It was a beautiful day in a small town, inside a small shack in the town, there lived a big family. There was a ruckus going on inside. There was a new addition to the family, but this one was different. A young mare held a small blanket, with what they all thought was an ordinary unicorn filly. She was pink with a purple, cream, and pink mane. The mare named her Cadence, she was so happy to have her another girl. When the mare put her into her bed, she noticed something odd. She took the blanket off the tiny filly, seeing her wings. Pink with purple tips.

“JACKSON!” the mare called.

“What is it?” Jackson asked.

The mare pointed at Cadence’s wings. He was shocked.

“An Alicorn?” Jackson asked.

“I don’t know how that happened.” The mare said.

They looked at Cadence, surprised at her horn and wings. The entire family was surprised. But she was now family, they accepted her as she was.

Years went by and Cadence was now 5. Her parents took her to school for her first day.

“Mom I’m scared.” Cadence whined.

“Don’t worry, you’ll be okay. If anything goes wrong, your sister will be there for you.” The mare said.

“Okay, I’ll go.”

Cadence started walking, then looked back. The mare waved her hoof for her to go on. Cadence kept walking. When she arrived in the schoolyard, she looked at the ponies that had a horn, or wings, or nothing at all. There were no fillies or colts like her.

“HEY LOOK!” a colt called out pointing at Cadence.

They all stopped doing everything that they were doing, staring at Cadence’s wings and horn.

“Uh, hello.” Cadence shyly said.

The ponies said nothing. She kept walking until she ran into a tall scruffy looking stallion.

“Look boys it’s we have ourselves a little freak at school.” The stallion said.

“I’m not a freak!” Cadence yelled.

“Yes you are! What foal would have both wings and a horn?!”

Cadence didn’t say anything. The stallion and his buddies trotted away laughing. Cadence started to cry, there were so many ponies that started laughing at her, calling her a freak. When class started, the laughing quieted down. Cadence sat in the back of the room next to an earth filly that she had never seen before.

“Hello. I’m Gemstone. I love mining for gems at the mine here. What’s your name?” the filly asked.

“My name is Cadence, the freak.” Cadence answered.

“I don’t think that you’re a freak. It is quite interesting that you have both a horn and a pair of wings. I can actually get away with a few things with you."

"What?"

"Nothing. Wait, yeah you heard me wrong. I know how to make the laughing stop."

"YOU DO?!"

"Yeah, meet me at the mine after school. We are going inside and we are going to take the most rarest gem there. Can you help me?"

"YES!"

When class ended, every filly and colt went home, except for the 2 fillies.

"How are we going to find this gem?" Jemstone asked.

"Oh, my sister taught me a spell." Cadance answered.

"CADENCE!" a voice called.

She looked back and saw her sister and parents running towards her.

"Mom? Dad? Joane?" Cadence asked.

"Don't do it!" Joane yelled.

"No way! I want the constant laughing to stop and this is the only way. I'm going to do it and there is nothing you can do to stop me!"

Cadence and Jemstone ran inside.

"Come on; lets follow her." the mare said.

Joane, Jackson and the mare went inside, far behind them.

"Do you know where the gem is?" Cadence asked.

"Yes, it's deep within this mine." Jemstone answered.

The walked deeper and deeper into the mine, until they reached a small room with a small box inside. Cadence picked up the box and handed it to Jemstone.

"It's ours! YES!" Jemstone celebrated.

Then, there was a rumble.

"What was that?" Cadence asked.

The ground started shaking. Cadence and Jemstone looked at each other, and started running.

"Girls, come on!" Jackson called.

They all started running towards the entrance. AH! Somepony screamed.

"Dad!" Cadence yelled.

"Keep running! I'll get out! Go! Go!" Jackson yelled.

Cadence continued running, Jemstone and her made it out just in time, but 3 were missing.

"Mom? Dad? Joane?" Cadence called.

Jemstone and her both looked inside the now destroyed mine.

"MOM! DAD! JOANE! NO!" Cadence cried.

"I'm sorry for your loss Cadence, but there is a good outcome of this."

"How?"

"I got my gem, I got my gem!"

"What?"

"I saw you with your horn and wings, I knew all that I could get away with, when I had you by my side. The gem wasn't for you! It's all mine! Oh and by the way, you are a freak."

Jemstone galloped away with the gem, leaving Cadence there. Tears ran down her face; she lost everything. Cadence laid down and buried her face in her hooves. It wasn't until an elderly stallion saw her crying.

"Hey, what's wrong youngin'? the stallion asked.

Cadence calmed down enough to tell him what had happened.

"It was all my fault!" Cadence hiccuped.

"How?" the stallion asked.

"My so called friend said that she could stop the laughing at school if I listened to her. But, I was wrong to follow her. My parents and my only sister are dead because of me! It's my fault!"

"It's not your fault youngin'."

"No it was! The mine caved in and killed them.!"

"Dear, the mine was old. You and your folks were there at the wrong place at the wrong time. Trust me. Whats' your name?"

"Cadence, the one foal that every pony calls freak."

"I'm bein' honest, I'm not going to do what your so called friend did. You are not a freak, you have a gift, a gift no pony else could receive. You're very special Cadence."

