Two Years Later

Twilight and Dewlap walk across the destroyed road of Canterlot. Dewlap was twenty-nine years old. They kept silent as groups of changelings roam the area. They poke their heads out and throw knives at them. They fall down hissing.

"Nice throw." Dewlap told Twilight. They came out of the open, meeting each other.

"Is that a compliment or an insult because I can't tell." Twilight responded. They smiled. Life was better. If anything stood in their way, they'd get past them.

"Ok, let's remember what we're doing." They stared their destination: Celestia's castle. They traveled through the city without meeting any more trouble. As they arrive, the castle was the only thing that was intact after the entire invasion started. Dewlap tried to open the door but it was block.

"We could go around," Twilight suggested. They checked the outskirts as they went around the castle. The back door was wide open. "Strange," Twilight thought. Their hoof steps echo as they step in the castle. They continue their plan on every step of the way. They look around for danger, yet there was none.

"I wonder how Rainbow dash came here, but she owes us something." Dewlap confirmed. As they walked through doors, watching everything when they open them, there was always extra footsteps. Otherwise that, it had been fine. A few minutes had past, and every once in a while, the extra footsteps were there. Once they entered a narrow corridor, Twilight finally decided to turn around to search for the other pony. She averted her head.

"Alright! Show yourself!" she demanded. A swift rainbow trail appeared and Dewlap had such great accuracy, he managed to hit Rainbow dash on her hoof by throwing a knife. It pierced her hoof, causing her to wail in pain.

"Agh! Okay, you got me!." Rainbow dash said with tears streaming down her cheeks. As the pair approached her, she squirm to free herself, because the knife not also went into her hoof, it hit the floorboards, planting her there. "Okay! Just let me go!" she pleaded.

"The bits, now. Or I'll pull it out the painful way." Dewlap told her. Rainbow dash started to laugh.

"Ha! This is what it's about? Just money?" Dewlap knelt down to her hoof and started tilting it upwards. "AH!!! Please, stop it! It's in the next three doors, to the left! Can you let me go?!" She pleaded.

"Well I think that would be bullshit if I did." Dewlap thought. He pulled a gun out and pointed it at her.

"Wait! Wait! Plea-" She was cut off by a bullet going through her head. Her head fell, and when it hit the ground, it made a hollow sound as if she had no brain at all. They stared at her head as it gushed blood.

"She deserved it." Twilight said. Dewlap kept staring a the corpse, laying in a pool of blood. He then looked back at Twilight and nodded with agreement. They finally started to walk towards their objective again.

"Hey. You know, for a rainbow pegasus, wouldn't you think that her blood is made of rainbows?" Dewlap wondered.

"Well, now that you mention it, yes. I thought it would be made of rainbows," Twilight replied. As they reached the door, Dewlap pulled out his gun. He then smashed the door down, continuing with gold coins. "Wow, she wasn't smart enough to put traps."

"She doesn't even think about traps," Dewlap replied. He knelt by a pile of bits and then started gathering them in his arm. "Let's just take our money back and leave." Dewlap said. He pulled out a sack and dropped the money in the bag. They exited the room and started heading back to their tent. They left the castle and followed at road, or they would call it and earthquake.

"So, after this, what do we do?" Twilight inquired.

"I say we sleep. It's a long way here and back, and I'm tired as well. So we sleep." Dewlap answered. Once he finished the sentence, there was a loud buzzing noise in the distant areas. "You hear that as well, right?" Dewlap wondered.

"No doubt." Twilight responded. They ran between buildings and hid there. The noise got louder and changeling rose to the skies, roaming the area. "Where to now?" Twilight asked. Dewlap started to look around.

"Uh, that coffee shop there, we run over there, but on my mark." He said. He held up his hoof and then put it down and started running towards the shop.Twilight followed when she saw him. They entered in a rush and then blocked the door with chairs. They looked towards the back exit and heard a growling noise. A changeling poked their head out and tackled Dewlap. It's horn started to glow. "Not today!" He placed the barrel of his gun on the changelings head and pulled the trigger. The gun clicked. Dewlap remained in shock.

"Get off of him!" Twilight yelled. She tackled the changeling and grabbed a sharp, metal fork and stabbed the changeling. "Hey, are you alright?" Twilight asked. She walked over to him and pulled him up.

"I was scared." Dewlap admitted. They continued to the back door and left the building. They went to a highway and pasted a sign saying You are now leaving Canterlot. "Thanks back there. I owe you one."

"No you don't, but I have a question… You know, never mind. I'll tell you later." She bit her lip, hoping Dewlap would not ask what the question was. "I'm surprised that you didn't die." Twilight said.

"I'm surprised you didn't leave me to die." Dewlap declared. Twilight didn't respond.

They got back to their tent in silence. It was night when they got there. Nothing was there, nothing besides hills and grass. They were in their safe haven.

"Twilight, I'm going to stay outside for tonight." Dewlap said. Twilight looked back as she almost entered their tent.

"I thought you were going to sleep," Twilight said.

"I don't feel like it." He replied. He sat down, grazing on a hill. Twilight went back and joined him. He looked up in the starry night sky, staring out into space. Twilight looked down at him and sat near him. She then looked down, feeling depressed for some reason.

