Loki - Origin of Deception

“Now I can tell you, about duty of my personal students.” Started Chrysalis and Loki couldn´t hide exciment.

Together they went to the top of highest tower in Changiville´s castle. In large room there was gem. But not ordinary, this one shined with all shades of green and even colt like Loki could feel the power.

“What is this?”

“This is what I call Shard. I found it many years ago and never figured out what it does. Your duty is to find out, what this gem does and protect it from enemies.”

“I understand.”

“One more thing: if somepony tries to stole it and you defeat him, then you´ll become my faithful student and my direct subordinate.”

Days past and Loki continued doing school, but also he took lessons with Chrysalis. Mostly about magic. Nopony ever tryied to bully him, because since he became Chrysalis´s student right after Romeo´s death, everypony suspected that Loki did that. Unfortunately for them, the case was closed as a suicide without any evidence going against grey unicorn.

One day when Loki returned from “Shard room” where he studied, he saw a letter lying on the floor in his room. Foal picked it up and opened it.

“So you are the new Chrysalis´s student? Romeo surely didn´t last very long. You are trying to figure out, what is the purpose of the Shard aren´t you? I know what to do. If you want to know it, come this evening on meadow on the southern side of Changliville. I will explain everything there.” Said the letter.

Loki was still just a kid so he didn´t fully realize that it could be dangerous, so he decided to go there.

On the meadow were two ponies wearing capes, so Loki couldn´t see how they look like.

“I came. You know how to use Shard? How do you know that?”

“I also was once her student.” Answered him cold voice, definetely male.

“What do you want for that information?”

“Nothing really. I just want to use it once. So if you want to know that information, you have to help me get it.”

“That is too good for me to refuse. I just want to know one more thing.”

Loki looked at both ponies in front of him.

“What do you need it for?”

Male pony sighed and took off his cape and cape from other pony, which was the worst thing he could do.

Male pony, unicorn, looked just normal – dark blue fur with grey mane - but the other one looked like nightmare. SHE was also unicorn, but in her eyes was no mind. She looked at him with empty stare and moving was apparently the only thing she could do alone.

“This is my sister, we both once were Chrysalis´s students, but then we had to go on mission. It isn´t important what we had to do. I will just tell you that we failed. Because of me. When we returned to Changliville, she took all responsibility on herself, without telling me.”

Unknown pony paused for few seconds and foal saw suffering on his face.

“Chrysalis is revengeful and my dear sister took whole punishment on herself. Here you can see what is left from her. All I want is use the Shard to heal her mind, then we will leave.”

“I will help you, but not because of your story. Let´s go to my place, make a plan.”

“Yes. I told you my story, so I think you should tell me, how did you became Queen´s student? I already know about Romeo, but I am more curious about your first meeting with Chrysalis.”

“It´s nothing special. Queen was just coming to us to buy poisons and potions and she always told me some stories, so I decided to serve her. By the way what is your name?”

“Midnight and this is Moontear.”

Their plan was simple. Just sneak past the guards and go straight to the Shard room. Fortunalety everything went perfect and few hours later, all three unicorn were standing in front of Shard.

“OK, so what do we have to do?” asked Loki and looked on Midnight.

Magic strike hit Loki in the face and throwed him few meters away. His mouth filled with blood and he silently swallowed it.

“You are so predictable.” Said to Midnight. “Sister, the letter, everything! It seems that you forgot that I learned your handwriting. Romeo!”

True. Both unicorns in front of him shined. Midnight turned into Romeo and girl into Julia.

“You knew that and still didn´t do anything?” aked white unicorn with surprised face.

“Don´t be silly.” Loki attacked him with his grey magic, but bolt dissapeared few inches before hurting Romeo.

“You shouldn´be silly. You think that you can beat me in duel of magic? Don´t forget that I was Chrysalis´s student longer than you.”

“What do you want to do with Shard?” asked Loki don´t minding Romeo´s talks.

“Ressurect Julia! What else? Julia that YOU murdered!” now Romeo lost all his patient and showed to Loki that he is pretty much insane.

“I am sorry to say it, but I have to stop you.”

“Bring it!”

Loki fired more bolts of magic, but they all either missed or disappeared in the air. Romeo attacked too. During the battle Loki moved to Julia and noticed that she really is death. The reason, why she was still moving was Romeo´s magic inside her.

How did he called it? Magic of Puppets?

“So you are necromancer now?” asked, but the only answer he got was magic blast into stomach.

“You took everything from me! And I thought that we were friends!” screamed white unicorn and continued in attacking Loki, who wasn´t able to defend himself. At the end, grey unicorn ended up in pool of blood.

“Too bad it had to end this way.” Whispered Romeo and focused on Shard. His horn glowed with white magic and embraced the gem.

“Yes! This is perfect, with this power Julia will-“ pain pierced his entire body and unicorn coughed a blood.

“Wha…” he looked behind him and saw Julia holding handle of silver dagger, stabbed in his stomach.

“You seem…surprised.” Whispered Loki, trying to stand up.

“What?” coughed more blood.

“During our fight…I had time to…explore Julia´s body. I filled her with my magic…mixed it with that inside her…and then used it to control her body.” Even speaking was obviously incredibly hard for Loki, but it seemed that pain was slowly going away.

“You are lying! Julia…hadn´t strong magic!”

“No. She hadn´t. I said “magic inside her”, do you get it?”

Romeo´s eyes widely opened.

“That is true. She was pregnant. I used her and your unborn babies magic to strengthen myself.”

“You…monster.” Coughed Romeo and falled on floor.

“Too bad I won´t know how to use the Shard, but I have to cancel that spell.”

Loki slowly walked to the gem, every step pierced him with pain, but when he finally made it, he realized that Romeo´s spell can´t be canceled.

“I have to destroy it. It´s the only way or the power inside will burst and destroy whole castle.”

With all he had left from his power Loki raised the dagger and stabbed it in the middle of Shard.

Pain was quick and merciful.

Loki woke up in his room. More precisely in his bed. He tryied to remember what happened, but his memories ended at the explosion of Shard.

“Don´t strain your head too much, you are lucky, that you are even alive.” Spoke voice next to him and when he turned around he saw Queen Chrysalis.

“What happened?” his voice was strangely quiet.

“When the Shard shattered all it´s power poured inside  you, which healed all your wounds, but also exhousted you so much that you lost consciousness.”

“Exhousted? How long did I slept?”

“One week, I thought that you will never wake up.”

“I understand.” He closed his eyes for a second. “What happened to…”

“Romeo? He died…again.”

“Yes.”

Loki with painful grim sat on the edge of bed.

“My Queen I have to ask you something, what was in my head for a while now.”

“Yes?”

“What is love? I know that Romeo felt it to Julia, but why? All it did was making him insane!”

“I can´t answer you on this question, because I don´t know it either. Everypony has to make their own decision, if love will be their friend of enemy.”

Loki just nodded.

“I think that you should see yourself.” Said Chrysalis uncertainly.

Grey unicorn didn´t really understood but he walked to mirror.

“What?”

Suddenly there were green lanes in his mane and tail and when he used his magic to see himself closer, he saw that his magic turned from grey to green.

“What is this?”

“As I said, the power from Shard is now inside of you, even thought you propably still can´t use it, it changed your appearance a little.”

“I actually like it. I always thought that color of deception is green.”
