Chapters Chapter One: Part One: Room Mate~
Octavia prodded the ground with her hoof, all the other fillies and colts were playing different games like tag or hide n' seek. She had no one to play with, then again how could she. She's never been to Canterlot in her life, therefore making it improbable to even know anyone here. She just wanted to go back to Baltimare and be with her friends, but that couldn't happen. Her only friend is her own shadow which was only created by the afternoon sun. She sighed.
"What are you doing?" Said an unfamiliar voice.
Octavia looked up to find a small unicorn filly standing over her.
"Absolutely nothing." Octavia Solemnly answered.
"You sound funny!" Said the unknown foal.
Octavia stood up and looked the filly in the eyes, which shimmered yellow.
"I do not!" Said Octavia flustered.
"Do too!" teased the stranger once again.
Octavia let out a growl before slumping back down. "Oh, nevermind."
"What's your name?" Asked the yellow eyed, seafoam green filly.
"Octavia." Said once again, in a solemn tone.
"Cool! My name is Lyra! Lyra Heartstrings for....long."
Octavia perked her ears up. Was this quirky filly trying to be her friend? If so, why?
"Wanna be friends?" Asked the filly.
"Friends with me?" Octavia said pointing towards her own chest.
"Yes, silly!" Said Lyra Giggling.
For the first time in days, Octavia smiled.
~Fifteen Years Later~
Octavia opened her eyes weakly. She looked to the right of her bed to find sunlight peeking through her dark violet curtains. She said.
"Alright, alright Celestia, I'm up!" She said to herself as she crawled out of the covers and walked over to the bathroom. She did her usual routine that morning. Get up, brush her teeth, bath, eat breakfast, and went to practice with Lyra, her best friend. This morning however was diverse from the others. She tied her signature bow tie around her neck and opened the door just to be greeted by a stranger.
"Uh, 'sup, I was her 'bout your 'Room for Rent' sign out here and I was just wanting to know how many bits monthly." Said a strange mare standing on her porch.
Octavia nearly forgot about that sign. She sized up the mare. She had a sleek, pale body with a light blue-themed dual colored mane like Lyra's only longer and more spiked at the end. She also wore violet shades that were guided by a black and grey rim, though she couldn't see her eye color due to the glass in her shades being too opaque.
"Uh, lady? Please stop staring at me like that." Said the mare.
Octavia shake her head. "Oh right, my apologies, come in." Octavia apologized, gesturing her to come in.
"Alright." The mare agreed.
Octavia guided her to the living room, which is fitted with two arm chairs, one love seat, a couch, and a glass coffee table in the middle, along with a fireplace fitted in the wall made from darkened bricks to fit the mood of the room. The mare sat plopped down on the loveseat.
"So about the price-" She began, but was cut off by Octavia who sat properly down with a try of assorted danish bagels and hot sweetened tea.
"The priced monthly is about fifty bits per month which would ultimately equal up to six-hundred bits per year, are you interested?" Asked the grey mare.
"Uh, yeah-" Agreed the pale mare.
"But before we have a deal I need to know more about you." Said Octavia smiled slightly. "Agreed?"
"Oh yeah, totally." Said the mare putting her shades on her hair revealing dark purple eyes.
"The name's Vinyl Scratch, I'mma freelance DJ and I love to party. I've been kicked out of my home and now I've been lookin' for a new one. My favorite colors are blue and purple and I like Key Lime Pie! So is that enough?"
Octavia pondered on the subject. She was clearly the opposite of herself but she also dabbles in music as well. It would be a fun experience, but a hard time on Octavia as well. She made her decision.
"Sure bu-"
"Epic! Here's six months pay! Now where do I sleep...?" She said throwing a heavy bag of bits on her lap.
Octavia looked over her shoulder watching Vinyl Scratch walk down the hallway opening doors. She began to look into the bag of bits thrown at her.
"Three hundred twenty-one bits." She said in awe. Octavia was having money problems and this was a big help.
Octavia heard jingling from the other side of the front door and the door opened slowly. Lyra walked in with groceries.
"Oh hey, you're awake. What's up?" She asked going to the kitchen.
"Oh nothing, we get the spare room rented out." Octavia said.
