A Hooves-Down Better Day
Chapter 1
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Come on Copper! We're going to be late for school!" I said, bouncing around crazily. It was the first day of school for me in Equestria, and it was going to be my very first chance to make some new friends around my age. My turtle, Gavin, scoots up beside me, hearing my voice and begging for attention. I chortle softly, and pat his adorable little head with my hoof. I turn my head to see if my sister had gotten ready yet, only to be greeted by a gruff mewling from her cat, Agustin. Life at the Moon house always seemed to be hectic, or at least to me. I'd only just gotten here from the portal in which I fled my old life in hopes for a new, improved life here.
It was very strange to me to think of her as my sister, and her parents as my parents, since it was so radically different than what I'd had in my dimension. Yet, when I arrived here, they treated me as if they'd reared me in this very simple house, as if I were blood relatives to them. At first, I didn't really understand quite what was going on, but I quickly learned to accept it because it was the first place I belonged.
I was snapped out of my reverie when Copper finally trotted over to greet me, her pale blue eyes sparkling mischievously. "I'm coming, I'm coming! Geez, don't get your mane in a bunch!" she retorted, grabbing her saddlebags. I joined her, levitating mine onto my back. Smiling, we exited the house, plotting slowly down the cobblestone road to Saint Mare's High. We chatted about things, like colts and a Pegasus by the name of Apollo-San. He sounded awfully like her colt-friend, and I teased her, jabbing lightly at her side with my horn. "Hey, that hurts you know!" she giggled, poking me with a hoof. I laughed, sticking my tongue out, and moving out of the range of her hooves. I cherished simple moments like this, when I could pretend that I'd lived here all my life.
When we got to Saint Mare's, I was awash with terror. I had no idea what a high school would be like here, and I rather hoped that I'd have a similar schedule to Copper, but alas, we'd received our schedules, and I had only one class with her in our second semester. I was on my own.The bell rang, and I mustered up every bit of courage I had, and walked nervously into my social class. Our teacher seemed to be rather eccentric,he had his hair sticking out everywhere, and his glasses were too large for his face. He was wearing a green sweater vest. When he introduced himself to us, it sounded a lot like he said his name was "Pickles", and if that was the case, then I feel absolutely horrible for him. I sat myself in a desk closest to the door should the need to bolt arise. The first period went rather normally, however, except I found a certain colt to be very intimidating. He was a navy blue unicorn with a lime green mane and green eyes. He gave off the vibe that he was constantly angry, which really put me off. He had sat in the row right from me, and two ponies up. Far enough away that I could avoid him. Good.
The rest of my day went without a hitch, and I eagerly met up with my sister, itching to hear how her first day of classes went. The two of us began to walk to band as she described her day. "Oh Lav, you'll love this! I met the nicest Pegasus in my social studies class. His name is Headwind, and he's snow white, with a blue mane. Oh, and he doesn't have his cutie mark!" My ears pricked at the mention of a cutie mark, and I blushed awkwardly, trying to hide my blank flank with my tail. It was awful enough being new, but even worse when I knew that most of the other ponies would have their cutie marks. I didn't quite know what I was "meant to be", and honestly, didn't quite believe in destiny.
