Chapters It was a normal school day for Scootaloo. She would be lazily slumped over her desk as her teacher, Miss Cheerilee would drone on and on about another rather boring subject. Scootaloo couldn’t cope with how boring the lessons would get, but tried to listen anyway; she needed to learn at least something.
She took a quick glance at her friend Apple Bloom, who was busy copying down every statement their teacher would make. She stared wide-eyed at how focused Apple Bloom was. Did she actually enjoy school? The thought of enjoying any school lesson puzzled Scootaloo. What was fun about a lesson? What did you even gain from it? Most ponies grew up to become something that didn’t need you to work out what the square root of something or a random percentage. Scootaloo never saw any need to work it out.
She turned her attention back onto Miss Cheerilee, but was becoming increasingly uncomfortable by the large bruise on her back left leg. She would often end up hitting it on her chair by accident, and would end up letting out a small gasp which would often catch the attention of anypony close by.
Focus, Scootaloo, She told herself just suck it up.
It wasn’t strange for Scootaloo to turn up to class with a random bruise or a cut; after all, she did often have a lot of falls on her scooter, so the class didn’t really pay much attention to her.
“Scootaloo?” She heard a voice speak, she blinked her eyes and looked to see Miss Cheerilee was looking at her, expecting some sort of answer.
“Oh, umm, could you repeat that, please?” She asked nervously, which triggered the class to let out a small giggle.
“I said-” She sighed impatiently “-What’s 4aX3a+b if a= 3 and b= 28?” Scootaloo gave a nervous laugh.
“I have no idea” She replied.
She’d had no clue what the hay Miss Cheerilee was talking about; she hadn’t been listening to a single thing she had said. All she knew was she was doing algebra, which was a pretty sour subject with Scootaloo.
Twist immediately put her hoof up “I know the answer, Miss Cheerilee!” She shouted.
Scootaloo rolled her eyes and let out a heavy sigh as the class went back into its normal routine. She looked around to make sure no one was looking and took a quick peak at her leg. It was a deep blue with a deep purple on the inside, and it covered all of her back leg. She gently touched it, but with it being so sensitive she let out a squeak.
Her face flushed with embarrassment as Miss Cheerilee took her gaze towards her “Scootaloo, are you alright?” She asked.
“Oh, sorry miss” She sighed “It’s just my bruise still hurts a bit”
Miss Cheerilee’s face turned sympathetic “Maybe you should take a break from your scooter stunts” She smiled and then carried on with the lesson.
“Yeah… Scooter stunts” Scootaloo murmured quietly “That’s where it came from”
The class had finally ended, and Scootaloo was ready to leave. She picked up her bag and started walking out of the classroom with Apple Bloom.
“Hold on a minute, Scootaloo” Miss Cheerilee called “Can I have a word with you in private” She turned back to see her teacher giving her a friendly smile, she nodded and turned around.
“I’ll wait for you” Apple Bloom said before leaving the classroom.
Scootaloo sat herself in front of her teacher’s desk and waited for whatever speech she had about paying attention in class.
“Are you feeling alright, Scootaloo?” Miss Cheerilee asked.
Scootaloo’s eyes widened in surprise; the question had caught her off-guard.
“I’m fine, miss” Scootaloo answered.
“It’s just that you’ve seemed a bit off these past few weeks. Is anything getting you down?” She asked with genuine concern in her voice.
“I’m fine, just a bit tired” It wasn’t entirely untrue.
“Oh, well Scoot” She gave another friendly smile “If there’s anything bothering you then I’m here to help” Scootaloo nodded before leaving the classroom.
Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle were sat near the exit, waiting for their friend patiently. She gave them a small smile as she trotted towards them “What did Miss Cheerilee talk about?” Her friends asked curiously.
“Same old boring stuff about not concentrating in class” She answered.
Two of the trio headed towards their homes happily. Scootaloo however didn’t like the prospect of returning home; she knew what would happen if she did. She winced openly, which caught the attention of her friends “Scoot, you alright?” Sweetie Belle asked worriedly.
Scootaloo let out a nervous chuckle, then scratched the back of her head “Just my bruise hurting a little bit” She avoided eye contact with her friends, which raised a few suspicious glances.
“Maybe you should tone down the tricks on your scooter” Apple Bloom suggested “It seems like every day you’ll come to school with a new bruise”
“I would never tone down my tricks!” Scootaloo gave a faked cocky smile “The only way to get better is to push yourself to the limits!”
The group carried on walking down with her friends until finally she was left with Sweetie Belle, who was about to enter her home “Scoot, if anything is bothering you… You know, you can tell us” She pointed out before entering her home.
Scootaloo let out a sigh before walking further and further into the dirty streets of the eastern side of Ponyville. This place was the more dangerous place of Ponyville. Well, Ponyville wasn’t exactly dangerous in any way, but if there was a place to be called dangerous, this would have to be it. Nothing bad really happened with crime here, but the houses weren’t the best.
