My Little Jackie

Chapter two: Shopping trip.

I woke up this morning expecting Applejack to be gone, and everything from the last four days to have all been a dream. However when I was fully awake, I felt something warm up against the top of my chest, around the top of my rib cage. When I looked down, at where the warmth was coming from, I found Applejack nestling against me. She yawned, but didn't wake up. I was surprised, but mainly just down right joyous that Applejack was still here.

I looked back up, and noticed my bedroom door was open. My guess is that Applejack had a nightmare, and crawled into my bed to be with me, to seek some comfort. I held her close, and said "I got you, Baby girl." She tried to hug me herself, which of course made me smile. I knew she technically wasn't a girl, but for me she was.

I snaked my way out of bed, holding Applejack steadily close to me, as I was heading for the living room. I cradled Applejack the entire way there, and wouldn't let go of her, even when I sat down on the couch. She seemed so content with sleeping, that I let her stay asleep for a while.

Eventually, I knew I had to go the store and get clothes for AJ to wear, and some baby care stuff I know she'll need for the time being. I didn't know what to do though. I couldn't take Applejack out, because stores wouldn't allow animals inside in the first place, and bringer her would arouse suspicion, but mainly because I couldn't leave her at home when she's just a baby!

I sighed, but I did remember something. I could get one of my neighbors to watch Applejack, and bribe them to not say a word about her, while I'm gone I've only known them for a couple days, now, but I had no choice. I had some good neighbors to choose from; Mr. Smith, the captain of a cargo transport, Ms. Renal, a nice old lady who owned a sweet shop, or Sarah Jenkins, the teenager from next door.

I decided to get Sarah to do it, since she would be the easiest to reach and bribe. I made sure Applejack was still asleep before I left, hoping that she'd stay asleep while I was gone for the brief moment in time. I got my car keys, wallet, and put some clothes on. I had put on dark grey jeans, a red t-shirt, and a dark blue pull over hoodie. I walked out of my house, slowly opening and closing the front door so I wouldn't wake up Applejack.

I went next door, while the wind blew through my long curly hair, which looked short if it wasn't straightened, and knocked on my neighbor's door. I remember the last name "Jenkins" not because of that cartoon "SpongeBob Squarepants" but because of my best friend from my childhood, Jane Jenkins. The door opened, and Sarah's mother was there and asked "Yes, how can I help you?"

"Hi, Ms. Jenkins, my name's Logan Lyon and-"

"Logan? It's me, Jane!" Ms. Jenkins said, pulling me into a hug. At first I didn't believe her, since it was a one in million chance for me to have moved next door to one of my best friends. "I haven't seen you since you left for Nevada! How've you been, how's Amanda?" She began asking. Now I knew this was my best friend, Jane always asked two questions a sentence whenever asking questions. OK, not those other times, but she only ever did it with me.

"Amanda cheated on me." I flatly said, all emotion void from my voice, before changing the subject. Before I broke the hug, I noticed rah sitting in the living room, listening to her music on her IPod touch. I turned back to my oldest friend, and said "Hey, I've gotta go to the store, and I've got a baby girl I can't take with me. Can Sarah watch her?"

Apparently, Sarah wasn't listening to some music. She had her earbuds in her ears, but no music was actually playing, and she said "Yeah, I'll watch your daughter!" and she jumped up from the couch. She was wearing a white tank top, with purple sleep pants. Her long brown hair flopped up and then back down a bit when she jumped out of her seat.

In the five days I've known Sarah, she loved to babysit and help others. "Thanks Sarah, let me introduce you to her." I told her as I walked back to my home, with Sarah following me. When I got to my house, I opened the door and walked in. Sarah quickly followed me, and saw Applejack immediately.

The worst part is; she recognized Applejack. "Is... Is that Applejack from MLP:FIM?" She asked, walking towards AJ. I could hear the surprised tone in her voice, and even heard the tiny bit of fear. I walked over to her, sitting next to Applejack and petting her, running my hand through her mane. I knew that Sarah was a fan of the show, and that she even had pony merch as well, which made me the most comfortable with having her babysit Applejack.

