Chapters It was a very calm and peaceful night in the great city of Canterlot. Everypony was in their beds and enjoying their dreams. And at Canterlot Castle, the servants of the Royal Sisters were in a deep slumber as well including Celestia herself. The only one that wasn’t sleeping was the Princess of the Night, Luna. The royal Alicorn was walking through the Castle’s halls as the full moon’s light beamed through the painted glass creating images on the ground. Her dark blue fur matched her long and flowing dark mane and tail. Her royal wear shined in the light of the moon as she stepped into the light.
Tis’ a very beautiful night for a walk around the castle. If only I could do this more. Luna thought happily to herself as she smiled. As she walked through a castle corridor, a faint sound quickly hit her ears. She was about to ignore it until she heard the sound again. It sounded like the cry of an infant.
Sounds like it’s coming from the Royal Gardens. I’d better investigate. As she finished her thought Luna rushed off towards the sound of the crying child. As she got closer she noticed it was different from other babies’ cries. It was more high pitched than the average foal crying. She finally got to the area where the crying had originated from and saw, naked and without anything to keep it warm, a baby Earth Pony colt no more than a few weeks old. The colt’s fur was black as the night’s sky and his mane and tail were the same color and it was short and spiky. His eyes were bright yellow which almost gave off a glowing effect. Luna was shocked to see an infant in the gardens alone. She then covered her ears when the baby gave off almost like what seemed a wolf pup’s howl for its mother to come.
Who’d leave a poor defenseless colt out here alone? Luna asked herself in her thoughts as she walked up to the crying colt. While Luna leaned forward trying to calm the colt she failed to notice that the full moon was starting to show. As the moon shone on the baby Luna could’ve sworn that the child’s eyes began to glow brightly. She paid this no heed as she picked up the infant. But when she picked him up, the baby’s cry grew louder.
“Oh! What do I do, what do I do, what do I do?!” Luna whispered to herself. She suddenly sparked an idea. Using her magic Luna slowly rocked the baby, who started to cry less and less before sleep overcame him. While still holding him in her magic, she carried the infant slowly back into the castle. She walked around the castle until she found her chamber, opened the door, walked in and placed the infant gently on her bed. As soon as she placed him down, a gurgling was heard coming from his stomach. He then began to groan and was about to cry. Luna then ran as fast as she could to the kitchen where she looked around for warm milk or anything that the child would eat. Luckily she found some dry formula. She grabbed a bottle and filled it up with formula and then placed water in it. She placed the rubber nipple on the top and, using a warming spell, she warmed the bottle to a temperature that the child could drink it. Luna flew back to her room as fast as she could and helped the baby get the bottle into his mouth. The child then started to suckle happily away at the bottle but went through it rather quickly giving off a burp saying he was full. As soon as the baby finished the bottle he suddenly became sleepy again and closed his large, yellow eyes. Luna smiled as the infant slept with a little, cute snore. She then grabbed a light sheet and wrapped the baby in it hoping it would keep him warm. Luna then heard the door to her chamber open and when she turned her head, she saw her older sister, The Princess Of The Sun, Celestia. Celestia was bigger than Luna by a few feet and had white fur. Her mane and tail was long and flowing and was almost rainbow colored. Her sister’s cutie mark was a sun that was bright yellow.
“Luna? Is everything alright?” Celestia asked as she walked into her sister’s chamber.
“E..everything is fine sister.” Luna replied as she walked in front of the child.
“Sister, I know when you’re lying to me. So what is wrong?” Celestia asked her sister again. Knowing she couldn’t get out of it, Luna moved from her view and Celestia saw an infant Earth Pony wrapped in a sheet.
“Luna….where did this child come from?” Celestia asked as she walked towards the baby.
“I do not know. I found him in the Royal Gardens. He was crying and I couldn’t just leave him where he was. I brought him here and fed him so that he could be well enough again.” Luna said. Celestia gave her sister a look before turning back towards the baby. She couldn’t help but feel a little sad for the child. Celestia once again turned towards Luna with a new light in her eyes.
“Very well sister I give you a choice.” Celestia said sternly “You may either give the child to the orphanage.” At this Luna’s head drooped a little “Or you may keep him as your own.” But then suddenly perked up when Celestia’s other choice came into play.
