Uncontrollable Hurricane- A new Life
Ugh it’s so hot in here! Thought Fluttershy fanning herself with one of her wings so that she could stay awake; but it was always like that in Professor Cheerilee’s lecture hall, even in the dead of winter she managed to give it the climate of the Mojave desert on one of it’s hotter days, so even if she had been saying anything worth listening to the ponies in the lecture hall would still of had a hard time listening to what she was saying.
Her first day at Canterlot University, meaning enrollment was defiantly not been what she was expecting, she was tired as hell having had to fly to Canterlot on only a few hours sleep as it seemed that every time she waited for dawn to break the fastest path from Cloudsdale to Canterlot was either covered in fog or a windstorm was going on and Fluttershy being a poor flyer in the first place didn’t want to have to deal with that, so here she was ten hours later in a lecture hall hotter than the pits of Tartarus with very little sleep; thankfully one of the T.A’s had offered to take her bags to her new room so that she could go to the enrollment meeting in short it would go without saying that the yellow pegasus was spent and was on a short fuse when she was tapped on the back by somepony behind her.
“Hey I saw you flying here from Cloudsdale a few months ago, Didn’t I?” Said a black Pegasus with a purple and blue mane that was sitting right behind Fluttershy in the hall. Indeed she was sure she had seen him before, he had been starting a fight with Thunderlane on the day in question because Thunderlane had cut him off in the sky; having been doing his job and moving the clouds in the sky to the place that was assigned rain on that day in Manehatten.
“Yes, you tried to unsuccessfully destroy the weather schedule for Manehatten because the weather Pegasus for that day had cut you off with a cloud.” Smiled Fluttershy trying to not provoke the Stallion even though she’d prefer he’d leave her alone.
“Ugh Yeah, sorry about that, I do sometimes tend to have a temper.” Sighed the Stallion as he remembered the punishment he had had to endure for his short fuse. “I’m Shadow by the way Neon Shadow and I so did not mean to introduce myself in a Bond James bond kinda way there.” Smiled Neon as he held out a hoof for Fluttershy to shake.
“I’m Fluttershy” Meeped out Fluttershy never having liked having to introduce herself to strange ponies, especially since Professor Cheerilee had almost caught them talking three times now and she preferred not to have her college experience be like her high school one back in Cloudsdale, Cloudsdale having been the closest high school nearby to Ponyville in the case of the Pegasi.
Ugh at least I won’t have to do any flying or physical activity classes. Sighed Fluttershy to herself as she had chosen her majors to be Veterinarian sciences, classical music studies, and theatrical arts.
“So what room have you got, you look pretty spend from flying here; maybe a nap will do you some good.” Said Neon as he looked at Fluttershy’s haggard appearance and the bags under her aquamarine eyes.
“Looks like the building that was dedicated to the memory of Commander Hurricane, Room 852.” Read Fluttershy from the little leaflet that Cheerilee had given her.
“Wow, just wait until you see your roommate, she’s definitely something else that’s for sure.” Whispered Neon taking in the horrified look on Fluttershy’s face
Great that’s just great, they tell horror stories of nightmare roomies at college! Though Fluttershy as she sighed and considered just going back to Ponyville to take care of her animal friends, she didn’t need a degree for all that just enough knowledge that her special talent in being able to talk to animals gave her. Suddenly the bell rang and everypony in the hall started to gather up their belonging as they filed out of the lecture hall and into the snow outside.

“Oh for Celestia’s Sake!” Screamed Fluttershy furiously as she noticed just how many buildings Canterlot University had. “Which building is the Commander Hurricane building?” She then started down the path that interlaced between the buildings watching ponies in snowball fight and building snowponies and all the other things that ponies like doing when it’s snowing out when she finally started to become depressed. If I don’t get some sleep soon I might just cry. She thought as a pink earth pony suddenly appeared in front of her smiling and looking at Fluttershy amusingly
“Hey what’s up my name’s Pinkie Pie are you lost or something. Hey, hey, I got an idea how abouts we be lost together.” Jabbered on the pink pony who Fluttershy had thought had called herself Pinkie Pie.
“So you’re lost as well.” Replied Fluttershy as she stood up and accepted the hoof that Pinkie was offering to her.
“Yep I’m trying to find out which way the building for the Smart Cookie wing is, but I just can’t seem to find it.”
“I’m Fluttershy and it’s the Commander Hurricane building for me.” Replied Fluttershy as they began walking and soon with the help of some of the older students there found the Smart Cookie and Commander Hurricane wings conveniently right next to each other.
“So here we are I’m sorry if I annoyed you Fluttershy, I’m a real fan of the sugar rush, but I’ll come see you again once it’s out of my system what room did you say you were in again.” Said Pinkie Pie having calmed down a little as they walked.
“Room 852.” Replied Fluttershy startled when Pinkie let out a low whistle.
“Oh, well, I’ll stop by later and see if your roomie has eaten you or not.” Sighed Pinkie Funny enough, Fluttershy was not encouraged by these words. “Don’t worry maybe she’ll like you because you’re a Pegasus like she is.” Fluttershy smiled as Pinkie waved and hopped off through the entrance to the Smart Cookie wing leaving Fluttershy standing alone outside the double doors that was the entrance to her building.