Scootaloo stopped in front of a small house; it was one floor and was made out of dull grey bricks. The houses roof colour was slightly faded and a few of slates were missing. This was what Scootaloo called home.
She took a step forwards and entered the house, trying her best to be quiet.
“Scootaloo” She heard the booming voice of her father, Sharp Gaze.
She froze in place, and looked over at the sofa where her father was getting up, her heart began beating fast against her chest as she stood and stared as her father’s crystal blue eyes stared into hers.
“You’re a minute late” He growled.
Scootaloo let out a loud gulp, and her heart rate increased “M-mi-miss Cheerilee wanted to t-ta-talk after school” Her father took a step forwards and closed the door and closed the curtains.
“No exceptions!” He screamed “Do you remember what happens when you’re late?” Scootaloo nodded vigorously, looked at her bruise and remembered the night before.
Before Scootaloo could do anything she was thrown against the wall.
“Time for your punishment, Scoot” He let out a twisted laugh and pressed his hoof down on her wing.
And all Scootaloo could do was lay there and take the pain.

So this is the first time I’ve ever uploaded one of my stories to the public. Heh, and I’m honestly pretty nervous about it… But please don’t expect it to be amazing as I am only thirteen.
(Don’t expect perfect punctuation and grammar, either)
Forgot to mention in my first chapter that I'm too lazy to do the whole country voice with Apple Bloom and Applejack. Also, the characters are twelve years old, so the abuse from Scootaloo's dad has been going on for a pretty long time.
Scootaloo’s eyes opened. She felt an aching pain in her left wing, but couldn’t move to check it; she ached everywhere! She took a look around the room, and noticed this wasn’t her bedroom, but the living room floor.
What am I doing here? She thought to herself.
Surely she must have been up in her bedroom, asleep. Her eyes widened in realisation. Last night had been the worst beating from her father, and she had no idea how she would explain this to her friends. How bad did she look?
Scootaloo lifted herself up slowly, feeling pain where the bruises had risen. She took a quick look at her legs and noticed almost every inch of her legs were covered in rising bruises and she knew she looked bad, even if she couldn’t see herself yet. She hobbled towards the bathroom wincing in pain as she came to look at herself in the mirror. What she saw was a shock.
She had a large lump on her chest where she had been hit, and had a large purple bruise covering it. She had one black eye and on the left, but that wasn’t the main thing that caught her eye. Her wing where her father had stepped on it was bent slightly downwards, meaning that it was indeed broken. Panic overcame her; she needed to go to the hospital!
She was about to rush out of the house when she immediately stopped herself. How could she explain this to her friends? They would know something was wrong, but she needed to do something about it. Deciding she would take her chances she snuck out the door and into the unpopulated street.
Knowing it was best she stuck to the shadows, making sure nopony could find her in the alleyways of Ponyville. The worst she would find would be homeless ponies begging for money, and maybe a few stray cats.
She reached the much safer area of Ponyville, and saw a lot of ponies roaming the streets probably heading towards work or school. After all, it was Friday.
Making sure that nopony could find her in the streets she made a break for it, and ran towards an alleyway on the other side of the open street. She made it into the other alleyway but lost her footing and fell forwards, letting out a small squeak. She heaved a huge sigh and pulled herself up, she was about to take off again, but something stopped her.
“Scootaloo?!” a voice gasped, it was a voice of one of her classmates.
She froze and turned her head to see Rumble running forwards in shock “what the hay happened?!” He looked at her bent wing and the bruises coating her body.
“I had a really bad scooter accident” she lied, but Rumble didn’t look convinced.
“Scootaloo, I’m not a featherbrain” Rumble looked her over “you’re way too good to have a scooter accident this bad” Scootaloo let out a sigh, and sat herself on the floor, head hung low.
“Care to tell me what really happened?” she felt a wing around her back, she flinched and moved away.
Scootaloo decided to be slightly honest with him “I had a fight” she answered “got beat up pretty bad” she chuckled “please don’t tell anyone; I don’t want them knowing I lost!”
Rumble laughed “sure” he gave her a smile “let’s just get you to the hospital” he helped Scootaloo up and helped her towards the hospital, without slinking in the shadows, but of course this did draw a lot of attention.
“Squirt, what happened?!” she recognised the voice of Rainbow Dash.
Scootaloo gave her idol a smile “I was practicing a few tricks on my scooter and I may have had a pretty bad tumble” she lied once again, but Rainbow Dash looked convinced unlike Rumble had.
“Good on you” Rainbow Dash praised “you can’t get good without having a few accidents!” she eyed Scootaloo’s wing “but that broken wing sure looks bad” Scootaloo nodded.
