightly when she finally reached the conclusion… she wasn’t just crushing… she was in love with Rainbow Dash.

Now everything started to rush through the yellow mares mind, her heart raced. She now began to think how the media would react to this, how would her parents would react to this. She sighed, trying to calm down, it wouldn’t come to that... would it?

Spitfire shook her head trying to shake her thoughts, she couldn’t really work this out in her currently stressed condition. She thought best to sleep on the thought and work it out later for now she was just happy to have been closer to the mare she loved…
