Tales of a Madpony With a Box
Things Heat Up part 2

Part 2
I recall saying the current situation is impossible.
It is not.
If it were impossible then it would not have happened.
Which it did.
Therefore it is not impossible.
It is improbable.
And the improbability of the situation is what makes it seem impossible.
_______________
Astonished, the three ponies looked towards the stairs. Unfortunately the stairs had a slight curve to them so they couldn't see up the length of them.
"Hello?" the Doctor called, eyeing the stairs for anything other than Twilight.
There was no answer.
The Doctor looked over at Ditzy and Twilight, then at the stairs.
"Were going up." he said and before anypony could protest he trotted carefully up the stairs.
He tried to make as minimal noise possible, this was hard considering he had hooves and not feet. And at the fifth stair he turned over to Ditzy.
"You. Fly." the Doctor said, making little motions with his hooves.
Ditzy gave him a confused look and spoke up:
"Why."
"Makes less noise."
"Makes me tired."
"Shut up and do it."
And so the pegasus reluctantly spread her wings and began hovering in the air.
"Is that good?" she said.
The Doctor put his hoof out and attempted doing a thumbs up but remembered he had no fingers.
He just nodded instead.
As they got to the ninth step, encroaching on the tenth the same voice...
...Twilights same voice...
...Said something:
"Spike is that you? You don't have to go hiding from me!"
The group of earth pony, unicorn and pegasus shared a gasp. They looked up to hear hoofsteps. She was coming over.
That ridiculous group of three did one thing:
They panicked.
And so, one by one the three of them bumped into each other sending an avalanche of colors down the stairs. At the end they landed like a sack of potatoes on the ground.
The next instance happened in slow-motion, as do lots of other equally suspenseful moments in a beings life.
Such as that one time a man dropped his house keys down the sewer grate.
Or the time that one ape of GOMUI-V76 ALPHA fell off a Gombiii tree onto a carnivorous Oziboroug Plant.
And so, the three of them, bound by some oppressing force of unnatural godly power had to sit there like a discarded garbage bag as Twilight began an excruciatingly long trot down the treehouse stairs.
The only other living entity in this particular treehouse was Spike, who was in fact, the only person not bound to the slow-motion suspence, trudged into the room.
Spike was holding up a tray containing Twilight's quill collection. Why she had a quill collection is a story for another day.
Spike stared for a puzzled moment at the three ponies, though it somehow didn't strike him as odd that the three of them were moving very, very slowly.
Spike gave a shrug, placed the quill on the table behind them and proceeded off to the kitchen.
Twilight had made her fifth step downwards (which was her 12th step upwards, so you can compare it to the previous stair-walking experience the three at the bottom had) when her head finally spun around the corner.
It was Twilight.
Or an exact replica of Twilight, if you were the real Twilight looking at whichever is the fake Twilight.
And on the inside, the fake Twilight was probably grinning and saying gotcha!
But on the outside, they all remained slack jawed.
All, but the Doctor. He studied the two and contemplated what exactly was going on.
After a this slack jawed response to everything, the two Twilights finally broke eye contact and looked at the Doctor.
"Changelings" they said in unison.
The Doctor looked again at them both, looked down and nodded.
"Zygons" the Doctor corrected them. "One of you is a Zygon!" the Doctor looked up and paused.
"For the meantime," the doctor said, "you will be Twilight no.1" he said, pointing at the Twilight on the stairs, "and you, will be Twilight no.2."
The two Twilights looked at one another and then to the Doctor.
"But... I can't be Twilight no.2! I'm the real Twilight"
"Oh, really?" the Doctor said, his head hung low as to figure out what to do here.
Twilight no.1 noticed this and blurted out.
"Hey, I'm the real Twilight! Not this... " she trailed off, not very keen on isulting herself. Even if herself happened to be in a different body.
"What will we do..." the Doctor muttered, his eyes still on the floor.
The still confused Ditzy heard this and lifted herself lazily off the ground.
"We could do an investigation!" she said, "you know, we could become detective ponies and find out who the real Twilight is!"
Despite the way that she put that, the Doctor still took it into consideration.
"An investigation... hmmm..." the Doctor looked up, his eyes bright. "An investigation! Ditzy, you're a genius!"
"Ummm... You're welcome..."
"An investigation! Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that! Haha!" The Doctor looked up and made eye contact with the two of them. "Brilliant." he muttered.
_______________
The Doctor had never actually done an investigation, he just thought it sounded fun.
The Doctor also knew he couldn't have either of the Twilights helping him. And so, to prevent said situation arising, the Doctor put Twilight no.1 upstairs and Twilight no.2 downstairs and told them both to stay put and not interfere with the investigation.
He got Spike to help instead.
The investigation took an hour, give or take. They didn't find much of importance, a pair of glasses, a science book, a Zygon watch, ok, that may be important. Aside from that, nothing was really helpful.
"Shame," the Doctor said, "I was hoping an investigation would be more fun, or at least turn up some clues. At that moment, the Doctor had absolutely no leads, and any idea he came up with was, in his situation, rubbish.
