Today was the day! the young navy blue Pegasus filly told herself, excitement and nervousness eating away at her belly. She looked through her saddle bag, double checking that she had all that she would need, and as much as she would. Today I will show everyone that I'm an excellent flyer, even the princesses will know!

"Solaris! Are you ready yet? We're going to be late!" A pale pink mare with a purple mane called at the bottom of the stairs as Solaris tumbled down, using her wings so she didn't trip as excitement guided her hooves. "Ready ma." She gave her mother a toothy grin. Her black mane was done up with the ends spiked and her short tail brushed till it gleamed like the moon. The pink mare-snow flower- rolled her eyes and nuzzled her daughter, "then lets go!"

Within moment they were pushing through the crowd of Pegasus ponies so Solaris could stand in line with her fellow class mates and teacher, Golden cloud. Golden cloud rolled her eyes cheerfully as the dark blue filly moved up to stand beside her. "Could you have been slower?" She teased. Solaris stuck out her tongue and Golden gave a look of mock annoyance. "You're the last to fly, make it count." She told the eager filly as she started to move to stay in front of the princesses. A white colt moved to stand beside Solaris. "What took you so long?" He hissed in her ear as Golden Cloud began to speak, "...these young flyers are the best of their age group, I do hope you enjoy their performances they all put together on their own..." Solaris didn't take her eyes off their teacher as she replied, "wanted to look nice and I needed to finish my stars, I promised I wouldn't miss you Winter, and I didn't." Se flicked the colt with her tail. Winter chuckled, "fillies." "First up is Winter Winds." golden Cloud spoke slightly louder to grab his attention. "That's my que!" And with that the white Pegasus was off and doing his routine.

How can I compete with him? Solaris thought dryly. Winter's routine was complex at best., she only hoped she could compete with the handsome colt.

Luna watched each routine with little interest and tried not to yawn, for when she did Tia shot her a warning glance, these were foals after all, they worked hard to set this up. But she should be sleeping, not watching foals fly. But one filly caught her eye at the very end of the line, a midnight blue one, almost black as night, with her purple hair and pale blue eyes she almost reminded Luna of a certain pony. The resemblance almost frightened her. Almost.

Solaris looked up to catch Princess Luna's watchful gaze on her, she shook beneath her fur in nervousness. Princess Twilight Sparkle was focused on the blue filly as she descended and stood back in her place. Next was the colt before Solaris, and when he took off she got even more nervous.

What seemed like years was actually minutes that passed and then it was her turn. Her wings felt stiff as boards when Golden Cloud called her name for her to fly. "Here go nothing..." She murmured and leapt off the side of the cloud where they stood and plummeted to the ground below, she heard ponies shocked intakes of breath when she flew back up and started doing circular motions around a large white cloud, dropping golden stars laced with unicorn magic to stay hovering where she dropped them around the cloud. Solaris dove into the cloud and laced the inside in more stars. Finally she was finished and in her wake was a cloud that resembled the planet Saturn so much that the crowd of ponies stood slack-jawed in awe.