"Really? To whom?" Lyra asked, intrigued
"Some DJ, go say hello, she's in the spare room." Octavia answered as she sipped her tea
"Alright" Said Lyra as she walked down the narrow hallway where most of the rooms were.
Octavia took another sip of her tea before jumping out of her seat due to a loud noise coming from the spare from followed by Lyra cursing out the new mare. Octavia got up and rushed to the room to find a dumbfounded look on Vinyl's face as she levitated a saucepan and Lyra with a pained look on her face, holding her head.
"Tell me what's going on here!" Octavia demanded.
Vinyl put down the saucepan. "I thought she was a burglar!"
Lyra looked up and yelled. "OH, BULL SHI-"
Octavia cut off Lyra. "Enough! Not even five minutes of you living here, and you getting home, and there's already problems!"
Vinyl looked away and mumbled. "she started it"
Lyra looked up with a look of anger. "You hit me with a damned saucepan and I started it?!"
"ENOUGH!"

Chapter One: Part Two: The Mare Who Sat In The Third Row~
Octavia stopped in front of the building. It took her one year practicing the cello to receive her cutie mark, four years after that to get into The University for Gifted Musicians. She took a breath, and pushed open the double doors that led to the interior of the university. She was immediately greeted with a marble-styled lobby with a dark color scheme. She studied the area. The room was fitted with a marble receptionist booth and two hallways on both left and right sides of the lobby. After she was done she nervously approached the booth in which an aged stallion sat there reading a book and chewing gum. There were an assortment of regular items you would suspect there. A phone fit with an answering machine, a few stacks of paper, some knick knacks, and a stapler.
"Er, h-hello, I'm-" The young mare started but was quickly cut off by the stallion.
"Octavia, your late, hallway A, room one-ten." He said without even looking up at her.
"Er, alright, thank you, sir." She said, taking the hallway on the left.
She walked down the narrow hallway slowly, trying not to miss anything important. Each door had a blue plastic plate with its room number scrawled in white in the center of the plate. Finally she reached room one-ten and opened the door cautiously trying not to interrupt anything. It worked because the professor there, an elderly stallion, was still going on about combining quarter notes and half notes together or something like that. Octavia could see why everyone was bored due to the fact that this was basic knowledge, but hey, what can you do!
She bolted silently for the first empty seat, which happen to be the last one on the far right in the second row. She scanned the room to find someone she recognized. A young seafoam green mare staring at her with yellow eyes smiling widely. Octavia smiled back. It looked like this year was going to be grand, but something caught her eye. She turned her head to see a white mare with magenta eyes. She had a set of purple shades with black and grey rims.
~Ten Years Later~
Octavia opened her eyes once more, she felt as if this morning happened, but didn't at the same time. She sat up and walked did her usual morning routine. She opened her bedroom door to be greeted with a loud electronic vibration that surged through the house continuously causing Octavia to stagger. She hugged the wall to keep her stability as what she identified as 'music' began to grow in decibels. She finally identified the source to be Vinyl's room and she made a lunge towards the door to find Vinyl relaxing on her bed, while a giant speaker system boomed only a few feet away from her.
Octavia tried to speak but her voice was drowned out by the strange ensemble. "Vinyl! Turn it down!!!" No response.
Lyra followed behind Octavia and lunged towards the speaker set, managing to hit the power button, which silenced the room. Vinyl sat up startled, removing her shades and throwing them to the side of her bed.
"Hey, what the hell! You killed the wubs!" Vinyl Complained.
"Your wubs , nearly killed us!" Lyra said in protest.
Octavia sighed. "Listen, Vinyl, next time, use headphones!"
Vinyl nodded in agreement as she put on a pair of wireless headphones. Her music played through the room, but at a tolerable level to Lyra and Octavia.
Lyra pointed to Vinyl who resumed her previous activity. "How is she not deaf?!" She asked rhetorically in disbelief.
Octavia shrugged as she made her way towards the bathroom to shower. The whole time showering though she thought about something that wouldn't leave her mind. Why did Vinyl looks so similar to one of her childhood friends? Was she her friend? Did Vinyl know more than she was letting on, or was Octavia's imagination getting the better of her? Either way, she definitely looks familiar. Octavia face-hoofed. This was going to bug her for the rest of the day...
