Chapter 1: The discovery
Today Twilight sparkle was on her way to the Old Castle for another day of finding artifacts in the rubble, she was always alone All of Twilight's friends were off doing their usual activities, plus usually when they were with her on these types of missions they only slowed her down. Sure it was good to have them but books, and artifacts were not their thing, they didn't enjoy it so if anything she was giving them a favor by leaving them out of it. They would just sit around and possibly try to convince her to do something different. She had tried to get Rainbow dash to come along to keep an eye from above for added protection from a number of things hidden in and around the castle but she had to help create a storm with the weather ponies, so she was on her own today. Of coarse this was dangerous but she knew defensive and offensive spells so she could take care of small numbers of attackers, depending on what they were.
As usual she walked in, cast a light orb that followed her around to keep things visible and walked down the main hall to were the castle split off into several hallways, she only had one wing of the castle left to explore. She proceeded down this corridor moving rubble to find whats underneath and to clear a path to walk down. There were many libraries in this castle, 2 she had found and spent weeks browsing the books that hadn't had a hoof on them in ages. Down this corridor was a rather small library, filled with for the most part riddle books, one book stood out with gold lining and red lines pages. It was very small and had very few pages and at one point appeared to have a lock that had long rusted over and broke. There was no title on this book, but inside were piano combinations. This must have been for the piano that opened passages in the castle. Most were escape passages and armories, but one was simply labeled 'Mirror: Abandoned project'. This one stuck out the most, it would stick out to anyone. The curiosity, the need to know "Why was it abandoned". She found the piano and played the key combination and she heard a series of metal thunks and the sounds of massive hinges rotating. She went to the main hall and found a new passage had opened and this passage went down. This passage looked like it hadn't been opened thousands of years. Possible dating back to even before the banishment of Luna, or the finding of the elements. Down the passage were several very thick doors, some had been bulled back by the piano's mechanism, some were just very thick wooden doors that could be pushed open, but locked from the back, eventually she reached a small open room with a roundish object covered up by a dusty cloth. It was maybe double her size, and little wider then her. This object, hidden behind all these doors and locks just to be covered up with a cloth and forgotten about. Why would such an supposedly important thing be abandoned?
She levitated the cloth off the object to find a shattered mirror. Could this have been a mirror similar to the one in the Canterlot castle? Judging by the sparks jumping to and from each fragment as if to try and peace itself back together, but why was there a second, or which one came first? Why was this one so hidden and the other so available? She had to find out, she had to repair it and enter it, with the assistance of her friends of coarse. Repair spells was a very basic, but she had never tried to repair a magical object. She tried casting her standard repair spell on the mirror, the spell didn't do anything at first, but then it felt as if the mirror was pulling the magic out of her, the spell was amplified. It eventually got to the point were the mirror forced the spell to become alicorn magic, she was now channeling alicorn magic into the mirror, it didn't take long for the cracks to mend and the mirror to start glowing. The mirror glowed brighter exponentially till it was emitting its own magical essence. This too grew exponentially to the point to were twilight cast a protection spell over herself in fear of the emitting so much energy it would hurt her, which has been known to happen. Unicorns can absorb raw magic, In too high of doses it can have ranging side effects including death. She didn't plan on finding out the side effects personally.
In one flash, the mirror appeared to be reflecting a open field, but she was in a room, why was it reflecting a field? This must have been were the mirror was on the other side. Then the magic that had been expelled was rapidly being ripped back int other mirror, dragging dust, rubble, and anything close to it into the portal including twilight. even with wings she could not fly out of the vacuum, she was rapidly being pulled in she didn't have the choice of deciding when to go in or who she was going in with. She was going in alone and now. In her brief moment of still being in the world she cast a very strong and distinct S.O.S spell. Then she was in a field, not much bigger then the room she had been in surrounded by forest. What was this place, only one way to find out, she had to find civilization. She couldn't wait on help, she would starve by the time a rescue part was assembled if they got the message. She walked into the forest, not knowing were she was going or what was out there.
--Back in Equestria, 4 hours after entry--
Luna had just finished assembling the night sky, she had spent a few hours assembling tonight's sky and was very happy with her work, she made up a few more constellations and used a few constellations she had used in previous nights and just filled in the rest. Once she finished she enjoyed watching over Equestria, since she was the only one still up someone had to. She flew high over Canterlot and flew around enjoying the cool breeze the night brought. She had been flying for 10 minutes when a massive spell that she had mastered on the moon flew by, an SOS spell, although it seemed to be moving very slow and been delayed. That was strange, she said to herself, who would be out this late, and why? She easily tracked the spell back to the old castle and its origin below the castle, escaping the ground must have been the cause for delay. She new immediately what was down there and what might have happened to any poor pony who dared enter this realm. Luna could not tell her sister, her sister would not allow any rescue part or anyone to enter to save whoever went in there. Luna would need to go alone, any alteration within the realm could throw itself and Equestria off. She would enter alone, she knew this realm better then her sister because she created the portal, explored it and left. Her sister didn't even know this thing was here. She immediately teleported back to Canterlot, grabbed survival supplies and stepped threw the portal.
