My One Winged Angel
You Don't Need Two Wings For Everything
Load Full StoryHearth's Warming Eve. A spectacular time of the year for everypony. A time where ponies can spend time with their friends and families inside their homes and under the white flakes of snow. It was a peaceful time of the year. It was also the time of giving gifts to each other, whether it's a toy, or love, or even a kiss under a mistletoe. It was that time of year where you can enjoy yourself and enjoy the spirit of Hearth's Warming.
But there is one young mare, an orange pegesus by the name of Scootaloo, laying in her bed only feeling nothing but hopelessness and sadness, all because of her abnormal back. The one thing that's different from most pegesi, the one thing that would make ponies like Diamond Tiara laugh at her and call her a freak.
It was a missing wing. Where her right wing used to be lies a small stump on her back. The only ponies that know about this is Rainbow Dash, the other elements of harmony, Sweetie Belle, and Apple Bloom. All of them didn't care that she only had one wing. They all still see her as the same old Scootaloo, but to her, it looked hideous. It made her want to crawl under her bed, and curl up into a ball and cry. She knows she can't fly with one wing, but she feels like she needs two for everything else.
It was nighttime and Scootaloo wanted nothing more than a new wing for Hearth's Warming. But it wasn't gonna happen. Her parents had plenty of money, and would love to do their best to try to replace their daughter's wing, but they can't find a single pony who'd be willing to donate one. All hope seemed lost for the young pegasus. She had decided to get up and walk up to her mirror. Looking at herself, she uttered two small words, and shed some small tears.
"Why me..."
Her stare into the mirror ended when she heard a doorbell echo throughout the house. Groaning, she decided to go to her front door and see who it was.
"Probably my parents. I didn't think they would be coming home so early." She thought to herself as she glumly went towards the door. Peering her head into the glass eyepeice on the door, she saw somepony she was not expecting to be there. She saw a teenage grey/white male pegasus with a jet black mane wearing a green striped scarf.
"R-rumble?" She said to herself. She was worried about what he might say to her about her wing because he did not know about it yet. Or so she thought.
From behind the front door, Rumble was standing in the snow, waiting for the pegasus pony to answer.
"Scootaloo? Are you there? I heard that you got into an accident and lost your wing and I wa-" his words were cut short when door slowly opened to reveal the purple maned pegasus with a missing wing.
"H-hi." He stuttered due to being in the cold for a while. Scootaloo looked at him and let him into the house so he can warm up. She then closed the door and locked it.
"Thanks Scootaloo, I was starting to shiver a bit."
"No problem." Scootaloo replied glumly. This behavior of Scootaloo caught the attention of the young stallion.
"Are you okay?" He said worriedly. Scootaloo turned her head towards him and looked at him with nothing but dull eyes
"Let's just...go to my room and talk okay?" She said. Rumble agreed and followed her to her room. There, she sat on one side of her bed and looked down. Rumble went to sit on the other side. After a few minutes of awkward silence Rumble spoke up.
"So...how is everything?"
Scootaloo didn't reply. Instead, she started to tear up.
"What's wrong Sco-"
"G-go ahead laugh! You know what it looks like right? Well go ahead and say it! It's hideous!" Rumble was taken aback by her behavior. As he tried to find the words to say, Scootaloo kept crying and sobbing.
"I don't think it's hideous." He said. Scootaloo immediately stopped crying and looked over to Rumble with red, puffy eyes.
"Y-you don't?" She stuttered.
"No. And I'm certainly not gonna laugh at it either."
"Your not?"
"No. Scootaloo can I ask you a question? How long have we been friends for?"
"Um...about a year?"
"Right and do you think that after the year we have been friends for that I'm just gonna laugh at you for having one wing?"
"...No."
"Then why were you worried that I was gonna laugh?"
"B-because...well...I feel like I can't continue life as a pegasus with only one wing. I can't even fly now. It feels awful that I'm a pegasus pony who can't fly." She looked down again with the same dull eyes as before.
"Who told you that?" He questioned.
"...Nopony...I just assumed that-"
"Every pegasus pony needs two wings to do everything they can do?"
"Yeah..."
"Scootaloo...that is not true and you know that." Rumble said.
"B-but don't you need two wings to fly?"
"Well yes but you don't need them for everything Scoots. You can still do things that pegesi can do without two wings. You can still walk on clouds right?"
"Yeah..." Scootaloo said, starting to feel a little better.
"And it's not like you have to fly up to a house in the clouds considering your home is on ground."