"Dewlap? Why did you come here?" Dewlap stood still when she asked those words. His eyes started to tear up.

"I don't know." He whispered. He started to stutter. "I uh, um, uh, duh." He swiftly stood up and ran into their tent. He laid down, putting his head under his arms, starting to whimper. Twilight rushed to him.

"Dewlap, do you need to be alone?" Twilight asked. He shook his head. She sat down next to him.

"I'm scared, Twilight. I'm scared." He said with his voice shaking. Twilight wrapped her arm around him. He started crying. He stopped for a second and reached out to grab a bag. He opened it and his crown was in it. He pulled it out and stared at it. "I never was one." He muttered. He placed the crown back in its bag.

"Dewlap, please. You been your bravest, and its hard to see you like this." Twilight said. Dewlap started making an eerie noise. He switched into Derpy, Spitfire, and Soren. He then switched back to himself. "Dewlap, I got something for you. Two things actually." She rummaged through a pile of boxes and then pulled out a long box. She then presented it to Dewlap. "Dewlap, please, look at me." He pulled his head up.

"What's in it?" He asked. Twilight opened it. What was in it was a sword with a sharp blade and a holster. He pulled then out of the box and slipped the sword into the holster.

"I made it myself in my spare time. The blade is strong enough to hardly even be broken." She informed. She closed the box and grabbed a gold belt. She handed it to him. He put it on and clipped the sword onto it.

"Thanks Twilight, really appreciate it." He said. He looked around out of curiosity. "You got anything else?" He asked. Twilight's head snapped up.

"Thanks for reminding me!" She said. She went through the pile of box again. She then pulled out a small box. "You know what, I'll save this for later." She said. "We should sleep though." She implied. Then there was a noise. Dewlap was snoring from boredom. She looked at him with a small grin. She touched his mane. It felt soft and silky. She laid down and instantly fell asleep.

Twilight was the first to wake up. There were foot steps outside the tent. She wanted to investigate, but she was too tired. "Dewlap," She whispered. "Dewlap." She whispered again. It was no use. He was sleeping like a rock. She took his sword and looked outside. There were three royal guards approaching the tent. She rubbed her eyes.

"Twilight!" One of the guards yelled. They ran towards the tent in a hurry. They came up to her.

"Oh hi!" She waved her hoof. "What's happening?" She asked.

"Hand it over." One said gruffly.

"Hand what over?" she asked.

"The changeling you are harboring." The guards replied.

"Ok, one. He's not an it. Two, no." She said. One of the guards took out a sword. Twilight stepped back. She then flung the sword at one of the guards. "Sorry!" She ran inside the tent and grabbed the small box that she had last night and grabbed Dewlap as well. "Come on, we're getting out of here." She whispered into his ear. She put him on her back an ran into the fields. The guards pursued after them.

"Twilight! Hand it over!" One yelled. Twilight made no response.

"Wake up you fool!" She said to Dewlap. He snored in response. "Ugh!" She rolled her eyes and ran faster. She looked around for a forest or someone place else to hide. Dewlap started coughing. His eyes slowly opened as he stared at Twilight.

"Why are you running?" He moaned. Twilight hit his head. "Ow, what was that for?" He asked.

"Celestia wants you dead! That's why I'm running! Now get on your hooves and run!" She implied. Dewlap's cyan eyes shot open and got off Twilight.

"Where to now?!" He asked. Twilight searched for a forest. She then caught a glimpse of a cluster of many trees.

"There!" She yelled. They ran towards the trees. Dewlap looked back and saw the guards catching up to them. They got to the forest in no time and ran behind trees. The guards stopped chasing after them and returned to the tent. Dewlap and Twilight were panting. They then laughed a bit.

"I'm amazed by how we're still alive. Heh," Dewlap said.

"I love you." She said in a monotone voice. "I mean, uh, yeah, me too." Dewlap looked at her with confusion. Then he lowered his head with a frown.

"You do, huh? Then that is a danger to both you and me." He said scratching his mane. "You see, changelings feed off of love. You and me, that can't happen." Twilight came up to him. She then kissed him on the lips and Dewlap remained in shock.

"You don't need to leave." She said. Their eyes met, staring at each other. "What can happen is us eating." She reached up and grabbed a couple apples. "Here," She handed an apple to Dewlap. She then ate her apple. She looked at Dewlap, who started nibbling on his apple. She groaned. "What are you so afraid of?! We are still alive! So who cares if we love each other!? They can try to stop us! Remember Canterlot, with Dave?!"

"Don't mention his name." He whispered.

"Dave helped us! Can't you help me!?" Twilight as she approached Dewlap.

"I said, don't mention his name!" He shouted. He then pushed Twilight back. She fell with her mane in dirt. Dewlap realized what he was. He looked at his hooves, then at Twilight. "I'm, I'm sorry" Dewlap slowly backed away, and then ran from her.

"Dewlap! Dewlap, please!" She shouted. "Don't leave me here alone." Twilight said with her voice breaking. She looked at the apple that he dropped. A tear fell from her eye.
