Little Applemondo

Chapter 2 Fluttershy The Animal Caretaker

It was a normal day in Ponyville, it was a little wet due to the storm but it didn't stop anypony from doing whatever it is they were doing. At the moment few ponies roamed the streets but it's early so that's why. Only ponies around are the ones who set up shop and Applejack and her little pup Little Apple, Applemondo.

Applejack was greeted and complemented on her pet, Applejack thanked them but didn't know what to say when they asked what breed it was. She just said, "A dog I think..." and the ponies would stare at her but continue putting up their stocks so they could be bought from others. Little Apple was excited and interested at everything he saw, he even barked with joy at a few ponies and nearly ran off but Applejack kept a close eye on him.

"Should've brought a leash...Oh yeah, we don't have one..." she said to herself.

As the two continued down the street they came across a pink foal with a puffy like mane that looked like cotton candy. She had a big smile on her face and seemed like she could yell out anything in any second. The first thing that caught the pink foals attention was Little Apple, her eyes grew wide and nearly popped out her face and she started hopping around. She also chanted a welcome song that Applejack knew too well not to remember it.

"Who's the new guy?" asked the pink foal.

"This here is Little Apple." said Applejack, "We found him yesterday and he's already part of the family." she said happily.

"Well duh." said the foal, "Why else wouldn't Little Apple be part of the family. What type of pet isn't part of the family? None! That's what." she started rambling about pets and others then suddenly ran off saying she needed to take of something.

Applejack shook her head laughed, "That's Pinkie Pie." she said to Little Apple, "The craziest party pony you'll ever meet." she said.

Little Apple responded with a simple bark and slobbered Applejack's face with his tongue, Applejack couldn't help but to squirm as her pup licked her face all over. Once they had their fun they continued along the road and eventually down a path that lead into the forest where another young mare lives in. Nopony knows how she got here but she's never really come out to be social, the foal was known as Fluttershy. She was extremely shy but when it came to animals she acted differently, in no time she became Ponyville's best animal caretaker, far surpassing a vet's expertise and so young too.

From what she's told other ponies, she understands them in a different way. She can actually understand what they say but not completely, there have been a few incidents where she would get the wrong message and tell them the wrong thing. Only once has she told a vet she needed a flu shot when really she needed a antibiotic shot for a sick bunny. Luckily the poor bunny lived but it was a scary moment for her. She couldn't stop crying and thought she killed the bunny after a few days the bunny got better and she finally calmed down. Convenient enough, Applejack was there for her the time, never did she leave her site no matter what the cause or what they were told.

Fluttershy has been in dept to Applejack ever since, even though Applejack has told it was no problem Fluttershy coudln't let it go. She always told her whatever she needed help with she would drop whatever it is she was doing and help. Guess this were the dept pays off finally for Fluttesrhy.

As Applejack continued down the path she came up to a cottage surrounded bird houses, bunny dins and many other homes for animals. The place was alive with animal activity as well, bird flew around and chirped happily while bunnies hopped around with a few carrots in their arms or mouths. Little Apple wanted to join them but they all seemed frightened by his presence, this saddened him and sank down and moped quickly.

"Don't worry Little Apple." said Applejack, "You're new so of course some will be scared."

Little Apple only nodded his head but didn't bark or anything, Applejack patted his head but it did nothing to help him. She sighed and knocked on the door, it took a while but door open and small filly was at the door, she had a pink mane long enough to cover one of her eyes, her coat was bright smooth yellow with butterflies on her flank. Her bright blue eyes widened when she noticed it was Applejack.

"Oh, hello Applejack." said the shy mare, "What brings you here?"

Applejack grabbed Little Apple and presented him to her, "This here is Little Apple." she said, "I was wondering if you could help identify what type of dog he is."

Fluttershy stared at the little pup and smiled, "That's not a dog, it's a wolf." she said.

"Come again?" said Applejack.

"Little Apple isn't a dog, he's a wolf. They are similar in a few ways but wolves live in the forest." explained Fluttershy.

"If that's so then why was he left on my porch last night with a paper that say 'Armondo'?" said Applejack.

"That i'm not sure about to be honest, that's all I can make out from him." said Fluttershy, "He doesn't look like any wolf i'm familiar with." she said.

"So am I supposed to just leave in the forest then?" asked Applejack.

"Goodness no!" pleaded Fluttershy, "If he was left for you to take care of then you should do so."

"I was going to do that anyway." responded Applejack, "Got any food for this here fella?" she asked.

Fluttershy nodded her head and went into the kitchen, she came back holding a bag of dog in her mouth. She opened the bag and took out a treat. She showed it to Little Apple and placed it on the floor, Applejack put Little Apple down and watched him. Little Apple sniffed around for a little before smelling the treat, he took a bite and immediately devoured it whole. He barked happily demanding another and was giving another.

"Haha he really like its!" said Applejack.

"He does." giggled Fluttershy.

"Oh, I also wanted to see if you can try to talk to him and see what he thinks of my family and everything else." said Applejack.

Fluttershy nodded her head and approached Little Apple, "Hello." she said cheerfully.

Little Apple lifted his up and stared at Fluttershy, "Hi Fluttershy!." he said excitedly.

"He can talk?!" screamed Applejack.

"I guess I can." said Little Apple with a laugh.

Fluttershy was in complete awe, "A...T-talking animal..." she picked him up and held him up, "Please tell me there are more of you!" she pleaded.

"More of what?" asked Little Apple.

"Of your kind!" responded Fluttershy.

"Well too be honest I don't know what I am." said Little Apple, "All I know is that i'm a wolf from what you said."

"So how long have you've been able to talk?" questioned Applejack.

"Um...I'm not sure really." answered Little Apple.

There was a long moment of between the two ponies and the wolf, "Um...Are you mad at me mom?" asked Little Apple nervously.

Applejack raised an eyebrow, "You still consider me mom?" she said, "Why?"

"Cause you took me in and let me sleep with you." Little Apple began to wag his tail, "Plus, I really like the name you gave me."

Applejack couldn't help but smile and tear a little, "That's really good hear..."

"Mom?" said Applemondo, "Can we go home and sleep again? I'm getting a bit tired."

"Oh well I was hoping you could stay here for a little get to meet all of Fluttershy's critters." said Applejack.

"What about you?" questioned Little Apple.

"Well I gotta go do apple bucking." answered Applejack, "I'll come by at the end of the day and pick you up. Sound good?"

He nodded his head, "Ok, you won't forget will you?" he asked.

"Course not. Now you have fun Applemondo." said Applejack.

She left and went back home, Little Apple couldn't help but weep quietly to himself at the absence of his mother.

Fluttershy held him closely and kissed his forehead, "She'll be back don't worry." she said happily.

Little Apple blushed and looked away, "O-ok..." he said quietly.

"Is something wrong?" asked Fluttershy.

He shook his head, "Just a little sad..."

Fluttershy nodded her head and put Little Apple, "You can look around and get to know the others. I gotta take care of a few things. Be careful and don't hurt yourself." she said while leaving the room.

Applemondo nodded his head and began to look around, what will he find, that is up to him. New things are opening up for him but there so much he has yet to find. While he has met Fluttershy and Pinkie he still has not met the others, how will he handle them, only time could tell.