Fluttershy got out of the elevator that took her to the eighth floor and sighed as she began to walk down the aisle looking for her number, It was nice enough Inside, the doors were made of oak, and light holders in the shapes of Luna and Celestia lit the hallway in a soft light, plus the corridors weren’t as tight as she’d had thought they would be which she thought was nice as she turned a corner and found that the dorm room numbers had changed from the 830s to the 840’s
“849,850,851,852 Thank Celestia for that!” Exclaimed Fluttershy as she pulled her key from her backpack, slid the key into the lock and opened the door slowly.
The Pink-maned Pegasus closed the door behind her, as she stepped into what would be her new home, (for the next four years or so anyway), and to her surprise it was actually quite large. It seemed that she had walked directly into the living area, equipped with a couch, stove, refrigerator and all such necessities, there was also a door that she suspected would lead into the bedroom. Wow colleges in Canterlot sure do go all out, this is really good furniture. She thought as she inspected the stand where the T.V would go.
As she straightened up to let her eyes take in her new surroundings, she realized that she could hear something, a muffled noise. Music, she thought. Walking slowly around the suitcases piled neatly on the floor, (some were hers and some weren’t), she made her way over to the door. Fluttershy let her ear press against the door for a moment, before turning the handle, and stepping inside the bedroom. The Pegasus looked around confusedly, seeing where the music was coming from, before she found it exactly.
A blush suffused the bridge of her muzzle with colour, as she looked to the floor. Once inside she recognized the music as “Monster” by Skillet though she didn’t recognize the stranger singing quietly along with the lyrics as she unpacked her suitcases and boxes. So I guess this is my roomie, she thought as the taller Pegasus moved slightly to the rhythm of the music.
“I feel it deep within, it’s just beneath the skin, I must confess I feel like a monster, I hate what I’ve become, the night has just begun, I must confess that I feel like a monster.”
Fluttershy blushed an even darker crimson as she cleared her throat, letting the Rainbow-Haired Mare know her about her presence; she then turned to face Fluttershy without even seeming surprised, or changing her expression. She scanned Fluttershy’s appearance carefully, before looking directly at her.
“Umm…” Squeaked Fluttershy awkwardly, why was she getting so embarrassed? She couldn’t say anything, being shy as she usually was, but this was the pony she would have to live with for the next four years, and it already hadn’t started well enough already, though she had a tendency to make it that much worse.
Before Fluttershy knew it, she was beaten to speech.
“You’re Fluttershy then?” she said expressionlessly. Fluttershy nodded slowly, finally ridding her face of any kind of blush or silly look. For some reason, though she didn’t know if it was meant to or not, but the way she said her name, it seemed less welcoming than she’d been expected.
Jackass, she thought.
“Yeah, I’m your roomie, I guess…” upon speaking she could have sworn she saw a slight sneer on the younger mare’s face before she continued unpacking. She’s turning her back on me – without even introducing herself – man she’s rude… “And you are…?”
“Dash,” replied the Rainbow maned Pegasus casually, not even turning to face her.
“Full or Part?” asked Fluttershy. At last the mare turned to face her, still wearing that disgusted look on her face.
“My full name is for my friends, you ditz,” The younger mare informed her, making Fluttershy feel taken aback slightly by she didn’t know what. Her rudeness, or the hostile way she called her a ditz
“I’m not asking to be your friend, you moody bitch,” Replied Fluttershy, her tone raising a little louder than she’d intended, “But you could at least be civil, don’t you people know any manners, or is that something only taught where I come from?” the mare looked her up and down once more.
“You look like you’ve fallen out of the fillyfooler-tree and hit every branch on the way down.” Fluttershy scowled at her, biting her tongue. “Or maybe someone pushed you out of the tree, your cute pink-haired Fillyfriend perhaps?” Fluttershy’s eyes widened.
“What’s Pinkie got to do with this? And how do you know I was talking to her, are you spying on ponies around here?” Dash rolled her eyes slightly with a sneering smile.
“Oh please, that Fillyfooler is Applejack’s room-mate, I saw her not a moment ago and she said she saw Pinkie chatting you up.” Fluttershy Glared at her, if looks could kill, Dash would have been doused with petrol and set ablaze.
“What’re you looking at?” Dash sneered.
“I don’t know, I guess they just don’t label bad-tempered bitches like they used to anymore.” Fluttershy smiled nastily.
“Well, maybe they thought bad-tempered bitch wouldn’t fit on my head.”
“Certainly not on your pussy,” replied Fluttershy with a cocky smile, “they couldn’t fit a toothpick on that. Tell me, when you’re fillyfooling whore’s riding you, does she have to ask if it’s in yet?” It all happened so fast that it took Fluttershy a second to realize what was happening. Dash soared at her, Pinning her throat and knocking her hard up against the wall, making Fluttershy choke slightly in need for air.
“DON’T talk about things you don’t know FUCK ALL ABOUT!!!” Fluttershy coughed hard as she felt the mare’s hoof on her throat push harder down. “And as for politeness…” She continued, her face so near to Fluttershy’s that the bridge of her muzzle was touching her own, “I don’t know about where you come from but where I come from it was a lot harder to get along in life that just mind your fucking p’s and q’s. So you ignorant little fuck, don’t talk to me unless you have a single clue what you’re on about.” With this she released the pink-haired mare and she let her fall to the floor, going back to her unpacking as if nothing had happened. Fluttershy coughed as she held her throat where Dash had held her, I can tell this isn’t going to be an easy place to live, she thought, glaring at the back of Dash with pure venom, that return flight to Ponyville’s really looking good now…

Even though sleeping in a room with a Pegasus who had refused to even tell her her full name made her scared, Fluttershy was too tired to really stay awake and so even though her thoughts were filled the ideas of what Dash could do to her while she slept she couldn’t keep her eyes open, and so when she opened her eyes the next morning it was to be pleasantly surprised that her body was still in one piece and that Dash hadn’t done anything to make her wet the bed or something else. She rolled over on her side to look and she how long she had slept and when she saw what time it was her heart nearly burst through her chest.
6:45 am, oh Celestia, I overslept my first class starts in less than an hour! She shrieked in her head as she jumped up and started to gather all her supplies and other things she would need for them coming day, and rushed to the bathroom to find that Dash was already in the shower and the way she looked as the water raced off of her muscular body, and cascaded off of her spread wings was making her heart pound.
Why am I getting all flustered over seeing her in the shower, I mean I’ve seen other ponies in the shower before after all.
As she continued to watch Dash wash herself it was as if the Pegasus has no care in the world as the hot water relaxed her muscles in her neck and wings which were quite toned even for a Pegasus, and suddenly she threw her long rainbow mane back splashing Fluttershy with the soapy water causing her to scream out which alerted Dash to her presence.
“Planning on jumping me in the shower while my guard was down, or did you just feel the need for a good stare, yeah I know I’m sexy with my clothes off, but do us both a favor and knock next time, after all you need to remember I’m not on the same side of the fence as you are Fluttershy.” Snarled Dash without even turning around to look at her. “Now then I need to get to class, lock up before you leave would ya,” She then turned and walked out the door.
Fluttershy sat down in her first class of the day only having been a little late which didn’t seem like much of a big deal as Professor Beauty Brass simply pointed Fluttershy to a empty seat in the classroom and continued as if nothing had happened.
“Now then as I was saying My name is Professor Brass and I am you classical music 101 instructor, the semester we’ll be focusing on some of Maresart more obscure compositions and why they never did as well as his other pieces, now as it’s our first day I would like you all to introduce yourself to the class as I already know most of you, but it never hurts to know who you’ll be studying with.
And so it went on for the first half hour of the class, all the ponies standing and telling the room about themselves though the only ponies that really caught Fluttershy’s attention were a gray coated mare named Octavia and the pony who Dash had been talking about yesterday Pinkie Pie’s Roommate Applejack who was an earth pony with an orange coat.
“So you're the new girl that Pinkie’s been yammerin bout all night long.” Said Applejack approaching Fluttershy after class had ended and both of them were heading to the library for one of their free periods to look up some of the names that Professor Brass had mentioned in class.
“Yes, I’m sorry that she kept you up, I didn’t mean my talking to her to inconvenience anypony,” Replied Fluttershy a little timidly as she wasn’t sure what kind of attitude to expect from Applejack; as far as she knew she was as mean as Rainbow Dash, and she didn’t want to have to deal with being picked on again.
“Ah shoot, don’t worry bout it none, Ah’m used to Pinkie’s constant chatter by now having lived with her for a while now.” Smiled Applejack patting Fluttershy on the back which made her jump a little.” By the way Ah’m hoping Dash wasn’t too rough with ya last night, she’s gotta lot on her mind right now and being how she feels about fillyfoolin and all...” Began Applejack before she noticed the look on Fluttershy face.
“Ah’m missing something here aren’t I, ya’re inta mares aren’t ya?” She asked her southern drawl becoming more noticeable as she stopped focusing on sounding like she didn’t have an accent.
“Not partially, no,” Replied Fluttershy looking down at her book and sighing.
“Ah shoot, Ah’m sorry. I just looked at ya that day and figured the way ya all were walking and stuff... But Ah’m sorry I need to learn to keep my assumptions to mahself; now Dash probably beat up on ya for no reason,” Sighed Applejack patting Fluttershy on the shoulder again
“No, I kinda flew off the handle myself a bit, so whatever I got for whatever I said I must have deserved it.” Said Fluttershy dejectedly causing Applejack to look up again from her book and sigh.
“Nah, I can see the bruises Hun, whatever ya all said wasn’t worth Dash putting her hoof through ya throat, she needs to learn to control that temper of her if she plans on being able to stay here long.
“She’s not from around here?” Asked Fluttershy surprised
“Nah she’s up from the northern parts of Equestria, but she came down here because of certain things that Ah’m gonna let her tell ya bout if she ever wants ta, but she’s been hurt a lot ah can tell ya that and because of it she’s mighty cold with new ponies. Explained Applejack before a Lavender coated Unicorn came over to them a sat down next to Applejack
“A.J what have I told you about talking at a normal tone in the library, your voice carries and I could hear the conversation you were having with this young lady all the way across the room,” Snapped the Unicorn as she turned to Fluttershy which caused her to flinch.
“You don’t need to be afraid Hun, My name’s Twilight Sparkle and I’m the T.A for the librarian here while I’m studying magical arts and literature with Professor/Princess Celestia,” Explained Twilight as she lifted a hoof for Fluttershy to take but she didn’t.
“Sorry bout that Twi, I guess I just always forget,” Sighed Applejack as she stood up and put her books back “But anyway we needed to be gettin going Fluttershy unless you have another free period now.” Smiled Applejack as she helped Fluttershy put her books away and left the library
“So Fluttershy what classes are you taking?” Asked Twilight once Fluttershy had checked her schedule and found that she did indeed have one more free period before she had to go to Animal studies 101 for her next class and she smiled.
“Classical Music 101, Animal studies 101, and theater 101.” She replied and sat back down at the table where Twilight had lead her so that she could continue on the work that she had been interrupted from before.
“Oh so you want to be a?” Asked Twilight leaving the question open as she didn’t quite understand what Fluttershy wanted with such a varying class list.
“My special talent is talking to and taking care of animals, so I’m thinking I want to be a vet someday, but I’m interested in the theater and classical music which is so relaxing that I decide to that all three.” Smiled Fluttershy who was slowly beginning to warm up to Twilight.
“Well I hope it all works out for you,” She Smiled and turned back to her laptop to type.