What do I do? I know that the child isn’t mine but his parents abandoned him in the gardens so they probably didn’t want him. But he won’t possibly make it through an orphanage. Oh…. Luna’s head was swirling with thoughts as she tried to choose her decision. But then as she stared at the sleeping child who was cooing in his sleep, she felt something. As if...she had a bond with the child. A bond stronger than a titanium chain. As if the child was her own. She then gave her decision to her sister.
“Sister, say hello to your new nephew.” Luna said as she walked to the infant. The infant’s eyes opened slowly and when he saw Luna, he began to giggle and reach for her making her smile and shed a tear of happiness.
“What shall his name be?” Celestia asked as she stared at her new nephew. Luna took a minute but then came up with an answer.
“Midnight. His name will be Midnight.” Luna replied as she leaned in towards the infant who grabbed her muzzle and began to chew it with his gums making her giggle. Celestia gave off her own giggle as she stared at the two.
“Very well. I’ll have some carpenters make some things for little Midnight in the morning. Goodnight sister.” Celestia said as she left the chamber. Luna didn't hear her. All she heard was the cooing and giggling of little Midnight. She then decided to sing him a little lullaby.

When she was done, she saw that her new son was now asleep with a light snore.
“Good night….my little Midnight.” Luna whispered as she ran a hoof gently across his face. She then climbed into her bed next to Midnight and happily fell asleep.
That’s how many years have passed since Luna found her son Midnight. And after all those years, Luna has made her bond with the child stronger with every night. They’ve done everything together from walking to watching the stars and they’ve both loved them. And tonight was a very special night. But could it change the two’s bond?
“MOM I’M HOME!” Midnight hollered down the hallways of the castle. He recently came home to be with his mom because today was, indeed, a special day. His fourteenth birthday was today and he was more than eager to celebrate it with her. Midnight has grown greatly over the years. Unlike other colts, he was more toned than them.
“Mom, where are you?!” Midnight yelled as he looked around for his mother. And then his sensitive hearing picked up something. He heard the sound of his mother singing happy birthday silently to herself. He then bolted to where he heard his mother was singing. And unlike other ponies that were young, he was fast. Fast as his Aunt Rainbow Dash which stunned his mother and Aunts. He made it to the Dining Room where he saw his mother sitting in one of the chairs singing.
“Hello honey.” Luna said lovingly. Midnight blushed a little as she called him that, he only gets called that when it was his birthday and apparently this one was no exception. As he walked forward he noticed that it was only his mom and nopony else.
“Hey mom are we expecting anypony else?” Midnight asked her. Luna only smiled slyly as she shook her head.
“No Midnight. Today it’s just you and me today. Your aunts couldn’t make it today because of separate issues.” Luna said but Midnight heard none of it. It was rare, very rare, to have a birthday with just his mom. Aunt Pinkie threw great parties but she always insists on inviting everypony. So to have a moment with just his mother was special to say the least.
“So what are we going to do?” Midnight asked his mother.
“Well I can’t forget to give you this.” Luna replied as she walked to her son. She leaned up to her son and placed a kiss on his cheek making him blush.
“Mom….really?” He asked as he blushed. Luna couldn’t help but giggle at him.
“I’ve gave you a kiss on every one of your birthdays. And today is no different.” Luna said with a smile.
“So what else what are we gonna do?” Midnight asked his mother.
“Well what do you want first? Your cake or your presents?” Luna asked.
“Cake! You don’t have to ask me that one!” Midnight said happily. Luna smiled and walked her son to the cake she had made for him by her friend and his Aunt Pinkie Pie.
“Wow.” Midnight said in surprise as he stared at the cake.
“It’s your favorite too. Triple layer banana cake with vanilla frosting.” Luna said to him.
“This birthday just got better!” Midnight yelled happily. He took a large portion of the cake and began eating fast enough to make his Aunt Celestia jealous. While he, and his mother who also ate alongside him, went through the cake both failed to notice the full moon that was becoming exposed from the clouds that covered it. When the moon was fully exposed, Luna and Midnight finished eating and Midnight gave off a belch saying he was full.
“Excuse me.” He said. Luna rubbed his head and using her magic she pulled the presents towards them.
“So Midnight, which one do want to open first?” Luna asked him.
“Aunt Twilight’s present.” He replied. Luna was surprised because Twilight’s gift was usually last when he opened them. She passed the gift covered in purple wrapping paper to him and when Midnight opened it, he smiled to see it was a book he was dying to get. It was a book titled ‘The Moonlight and The Shadow’.