“Hurts pretty bad” she admitted “but I’m used to it” they carried on towards the hospital, and as soon as the doctors saw her they took her straight in to look over her wing.
The doctors had told her it was broken – like she hadn’t already guessed – and told her she needed to stay at the hospital to let it heal for a few nights. Then they had said they needed to contact her father… Now that scared Scootaloo, but she knew her dad wouldn’t do anything in public.
She told the doctors her home number, and let them call her father. It’s not like he wouldn’t have found out about her trip to the hospital anyway, and he’d be even more mad if she hadn’t have told him about it.
Rainbow Dash had stayed with her the entire time, while Rumble left to go to school. She thanked him before he left, and decided to just chat with Rainbow Dash about the Wonderbolt’s and her scooter tricks… Even making up a story about how she hurt herself on her scooter.
“Scootaloo, your fathers here” a nurse called into the room, and Scootaloo’s eyes widened, and she looked at her father as he walked into the room with his icy cold gaze.
“Hey, Scoot” her father gave her a warm smile.
Scootaloo was shocked; he was a pretty good actor if he could act like nothing had happened the other night, and actually look genuinely concerned.
“Hi, dad” she replied warily.
“Hey, my name’s Rainbow Dash” Rainbow Dash spoke up “you must be Scoot’s father. What’s your name?”
“My name’s Sharp Gaze” he replied “if you don’t mind, could I have a word with my daughter alone?” he asked.
Rainbow Dash nodded and left the room, but not without giving Scootaloo a warm smile.
Scootaloo’s father’s gaze suddenly became angry and cold like usual “what did you say to them?” he growled quietly, and held his hoof down on Scootaloo’s arm, hurting her slightly.
“I didn’t say anything about last night!” she answered in a panicky tone “I just said I had an accident on my scooter, promise!” she tried to hold back tears from the pain, knowing her father would just press down harder for the enjoyment of doing it.
“Good” He gave a menacing smile, still pressing down on her arm “you know what would happen if you told them the truth?” he moved her face closer to hers, intimidating her.
“You’d r-ri-rip my wings off my back” she replied shakily.
“Exactly” he gave a sick smile “and we wouldn’t want that happening, would we?” he cooed with a patronising voice.
“No…” she looked away, imagining the feeling of her wings being pulled from her back, and the agonising pain.
He lifted his hoof from her leg “good little sparrow” he stood up and left the room “I have to go now” he told the nurse, and Rainbow Dash re-entered the room with three unlikely visitors.
Standing behind her were Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and Rumble. She gave them a weak smile, but noticed something off by Rumble. He looked rather scared about something, and she had a horrible feeling about it.
Had he seen what my father had done in here?

So yeah, here's the second chapter... Enjoy?
I know I haven't updated this story in a while and I can explain why... So here goes.
Well, I actually finished this story before I had even uploaded the first chapter, and my mum's boyfriend, Marc kept telling me I should upload the story onto this site because he thought I did pretty good with writing it. But me being me, I really have a thing against showing my stories to random strangers for whatever stupid reason and I didn't really like the idea, but I went through with it.
So, after uploading the first two chapters I decided to learn a little bit more about punctuation so I could improve it in my story, and that's when I realised there was a heck of a lot more types of punctuation than I previously thought. Realising this made me think about how I could improve my story, but well... I kind of started writing a completely different story to practice with it, and then I got really into writing it. During that time I realised I was improving a little bit with writing and then I didn't want to upload the next chapter because I knew I could do better. So I put it off...
I'll be honest, for a while I felt kind of guilty about kind of giving up with the whole story, and I didn't want to admit it. I was going to put the story on hiatus, but I decided to do something different.
I've decided to re-write chapter 3 and all the other chapters to make them better and less rushed. Heh, I'm actually re-writing chapter 3 right now, but I don't know when I'll be finished. So, yeah...

Hopefully I'll be done by the start of next week.
Scootaloo had been stuck in the hospital for a few more weeks until she was finally given the all clear. Her wings were fully healed meaning she didn’t need a bandage, but she was ordered not to go riding her scooter for a few more weeks just for health and safety reasons. But if she couldn’t ride her scooter, then what excuse would she have for the next time her dad got angry? She just had to hope for the best.
Luckily, Scootaloo had managed to stay as far away from her dad’s house as possible once she had left. She had basically been living at Apple Bloom’s house for a week afterwards, and she thanked Celestia nopony had been suspicious on the reasons why she stayed there for so long.
But all good things must come to an end, and Apple Bloom had finally told Scootaloo she couldn’t sleep at her house that night.
It was an awful feeling for Scootaloo after not seeing her dad for so long. Just knowing that as soon as she got in there she would probably be called all sorts of things from her dad when he got into his drunken state, and then possibly being hurt once again and ending up in the hospital only being able to tell the hospital staff, “I had a scooter accident again.” Then getting a lecture from them about how she shouldn’t have been on her scooter in the first place.