"Yes, it's her. The real Applejack, and I found her on my couch yesterday morning." I explained to Sarah, hoping she wouldn't flip out. As evidence that it really was the real Applejack, I went to my bedroom closet, taking out Applejack's Stetson, and showed it to Sarah. "Hey, I'll strike you a deal," I began, pulling out my wallet and twenty dollars, "I'll give you forty dollars, twenty now and twenty later, if you don't gossip about Applejack. Deal?"

Sarah looked confused and scared. "Deal." She said after a minute of silence, taking the twenty from me.

I nodded a "Thank you", and closed the door as I left my house. I got into my car and drove off to the store, to get what I needed. When I was driving, I felt really confused as to what was happening in my life, and to what I was doing. "Okay, let's review..." I told myself, driving closer to the store. "I've had a couple of crappy days, and now I've a baby filly being babysat by a teenage girl in my house, who's also a Brony like me."

I wasn't always good at summarizing stuff; a weakness of mine. I arrived at the store, and I parked as close to the front as I could. I knew that I'd be buying a lot today, so I wanted to get in and out as fast as possible. After I entered, I immediately went for anything related to baby care, and got it.

When I was in the store, I bumped into this nice woman, who was wearing jeans and a short sleeved black shirt underneath a black video game hoodie. She had curly hair, a bronze color, with green eyes. They were beautiful, her eyes. I was taken back by her beauty. "Hi, um... Sorry for running into you, ma'am." I shyly said, trying to find the right words.

"It's okay, sir, you alright?" She asked, a bit of concern in her eyes, but that was masked with how creative she was. I don't know how, but I actually found this girl, an amazing girl, who looked and seemed as creative as I.

"Oh no, it's okay, really..." I said, while trying not to stutter or say "um" almost every time I spoke. "My name's Logan, may I know yours?" I asked, and got a giggle as a reply at first.

"My name's Darby." The woman said, smiling at me a bit. "I'm sorry, but I gotta go, but it was great talking with you!" Darby told me, as she took out a pen and some paper from her purse. She handed me the piece of paper before she left, and giggled a bit before leaving. When she left, I saw that on the paper, it had her number on it.

I smiled, and nodded before having to leave to continue my shopping. I continued on my day, with heading for the diapers, baby powder, and other baby care crap I still needed to get. I just pray that this doesn't put me on a budget till my next pay-day.

I ended up with a lot: A baby blanket, bottles, a bunch of diapers, baby power and wipes, teething toys, regular toys, a high chair, and the most expensive thing of them all; a crib. But I didn't care. For my little Jackie... it was all worth it, all the spent money. I paid for everything by means of my credit card. Thankfully, all the stuff I bought would fit in my SUV. I loaded everything up, with the help of a store employee who offered to help me, and then left for my house.

When I was driving home, I began to think about what would happen to Applejack as she would get older. But those thoughts were diminished to nothing when I got home. I took the lightest stuff out first; the diapers, blanket, and toys, ad walked to my front door. When I was about to unlock my door, however, I heard squealing and what sounded like farting noises. I unlocked and opened the door, walked inside, only to find Sarah giving Applejack raspberries.

I laughed a bit, and then said "Sarah, I'm back. How was Applejack? Did she behave?" as I was setting bags down. I feel like Jane's two questions per best friend thing is rubbing off on me, and turning it around a bit to where it's "two questions per best friend's daughter who's also YOUR daughter's babysitter".

Sarah looked up, smiling at Applejack. "Hey, Mr. Lyon, Applejack behaved herself. you need any help with getting anything else?" Sarah asked me, as she saw the bags on the floor. Before I could answer, Sarah raced me to the car, getting out more bags before I could even get out the front door.

"Sarah, I'mma need your help for a bit." I told her, as I brought in the bags of baby care stuff. I set the bags down in the kitchen, and said "Can you help me construct Applejack's new crib?" as me and her went out to the car again.

A little while later, me and Sarah were building Applejack's crib in my room, since putting Applejack in the guest room is out of the question for me. It took us a while, but we finally built it before Sarah would miss her curfew. I let Sarah head home, as Applejack was getting tired. I wrapped her in her new blanket, a nice forest green color, and set her in her new bed. Before I had set her down, I kissed her forehead. I told her, "Goodnight, Applejack. Daddy loves you." before setting her down, and giving her a stuffed bear I bought for her earlier today.

To be continued...
