How I Will Miss You
Chapter One
Load Full StoryNext Chapter“How long do I have?” Oliver Men asked. His face covered in dread of this sudden news. He swore he had beat it, he knew he had beat cancer. He tried so hard, but yet now it was for nothing. For these past two months he had been living life to it’s fullest with his last brush with death, but now this life filled enthusiasm ended. His Doctor frowned, and looked at the report.
“Twelve months. . We might be able to help you again, but the chances are very slim. I am sorry. I suggest you continue to live the same way you have for the last two months. No need to not enjoy these last days. Here, you might be interested in pamphlet.” Doctor Dex. handed over the small booklet. The cover was not comforting to Oliver, as it showed the gates of heaven. In big, almost ethereal words it said “Accepting Death”. The twenty-six-year-old man frowned at this. He didn’t expect to be like this in these years.
As a child he had dreamed of making a change in the world. He had always wanted to be the greatest of all his peers. Which he was, he had aced all of his classes, and left High School with honors. Offers came literally overwhelming amounts to any college he wanted. He had chosen to go to a college by the name of “Tarlington” Which was located in Texas. He was so excited to live the life he dreamed of, but this excitement died as he first learned of his plight.
He was not this sad the first time, no he was the opposite. He forced himself to be better, and fight harder, and harder. It got hard at most times, but he stuck through. He was so excited when he learned that he beat this same disease that had killed his Aunt. But in that hospital room he could not be positive. Hazel eyes filled with tears, and Oliver stood up. Taking the pamphlet, the young man looked at the words over and over again. Those words never changed, and he just stared. Trembling hands kept him at bay from moving on. Doctor Dex. went to pat him on the back, but Oliver denied the touch, walking out of the room.
“Accepting Death.” Oliver read. He tore up the booklet, tossing it in the trash. The once trembling hands, trying to hide their shame in his jacket pockets. As Oliver walked down the hallway, looking around. He was happy on the way here, the walls seemed so blissfully pure, and white, but at this moment, all Oliver could see was the stains on the wall. The dirt, and other things that infected this place of healing. The thought disgusted him, but he kept walking. He didn’t know what to walk to now. There was no future, no hope, nothing that can let him be free from the one thing that plagued his mind. His death had begun to replay in his head, over and over again. He imagined his mother, crying over her son as he slowly withered away. His older brother trying to hold back his tears, as he watched his only “Little Bro” fall into his fate. But even in this imagined scene, Oliver could not see his father there. It was true he had not seen his mom in almost a year, but his father was so distant in his mind, he could not even remember what he looked like. Suddenly Oliver’s thoughts had changed, he realized he didn’t even remember his own Father. Oliver stopped, his hand pressed against the glass door. His memory trying to remember the drunk man’s face, but yet it did not come to him, instead in his head was the color a chestnut brown.
The walk home was longer than it should have been. Oliver’s legs did not seem to want to move.
What was the point of even delaying it? Oliver thought, It will all be for nothing. I am just going to be dead soon. Why not end it now? That’s what I’ll do, I’ll save the pain. Dark thoughts had formed around his mind, as this imagined death scene he had, had changed to a thought of a noose. A gun also came to mind, but as he went to open his apartment door, all of these thoughts stopped. He looked to the apartment door, the numbers “176” seemed to jump out at him as he stared. He opened the door, and looked inside. He had no idea why he was feeling so hesitant, but when he saw the light blue walls of his room, this strange burst of paranoia had faded. Leaving behind nothing but empty thoughts.
So Oliver stood there, with these thoughts of blank nothing. He, for a fleeting moment, felt nothing. His body numb as he looked to the T.V. It was on, and turned to some cartoon channel. Though he knew the characters were saying something, he could not pull himself to hear it. But, as it appeared, it had faded. His mind went towards thoughts, no longer of dark scenarios, but rather of blissful acceptance. He walked over to the top of the fridge, and pulled out a jar. Taking no moment to rethink, he smashed it on the ground. Six Thousand Dollars, and fifty seven cents fell onto the ground. Mostly in one twenty, and five dollars bills. A little less fifties, and one dollar bills, and even less of the hundred dollar bills. On the top of the mix was a giant pile of pennies, and a few dimes.
Oliver smiled to the pile. He knelt down, and took a few of the twenties, and fifties. Shoving them into his pocket, he ran over to his door. “I may die soon, but it’s not going to be regretting. I am going to live this life to the fullest.” Oliver ran out of the door. He had saved up this money to originally pay for the rest of his college days, but that meant nothing now. He was determined to live life to the fullest he could. He slid down the stairs, and landed, running as fast as he could. He stopped, and hit himself on the forehead.
Silly me forgot to lock the door.
Oliver was chubby, and tall. His height reaching six foot two inches, and he had a light blue hoody. The sleeves were slightly too long, but the human wore it anyways. His jeans were not baggy, but not tight either. They had a small sag, as it was obvious the pants had been for a larger him. His head still short of hair, only having a small, almost buzzcut length.
The ponies seemed to confuse the Human as well. There was three in total. One seemed to be normal enough. Well as normal as a cartoon pony can get, her mane was really curly and fluffy. Her blue eyes glistening as he held tightly on the purple one. Wait, the purple pony had a horn, she was a unicorn? Her mane was normal enough, but still had an almost unnatural magenta and purple color scheme. Behind her, little wings poofed, which made Oliver jump back in surprise. Landing on the ground, and dropping his flashlight club. A grey pegasus moved closer, her stare was wall like as she seemed to have a lazy eye. On her back was two wings as well, but she didn’t seem to be with a horn.
“You ok?” The Grey Mare asked, she had a yellow mane and a- Does she have bubbles on her leg? Oliver suddenly freaked, looking at her, and crawling back more.
“Did you just talk?” Oliver exclaimed. Half questioning, and half wondering how a animal could speak. The magenta pony had the same reaction.
“And you can speak? Our language?” The magenta pony stood up, lifting a hoof as she looked around. The Pink pony just giggling and hopped up. She seemed to not take this situation as serious as she should of. Oliver stood up, and took a deep breath.
“It’s ok, you just hallucinating. They can’t be real, it is just the. . . . Thing getting at you. Yeah, that’s it, you're in some form of shock.” Oliver looked down to the ponies, who were getting closer to him. The Purple pony looking towards this new creature. He looked like those things she saw past the portal, but yet he seemed, different. His skin was a shade of pinkish brown, which struck her as odd. That is not a coat color she has seen before on any pony. She neared closer, but Oliver backed farther away from her.
“Well this is awkward, I apologize. My name is Twilight, Twilight Sparkle, and your name is?”
