Things Heat Up
Part 1

The Doctor struggled to break free of the wires connected to his legs, head and chest. Below him were an impatient purple unicorn and concerned gray Pegasus.

Twilight feverishly paced around the room, picking up pieces of data and carefully examining them before dropping them and looking for more.

The Doctor looked on, watching as the unicorn snaked around the various machines that scattered the floor. He looked across the room to see a very confused looking Ditzy, half watching Twilight piece two and two together. The Doctor chuckled, his first hour in a new world and he'd already a made a fool of himself, been strapped to various wires and become a test subject.

Twilight gathered various mashes of data in her hooves and spread them out onto a table, studying them.

"It just doesn't add up..." The unicorn broke the akward silence that had engulfed them for so long. "Everything looks like a normal pony." She continued."Except..."

"Two hearts?" The Doctor asked hopefully.

"How did you kn-"

"You'd think a guy would know about something like that."

"But... Ive never seen anything like it!"

"That's because i'm not like you, that's what I've been trying to tell this little Pegasus!" The Doctor pointed his hoof at Ditzy who smiled guiltily in return.

"What do you mean by "not like you"?"

I mean I'm not really a pony, I come from somewhere else"

"You can't possibly make me believe you're an alien, wheres the proof?" She said, thoroughly dumbfounded.

"All the proof you need is in front of you" the Doctor replied, smiling fondly.

"But... But" she panicked, she wasn't scared of the self-proclaimed alien, she was just contemplating the existence of aliens, and it made her feel small.

The universe is a very scary thing.

_______________

After being unstrapped from the various bits and bobs he was stuck to, the Doctor, Ditzy and Twilight made their way upstairs and into the library.

As they arrived Twilight called something upstairs. She then began madly looking through the books, finding anything she could about space.

A few moments later a happy little purple and green dragon appeared from the upstairs floor. He introduced himself as Spike.

"Hi, I'm Spike, Twilights number-one assistant!" he beamed. The Doctor concluded that Twilight was the purple unicorn who seemed oddly paranoid at the time.

"Hello, I'm the Doctor, a Timelord from the planet Gallifrey!" the Doctor said to the overly joyful looking dragon.

"Well then... Anyway, Twilight wanted me to ask if you wanted any food or drinks!"

"Oh, yes please, do you have tea, I like tea."

"Yes sir," the dragon saluted. "and what do you want... Derpy?"

"Oh... Uh, I'll have a muffin."

"Alright, one tea and one muff-"

"Oh, could I have a muffin too? With butter!"

"Ok, make that one tea and two muffins with butter!"

The baby dragon waddled into the kitchen, passing the still frantic unicorn.

There was an awkward silence among the two of them, both avoiding eye contact with the other. The Doctor then spoke up.

"I can't help but notice that the little dragon called you "Derpy". Did I just hear something wrong or..."

"No, you heard correctly" she said plainly, the subject of that name made her uncomfortable.

"So, if I didn't hear it wrong why did he call you that? Doesn't it seem strange to you?"

"No, it's not strange its normal..." she trailed off. "...for me."

"So, what is it? An nickname of sorts?"

"You could say that..."

"Then all ponies call you by that nickname?"

"Yea"

"But, where does it come from, why do they call you that?" the Doctor pressed.

"I don't know"

"Yes you do, you have to, it's your nickname, where does it come from?"

"Well..." she started, gazing up at the ceiling. "I think their talking about my... Derpy eyes." She spoke sadly sulking into her chair.

There was a long pause.

"Well, that's not very nice" the Doctor said to himself. Ditzy didn't notice.

After another few more long minutes spike came with a platter containing one cup of tea and two steaming, freshly baked blueberry muffins.

Ditzy was the first to reach out and pick up her muffin, setting it on the table in front of her.

The Doctor then reached his hoof over and tried picking up the muffin.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

On the third try the Doctor gave Ditzy a helpless look and retreated his hoof back to it's previous spot.

Seeing this, Ditzy sighed and lifted the Doctors tea and muffin towards him.

The Doctor didn't make eye contact with Ditzy, he instead just stared down at his food for awhile.

"Ew, blueberry muffins!" the Doctor thought.

The Doctor had finally gotten over his embarrassment when the unicorn came to join them. As she did, she placed piles and piles of books around her, almost creating her own little fort.

It was, at this time when the Doctor looked up from the muffin he had previously been prodding (in disgust, mind you) and stared at the paranoid purple unicorn.

She looked like a true egghead, glasses and all, her hair was styled in a way that would make virtually any human on earth laugh.

"Then again, the Doctor thought, we aren't on earth, are we?"

Though she had sat down, the unicorn didn't look up, and the Doctor was beginning to believe Ditzy had brought him to the local mad scientist.

It was after this thought that she finally spoke up.

"Impossible." she said, the Doctor had noticed her muttering the same word over and over.