“Hey I figured we’d see each other again!” Smiled Neon as Professor Star paired the two of them together to practice skits.
“Yes, you’re Neon Shadow if I’m not mistaking.” Smiled Fluttershy remembering the black coated Pegasus from yesterday.
“Yep, boy what happened to you though, did Rainbow Dash rough you up?” Asked Neon scowling, as he wasn’t a fan of the way Rainbow Dash acted towards some people.
“Yes, but it’s alright I kinda egged it on, so anyways what did you want to do together?” Asked Fluttershy looking through the list of plays they were able to choose from
“How about A midsummer night’s dream,” Smiled Neon before he struck a pose and smiled as he said one of the lines Puck uses to describe the Athenians “Lord, what fools these mortals be!” which got a laugh out of Fluttershy.
The class passed swiftly by as Fluttershy and Neon practiced more and more of the scenes from A Midsummer night’s dream and before they knew it Professor Star announced the end of class and the homework that they were assigned which was to study the lines of the play they had chosen and do some research on it’s background and history.

“So did you get too much homework?” Laughed Twilight as she ran into Fluttershy on the way back from her dorm as the path to the Princess Platinum building intercrossed through the path to the Commander Hurricane building.
“Not too much I guess,” Smiled Fluttershy as she walked along side of Twilight.
“Well then if you’re not too busy this evening how about you come to the student union building and you can meet the rest of us girls who make up our group,” Smiled Twilight as she dropped Fluttershy in front of the doors to her building.
“Sure, what time?” Asked Fluttershy lightly
“How about seven, does that work for you Fluttershy?” Asked Twilight beginning to turn around.
“Sure seven it is,” Smiled Fluttershy as she watched Twilight walk away her head now buzzing with excitement and a little bit of fear as she now looked forward to meeting the rest of this strange group of amusing sophomores.

Fluttershy stepped into the shower and turned the hot water on letting it wash over her wings and mane as she used the Pegasus friendly loofah to run the body wash up and down her body watching as the clear water quickly turned soapy and grayish.
I wonder what they’re going to be like, Thought Fluttershy as she continued to get ready for her meeting with the other six ponies that made up Applejack and Twilight’s group, hopefully they’ll like me, she sighed as she turned off the water and got dressed in the sweats the College had given her to wear outside of her classes.

Fluttershy entered the student union building and immediately found the group of Ponies that Twilight had been talking about, it was hard to miss Applejack’s large Stetson hat, but to miss the vibrant Blue and Electric blue of the mane of one of the unicorns in the group would have been impossible.
“Hey you showed up!” Cheered Pinkie as soon as she saw Fluttershy quickly running over to the Yellow Pegasus and hugging her which caused Fluttershy to panic.
“Ok, Ok Pinks. Give the mare some room ta breathe.” Sighed Applejack pulling Pinkie away from Fluttershy and shrugging her shoulders.
“So this is Rainbow Dash’s new roommate, you are quite pretty I’d love the chance to make some clothes for you so you don’t have to wear those ghastly school sweats, but where are my manners, My name is Rarity,” Smiled one of the two white unicorns in the group but unlike the other one her hair was well kept and a lovely violet color.
“They call me Vinyl Scratch, and this as you would already know since you share Classical music class together is Octavia.” Smirked Vinyl before she smacked Octavia on the flank.
“Vinyl, this is not the time nor the place!” Screamed Octavia horrified
“Still not going to say sorry, after all I can’t help it if you’ve got such a sexy flank,” Replied Vinyl her mouth in a crooked smile.
“Pervert,” Hissed Octavia as she walked forward out of reach of Vinyl's hoofs.
“Those two are always so funny to watch, I’m Lyra by the way, and I’m in classical as well but in the advance classes.” Smiled Lyra shaking Fluttershy’s hoof and smirking at Octavia who was annoyed at Lyra’s bragging.
“I’m Bon Bon, I’m in culinary arts and it’s so nice to meet you," Grinned Bon bon a light tannish coated earth pony with a blue and pink mane.
“And of course you already know Myself, Pinkie pie and Applejack,” Smiled Twilight as she walked forward and waved at the group.
“So do you want to know what we all have in common?” Smiled Twilight before continuing “ we’re all together Lyra’s with Bon Bon, Octavia’s is obviously with Vinyl, Rarity’s with me, and A.J with Pinkie,” Explained Twilight as each as their names were called save for the exception of Octavia and Scratch because Octavia still was fuming about Scratch’s inappropriate move from earlier hugging their marefriend.
“So wait you’re all, but Rainbow Dash, and A.J are...” Stuttered Fluttershy before Applejack smiled and said “Well yes we’re friends, but as I said there are things bout Dash that I’m going to let you two talk bout okay, just know she’s not always everything she tries to be,”
“Ugh Rainbow Dash is just a bitch, If I were you Flutters I’d ditch being her roommate faster than you could drop a hot potato,” Spat Vinyl as she glared out the window in the direction of the Commander Hurricane building; her vivid red eyes only making the gesture that much more frightening. “But anyways I’m glad you decided to come, Octavia did say you seemed like a nice pony even though you don’t talk much,” She smiled as she lightly punched Fluttershy in the shoulder.
“Well anyways it is getting late, so shall we take this to my dorm room?” Asked Rarity as she pointed at the large clock in the center of the wall above the door showing that an hour had already past, and as the union building closed at 8:30 they would have to be going soon anyways.