“Where does she get these?” Midnight asked his mom. Before he got an answer his back suddenly felt weird. “Hey mom can you see if there’s something on my back? It feels… off.” He asked. Luna gave a confused look before she looked down her son’s back to find nothing there.
“Midnight I see nothing wrong with your back.” Luna said. Luna then got worried when Midnight began to shake. A little too violently.
“Midnight, are you okay?” Luna asked in a worried voice.
“I-I don’t know. Did it just get hotter in here?” He asked in replying. Before Luna could say anything, Midnight went into a coughing fit. Luna quickly took her hoof and rubbed his back and managed to get the coughing to stop. When she took her hoof off her back, he coughed again but when he was done, blood was on his hoof scaring him and Luna.
“Mom….I think I-AAAAAHHHHHH!” He screamed in pain as he fell onto the floor with a thump. Luna quickly got out of her chair and ran to her screaming son.
“MIDNIGHT!” She screamed as she ran to her son.
“MOM! WHAT’S HA-AAAAAHHHHH!” He screamed as his front right leg bent into an awkward position to where it almost broke. Luna tried to help her son but no matter what she tried, nothing worked. She then began to back up when her son began to growl like a wolf. An angry wolf. Midnight felt as if somepony through him into a large flame for his whole body burned. His muscles teared and healed as they grew larger, his leg bones broke and healed as they formed into a canine shape, paws erupted from his hooves along with shiny black claws bursting from his new paws making them bleed a bit, his teeth fell from his mouth and new dog-like teeth took their places making him mouth bleed, his muzzle extended and on the end grew a wet, black dog-like nose, his fur grew more rugged and dense including his mane and tail, and his ear grew more pointed as they located to the top of his head. Luna was now scared of what she saw. She no longer saw her son. All she saw...was an animal.
‘AAAARRRRROOOOOO!” Midnight howled. Luna tried to back away slowly but the beast automatically sensed her and leaped over her and in front of the door. It growled at her with a canine like snarl.
“Midnight stop! It’s me mommy remember?” Luna asked the feral animal only to get a loud bark from the beast. The Wolf-Pony then started to charge at Luna who used her magic and picked up Pinkie Pie’s gift, which was for some reason a frying pan, and slammed it into the side of the beast. It skidded to a halt and shook off the blow before trying to again. Luna picked up the frying pan again and swung as her son tried to charge again. Midnight had learned his lesson though and grabbed the pan with his razor sharp teeth. Using his raw power, Midnight managed to take the frying pan out of her magical grip and slammed it into a wall with a ding. Midnight then paid attention to his mother and licked his lips. Luna knew what he wanted and quickly ran to the door. But she was no match for the speed of the Wolf-Pony who was in front of the door before she was.
“Midnight, sweetie. It’s your mother! Please don’t do this!” Luna pleaded to the snarling beast. But when it pounced at her, she dodged it and watched her son skid into the dining table. Luna using her advantage, opened the door and slammed it behind her. Using her magic, she held the door shut as hard as she could. Midnight on the other side of the door slammed his body into the door hoping to get it open.
Why is he doing this? I’m his mother! Luna thought as she held the door. As she held the door, she didn’t notice the full moon being covered by a thick blanket of clouds. She then heard from the other side howls of pain coming from the beast. After a few minutes, she slowly opened the door and saw her son.
“M-momma what d-did I d-do?” Midnight asked her scared out of his mind. Luna trotted forward and tried to comfort him. “I-I’m a m-monster.” Midnight said, tears silently forming in his eyes. Luna gently placed him on her with her magic,
“Midnight I forbid you from calling yourself that word.” Luna said in a stern but sad voice a tear falling from her own eye.
“B-but I am a m-monster.” Midnight said and with that he finally broke down and wept into his mother’s coat.
“No you are not Midnight. You’ll never be a monster.” Luna assured him.
“But whatever I did… I nearly probably hurt you. What if I do hurt you or somepony? What if I-” He started but then placed his face in his mother’s chest fur.
“Shh. It’ll be okay Midnight. I promise.” Luna said in a gentle voice as she rubbed his head with her hoof. Luna now had a new job. To help her son control the beast within. Luna looked at her son’s flank and couldn't believe what she saw. His cutie mark. Which meant his talent was with his inner animal.
