To Kill A Goddess

Her True Destiny

Twilight looked around the room, her wings fluttering nervously as she waited for the princesses to arrive. They had summoned her here from Ponyville several weeks after her coronation, telling her to come alone but to bring her crown with and the other elements with her, which she knew meant something big was going down.

She heard the door open, and turned to see Princess Celestia and Luna walking into the room, Twilight getting up and heading over to Celestia to give her a hug. “It’s good to see you,” said the princess, letting her go and then moving with her to sit down on the couch, Luna and Twilight joining her as she looked at the young alicorn.

“Twilight, I know you are probably wondering what it is we called you here for, but first I need to ask, did you bring the elements?”

Twilight nodded, summoning her saddlebags and opening them, revealing the elements inside and causing the princess to sigh in relief. “Good, then I think it is time to tell you why we made you into an alicorn.”

This sent of a weird alarm inside Twilight’s head, but she quickly shut it up, knowing that if the princess had had something from her, it had been for good reason.

“You see Twilight, there are many reasons we wanted you to become an alicorn. One of course was due to the fact that with Princess Cadance ruling over the Crystal Empire, we needed another who could take over her work as the royal diplomat, and you were the best choice to take over that position. The second was that you were the most deserving of all the ponies we have ever known, and have proven this with both your life and your magical potential. But…there is a third reason we needed you to become and alicorn.”

Twilight looked surprised at this change in definition, for originally it had been reason to want her to become an alicorn, not need. “And…and what was that third reason princess,” asked Twilight, fearing the answer as she asked.

Celestia looked extremely hesitant to answer so finally it was Luna who spoke. “Twilight, do you know the legend of…of The Black Sun?”

Twilight slowly nodded, swallowing as she opened her mouth to speak. “Ye…yes, the legend states that your mother, the great Six Winged Seraph Faust came into contact with a black nothingness called the Abyss, which latched onto her and slowly began to corrupt her. Knowing her world would not be able to withstand a being of her power corrupted so; she cast herself into the only thing that could kill her, the sun turning black for a day, which signaled the destruction of the once noble goddess.”

The princesses nodded, a tear falling down Luna’s cheek as she spoke. “Sadly the legend is only half true, but like the Nightmare, we were forced to distort the truth, in order to make sure that ponies didn’t try and…and concur the legend.”

“Wait, you mean to tell me Faust is alive?”

“Very much alive,” said Celestia, “and fully corrupted by the darkness of the abyss, which is beyond even the elements power to reverse. The reason we needed you to become an alicorn…is because we need you to help us kill our mother.”

The world seemed to stop around Twilight as those words made their way through her mind. They needed her to help them kill Faust, the creator of their world, and the greatest of the immortals. She took a deep breath, steadying herself as she asked her next question, “and why do we need to kill her?”

“Because in her corrupted state, our mother will try to further the spread of the Abyss, for it now spreads from her very being. Unless we kill her, the darkness of the Abyss will consume us all, and we shall all die.”

Twilight gulped, not wanting to speak as the information played around in her head. She had been shown the Abyss before by Celestia, and she was absolutely terrified by it, for unlike most “places” she knew of, the Abyss felt like a living entity, dark, oppressive…and hungry.

Twilight also knew that it was impossible to save a pony who had been fully corrupted by the darkness of the Abyss, for they had tried to do the same to Sombra long ago, and they had discovered not only had he been totally corrupted by it…they discovered that to be touch by the energy of the elements while they were corrupted thus killed them.

She took a very deep breath, trying to quell the dread growing inside her. They needed to kill Faust, that much was apparent, but to do it would be another matter entirely. Faust was the god mother of their world, and she was the most powerful alicorn ever recorded to exist, a being that could move mountains with a mere thought. As to the thought of her with the magic of the Abyss on her side…it made skin crawl just thinking about it.

But she knew there was no other choice, so with a determined look she nodded. “Ok, when do we need to go?”

“Now,” said Celestia, getting up and being followed by Twilight and Luna as she headed out to the balcony. “We have a long way to travel if we are to make it to our destination, and we will be meeting up with three others during one of our stopping points, who will be invaluable in our quest.”

“Who will we be meeting princess?”

“Discord, Cadance, and the Changeling Queen Chrysalis,” said Luna

Twilight looked a bit surprised by this, “Chrysalis, but I thought she was our enemy?”

“She used to be a good friend, before the Crystal Empire disappeared from our land. You see the Crystal Empire not only spread love and protection to all parts of Equestria, but it also was the primary source of food for the Changelings before they went feral from starvation. Now that the crystal has returned, Chrysalis and her people have returned to their natural state.”

Before Twilight could ask further Celestia leaped off the balcony, soon followed by Luna and a reluctant Twilight.

For she knew that if they failed, there would be no going home…for any of them.

Hm...not much to say really...dont know why but I always feel like I need to say something here. Well anyways, hope you all enjoyed the chapter, and if you guys have any questions or comments, please feel free to drop them on by, I love hearing from you guys.

(Oh and yes, I know that the abyss thing sounds like a crossover form dark souls...and I do admit it kinda is...and it kinda isn't, but its not enough like it for me to give it the crossover tag.)