The conversation kept to the same basic lines all the way to Rarity’s dorm, Fluttershy learnt that most of them had grown up together, Vinyl and Rarity brought closer to Applejack and Pinkie when Rarity and Twilight’s peculiar relationship began at the end of last year. “Oh, by the way Fluttershy,” said Rarity as she grabbed hold of the door handle with her magic, “I’ll warn you in advance about my roommate.” Fluttershy raised an eyebrow. “He’s a great guy, he’s just…”
“NEON SHADOW GET YOUR STUFF OFF OF MY BED!” Snapped Rarity as she noticed Neon’s uniform plus a ton of his other clothes all over both bunks in the room.
“Opps, Sorry Rares just needed to find something and I guess once I found it I just didn’t have the energy left to clean up. Hey what do ya know it’s Fluttershy,” Smiled Neon as he hopped off his bunk and started to clean up the clothes mess.
“Oh you two have already met each other.” Replied Rarity looking at Fluttershy and smiling.
“Well yes, I mean we met at the new student meeting and then we have theater together, but if you we’re there, how are you?”
“A Sophomore, well I kinda missed that whole thing last year because of a little break, but because I did the orientation for the students with mental handicaps or other problems I was able to attend last year, and as for Theater 101 being a freshman course well I kinda failed last year.” Sighed Neon obviously put out.
“Hey, it happens hun, it doesn’t mean anything. We all still think you’re an amazing actor.” Said Rarity hugging Neon stroking his mane because she knew it calmed him down.
“Thanks Rares, I don’t know what I’d do without friends like you,” Sighed Neon still a little depressed.
“Well don’t think that way okay, we’re here and we’re not going anywhere; now don’t make me have to lock up all the kitchen knives again,” Said Rarity seriously looking at Neon, as they all had (save for Fluttershy) been friends for a while they all knew about Neon’s habit of cutting himself when he got depressed or let the voices get to him too much.
“Anyways we didn’t come here to be all mopey, we came to hang out,” Cheered Pinkie as she turned on the T.V and the ten of them all sat and watched a sitcom that happened to be on.

Fluttershy and the others soon said goodbye to Rarity and Neon and began to head back to their own dorm rooms and much quickly then she would have like Fluttershy reached her and Rainbow Dash’s room, but knowing that it’d be kinda stupid to just stand outside, she turned the doorknob and entered into their living room.
“So did you have fun with the fillyfoolers and that screwball?” Smirked Dash as Fluttershy entered the room and sat down on the couch.
“Yeah, it was okay.” Smiled Fluttershy remembering what A.J had said and that she was just acting mean to keep Fluttershy away.
“Well I’m going to bed, I’ve got class early again, and so keep it down okay,” Sighed Dash annoyed that she didn’t get the reaction that she had wanted.
“Okay Goodnight Dash.” Smiled Fluttershy as the door closed with a snap.

“What have I gotten myself into?” Asked Fluttershy to her reflection as she brushed her mane, in just two short days she had gone from having nopony besides her family to having a bunch of friends who were gay and a roommate who apparently for reasons unknown assumed her to be gay as well and hated her for it, even though one of the girl’s she was hanging out with now was said roommate’s best friend.
“Hey, You gonna spend all day in that bathroom, other ponies need to use it ya know.” Called out Dash knocking on the door.
“Sorry be out in a minute.” Replied Fluttershy finishing up and putting her brush back inside her side of the medicine cabinet.
Fluttershy opened the door and saw Dash was sneering at her. “Getting all dolled up for a date with one of your marefriends.”
“Nope just cleanliness is next to godliness, as they say.” Sighed Fluttershy
“Wow you’re just as prissy as that Rarity mare that rooms with that crazy pony,” Dash scoffed
“Neon happens to be a very nice pony, if you’d give him a chance,” Rebuked Fluttershy spinning around on her heel to face Rainbow Dash having been about to open the door.
“Yeah, okay not going to though, he hangs around with those fillyfoolers all the time, hell rumors around campus say he’s a whorse, and will do anyone mare or stallion who will bother with him,”
“A.J’s gay why do you hang out with her still then,” Replied Fluttershy starting to get annoyed with Dash’s bashing of her friends; however before she could open the door she found herself flying across the room , laying into a dresser smashing it.
“I thought I told you not to talk about things you don’t fucking know about, you stupid fillyfooling bitch.” Screamed Dash as she stood from where she had thrown Fluttershy.
“Hurts to hear the truth don’t it,” She hissed as she nursed her wing and stood up.
“Just because things were all sunshine and daisies back in fragmented fairy-land or wherever the hell you came from, doesn’t mean my life is that PERFECT!” Fluttershy jumped as Dash seized her by the throat, smacking her head against the wall. “And the next time you pry around in my past,” she said dangerously, “you’ll end up like that dresser.” Dash then proceeded to clean up the shards of wood and glass that were around the room, and soon she sighed and quickly scooped up a gold picture frame putting it into her bag, Fluttershy watched as Dash quickly wiped away the tears as she continued.
“If you want I’ll help, also since that picture seems like it’s important to you there’s a repair shop just off campus, that is if you didn’t know about it already,” Said Fluttershy as she began to pick up some of the larger bits of glass.
“I’ll do it, go get your wing looked at by Nurse Redheart, and nah it was just a piece of junk frame, I’ll get another,” Sighed Dash throwing away what she had picked up and holding her hoof out for what Fluttershy had.
“But you were crying when you seen it had broken,” Replied Fluttershy the cyan Pegasus didn’t answer.

It was all Fluttershy could do to stop her head exploding as she walked across the dark courtyard to where Applejack and the others had told her to meet them. My heads gonna explode, why’s she gotta be so hard to figure out? Fluttershy sighed as she propped herself against the building of Princess Platinum's building. She’s such a moody bitch and then all of a sudden she’s… “I don’t know; why’d I have to get stuck with a mentally unstable homophobe as a roommate?” She asked herself aloud.
“Maybe you just have all the luck.” Fluttershy turned to see the familiar blonde-maned earth pony coming out of the building, followed by the others.
“Heh, yeah, luck; whatever that means…” Octavia smiled at her as she walked towards her.
“Rainbow had a little something to say to me,” said Applejack with a curious look at Fluttershy, “She told me to keep you out of her business.” To which Fluttershy sneered.
“I’ll be just as happy to forget her as soon as she stops saying I’m fucking gay!”
“Yeah, well, enough about that, her little denial-fest isn’t gonna ruin my night,” said Octavia, and she noticed the dirty look on her marefriend’s face, and narrowed her eyes. “Filthy pervert…”
“What makes you think I was thinking anything dirty?” the dual toned maned mare insisted in an innocent voice.
“Feh, when are you not thinking something dirty?”
“Oh Octi, you know me so well.”
“Anyway, are we gonna get moving or do you want to wait here in the shadows for Miss Dash to come and axe-murder us?” Asked Rarity Neon rolled his eyes.
“Are you saying Rainbow’s gonna go psycho on us?” He asked. Rarity snorted.
“I wouldn’t put it past her.”
“Ignore Rarity, Flutters, she’s still sore that Rainbow used to – well beat her up a lot in High-school,” explained Pinkie, and Fluttershy smiled at the dopey expression on Rarity’s face.
“Yeah, holding a grudge against someone who used to spend her lunch hour hanging me up in the girl’s locker room for fun, I’m real petty like that.” Pinkie chuckled.
"She never did that."
"Well she threatened to!" Pinkie watched her, and Rarity sighed.
"Well...I may have over-elaborated on that but she's still an uncouth ruffian."