Two years have passed since Midnight’s went through the first of his many transformations and since then his mother Luna has been trying hard to help her son. She’s discovered though that he’s severely allergic to anything made out of silver and a plant called Wolfsbane which makes him run far from the plant. She’s tried many things to help him tame his inner animal but everything has failed. But tonight, she’s got a plan that is most likely going to work. Deep inside the castle two ponies were slipping through the night, wearing dark cloaks, as they tried to make it to the dungeons. The smaller one pointed towards the door in front of them and the taller one opened it. As they both made it inside the taller pony closed the door behind them.
“Why do we have to sneak around mom? It’s not like we’re doing anything wrong is it?” The younger one said throwing his hood back to reveal a young stallion whose fur, mane and tail that was black as the midnight sky like when he was younger. His eyes are bright yellow and in the night the seemed to glow like lamps. His body was well chiseled unlike any other stallion. It was Midnight.
“I forget sometimes that you don’t know the hatred some ponies have for your kind at times Midnight. Yes it is true that some Wolf-Ponies are among us but many ponies would rather see them killed on sight. I will not put you in such danger my son.” The taller pony said as she threw her own hood back to reveal a tall dark blue mare with a long twisted looking horn and strong looking wings. Her eyes, though a calm blue, also had a vibrant sense of ferocity and determination. It was none other than Princess Luna The Goddess Of The Moon and Dreams.
“So why are we sneaking into the dungeons at this time of night?” Midnight asked as he followed his mother.
“I have a new potion that is most likely to calm the beast.” Luna replied.
“Mother, you know that all other potions we’ve tried have failed to calm my beast. So what’s different about this potion?” He asked in an irritated voice.
“The Griffon who sold it to me said it is really a working vial. And besides-” She started. But then Midnight saw a dark flash in his mother’s eyes. “I made sure that he made a working potion.” Midnight felt a shiver of fear go down his spine. At times he forgets how dark his own mother could be but it was rightly so. Several of the potions that they were given were duds and or nearly killed him. Each of the vendors that nearly killed him never saw the light of day again. Luna pulled out a potion that looked blue just like her mane and fur. Midnight saw it was in a slim vial which was topped with a thick cork. He saw that the potion was called ‘The Moon’s Cure’. Midnight watched the potion glow a bright blue as the moonlight touched it.
“This is the one that will keep him at bay then?” Midnight asked Luna who nodded curtly. She uncorked the potion and helped him put it on his lips. His first taste of it was instantaneous. “OH CELESTIA THAT TASTES LIKE ROTTEN EGGS!” Midnight shouted. Luna gave him a stern look.
“That is what you said about the others but you will finish this potion Midnight.” She said as though he was a child. He hated it when she did that and finished the rest of the potion. He didn’t feel any different but they could only hope for now. Luna then found an empty cell with shackles in it for the hooves and body of a prisoner.
“Well Midnight, you know what to do.” Luna said as she opened the cell door which squeaked with its rusty metal. Midnight without saying a word walked back into the cell and sat on the cold stone floor. Luna then using her magic grabbed the shackles and placed them on him. He shivered at how cold the shackles were but he got use to it.
“Mother, will I ever be able to control this beast within?” Midnight asked as his mother closed the cell door.
“I do not know Midnight. But we can try.” Luna replied.
“But for how long? We’ve tried everything that we know of. Potions, caging me, everything. But none prevail. I’m cursed to have this wild animal within me.” Midnight said in a depressed voice. Luna snuggled him a little.
“Know this Midnight my son. As long as I draw breath you will be cured of this curse I promise.” Luna said. Midnight smiled and snuggled Luna back. She turned to leave and opened the door to leave for the night. She then closed the door that leads to the cells and was about to leave until she heard something. As she closed it she stopped and placed an ear on the door. She felt sad as she heard her son’s screams of pain as the full moon shined on his cell. She then heard something she wished she never had to hear. She heard the howl of her son’s monster.

“I wish this could stop Midnight. But it seems like it will not.” Luna said sadly. She shedded tears as she heard her son’s growls. Then as she brought her ear away from the door she heard something that spooked her. The snapping of steel shackles. She quickly opened the door and ran to her son’s cell and saw the beast snapping the shackles off the walls and it ripped off the shackle on his waist. The beast then using its raw power grabbed the cell door and ripped it off of its hinges. Luna then gasped in horror when the creature threw the cell’s door through a window. “MIDNIGHT STOP!” Luna yelled at the leaping creature. She looked out and only saw that the beast was silently leaping from rooftop to rooftop. She then leaped out the same window and spread her wings as she casted a invisibility spell over herself. She flew in tandem with her wild son but soon lost sight of him when he reached the edge of Canterlot.
