Rainbow Dash might not be a pony. Her doctor insists that she isn't, and works constantly toward helping her achieve a normal life without ponies. But when she goes to sleep, she wakes up back in Equestria surrounded by her friends who accept her as she is.

Either she's tortured, or she's torturing herself. Every time her doctor tells her to give up, there the ponies are. Every time she's happy, there the doctor is. If she knew which one was real, at least she could be confident in her one choice. It's not a journey of self-discovery; she's not even allowed to go anywhere.