Dash sat on her bed looking at the shattered frame, the picture inside was undamaged but still the flame had been destroyed.

“So Fluttershy, ever been to a bar before? “Asked Twilight as they entered the establishment and the bouncer checked their I.D’s.
“Well, no I haven’t” The shy Pegasus smiled nervously as Vinyl went to get ready for her set and let them know she had arrived.
“Oh goody we get to see what she’s like drunk for the first time!” Smirked Lyra as Bonbon nodded.
“Now let’s just hang on a minute.” Said Twilight noticing where this was going “You don’t need to get her totally wasted just because she’s never drank before.
“Indeed we don’t know how she’ll react and a visit from the guards is the last thing we need.” Added Rarity with a sidelong glance at her marefriend; remembering the fiasco that had ensued from getting the purple mare as drunk as she could get short of passing out.
“Ah think Rares is right ya’ll let’s keep it within reason, kay?” Suggested Applejack before Pinkie jumped onto her back.
“Oh come on A.J, it’s her first time we did to show little Flutters how it feels when you drink until you can’t think straight. Hey you’ve gotta try my special super yummy pink lemonade vodka, I made the recipe myself and now it’s one of our best cocktails.” Giggled Pinkie as she hopped off to start her shift as well, Pinkie worked as a bartender at the campus bar
“Sometimes Ah wonder what Ah see in her….” Smiled Applejack as she straightened her hat and the rest of them followed Pinkie over to the bar.
“Hey guys, how have you been?” Asked Lotus as they sat down and Lotus came over to give them some snacks and find out what they were drinking. As it turned out Lotus and Aloe also worked around the campus as well while they finished their majors in massage therapy and the spa was in its slow season.
“A Blow job.” Smirked Lyra who wrapped her arms around Bonbon and pulled her into a kiss after the cream mare ordered a 7&7.
“Hard apple cider, right A.J” Guessed Lotus before Applejack could said anything and she nodded.
“Jura whiskey as usual.” Smiled Octavia as the intercom announced DJ Pon3 would soon be taking the stage and Octavia knew she’d need something strong to deal with her marefriends preferred brand of music.
“Twilight?” Asked Lotus smiling
“Apple martini.” Replied Twilight rubbing her hoof thought her mane, Lotus was the one who had served her on that occasion that Twilight had gotten so drunk that her other side made an appearance and started ranting about Magic Kindergarten
“Three Blue Hawaii.” Smiled Neon as Aloe came over to help her sister and glared at the black Pegasus.
“Did you skip your medication today, Neon?”
“Yeah, but we only do this once a month so it’s not all that big of a deal is it?” He sighed as she continued to stare daggers at him
“You really shouldn’t do that, but okay as long as it’s not too often, and don’t expect us to serve you if we know you’ve taken it, you know how I feel about people drinking while taking Medication.” Aloe then walked off to get the first few of the group’s orders
“Rarity.” Lotus nodded at the white Unicorn
“Sex on the beach.” She Replied
“And you Fluttershy.” Smiled Lotus giggling at the look of shock on the yellow Pegasus’s face at Lotus knowing her name.
“Ummm.” Fluttershy froze but Applejack answered for her
“Pinks wants her to try the Pinkie pie pink pink lemon bomb.”
“Oh” Lotus giggled “Looks like Pinkie’s trying to see if our little friend is just as shy once her inhibitions are gone, do you know just how many vodka’s she puts in that damn thing, it 170 proof, yet it’s so sweet you wouldn’t think so, okay girls, it’ll be a couple minutes.” She smiled then walked away
“170 proof!” Shrieked Rarity after Lotus had gone. “She’s not trying to get her drunk, she’s trying to kill her, I mean the only thing stronger than that is everclear moonshine!”
“Rares, Pinkie wouldn’t try an kill anypony, she’s just a little overzealous, but I’m kinda curious myself now, how about we just let the dominos fall and see what happens.
“Oh you…. You’re only saying that because she’s your marefriend!” Snapped Rarity “Do you not remember what happened last time we had a first timer in here- we had to call Princess Celestia just to calm Twilight down, and I don’t want that to happen again!”
“Rarity, I highly doubt Fluttershy has those kinds of demons” Said Octavia as she turned to face the two bickering ponies
“Well I guess all that’s left to do is wait and see.” Sighed Rarity as Aloe and Lotus delivered the drinks to each of them, and Rarity took a long sip off of her sex on the beach.

“Hey handsome you wanna see my cutie mark?” Giggled Fluttershy as she hung off of Big Macintosh’s yoke and the red Stallion politely refused helping her get back to his younger sister.
“Thanks Macintosh, What did you need?”
“Just wanted to give ya some of the zap apple jam granny made before it all ran out, it’s kinda lonely not havin ya on the farm A.J.” Said Mac as he handed A.J the jar and helped her return the obviously drunk Fluttershy to her seat.
“I’m sorry big bro, but ya know I gotta get this degree so I can be even better of a manager for Sweet Apple Acres.
“Ya I know, well you take care lil sis, and don’t you let her drink no more.” Smiled Mac as he patted Fluttershy on the wing and left the bar.

Surgery . Thought Fluttershy Rainbow’s having surgery?
“Sorry, what hospital was this again?” asked Fluttershy. The woman on the other end took a hesitant pause, as if she wasn’t prepared to answer. “It’s the one up Sunrise Road, the Intensive Care unit…”
It wasn’t a minute later when Fluttershy was speeding up the pavement, trying to find Rainbow. She’d run all the way to the hospital, and no sign of her, she had no idea how she was going to find her now. Taking the East Wing entrance to the Intensive care, a small, fair, sweet looking nurse stopped when she noticed her wandering, studying the directions on the wall.
“Can I help you?” she asked. She smiled awkwardly.
“Umm…I’m a friend of Mrs. Dash’s, she just-”
“-She comes here often, but, not so much lately, things had seemed to be getting better up until now.” Fluttershy gulped. What’s wrong with her? Is it really that bad?
“Can you tell me where she is?”
“Well I-”
“-Please, I’ve got to find her.” The girl smiled slightly.
“She’s in Ward K, Room 12.” She smiled.
“Thank you.”