Scootaloo was standing in front of her house, contemplating whether or not she should just find herself an alleyway to sleep in; for some reason that seemed like a better option. She had actually done that before, but it had been a long night and when she woke up the next morning she felt awful and smelt awful. Of course both Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara had taken advantage of that and had constantly teased her about how much she smelt the entire day.
Maybe going inside was a better idea.
Taking a big sigh, Scootaloo took a few steps towards the door. She tried keep her hoofsteps as quiet as possible just in case her dad had amazing hearing and could hear her all the way outside. Now standing outside the door she slowly and quietly pushed the door open, hoping she could just sneak past her dad and hide away in her bedroom until the next day.
Her luck was out when she heard her father begin to speak.
“Scootaloo, come over here,” his voice was much clearer than it had been in years, and his voice sort of rang through the entire house.
The orange filly didn’t know whether she should run, or go over to her dad. There was always the possibility of running away now and staying the night in the alleyway, or hopefully get a few insults off of her dad and head to bed.
“Scootaloo,” his voice started to sound impatient.
Realising there was no way she was going to escape her dad she began to nervous trot towards the sofa where he was sitting. She looked on the table in front of him, and saw most of his alcohol was sitting there, untouched.
“Y-yes Dad?” Scootaloo stuttered.
His blue eyes turned to lock with Scootaloo’s. They still held the same coldness in them, which made Scootaloo shiver.
“Where have you been all week?” He questioned angrily. “Have you been avoiding your father?” He began to stand up from the sofa.
He was much taller than Scootaloo, her height only reached up to the top half of his legs (no idea what to call them.)
“I’ve j-just been s-staying at Apple B-bloom’s house,” her attempts at speaking clearly were weak, and she could only manage to mutter the few words.
She immediately felt one of her father’s hooves knock her to the floor, taking all the wind right out of her. His hoof pressed down onto her orange skin, and his piercing blue gaze held only pure anger.
“You stupid little kid,” he snarled. “Did you really think you could stay away for a week and I would let it slide?” He spat venomously.
Scootaloo’s heart was beating hard as she tried to struggle free of her dad’s grip. She only heard a small chuckle from her father, and he slowly moved his head closer to hers trying to intimidate her. It was working.
In the heat of the moment, Scootaloo’s managed to spit a load of spit into her dad’s eye, causing him to move out of the way. She felt the weight of the hooves slowly lower, and she saw her chance to escape.
She jumped back onto her hooves and raced out of the house and onto the dark street, hoping she had enough time to run out of his sight and find a good place to sleep for the night.
Scootaloo noticed it was raining as she got out of sight of the house and made her way down a shadowy alleyway, taking the same route she had taken to the hospital a week ago. It caused Scootaloo to shake in fear whenever she remembered what had happened the night before she ran, and how her dad seemed to show absolutely no remorse for what he had done.
Her mane and fur was now soaking wet, and she soon realised her dad hadn’t gone after her and she was safe, but that didn’t stop her from running. There was still that fear he was still coming after her, and he was just hiding away until she let her guard down.
She barely noticed the grey body of a colt as she continued to run into the open streets of Ponyville, but the colt certainly noticed her and knocked straight into her side, causing her to fall to the floor.
Scootaloo was so sure it was her dad who had knocked her to the ground, and she began to thrash on the floor trying to attack the colt.
“Scootaloo, what the hay happened?!” She instantly recognised the voice as Rumble’s.
She stood back up and her head hung low, a small tear trickled from her eye followed by another, and another until she was crying and sobbing loudly.
Why is my life so hard? Why do I have to live like this? Why me? The thoughts swirled through her head as she continued to cry in front of Rumble.
The grey Pegasus cautiously moved forwards, stepping closer and closer to the crying Scootaloo, trying to figure out what he could possibly do to comfort her. She realised he was slowly moving forwards with his wing outstretched, and she gladly accepted the comfort.
She felt his wing wrap over her back, and she instantly began to warm up.
“Scootaloo, what did your dad do?” Rumble asked.
The orange filly stiffened. “How did you know my dad did it?”
She heard a small sigh come from Rumble before he began to speak, “I heard what your dad said in the hospital,” he admitted. “I was actually coming over to see if you were okay; Apple Bloom told me you were going back to your dad’s house today.”
“Y-you heard?” Scootaloo stuttered.
Rumble turned to look in the orange filly’s eyes, and gave her the most serious look he could muster. “Scootaloo, I want you to tell me everything.”
Scootaloo gulped and looked away nervously. It felt like a lifetime until she turned to look his way again and give him a nod. “Fine,” she sighed.
“Everything.”
Author's Note
This chapter was originally going to be longer but I decided against it; I realised it was going to take me a while if I continued to write the chapter and I felt bad for keeping everyone waiting for so long.