And then another thought crossed his mind, what if this unicorn, Twilight, had been absolutely normal and the Doctor had made her go mad.

It was a convincing story Considering it had happened before, except not about aliens and more about school.

The Doctor, of course, didn't know this and instead just based around the fact she was calm up until he mentioned being from "somewhere else", and then she went completely bananas.

Bananas are good.

Twilight then stared up and looked at the Doctor, making eye contact, she said in an almost threatening way:

"You're not scientifically possible." and she then proceeded to pick up her books and walk upstairs. Leaving the Doctor and Ditzy alone at the table.

A few minutes later Twilight emerged from the upstairs floor, right as rain, with no sing of the previous... Fiasco.

Twilight trotted over towards the table, carrying some data. She looked it over a bit and then called out.

"Spiiikkkkeeee! Could you make me a coffee please? Thanks!" and sure enough, you could hear the faint sound of the coffee machine grinding away.

"So," Twilight said. "what kind of alien are you?"

"I'm a Timelord of the planet Gallifrey!" she Doctor said as he watched Twilight flip through her book.

"Theres nothing on Timelords or Gallifrey in this book, I don't know where else to look."

"I do" the Doctor said, happy to put to use a little something that he got in the Fishdent 2 sector C quadrant, about 1200,0000,0020 lightyears away, give or take.

It is, in my opinion, important to note that the Doctor awoke outside the tarsus with his jacket on, he also took said jacket along with him and is, at the time of the story, hanging on the coat hanger just beside the door to Twilights library/treehouse sorta thing.

The Doctor then got up from the table and trotted over to his coat and began rummaging around in his coat pocket.

After a little while, the Doctor pulled out a small electric machine, kind of like a kindle. Of course, they don't have kindles in Equestria.

The Doctor took the electric machine (in his mouth by the way) towards the table and put it, cover first, in front of Twilight.

Twilight stared at the book for a minute, and then read the title aloud.

"Don't Panic", she read, the words were in bold letters and could be mistaken for the name, of course, twilight had read enough books to know that wasn't the title, so she looked at the smaller letters on the cover of the electronic book and found them to say:

"The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy!" the Doctor interrupted, "I considered getting the Encyclopedia Galactica, but I was told this one was better. Anyway, this should meet all your interstellar needs!"

Twilight stared at the Doctor for a good, long while. She, being a pony, had never seen any sort of electronic device before was very obviously amazed that a single button could make a whole screen come to life.

Also, the sole fact that there was ANY book in the universe she hadn't read sent long, nerdy shivers down her spine.

But the most amazing something the book had to offer was all the scientific knowledge it contained of the universe.

And so Twilight just sat there, looking at the electronic kindle-like book, her jaw slack, eyes full of awe.

The Doctor thought maybe it would have been a good idea if he hadn't shown her the book.

He was probably right.

The awkwardness of the moment and the sheer bewilderment in twilights eyes made the Doctor feel a bit uncomfortable.

Ok, maybe allot uncomfortable.

The Doctor put his hoof out and dragged the book across the table.

At this, Twilight snapped out of her trance and stared at the Doctor. He smiled apologetically and passed her the device.

"So... What do you do?" Twilight asked, she couldn't get farther than the big red button that turns on the screen.

"Well, you first decide what you want to search up, in this case it's Gallifrey, and then press the buttons with letters on them, when your done press start." He paused, "that's probably hard to do without hands, isn't it?"

"Hands?"

"Nothing, just... Well if we use the tips of our hooves (Haha, I have hooves) we should theoretically be able to type the words in... I think."

And so, after what felt like a million failed attempts they was finally able to type G-a-l-l-i-f-r-e-y into the built-in keyboard.

And so, one article appeared labelled simply as "Gallifrey", it read:

Gallifrey is the home planet of the ridiculously snobby Timelords, a race that has 13 different lives. Whenever they die, a new Timelord appears with a different face and personality, and sometimes different gender. It is due to this that the Timelords will most likely soon die of overpopulation.

"Thats a short article." Twilight said, staring at the book.

"Well at least it's not like the article on earth."

"Why, whats that one like?"

"It's only one word."

"What word?"

"Harmless"

It's true, go check you're copy, it'll say the exact same thing.

"Oh", the Doctor said, "that's a bit out dated, the Timelords died about... 400 years ago..."

Twilight gave him a look, she didn't like outdated copies of anything, especially books.

When they finished the Doctor put the book aside.

"So, you're species is gone" Twilight said.

"Yep, I'm used to it." the Doctor said, sighing.

"Well, what happened?"

"I killed them."

There was a long silence, nobody said anything, spike brought twilight's coffee to the table. He looked at the three morbidly silent ponies, shrugged, and returned to the kitchen.

Then one impossible thing happened.

A voice called from upstairs.

"Spike, can you get me my quill!"

It was Twilight.