The hospital was like a maze. A big white-washed, sterilized jungle, that’s what it is, thought Fluttershy as she counted door numbers 10, 11, then finally 12. Fluttershy looked to see Rainbow just walking in the room; thankfully she was far enough for the Pegasus not to notice her. Fluttershy rushed forwards and peeked through the door. Dash sat down on the chair beside the bed, leaning in to place a kiss on the unconscious patient’s forehead, softly brushing some of her mane from her face, and smiling slightly.
“Hey,” she said huskily, her voice coming out jagged and broken, “hey, baby, it’s me…” Fluttershy felt her heartache as Dash looked at the Mare’s hoof, and hesitantly placed her hoof over the other’s. “Sorry I haven’t come to see you for a few days, Spitfire’s been working me harder than ever and it’s exhausting,” Fluttershy listened at the door, not making her presence known. She didn’t know why she’d followed Dash here, she just had to know what she was hiding, perhaps it was wrong, but how could she help her if she didn’t know why she needed help.
“I had an argument with Applejack and Neon today,” she said, carrying on the conversation as if the mare were going to talk back, but of course she didn’t. “About Fluttershy, I told you about her right, my roommate?” the constant, steady beeping of the life support was all that sounded. “But it ended up being about us again…it always does…they don’t know…they can’t know – if they ever found out they’d…if they ever knew what happened to me, to you…” the rainbow-maned Pegasus broke off, and stared at the sheets for a moment, before speaking again. “I got a phone call today…the doctors say that…they say you’re not getting better…they say you’re only hope is this surgery this afternoon, and even then it’s…they say you’ve got a one in five chance of survival…”
Fluttershy’s eyes widened as she watched a single tear trickle down Rainbow’s cheek. “You have to pull through, you have too…I don’t care how unlikely they say it is…if you ever loved me you’ll do this…please. If you die, I’ll – how can I tell our friends how this happened – the way they’ll look at me…the things they’ll think of you, I…I couldn’t protect you before, and I’m sorry, but stop punishing me from running away…” For a moment, Rainbow rested her forehead against the unconscious mare’s hoof, not saying anything.
After a while, looking back to her, forcing up a smile. “I wanted to ask you some advice…about Fluttershy…” Fluttershy’s ears perked, about me?

Chapter 5
Behind the mask
“Excuse me?” Fluttershy turned to see a nurse behind her, probably curious as to why she was hovering outside a door. “Can I help you?” Fluttershy said nothing, but looking back into the room, to her horror, Rainbow had noticed her.
“Um, no I was just.” Fluttershy stood there trying to gather her thoughts as every part of her body screamed at her to run. The nurse sighed in frustration
“This patient is going into surgery soon, and it’s clearly posted that visiting hours at this point are for family only. I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” The Nurse pointed Toward the door waiting for her to move, that is until Rainbow Dash came up behind her- wrapping her hoof around Fluttershy’s shoulder.
“Make a scene and you’ll wish you’d never been born.” Hissed Rainbow Dash in her ear before looking up at the nurse and smiling. “It’s okay Pink heart, she’s with me I told her to come.” Rainbow then led Fluttershy back into the room- slamming the sliding glass door in Pink heart’s face.
“Enjoying the show are we?” Rainbow hissed venomously.
“No, I ju...”
“Shut the fuck up, I can’t believe this... How’d you even find this place? I made it quite clear to the hospital staff they weren’t to call me unless it was an emergency, and to talk to no one about this!” Rainbow was obviously livid; Fluttershy backed away from her as much as possible, but in the small hospital room it didn’t equate to much.
“So what’s going through that little mind of your now huh?” Rainbow laughed bitterly, a hollow empty laugh that held no mirth. “Going to get back at me for how I treated you- tell everypony how the baddest pegasus at UC it’s a big fat Fillyfooler?” Tears fell from Rainbow Dash face as she turned back to the bed that held the young comatose Cloudchaser and waited for Fluttershy’s response.
“ You really don’t understand the first thing about me do you, Rainbow Dash. I’m not that kind of mare.” Fluttershy sighed and slowly pulled one of the chair lined along to wall to set next to Rainbow Dash at the bedside.
“I don’t need or want your pity, if you going to do that you can just.”
“I’m not leaving Rainbow.” Said Fluttershy firmly, “How can I leave you like this,at a time like this.” Rainbow said nothing- too stressed to argue back.
“Who is she?” Asked Fluttershy as she look down at the young storm blue Pegasus with the spiky blue and cloud white hair.
“She’s.... An old friend; she was friends with Neon and A.J too.” Explained Rainbow lightly brushing her hoof through her mane, Fluttershy put her hoof on Rainbow’s shoulder.
“I get it, she was your marefriend, wasn’t she?” Rainbow took a deep breath and simply nodded her head, and Fluttershy knew that it had been the first time the cyan Pegasus had admitted it. Homophobic to the core, even when she is one.
“What the fuck is wrong with me!?!” Screamed Rainbow Dash slamming her face into her hoofs as she started sobbing openly. “Something happened to me, something bad, so I left Equestria- returned north to my home country, I couldn’t face my friends, least of all the mare I loved after that happened.
Well of course they got worried for me and started a search for me and during one of them Cloud got separated from Neon and A.J and ran into a group of Stallions, drunk I’d imagine. Well as you can see Cloudchaser is a very good looking Mare and so they started hitting on her, well while they struggled a picture of us fell out of her saddlebag when it fell off of her when they pushed her, and they seen she was a Fillyfooler, so they decide they’d teach her a lesson for being who she is and they beat her until she passed out... It’s all my fault, if only I was there. I could have saved her, should have saved her.” Dash’s voice began to give out for full out sobs.
“They made her like this Fluttershy, but she had a weak heart before that attack anyway and during she must of had, they say that the surgery today it the one hope for surviving she has, but it could kill her.” Fluttershy’s heart ached as she watched the tears flow down Dash’s face, she didn’t know what to say, but she knew that she had to say do anything to make Rainbow Dash feel better.
Hesitantly Fluttershy slipped her hoof onto Rainbow’s, and the younger mare looked at her

“I’m here…whatever happens, I’m right here…” Rainbow nodded, and the first, untainted smile shone at Fluttershy through the tears, and it made her heart feel a little lighter.
“I know…thank you…I just…” Fluttershy’s eyes widened as everything that she had known Rainbow Dash to be, crumbled before her very eyes, suddenly she wasn’t the tough-skinned, cold mare she’d made herself out to be, right now she seemed nothing more than a scared filly. “If she dies I don’t know what I’ll do…” Fluttershy got over the initial shock of Rainbow’s sudden weakness, rubbing her back softly.
“It’s okay, everything’s-”
“-I’m scared, Fluttershy…it feels like I’m slipping into some abyss, faster and faster, and I can’t see the bottom…I’m so lost…”
Fluttershy smiled, lifting the mare’s chin, dominant for once in her life and wiped Rainbow’s tears away, planting a soft kiss on the younger mare’s lips.
“What’re you doing?” asked Rainbow, as they broke apart for the necessity of air.”
Fluttershy smiled. “You won’t get hurt, okay?” Rainbow blushed slightly at the words, “I won’t let you fall…” Fluttershy flushed as Rainbow Dash pulled her back into a kiss that made butterflies flutter in her stomach. Is this love? Like my mother was talking about, a love that defies all laws of reason…that lifts you up so high…or maybe this is giving comfort to someone I care about…how am I supposed to know the difference between friendship, and love…?
“Miss Dash, It’s time.” Said one of the nurse’s pulling the two mares out of the daze.
“Okay.” Said Rainbow wishing she felt as strong as she sounded as the two Pegasi moved away from Cloudchaser’s bed and the nurse’s wheeled it away towards the Operating room.