_______________
When the Doctor finally called it quits, he gathered everypony upstairs and around a small-ish table that was just large enough to fit the Doctor, Ditzy and the two Twilights.
The Doctor thought that he may need to tell the two Twilights apart, so, he went to his coat, pulled out two somethings and returned to the table.
The somethings in particular were, in fact, a slightly worn out and crumpled fez and a dog tag made of some alien metal with the word Rover (evidently the name of the dog) and a phone number which read: 6@004-23$-5442*, an intergalactic phone number, obviously.
He returned carrying the fez upside down in his mouth with the dog tag inside it. He dropped the two on the table, giving Twilight no.1 the fez and Twilight no.2 the dog tag.
"Ok," the Doctor said, once both Twilights had finished, "let's go over our evidence, which, I admit, isn't very much at all."
The Doctor had Ditzy lay the three items on the table.
"So," The Doctor told them, "one or both of you are Zygons." he paused. "Though, I'm entitled to believe only one of you is, considering neither of you have attempted an attack."
The Doctor sighed and looked down at the floor, he had no idea where to go from there.
"Ummm... Doctor, we could, you know, interrogate them." Ditzy said hopefully.
"No, too complicated," the Doctor looked up, "let's first go over what we've got to work with."
"So, to begin the second half of our investigation," the Doctor looked over the items laid on the table, "were going to need some tea. Spike! Could you come here a minute?"
And sure enough a little baby dragons waddling footsteps came slowly up the stairs.
"Yes, what could I do for you?" the little baby dragon said in that little baby dragon tone that makes you want to pick up and cuddle that little baby dragon all day long.
Ok, that may be a bit of an exaggeration.
"One cup of tea please." the Doctor said. "Oh, and with milk and sugar."
With that in mind the baby dragon waddled off once again, leaving the four of them alone in the room.
"So, let's begin." the Doctor stated. "To start off, we have these glasses. Now, when me and Ditzy over here had the conversation with the mad Twilight she was wearing glasses, but..." the Doctor thought back for a moment, "when she left and came back from upstairs she wasn't, and that's when I'm assuming the switch started, and that would mean Twilight no.1 is the one with the glasses."
Twilight no.1 nodded a painful nod to indicate this was true.
"So, now we have to think if the original Twilight had glasses."
"No, she didn't!" Ditzy said instantly.
"So, that points against you, Twilight no.1!" The Doctor pointed his hoof accusingly at the fez sporting Twilight.
"Wha- but I put them on afterwards!" she protested.
"A likely story." dog tag Twilight said sarcastically.
"Quit yapping at one another!" the Doctor said, as they were yapping almost like two chewawas. "There is still evidence pointing towards you, No.2! You see, how could you slip from downstairs to upstairs without us noticing?" Twilight no.2 gave a shocked look.
"Ummm... uhhh..."
"A likely story." No.1 mimicked.
"Still, there is evidence pointing towards this you No.1, you see, this science book was upstairs, and this very science book was the exact same science book from in the basement! That would suggest-"
"That Twilight no.1 is the culprit!" Ditzy blurted out.
"No." the Doctor said, "Not just yet, you see, we still have one more piece of evidence, the Zygon watch."
Both Twilights looked at the watch with a cold sweat.
"This watch," the Doctor started, "was found in the kitchen, next to the back door, suggesting the Zygon came in from there. Now, lets have a look at this watch, shall we." the Doctor opened the straps to see that around the inside of the strap there were small half-circles.
"You see these?" the Doctor said, "These would make an imprint on your hoof for no matter how long you wore it." Twilight no.2 gave a smirk of victory, no.1, a face of sheer terror. The Doctor continued. "Those marks would last more or less a whole day, so, let me see you're hooves!"
Twilight no.2 obeyed, as no.1 reeled in horror.
"No. No. No. No. No. No. NO!" she screamed!
"So, I think we have a culprit." the Doctor smirked. "So, the situation went like this. The Zygon ship dropped one off when two was downstairs with us. One then placed her watch down, put on a pair of glasses she found and waited by the door to the basement and when two came up, she switched roles. So two was upstairs with the science book and one was with us, one then went upstairs and two came downstairs, then we noticed one and things played out from there. Isn't that right, my Zygon friend.
Her look of pitifulness turned sour and hateful.
"You may have stopped me, Doctor!" she said, not changing into her Zygon form. "But our attack isn't over, we will end the sorry planet and all who inhabit it. And you are just an added bonus! Hahahaha!"
And with that a beam of foul red descended upon the Zygon as she was beamed up to her ship.
"I guess I'll be staying here a while longer"
_______________
The Doctor said his goodbyes over a cup of tea and exited the treehouse.
"let's get to the TARDIS, shall we?" he said, giving a slight smile.
He looked up, and recalled something, something important, something he noticed when he first arrived.
"The Doctor awoke outside the TARDIS, looking up at the beautiful sun... an abnormally large beautiful sun."
"Who did you say controlled the sun here?" the Doctor asked.
"I didn't."
A look of panic crossed his face.
"Aaaaggghhhh!!!" The Doctor screamed as a searing pain struck his body.
