The Rebel King
The Search for Dewlap
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI gathered branches to build a miniature tent from the rain. It had been two hours since Dewlap abandoned me. I let him leave, got him out of trouble, and this is how he repays me. I already miss the cyan eyes that would look at me. I've never been so sad. And the rain made it worse. I must show him what was in that box. I must! You think he would stay by me, but no. The box has something import ant in it, more important and Celestia, Luna, and Cadance combined. Well, more important than Cadance. Hopefully, I will find him. I heard that Canterlot is being rebuilt. Maybe he's there. Just maybe.
"Twilight!" I heard my name called. My eyes lit up. Instead, it was my brother, Shining Armor. I made a depressed sigh. "Twilight! Most of the attacks are over! We can go back to Canterlot. Continue your studies! It'll be great!" He said anxiously. He had a grin. To be honest, I don't want to go to Canterlot anymore. Sure, maybe I'll see him. But the guards would be swarming there, keeping an eye out for changelings, and maybe me as well.
"Ok," I said. I wasn't feeling happy as him. I kept my voice low. His grin faded away.
"Is there something wrong, Twilight?" He asked. I bit my lip.
"No. How's ponyville, though." I asked. Shining's eyes darted to the right. He inhaled.
"Ponyville is gone. Nothing but a wasteland." He replied. I looked down. I sighed. "Twilight, is that true?" He asked.
"What? What is true?" I asked. He looked at me with a stern face.
"Three guards came back with one bleeding badly. They reported that you helped a changeling and you cause the guard to bleed by stabbing him with a sword." He said. "Is that true?" he asked. I couldn't lie to him. But this was a serious time for an excuse. I felt pressured.
"That does not sound like me" I lied. Who knows what would happen if I told the truth. His smile came back. He rubbed my head.
"Heh, I knew you couldn't do something like that. But let's go to Canterlot now." He said. He walked away and then went towards the direction of Canterlot. He went off into the direction of Canterlot. I stared at him as he ran off.
By the time I got there, eyes locked on to me. Some guards looked at me suspiciously. Then I saw the guard I stabbed. I then put a fake smile on my and I was already sweating my plot off. I got to my small house, which was bigger on the inside. I closed the door and rubbed my back on it.
"Ugh, this sucks." I groaned. I walked towards a cabinet with books in it. I grabbed one and opened it. It was a thick book, with three hundred and sixty two pages. I read the book, but my eyes slid towards my window. I saw a swift, black figure run from a side of my window to another side. It woke me up. I rubbed my eyes. I then closed my book and walked towards the window. I opened it. I looked at both sides.
"Must be my imagination." I muttered to myself. I saw the same figure jump from the roof next to me and onto mine. Bang! I closed the window and then walked to my door. I knelt down and bolted the lock. After that, the knob jiggled.
"Coming! Just let me unbolt this stupid lock!" I shouted through the door. I unbolted it and then nothing was there. I stood there. Then I heard a noise. The window opened and the figure came in and left in a knick of time. I ran towards the window. I looked around. I noticed a small change in the room. There was a note on one of my cabinets. I picked it up and read it. He'll try it said. I was confused. Who's He. What will he try? I felt tired, I couldn't think.
I looked around the room and sat on my bed. I then layer in it. I closed my eyes and instantly fell asleep.
I was in my dream, which started out in my room. There were others in it. It was Dewlap, but he was laying on the floor in pain. Next to him was Shining Armor. My brother pulled out a sword. Dewlap got up, but Shining swung his sword at his neck. Dewlap grabbed the slit on his neck, which was spilling almost every drop of blood Dewlap had. He made a gargling noise. He fell into a pool of blood. I noticed something else. There was a pony behind a big wardrobe. It was me, quivering in fear. The me in my dream bursted into tears
How could you! She yelled. I'd thought I would never see the day. I was mad at my brother once when he didn't tell me he was going to tell me that he was getting married in person. But this, this past the line. Shining Armor looked angry at me. He raised his sword.
Fine, be a traitor. He said. My demise was the same as my closest friend(Not taking it that far). I realized what my brother would become. A monster. Shining raised his sword again. He then thrusted it at Dewlap's heart. As soon as it touched the cheese pony's skin, I woke up with a fright. I grabbed my heart. I imagined Dewlap at my side, comforting me. I refused to go to sleep. I remember the time that I did something spectacular when Dewlap was here. I smiled a bit. I laughed a bit as well, but I stopped, thinking I was going insane. There was a knock on the door. I shrieked.
"Twiley!" A voice said from the other side of the door. If it wasn't for that dream, my brother would be one of my greatest relief. The damn bastard killed me and Dewlap in my dream. I unbolted the door. I was about to twist the knobbed, but the door opened by itself. Shining Armor had a huge grin on his face. I found it creepy.
"Hey brother! Your grin is most, um. Erm. Interesting?" I said nervously. I face hoofed. He had something behind his back. "So, what's in the thing you got there?" I asked. For reasons unknown, I found that sentence weird.
"You'll have to guess!" He said anxiously. I rolled my eyes.
"Apples?" I took a wild guess.
"Nope." He responded.
"I have no idea." I said. He pulled out a basket from behind his back. What was in the basket was many large size gems that would make Rarity fall into a coma for about five months. I grabbed the basket and put it down next to me. "Ok, bye then." I said. I was about to shut the door, but Shining put his hoof on the door.