Rainbow Dash wandered back out of the insane thunderstorm of thoughts she had been in for the last couple of hours, the quiet seemed to come as she looked down, seeing what had started her from her pensiveness- Fluttershy had dozed off, and was resting on her shoulder. Rainbow watched her as she twitched slightly, and Rainbow sighed, throwing one of the hospital’s spare blankets over her, before falling back into thoughtfulness. Why did I kiss her back? I can’t, I don’t love her. How could I? Cloudchaser is lying in there, she might be – No, don’t think that…but, I’m betraying her, just by thinking these things about Fluttershy, aren’t I? I’ve kissed her now and –
Rainbow leapt up as the doctor came through the doors, startling Fluttershy from her doze, whom, when she realised what was happening, stood up as well.
“Ms Dash?” asked the doctor, and Rainbow nodded slowly, taking deep breaths.
“Is…is she okay?” asked Rainbow, partially not wanting to know. If Cloudchaser wasn’t okay, this ignorance was bliss, and she could at this moment at least still have hope that she was alive, but once the words were said, there was no taking them back again. “Is Cloudchaser going to be alright?” Rainbow repeated. The doctor looked at both the mares before replying.
“Cloudchaser’s condition,” the stallion said heavily, “was worse than we’d first thought.” Rainbow said nothing, and Fluttershy suddenly felt awkward for being here, as if she were intruding on Rainbow’s grief, I shouldn’t be here, she thought as the doctor took in a deep breath, it should be Neon, or A.J, or someone that knows Rainbow, someone that she cares about…not me…
“Her heart was too weak to withstand the surgery…” Rainbow looked at the stallion with fear mingled with something Fluttershy couldn’t put his finger on in those magenta orbs.
“She’s…dead?” asked Rainbow huskily. The doctor shook his head, and both Rainbow and Fluttershy’s hearts lifted for a moment, only to have themselves crushed moments after.
“Not yet…but, it won’t be long now…if you…want to say your goodbyes, now would be the time…” Rainbow looked down for a moment, lingering deep in misery as well as thought. The doctor placed his hands on the mare’s shoulders, and Rainbow looked up at him. “But, the good news, or bad news, which ever way you take it, is that, she is awake.”
Rainbow’s eyes widened and she swallowed hard as the doctor lead both her and Fluttershy through to a different room.
"But, why would her being awake possibly be bad news?" asked Fluttershy quietly as the doctor left them at the door. Rainbow didn't look at her as she replied.
"If she's awake...she'll be aware of the pain..."
"Oh..." muttered Fluttershy, feeling stupid and insensitive. Rainbow stopped at the door, not advancing any further, and Flutter looked at her in confusion.
“Rainbow, what’s wrong?” she asked. Rainbow bit her lower lip slightly.
“I - I don’t know what to say to her…how can I speak to her now…I’ll fall apart…”
“Rainbow-”
“-I can’t Fluttershy, I just-”
“-Listen to me!” she ordered, grabbing the taller mare by the shoulders. “The pony you love is going to die, and if you don’t go and say goodbye there isn’t a day that will go by that you won’t wish that you would have taken the chance to tell her you love her one last time…This is that chance, Rainbow,” the rainbow maned mare looked at her for a moment, as if seeing her in a new light. She wasn’t some shy, whiny brat anymore; she seemed so much more older, and so different. “And if you throw that chance away now, you’ll never forgive yourself…” Rainbow nodded.
“You’re right, of course you’re right…thanks…” inhaling deeply, the mare walked forwards, and stood at the side of the bed, Fluttershy still hovering in the doorway, unseen by the hospitalized mare as she opened her eyes and turned her head as Rainbow stroked the bangs off her sweat-covered forehead.
“Rainbow?”
“Yeah, who else would it be?” replied the older mare, her voice a lot stronger than before.
“You’ve come to see me nearly everyday…they told me so…” Rainbow smiled slightly looking down as the smaller mare’s hoof slipped into her’s. “I could hear your voice…” Rainbow smiled again.
“Really? You poor thing.” The small mare smiled, and Fluttershy felt a small ping in her heart as she watched this scene. This is awful, how can this be right? The way it was described …love isn't supposed to be like this - is it? What can be so good about this feeling if it tears ponies apart like this?
“You are doing well, in the sky?” Rainbow nodded, her eyes turning glassy.
“I chucked Thunderlane though - stuffy prick,” she joked, and that same bright smile returned to the sick mare’s face.
“A.J and Neon miss you,” said Rainbow, and Cloudchaser nodded, “A.J’s still bullying that loon Pinkie into bed with her, and Neon’s sleeping with all sorts of ponies.”
“Heh, Neon what are we going to do with you,” she replied, and Rainbow smiled, following the path of Cloudchaser’s eyes as she looked towards the door. “And you…are you Fluttershy?”
Fluttershy’s eyes widened, obviously her part was one of the occasions Cloudchaser had actually heard Rainbow speak.
“Umm, yeah,” said Fluttershy nervously, stepping closer as Rainbow signaled her to do so, the pink-maned mare looking awkward, staring at the floor.
“She’s a beauty Rainbow, no wonder you kissed her,” she said. Both Rainbow and Fluttershy looked at the mare in confusion and slight fear, how can she say something like that? Fluttershy’s thoughts practically screamed, she’s Rainbow’s marefriend and she’s egging her on while she comes onto me!
“Cloudchaser, I-”
“-Wait Rainbow, there’s…not a lot of time left so…”
“Cloudchaser?” she asked as the mare’s voice seemed to falter.
“It wasn’t your fault, Rainbow-”
“-How can you say that, this happened because-” a soft squeeze of her hoof silence her.
“Don’t spend the rest of your life blaming yourself and distancing yourself from the people that care about you…” Rainbow said nothing. “Promise me, you’ll look after Neon, and A.J, and don’t let anything get in the way of your friendship anymore?” Rainbow nodded slightly, not being able to force up words. “Your next performance is coming up soon, isn’t it?” Rainbow nodded. “You’ll do your best right, for me?” Rainbow nodded, biting back tears. “And you’ll be happy?” Rainbow took a moment, before nodding again in reply. "Promise?"
"I promise..." Rainbow choked.
Slowly, Cloudchaser turned to look at Fluttershy, who was still standing at the end of the bed. “You’ll take care of Rainbow, won’t you?” Fluttershy looked a little taken aback, but smiled and nodded all the same, she found it odd how both she and Rainbow seemed incapable of speech.
“You’re a good person…I know you won’t break her heart…” Rainbow looked at Cloudchaser, almost angry.
“Cloudchaser-”
“-Rainbow…I…never stopped…loving you, you know that…right?” Rainbow looked down at her, placing a soft kiss on his lips.
Fluttershy jumped as somepony pushed past her into the room, and Rainbow broke away from Cloudchaser as three people, (obviously her parents and twin sister) made their way to her side. Fluttershy watched as the frantic ponies fussed around the mare, and Rainbow walked slowly out of the room - the pink-maned mare took that as her cue to leave.
“Rainbow! Rainbow, wait!” called Fluttershy as Rainbow continued to walk along the pavement. Fluttershy caught up to her, slightly out of breath. “Rainbow, wait! Why did you just leave like that?”
“I’ve done all that I can, she has to be with her family now…” muttered Rainbow distantly, clearly still in a world of her own.
“Why didn’t you stop to talk to them, they might have wanted to speak to you?” Rainbow stopped snapping out of his pensive state.
“Oh, yeah, that would have gone down well. On Cloudchaser’s deathbed - ‘by the way did you know your daughter was a fillyfooler, no?! Well I’m her fucking gay lover, nice to meet you!’” As the Rainbow-maned mare continued to walk, Fluttershy fought to keep the pace with her, but it seemed Rainbow was determined to make it hard for her. Maybe Fluttershy should leave her alone, to sort herself out for a little while, that’s what she’d need, but she knew Rainbow wasn’t stable enough to be trusted on her own - she’d go and do something stupid, I know she would…