“Oh! Where could that boy go?!” Luna asked herself in a panic voice as she looked through the skies for her son. She then heard the sound of the beast leaping into the forest. She quickly took action and flew to where the sound originated and saw him again running through the forest. Deciding to fly low, she trailed behind him which was a bit difficult since he moved as fast as Rainbow Dash when she ran. But then after a few minutes of trailing him and dodging tree limbs, she lost him.
Where’d he go?! Luna asked herself in her thoughts as she looked around the area of where he could’ve been. But then she heard his roar and was happy that she heard him. But then she became worried when she heard the roar of another predator. A bigger one. Luna’s mind started to panic as she heard the sound of the beast that she knew as a manticore. She headed towards the sound and soon found her son dueling a manticore bigger than he was. Its fur was shadow black, its scorpion tail was dark red and ridged with spines, it had massive dark red, bat-like wings, it had large ears and a massive muscular body. In its mouth was gigantic fangs which between them flowed saliva. Luna was amazed and scared to see her son stand up to a massive beast. As the manticore roared at Midnight, he roared back. The manticore swiped at him with its massive paws but with his speed Midnight dodged the swings. Midnight then slashed at the manticore’s face leaving three bloody scratches.
Nice shot Midnight! Luna screamed happily in her thoughts as she watched the fight. But then the manticore managed to land a swipe on Midnight and slammed him into a tree cracking the bark but Midnight quickly recovered and using his agility leaped onto the side of the manticore and began to bite it with his fangs making the manticore roar in pain and jump like an angry bull. Luna could only stare in amazement and revulsion as she saw her son rip a piece of the manticore’s flesh off and then spat it out as though he figured it was unworthy to be eaten by him. The manticore then leaped at him at wrapped it’s scorpion tail around him and slammed him into the ground.
“GET AWAY FROM MY SON YOU FOUL BEAST!” Luna yelled as she flung herself at the manticore. Using her magic she cut the tail of the beast off releasing her son from it’s grip. With the beast stunned she proceeded to pound on it with her magic. While she did this, Midnight took his advantage and pounced onto the manticore’s neck. Luna backed up by the shear force of Midnight’s tackle. Then using his razor-like fangs, he gripped the neck of the manticore and then yanked back bringing the beast’s throat with him. He swallowed the throat and then looked down at the manticore who was gasping for air as blood gushed from its neck. He then out of victory threw his head up and released a howl of victory.
He then dug into the manticore’s flesh and began to devour it. He loved the taste of raw meat and dripping blood as he ate his kills. Luna then walked forward, uncertain that he would recognize her, and called out to him.
“C-come on now M-Midnight it’s t-time to come home s-sweetie.” She said as calmly as she could. Midnight however snapped at his mother and growled as he had yet to finish his kill. Luna then sighed as she pulled out the one weapon he feared aside from silver…. a dog whistle. As she blew on it, Midnight whined as the high pitch whistle stung his ears. But as he tried his best to ignore the pain, he managed to swipe the whistle away from her. Luna began to back away from her son as he growled like an angry wolf as he walked towards her.

“N-now Midnight. I-it’s me. Your m-mother.” Luna said trying to get through to him. She then backed up into a large boulder. Midnight then prepared to pounce until he started to back up. Luna looked into the sky and saw that the full moon was being covered by a blanket of clouds. Midnight growled in pain as he felt his reverting transformation happen.

Luna watched her son’s body start to shrink to normal size, his claws and paws revert back into his hooves, his legs break and reform into a pony shape, his muzzle shrunk down and his canine teeth fell out and his pony teeth grew back in, his wet dog nose vanished, his fur turned short and glossy again, and his ears placed themselves back at the sides of his head. The moment his transformation was complete Midnight fainted on the spot. Luna caressed him a little before she picked him up with her magic. As she laid him on her back she took one last look around and leapt into the air and flew back home. She landed on her balcony without anypony noticing her or the lump on her back. She placed Midnight on his usual resting place where the moon wouldn’t hit his body and he couldn’t see it. She then grabbed his blanket and covered him up. She was about to leave when she heard him mumbling.
“M-momma. I-I’m so sorry. P-please don’t send me away.” She heard Midnight mumble as he began to shed tears. Luna quickly ran to him and gently using her hoof, she rubbed his head.
