Chapter 1: Hi there, I'm Apex
Load Full StoryNext Chapter"So, watch out for Pinkie, be extra kind to Fluttershy, complement Rarity's mane, ask Twilight about books and talk to Applejack about the farm. Did I miss anything out?" Apex said in an overly excited tone.
"Nope, that's about it." Dash replied.
Rainbow Dash and Apex had been flying towards Ponyville for about half an hour. The wind was chilled and the skies were clear, a perfect day for flying. They had recently left the Cloudsdale weather factory after picking up Rainbow's schedule for the month's weather in Ponyville. The flight was relatively quiet except for the few basic rules that Rainbow kept going over to make sure that Apex was kind and polite to all of her friends.
They had only met in a bar about a week ago but considering how many pranks they had pulled together Rainbow and Apex considered each other as friends. For some reason Dash thought it was necessary to keep reminding Apex that they were only friends and nothing more, to which Apex would usually reply something along the lines of "Yeah, I know. Don't worry, I'm not really one for the whole dating thing, anyway."
Most of the time that's all that was needed to satisfy Rainbow but sometimes she just had to be curtain, she had gotten the point across. "So, who are you going to introduce me to first?" Apex asked.
"Probably Fluttershy, she's the timid one." Dash replied.
"I know; I like timid ponies, they're always polite to make sure they don't annoy anypony." Apex explained.
"Yeah, Fluttershy's been my my friend since flight school, when I pulled off my first sonic rainboom." Dash flext her wings a bit before remembering flexing and flying isn't the best combination. She wobbled a bit then regained her balance.
"Wait, is Fluttershy your best friend or Applejack?" Apex asked. Rainbow had been talking of Apple quite a bit and was getting curious but when she spoke of Fluttershy she changed her tone to a very passionate and almost suductive pitch.
"Applejack is but don't any funny ideas for any of them." Rainbow demanded.
"No promises." Apex smirked. Rainbow Dash had described her friends in such detail that he felt like he'd known them for years. She made sure not to miss a single detail so that Apex knew who was who and what behavior to expect from them. The last week had pretty much been spent entirely on sitting in the bar, drinking cider while Rainbow Dash went over everything se had done with her friends and by everything, I mean everything!
"I'm serious, Apex. If you do start dating ponies, my friends are off the list." Rainbow explain.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to be dating for a while; I don't think I'm ready for that, yet." Apex said.
"Okay, I believe you. But if one of my friends asks you out, you better not hurt them or I'll snap you like a stick." Rainbow had only known him for a week but she felt like she could really trust him. He was a nice enough guy but she just wanted to make sure he didn't hurt her friends. Why does he look so familiar? I know I've seen him before but where have I seen him? I know he did something imporant but what? Dash thought.
"Hey, Rainbow. You okay?" Apex asked.
"Huh, what? Oh right, yeah I'm fine." Dash replied.
"You sure, you zoned out for a second there?" Apex continued.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Come on, let's get a move on. I want to be back in Ponyville soon, I miss my friends but don't tell anypony that. I have a reputation to hold, you know? Dash sped up towards Ponyville and Apex soon followed suit.
"Okay, this is Fluttershy's cottage." Dash rapped on the door in a nice rhythm They waited a few minutes and there was no answer. Dash knocked again but still, no answer. "Odd, maybe she's out. We'll have to come back later."
"Okay, who's next?" Apex asked. 'Please be Applejack. I love ponies with an accent.' Apex thought to himself.
"Twilight, she lives in the Golden Oaks Library which is closest to here." Dash replied.
Damn it!
"It's a tree?!" Apex pointed out.
"No shit, Sherlock." Dash knocked on the door in the same rhythm as the last and one again there was no reply. "Is everypony out today?"
"Looks that way doesn't it." Apex looked around the street and the rest of the town looked like a ghost town. "Looks like the whole town is deserted. Wait, you said Pinkie Pie's always been one for parties, correct?"
"Yeah, so?" Rainbow asked.
"Well, maybe the whole town is with Pinkie waiting for you so she can throw a surprise 'Welcome Back' party?" Apex suggested.
"You know, you might actually be on to something. Alright let's go to Sugar Cube Corner, that's where Pinkie lives." Rainbow gestured for Apex to follow while walking down the street to Sugar Cube Corner.
"Why, do I have to go first? It's your party." Apex asked.
"Fine, I'll go first. Wimp." Dash murmur under her breath.
"What was that last part?" Apex asked leaning in to hear her better.
"Nothing." Rainbow lied. Sometimes I love these parties but most of the time I hate them. They're just too damn much.
Rainbow slowly opened the door to Sugar Cube Corner, poking her head in slightly to find complete darkness. I guess Apex was right. Dash pushed the door the rest of the way and walked inside. Suddenly all of the lights turned on and the whole town shouted the one word she was hoping to avoid: "SURPRISE!"
"Told ya." Apex said as he walked past Rainbow joining the rest of the town. As he was walking his eyes met with those of an orange Earth pony in a stetson. He'd never seen such beauty before, her pony tail mane, her tri-apple cutie-mark and those freckles.Oh, how he loved those freckles. He knew who this pony was just from the description Rainbow had given him of her. The pony's name was screaming in his head. Applejack
He slowly approached her and lifted a hoof for Applejack to shake. "Hi there, I'm Apex."