“I’m sorry, I know I’m crowding you,” said Fluttershy as she followed Rainbow into their dorm room a few minutes later, closing the door behind her. “But believe it or not I care about you, and I can’t leave you alone when I know you’re bound to do something stupid.” Rainbow sat on the edge of her bed, head in her hoofs.
“Get away from me…you meddling bitch can’t you see this is nothing to do with you…?”
“I know it hasn’t, but if you push the people who are involved away that care, I’m all that’s left.” No reply, she didn’t even look up at her when she spoke. “Rainbow, please,” she said softly, kneeling down in front of her and patting her knee softly, “just-”
“-Get off me!” Rainbow shouted, smacking Fluttershy across the face and sending her slamming into the floor. “Don’t touch me you fucking queer prick!” Fluttershy flinched as she sat up; holding her face, blood trickling out of her mouth. “Stop hovering round me wearing that look and touching me all the fucking time! Wake up, Princess; I’m not fucking into you! Why would I want to touch you? You whining, interfering bitch, just keep the fuck away from me!”
Fluttershy’s eyes glistened with the fresh tears, hurt in those aqua eyes as she looked up at Rainbow, who seemed to calm down. “Fluttershy, I’m sorry, I-”
“-Get away from me,” the smaller mare warned, getting unstably to her feet. The pink-maned mare looked at her furiously, wiping the blood from her mouth.
“Fluttershy, I-”
“-Save it, I’m tired of you, all I try to do is help you and what do I get for it- punched in the face, just stay away from me you locked in the closet bitch!” Fluttershy hissed, getting into bed and turning her lamp off. Rainbow watched the back of her as she tried to go to sleep herself, finding it impossible. I’ve done it now, she thought as she heard quiet sobs come from Fluttershy’s bed, she’s never going to speak to me again…
Within the hour Fluttershy’s sobs had slowly turned into deep breathing, signalling that she’d fallen asleep, Rainbow however was not so lucky. Thoughts were jumbled in her head, colliding with each other, making it impossible to calm her mind and go to sleep. Thoughts of Cloudchaser, thoughts of Fluttershy, of A.J and Neon, of her career, of college courses, everything seemed to be lending a hand in keeping her awake.
She turned to look at the clock on his bedside table. "3:48 a.m?!" Rainbow sighed, resting her head back on the pillow.
“What am I gonna do?” She asked herself aloud. “I promised Cloudchaser I would do well in this upcoming competition, but with Thunderlane gone I can’t even enter.” She grumbled with annoyance, she just wanted to sleep. She’d had a long, miserable, and all in all the worst day of her life.
Between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. she’d had her turn in crying, then convincing herself she had to stop being so soft and think of how to fix the mess she’d made of her life. Spitfire will help me beg Thunderlane to come back, she always does, she thought. Closing her eyes, she heard the wind outside pick up and whistle as it flew past the open window, the beginnings of a storm rolling overhead.
Ironically she’d just fallen asleep as the storm started to pick up, thunder rumbling and moments later, a white flash of lightning, that didn’t stir the Rainbow-maned mare from her sleep. However, it soon woke the mare in the bed beside her.
Fluttershy jumped as the lightning flashed outside. Looking over to the clock she saw that it was off, the electricity tripped out by the storm, the curtains billowing in the harsh wind blowing through the open window, Fluttershy hastily tiptoed over to it. Just her luck was that it was this damn window that was left open, she could never close it, and she hated when she had to give up and ask Rainbow to close it for her. With great difficulty Fluttershy put her weight on the window, forcing it to slide down, and closed.
For once in her life closing the curtains, she rushed back over to her bed, sitting with her lower hoofs drawn up to her chest, the covers wrapped tightly round her in the way a foal would when they have a bad dream. Pull yourself together Fluttershy, she thought, looking around her at the all of a sudden creepy darkness, Rainbow would never let you live it down if she woke up and found you worrying in the dark like a little foal, afraid of a bit of a storm.
She jumped again as thunder rolled overhead, two seconds later the lightning flashing, illuminating the dark room, making Fluttershy reach desperately for her bedside lamp. However she quickly remembered after a few more failed attempts at switching it on that there was no electricity. Come on Fluttershy, pull yourself together - She squeaked loudly with fear as the thunder came again, lightning flashing almost directly out the back of the building.
Looking over to Rainbow, she noticed that she was still asleep, the storm not bothering her in the slightest. If she wakes up and sees me like this she’ll - “Ah!” she squealed, as the thunder and lightning repeated.
Rainbow frowned as she felt something poking her in the shoulder, turning; she saw Fluttershy silhouetted at her side as the lightning flashed once more, noticing the older mare flinch.
“What the fuck?” she mumbled, grumpy, only having fallen asleep around fifteen minutes ago.
“Can I sleep with you tonight?” asked Fluttershy pathetically. Rainbow sneered.
“What?”
“I don’t like thunder…and there’s no electricity…” she whimpered pitifully.
“Do you have any idea what time it is?”
“Rainbow, please? I... I’m really scared.”
“Piss off you wimp, I’ve got to do a lot practice tomorrow so why don’t you get back over to your own bed and get over your fucking phobia on your own!” she growled turning back over, “grow up…you big foal…”
Fluttershy turned away miserably. Leaping out of her skin and yelping slightly when another flash of lightning crashed outside their window, and Rainbow’s hoof snatched at her wrist, yanking her into the bed with her.
“Rainbow?”
“I don’t have time for games…but if you’ll forgive me for earlier, you can sleep here tonight,” muttered Rainbow. Fluttershy looked at her with glistening eyes and nodded.
“Thank you so much, Rainbow…” said Fluttershy as Rainbow shared the duvet a little more fairly.
The older Mare’s eyes snapped open with surprise as she felt Fluttershy nuzzling slightly into her chest as the storm seemed to worsen.
“You really are scared of thunder aren’t you?” asked Rainbow with disbelief. Fluttershy avoided her eyes, wearing a foalish look.
“…and lightning…” she added pitiably, making the other mare smile.
An awkward silence, the kind they both knew too well fell over them, both making a point of keeping their hoofs to themselves, but Fluttershy’s head resting on Rainbow’s shoulder, so that her breath tickled the younger mare’s chin.
“Fluttershy?” she asked quietly, not sure if the mare was still awake or not.
“Yeah?”
“Tomorrow, will you - never mind.”
“What is it?” asked Fluttershy sitting herself up to look at the other mare’s face.
“I just…tomorrow…when I go back into the sky again, it’ll be the first time since…” Fluttershy understood, and nodded slightly, flinching as the lightning struck, though a little further off this time. “Will you…fly out with me…for the first time? I just don’t feel very-”
“-Of course, if that’s something I can do to make you feel better,” said Fluttershy and Rainbow smiled again.
“Thanks.”
“Of course, plus it gives me a chance to find out what you’ve been doing all of the times that you’ve been gone when I’ve gotten up, or when I've got back from class.” Fluttershy smiled as she cuddled back into Rainbow Dash’s chest.
Fluttershy didn’t even respond when the next sound of thunder or flash of lightning lit the room, already dozing back off next to Rainbow, and the other mare not far behind. Finding it easier to sleep all of a sudden, as Rainbow shifted in her sleep, pressing closer against the other mare’s body, so that Rainbow could feel her heartbeat against her chest. I shouldn't be able to feel this contented so soon...but Cloudchaser, is this… she closed her eyes, allowing sleep to take her, the smaller frame spooned against her, her heartbeat the lullaby, soothing her racing mind and heavy heart, is this what it’s like…to be happy?