"Twilight, you're acting strange now. Is there something you'd like to discuss." His tone of voice seemed sympathetic. I wanted to let him in, but that dream made him look worse than manure.
"Well, I want to be alone. But thanks anyways." I said. I slammed the door shut and also creating an echoing noise. I looked at the gems. I then wielded them with my magic and started throwing them everywhere in frustration. "What are you talking about!?" I questioned. The note was confusing, and speaking of which. I found it ironic that after I read the note, I slept and had a twisted dream. What was that note doing with my life? I felt as if I was being toyed around, being a puppet. I got up and smashed a gem with just a hoof stomp. I looked at the shattered gem. I felt a bit pain on my hoof. I pulled my hoof up to see shards sticking out of it with blood dripping.
"Heh, ha, aha ha!" I laughed maniacally. I pulled the shards out off my hoof. I squinted, but I kept laughing. I felt insane, laughing when in pain. I couldn't stop laughing at this. You'd think I'd stop by now, but this, it felt like a common thing. Pain is a common field.
I watched through the window, Twilight going insane. That was not part of my plan, but it'll do. I kept watching, but she calmed herself down and looked towards the window. I ducked, hoping she wouldn't find me. I then disguised myself as a bright orange mare with a orange mane. I went towards the streets in panic for a reason. Just one spark or glow can cause such concern to me. Market places were flooded with ponies. Some would push others for a useless item. Near one shop was a lot of commotion. There was a circle around a pony in armor. I realized it was Shining Armor.
"What will we do?!" A pony shouted.
"What if they come back!?" Another one asked.
"Settle down! We all have something to share, but it doesn't mean we should start a riot!" Shining Armor said. My right hoof started to shimmer once he said that. I hid my self in the crowd. "All we can say is that the royal guard will be at high alert!" He said.
"Celestia has done nothing about it! Like the royal guards would do any less!" A pegasus informed.
"Hey! We are doing the best we can!" Shining said. The crowd murmured. After that, the crowd got bigger and the streets were almost empty. I had no idea what to do or say, so I left. I went back to the streets, searching for something to buy. I saw something that caught my eye: Food. I went to the merchant.
"Hey, Carrot top. What can I get you?" He said.
"Just some apples." I replied. The merchant reached down and handed me a batch of apples. I laid fifth teen bits on the counter. I turned and left without a word to say. My next destination: My shelter.
I went in the fields were Twilight held me and escaped the guards. I entered the tent I had, which was crammed with boxes Twilight used to have. I stopped suddenly. I looked out into the fields, then I noticed Twilight. I looked farther and then rubbed my eyes, she vanished into dust. I went back inside. I reached out for a saddle bag which had my crown. I remembered what it could do. When I woke up after I past out, I healed Luna. I set down the batch of apples. I threw the saddle bag over my bag.
"Back to Canterlot I go." I muttered to myself. I went outside when the sun was setting.
Canterlot was the last place I wanted to go. The royal guard was around every corner of the street. It was night and very dark, so my color could help me. I swept past a pair of guards. When I past them, I hit their necks. They groaned, hitting the ground.
"Stay down for me, will you?" I said to their unconscious bodies.I held onto the handle on my sword. I went to a street with no guards at all. I wiped my forehead, which was soaked with sweat. I went on the sidewalk on high alert. I heard hoof steps following me. I pulled out my sword. Shining Armor was following me. He had a bronze sword out. "Hm, guess we'll fight then."
"Who said that?" He asked. He looked around him. I should've kept my mouth shut. He noticed me a second after. His eyes locked onto me. I stood my ground. "Why am I not surprised. I suspect you brought more." He said.
"I hated the race." I replied sternly. He approached me. I swung my sword to send him back.
"What's in the bag?" He asked.
"A crown." I said.
"Who's crown?"
"My crown."
"Why do you have it?"
"Not that you should know." He stopped asking questions. I held up my sword. "Well, you found me. Might as well fight to the death."
"I got better plans." He said gruffly. He charged. "AHHH!!!" He yelled. Our swords hit each other, causing sparks to fly. He pushed his sword onto mine. He thrusted it and threw me back. My hooves slid on the ground causing dust. I paid attention to his movements. I swung my sword, hitting his. They clashed, throwing us back both ways.
"We're equal." I said. I lunged my sword at him. He dodged it.
"Does it matter? One of us is going to die." He said. We charged at each other. Our sword clashed. He raised his foot and hit my leg.
"Dah!" I fell down. He broke my leg. My sword flew a few feet away. I limbed towards it, but Shining Armor hit my other leg, leaving me immobile. I trembled in pain. I looked up at my opponent. He raised his sword. He swung it at my head. That was it. But instead of my head, it was my horn. It fell off, landing in front of my face. My head hit the ground. I could only breath.
"I told you, one of us is going to die." He said with a smile on his face. He lifted it again.
"No!" A pony shrieked. My sword had a purple aura and raised itself to block Shining's attack. Twilight came in my point of view. She hit the back of his neck and he fell down. She picked me up and ran into the night. I finally had the power to raised my hoof. I rubbed her cheek.
"Thanks." I croaked. My hoof fell down.
"Don't die on me Dewlap!" She said with her voice faded away. I smiled.
"Too late." My voice was gone. My vision was fading into white.
Author's Note
This chapter was hard to make be cause the lack of ideas. I thought it would've been easier if it was in first person. "Pain is a common field." came from Doug Rattman from Portal 2.
