The Truth Beyond the Crystal

The day had finally come.

Sombra had waited for this day. He couldn't keep in his excitment, he couldn't even stay in one place. He started to jump on his seat that creaked every time he landed on it. He kept on until a stallion with a black coat and mane that hung messily over his crown. He also wore armor and a red cape, with a white fluffly trim at the end. The stallion let go of Sombra and placed him on the ground.

"Sombra please settle down." His deep voice made Sombra shiver, but the little grey filly removed his fear and just smiled."I can't help it. I just can't wait to see my new little brother or sister." Sombra was about to have a magic surge, but his excitment stopped when he felt his father nuzzle him.

"I am excited too, but a hospital must be a bit more silent. The ponies that work here need to concentrate or else." Sombra looked up at him and cocked a eyebrow."Or else what?"

"Or else the doctors might have to send us into banishment," he chuckled "you wouldn't want us to have that fate before we can meet the new baby." Sombra rolled his eyes and laughed."Yeah right. Who would banish you, you're King Obsidian." Sombra then crawled onto the chair, so that the two had their eyes at the same level. "And nopony goes against their king."

Obsidian smiled and moved strands of Sombra's white hair out of his face."Well now, I guess you're not afraid of anything then?"

Sombra thought for moment. Well nopony is fearless, at least everypony has a fear. Though Sombra can't think of one thing he is afraid of. He was a prince of the Crystal Empire, and he had a father that was stronger than any other. What was there to be afraid of? It took a while, but Sombra just shrugged. "I can't think of anything that I am scared of."

Obsidian sat down on one of the crystal made chairs and pulled in Sombra for a hug."That's good to hear, for when you're a king. You have to be brave for everypony you want to protect." Sombra then imagined himself being king and having everypony cheering his name. Sombra was going to be the greatest and most known king in history.

A crystal pony came up to the two and bowed her head respectfully and smiled."My king and prince, come meet your new baby." She led the way into the hallway. Sombra almost ran, but Obsidian wouldn't allow it. They both followed until they came to the room that Queen Icewing was in. Sombra could hear a little cry come from inside, and he smiled. He knew that that cry was his new brother and sister. The nurse was opening the door, and Obsidian leaned in close to Sombra."Remember to stay calm, just go in and don't-"

But it was too late. As soon as that door opened, Sombra ran in. He hurried to the bed, but couldn't see over the edge. He tried standing on his back hooves, but only saw his mother's face. Her light blue eyes turned toward Sombra and she smiled."Well insn't somepony excited." Her voice softly whispered and then her horn glowed white. Sombra felt his body being lifted and onto the bed. He kept hearing a soft cry coming from his mother's forelegs. Obsidian came up to the bed and looked at the new baby. He smiled and his red eyes looked onto Sombra."Come meet your new baby sister."

Sombra gulped a little. He didn't know what to do with his new sister, but he hasn't waited this long just to back out. He slowly approached the child. The more he got closer the more he got nervous. Finally he saw his new little sister. Her eyes were silver and she had white freckles. Her mane was black with white highlights and it was a little wavy. Her coat was grey, but was lighter than Sombra's, and the little filly was an alicorn.Sombra looked up at his mother with a wide smile."What's her name."

The white alicorn thought for a moment and looked at her husband."Do you like the name 'Sapphire' or 'Starlight'?" Obsidian looked at the little filly. "She looks like a Starlight to me." Icewing started to look disappointed,"But I like Sapphire." Then she looked at Sombra."How about we let Sombra be the tie breaker." Sombra's eyes widened and he looked away, but Icewing wanted his opinion.

"Come on just say a name you like best. Sapphire or Starlight." Sombra thought for a moment with his hoof to his chin. Then he smiled,"Why not both together, and make it 'Sapphire Starlight'."

Icewing and Obsidian looked at each other and smiled. Obsidian looked at his duaghter and confirmed it,"Princess Sapphire Starlight it is." Then he looked at his wife."Are you sure you wanted to have the baby here. The castle has much more comfortable beds and has the greatest doctors."

Icewing just gave little giggle and smiled,"I wanted to have my baby in the town, so that she is born among her subjects. Having the baby here was fine." Sombra smiled at his mother and asked,"Can I hold her?" Icewing looked at Sombra and motioned him to come closer. He gave Sombra his little sister and he started to feel happier than ever before. The baby smiled at her older brother and had ceased her crying. Sombra then whispered to her."I will be the best brother ever, I promise."