"True.." Scootaloo said, her mouth forming a small smile.
"And no matter what happens, you have me, the crusaders, Rainbow Dash, and other friends to help you out. You don't need two wings for everything Scootaloo. You just need to have the heart to do it. Nopony can tell a pegasus that he or she can't do this because they don't have two wings.
"Yeah...your right. I don't need two wings for everything I already do and can do in the future. Thanks Rumble. I actually feel a little better. Guess I just needed some sense knocked into my head." She said giggling, along with Rumble who gave a small chuckle. He was glad that Scootaloo was starting to feel better, but he also came to tell Scootaloo a little something that he has been holding on to for a while.
"If only I could tell him how I truly feel about him." She thought.
"Also there's something else I came her for Scoots." Rumble said, distracting Scootaloo from her thoughts on Rumble
"Wh-what is it?" She said, waiting for what he has to say.
"Ok here goes." He thought. "Like you said earlier, we have been friends for about a year right?"
"Yeah..."
"Well lately I-i've been looking at you differently." Rumble said, sporting a small blush.
"What do you mean?" Scootaloo asked, confused.
"I mean, everytime I look at you, I feel...happy. And...I-Ithinkyourcute!" He stuttered, his cheeks starting to redden more. Scootaloo on the other hand, had no idea what Rumble said.
"Um...could you say that again?" She asked.
"...I think your cute." He squeaked, his cheeks now a deeper shade of red.
"W-what?" Scootaloo said, her cheeks also reddening.
"I like you Scootaloo, I think your cute, and funny, and I even think your smart. Everytime I look at your beautiful face, my heart beats for you. I don't just like you...I'm in love with you."
Scootaloo was shocked beyond all belief. She didn't have a clue what to say about this. Here she was, moping over a lost wing, and now her crush Rumble comes in and admits his love to her.
"Oh my Celestia! He likes me? He likes me!? The pegasus with one wing? I-I never knew he truly liked me this way...what should I do? I love Rumble too...but...I-I don't know what to do!" she thought. She had no idea how to react to what Rumble just said to her.
"Do you really mean all of that Rumble?"
"Yes Scootaloo, from the bottom of my heart. I love you Scootaloo, and I don't care what anypony has to say about that or your wing. Your still the same beautiful young mare I love."
Scootaloo was once again in a state of unbelief. "Wow...he really does care for me. I guess its time to tell him." she thought. But before she said anything, she noticed something green on a desk beside her bed and looking at it with closer inspection, it was mistletoe. Looking back at Rumble with a smile and a blush on his face, she had an idea.
"Rumble." She said while looking at him in the eye.
"Y-yeah Scootaloo?" He said, worried that Scootaloo was gonna reject him.
"Close your eyes." He immediately did, and even covered them with his hooves.
"Don't peek."
"I'm not peeking." He said. Scootaloo slowly and silently went over to the mistletoe and grabbed it with her mouth. She then slowly opened her door hoping that it would not creek. Thankfully for her, it didn't, and she went into the hallway and slowly closed the door, while watching Rumble the whole time to make sure he did not peek. As soon as the was closed, she noticed a small hook on the top of the doorway, and jumped as high as she can with a little boost from her wing and placed the mistletoe on the hook. She then landed safely thanks to her wing slowing down her fall somewhat.
"Ok Rumble. Open your eyes and then the door."
"Ok." He said from behind the door. Scootaloo waited for the door to open and it did, revealing Rumble from behind it.
"Do you want your answer?" She asked in a cute manner. He silently nodded in reply.
"Look up above us."
And he did, seeing the green object above him. His eyes were in shock when he realized what it was.
"Is that mis-" he was cut off when a pair of orange lips met his, resulting in a kiss. At first, Rumble was surprised but later closed his eyes to enjoy it. He then wrapped his hooves around Scootaloo, who did the same to Rumble. The kiss lasted for quite a while but eventually they stopped.
"Wow. That was amazing Scootaloo. Thank you."
"No thank you Rumble. If you didn't come over, I don't know what would have happen. But I'm glad you did because I wanted to tell you this for such a long time."
"I'm glad you feel that way. Because I couldn't think of a better pony to kiss other than you." Rumble said with a smile. He was then hugged by Scootaloo again with tears of joy in her eyes.
"Happy Hearth's Warming Eve." She said. Rumble returned the hug and whispered something into Scootaloo's ear.
"Happy Hearth's Warming Eve...my one winged angel."