"Thank you."

Cadence jumped up and squeezed the stallion.

"I never got your name." Cadence said.

"My name. Let me tell you that later. I'll take you home." the stallion said.

"Thank you."

Cadence got up and lead the stallion to her home. When they arrived there, all her brothers were there. She went inside, but the stallion stayed out. Cadence was in tears as she told them.

"Mom and Dad are dead?!" one of the brothers said.

"Yes." Cadence cried.

"Finally! Now we can say something we really wanted to say."

"Huh?"

"Cadence you are a freak. we were told to help you out, and now that they are gone. We can say it. GET OUT OF HERE FREAK!"

Her tears fell down worse than ever, she galloped out of the house with her tears falling behind her, the stallion followed her.

"Cadence!" he called.

"You?! Why are you following me?!" Cadence asked.

"I heard what your brothers said to you. Do you have a place to stay?"

"Not anymore."

"You know, I am all alone in my home. How would you like to live with me?"

"I don't know, I only met you today."

"You might not know me, but when you meet my 2 nieces."

"Who are they?"

"I can't tell you."

"Okay, I don't know yet. Could I just get over this death first."

"Sure. If you need a place to stay, my door is always open."

The stallion started to trot away.

"Wait! Where do you live?" Cadence asked.

"Close to the front of the town. The little blue home." the stallion answered.

"Okay."

The stallion continued on his way home. Cadence went back to the collapsed mine to cry. The police had arrived and finished digging for the ponies that were inside. Cadence trotted over to a blue tarp with 3 ponies laying lifelessly on it. They were badly banged up, but they still looked familiar. Her heart had been shattered. She started to cry, as her horn began to glow, forming a heart above it. She used it on herself. The love spell reacted. She trotted up closer to her lifeless mom, giving her a big hug. Cadence did the same for her dad and favorite sibling.

Cadence hiccupped, "I'm sorry. It was all my fault. Please forgive me."

"Ma'am? I'm sorry but you have to leave." an officer pony said.

"Okay." Cadence said.

"Are you family?"

"Yes, sir."

"Do you have a place to stay? Grandparents? Aunts? Uncles?"

Cadence almost said no. But then she remembered about the stallion that offered her a place to stay. She nodded.

"Go home. Tell them what happened. Bring him to the station and he will have to sign some papers." the officer pony said.

"Okay." Cadence said.

She turned around, but was stopped by 2 pony legs in front of her. Cadence looked up, there stood Princess Celestia.

"Hello dear officer, what happened here?" Princess Celestia asked.

"A tragic accident, your highness. 3 ponies were killed and the jewel was stolen." the officer answered.

"Not the jewel. Who would do such a thing?"

"I know who did it!" Cadence said.

"Who did it?" Celestia asked.

"My non friend Jemstone, she has it. She tricked me into taking it, but she ran out with it."

"Go find this filly."

"Yes, your highness." the officer said.

Some of them had left the scene to find Jemstone.

"Are you a Princess?" Celestia asked Cadence.

"No, I'm just a weird filly." Cadence answered.

Celestia looked at her and opened her wings. Her eyes widened, this mare had wings and a horn like her.

"I'm a Princess, so should you?" Celestia said.

"I'm not the only pony with these?" Cadence asked.

"No, my sister Princess Luna has what I have."

Celestia got down on the ground, till she was nose to nose with Cadence.

"Would you like to live in the castle? Princess Niamora Cadanca?" Celestia asked.

"Please, call my Cadence; Princess Cadence." Cadence answered.

Cadence grabbed Celestia, and was returned with a hug. Cadence started to cry.

"I need you to stay with my uncle, he needs some pony to stay with him. He might even teach you how to be a Princess."

"Ok."

"Did you ever notice your flank?"

"Well duh. It's bl..."

"A heart?" Cadence asked.

"It's your special talent; love." Celestia said.

"That spell! The love spell that made me what to hug my parents and sister."

"You made your own spell?"

Cadence nodded.

"That's amazing, but you still need to learn the other 5 elements of becoming a Princess. Let's go on ahead and get you to my uncle." Celestia said.

They both got up and went to Celestia's uncle's home. When they arrived, Celestia knocked on the door.

"Ah, my dear niece." the stallion Cadence met answered.

"I know you!" Cadence said.

"I can see you have my niece Celestia."

"She is now a Princess with us. But she wants to stay with you." Celestia said.

"Really?"

"Yes Uncle Paint."

"Paint?" Cadence asked.

"My name it Pony Paint. But Celestia and her sister Luna call me Uncle Paint." Pony Paint answered.

"Can I call you Uncle Paint?"

"Sure."

Cadence smiled, she had a family. Something that she knew again.

Author's Note

Just to blow ya'lls minds. Cadence's cutie mark, the crystal heart came from that gem that Jemstone wanted to steal. Jemstone later on becomes King Sombra, oooo. Just to blow ya'lls minds. I didn't think about it until one of my brony friends said something about her cutie mark. And in the Crystal Empire episode it said that King Sombra hid the heart. And so then the crystal heart was the gem that Cadence and Jemstone stole. Do you get my point?