“M-momma! I don’t want to leave! Please don’t make me leave!” Midnight begged in his sleep.
“Shh. It’s okay Midnight. I promise you I won’t send you away.” She gently said as she rubbed his head. After a few minutes, Midnight was successfully asleep which made Luna sigh as she closed the door to his bedroom. She headed back to her own room where she silently cried herself to sleep. Just as she has done for the past two years.
The morning sun. To everypony in Equestria, it signaled the starting of a new day. And it meant the morning life begins. In Canterlot Castle, Midnight laid in his bed, which was old and torn apart almost, as he lightly slept. But then, his aunt’s sun snuck into his room and slithered into his eyes like snakes.
“Couldn’t Aunt Celestia ever make her soon less harsh on me when I wake up?” Midnight said as he tried to pull a cover over his head. After a few failed attempts at this he then tried to get up and fell to the ground. Slowly, he brought himself up and saw the dried blood on his hooves.
What did I kill last night? He wondered as he observed his hooves. Quickly, he ran into his bathroom, turned on the kitchen sink, and began to wash the red liquid off of him. As he cleaned his hooves and mouth, the blood began to flow down into the sink. After a few minutes, he grabbed an old washrag and dried himself off. As he finished drying off Midnight headed down stairs and smelled food…. delicious food.
Sometimes, being a Wolf Pony is a gift. He thought as he sniffed at the air. He caught the smells of eggs, flour, potatoes, and many other kinds of ingredients that the royal chefs used. Slowly, he walked down the hallway of the castle to the dining hall, keeping his nose in the air to smell the food. But then, a migraine struck him, quickly making him stagger as he held his head tightly. A flash of light appeared in his eyes and the image of what seemed to be a scorpion’s tail was shown to him.
Leave my son alone you monster! He heard a voice say and recognized it as his own mother. Who else could pull off the royal canterlot voice like that? He finally made it to the kitchen and saw his mother in it cooking some food. “Um… mom what are you doing?” He asked as the princess of the night who turned to face him.
“Oh! Um…. I was just trying to cook for you. A mother does do that for her son.” Luna explained as she flipped a pancake with her magic.
“Oh boy. Remember when you tried to cook me that dinner once? Aunt Celestia had to pay a lot of workers to rebuild that wall.” He said back making Luna blush.
“Well I have improved since last time. Nothing can go wrong now.” Luna said. But then, a pancake inflated like a balloon before exploding, sending batter all over the back of Luna, the wall, and a little splattered on Midnight. Midnight licked some of the pancake batter off of him before he looked at his mom with a what-did-I-tell-you look.
“I’ll grab a mop.” Midnight said as he ran towards the supply closet. As he neared the supply closet-
“Hello cousin .” A classy and grading voice said to Midnight. He groaned before he turned his head only to see a royal sized headache.
“Hello Blueblood.” He groaned as he walked to the supply closet and opened the door.
“Well, I see that your cooking skills are in a need to tuning.” Blueblood teased as he walked up to the stallion.
“Ha-ha. I forgot how to laugh.” Midnight said as he looked around the closet. “For your information it was mother who tried to cook. She just had a little accident and I’m helping her clean.” He added. Blueblood smirked at this.
“So Aunty Luna decided to cook? I’m amazed that the whole castle hasn’t crumbled down in sheer fear of her awful cooking.” Blueblood said eliciting a growl from Midnight.
“You should be careful who you insult Blueballs.” Midnight said quietly.
“What did you say?!” Blueblood asked in a slightly raised voice.
“Nothing. Well I’d better get going.” He said as he grabbed the mop and headed back for the kitchen.
“Indeed. Out of this castle.” Blueblood said as he started to walk away making Midnight stand still.
“Hey Blueblood!” Midnight yelled. Blueblood started to turn around before getting a punch in his nose sending him staggering backwards. Midnight only chuckled as the unicorn covered a bleeding nostril. “That was for Mother and Aunt Rarity you dick.” Midnight said as he walked off. Blueblood also growled at him.
“I’ll make sure you pay for that you mutt.” He heard Blueblood say as he rose from where he was knocked down.
If only he knew. Midnight thought as he walked back to the kitchen. After a minute of walking, Midnight saw his mother was washing the stove off with a rag.
“Mother, maybe this can help more.” He said to her. Luna then grabbed the mop with her magic and filled a pail with water. She and Midnight then began to wash the kitchen. After what seemed like an hour, the two smiled at their work as the kitchen was spotless.
“How about this time the chefs cook?” Midnight asked his mother. Luna chuckled a little at this statement.
“Indeed my son. I think it best to call back the chefs.” Luna replied as she whistled for the chefs to return. After the food was ready Luna and Midnight sat down in the dining hall and ate but they also talked about last night’s little…. escapades.
“Mother, I do not see why you need to worry. I didn’t hurt anypony.” Midnight said.
“But you could have. Be lucky that the Manticore was the thing you hunted. But next time a pony could be the target.” Luna said back.
“Like it ever would hunt a pony. The beast needs a lot of meat. A pony wouldn’t supply it.” He said.
“But a family of them could. I am just worried that the animal would go after innocent ponies.” She said back to him. Midnight just rolled his eyes as he took another sip from his glass.
“Well we know now that last night’s little potion was complete and utter failure.” Midnight said dejectedly making Luna frown at her son.
“I’m sorry Midnight. I really thought that would help with your… problem.” She said sadly.
“Mother-” He started “I don’t think this curse is curable. Maybe I should just run. Run from Canterlot and never look back.” Midnight said as a single tear fell from his eye. Before Luna could say anything, Celestia appeared with an look of concern on her face.
Oh boy. Midnight thought as he stared at his aunt.
“Midnight, you didn’t happen to run into Blueblood earlier today did you?” She asked him. Midnight shrugged at the question.
“So what if I did? Does he need help eating his food?” Midnight asked her which didn’t make her drop the frown on her face.
“I need you to tell me the truth. Did you or did you not punch him in the face?” Celestia asked. Midnight just nodded.
“May I ask why you did?” Celestia asked him.
“Gee I don’t know. Maybe because he made fun of how mother cooked.” He said angrily.
“Still that does not mean you assault him.” She said.
“But he-”
“But nothing. I will leave Luna to give you your punishment.” Celestia said as she walked away. Midnight turned to see his mother who glared daggers at him.
“Mother I can explain-” Midnight started.
“Save it Midnight. You and I both know that what you did was dangerous and not to mention stupid.” She said angrily.
“Mother I-”
“You know you could have killed him! You do not own your own strength!” Luna yelled.
“But Blueblood insulted you! Doesn’t that give me a reason to protect your honor?!” He yelled back.
“NO! IT DOES NOT! YOUR LITTLE PROBLEM COULD’VE BEEN REVEALED!” Luna shouted in her royal Canterlot voice. It took nearly every bone in Midnight’s body to not shout back at her. He just glared at Luna before he turned back towards his food and continued eating it.
“With the way you talk to me some days maybe I should’ve just let him insult you.” Midnight tried to growl quietly but Luna overheard him anyways.
“What was that?” Luna asked sternly.
“Nothing. If you’ll need me, I’ll be in my chamber.” He said as he got off his chair and began to walk back. But then, he heard his mother’s hoof stamp the floor of the castle.
“Midnight, you will not head back to your chambers.” She said angrily. Midnight just ignored her order and continued to walk. “MIDNIGHT! YOU WILL STOP RIGHT THERE AND TURN AROUND TO TALK WITH ME RIGHT NOW!”
“OR WHAT?! WHAT COULD YOU POSSIBLY DO TO ME THAT COULD BE SOOOOO BAD?! HUH YOU POMPOUS OLD MARE!” He roared. Out of anger, Luna used her magic, picked him up and slammed him to the wall, pinning him to it. She then walked slowly up to the struggling stallion who had an angry look on his face.
“This…. is what I’ll do to you. Not bad for an old mare is it?” She asked. Midnight still glared at her.
“Let. Me. Go. Now.” Midnight growled at Luna. When she didn’t relent Midnight continued to try and release himself. “I wish you never found me in the gardens that night!” He shouted.
“I wonder why I did that myself!” Luna said back. But then, Luna just realized what she did and released Midnight who just kept his head low to the ground. She then walked up to him with a look of concern on her face.
“Midnight, I-” She started as she reached out to him only to get her hoof swatted away from him.
“Leave me alone.” Midnight said as he pushed his mother aside and walked back to his chambers. As he did this he also felt tears stream down his face.
“W-What have I done? W-Who am I?” He asked himself as he reached into a drawer, pulling out a silver coin glazed in honey.