Chapter One: Part Three: Forming The Band~
Octavia opened her eyes, this morning was different. She woke up on the couch, covered in a small white blanket. She looked around, pitch black. She reached her hoof out for the table and turned on a lantern. She searched the wall for the clock. She sighed as she sat up, it was Three in the morning. She stood up and walked over to her room. Before she opened the door she noticed a dim light creep a few inches from underneath the door. She opened her door to see Vinyl, sitting on her bed with her shades off, staring at what seems to be a yearbook.
"Can I help you Vinyl?" Octavia asked.
"Yeah you can Octavia. Do you remember that school you went to as a young mare." She asked smiling.
"Yeah, University for Gifted Musicians" She answered, smiling at the memories.
"So do I, I also remember sitting in the row behind you." Vinyl replied with a slight grin.
Octavia was surprised but at the same time ecstatic, she knew Vinyl looked familiar.
"Yeah I remember you!"
~Ten Years Ago~
Octavia walked away from the cafeteria, pleased with her meal. She made her way to her locker, putting the textbook she needed in her saddlebag, and trotted off to her fourth hour class. As she walked, she studied the various decor on the walls with great interest. She's been at her new school for nearly three months now and its been rather enjoyable. She had Lyra for five of her classes and strangely, that white mare in all seven of them. She always wondered who she was, what instrument she plays, her name, etcetera, etcetera but never found the courage to go ask her due to her shyness.
Wham!
Octavia came tumbling down due to the unknown source that hit her. She let her eyes adjust before looking up to see what crashed into her. There she was, the pale white mare sitting there in the same state of confusion and shock she was in. Finally the white mare stared up at Octavia and they locked eyes. Octavia blushed wildly and looked around.
"Uh, s-s-sorry about that!" She apologized.
The white mare said nothing as Octavia picked up the books that were scattered around them finally the mare stood up and held out her hoof. octavia stared at her for three brief seconds before accepting the help. She extended her hoof and was pulled up with little to no effort by the white mare.
"Thank you, um..." Octavia stopped due to the lack of knowledge that held the mare's name.
"Vinyl" She said in a scratchy, yet, smooth voice.
"Well I'm off to class, I'll see you later." Octavia said putting her books in her saddlebag and rushing off to class.
~Ten Years Later~
"Yeah I remember that! I also remember how we used to hang out everyday a few weeks after that! God what happened to that?!" Octavia gushed over the memories as her child friend flinched.
"Well, I had to move, and I assumed you slowly forgot about me due to the fact that you had five more years there and your memory of me surely faded." Vinyl answered with her ears folded down.
Octavia frowned before sighing. "I'm sorry, Vinyl. I didn't mean to...."
Vinyl opened her mouth to say something, but quickly shut it. She looked Octavia then began to speak. "But hey! We're roommates now! So don't sweat it, I'm seeing a lot of years together you and I!" Vinyl said wrapping one of her arms around Octavia's shoulder, causing her to blush.
"Well, Vinyl I'm going to get some sleep okay." Octavia said heading for the door.
"Aight" Vinyl said smirking.
Octavia stopped in her footsteps and turned around when she was greeted by a chuckling Vinyl. Finally, something in Octavia clicked.
"Wait! This is my room!" Octavia told Vinyl, laughing a bit herself.
~
Octavia woke the next morning to hear Vinyl and Lyra's voices being her from the living room. They sounded excited and they kept mentioning Octavia's name, but she ignored it until she was ready for the day. After her shower, she walked into the living room and found Vinyl's DJing equipment and Lyra's Lyre in the living room.
"What's going on?" Asked Octavia curiously.
Lyra was the first to speak. "Octavia, you have got to listen to this! I think Vinyl can step up our game!"
Octavia looked at Vinyl who was at a set of portable turntables, and then to Lyra. "How so?"
"Just listen." Said Lyra. "Kick it, Vinyl!"
Vinyl then proceeded to pull out a vinyl record and spin it on her left hoof before placing it perfectly. She then turned up about four sliders before Lyra began playing a somewhat simple beat followed by a simple beat from Vinyl which sounded rather muffled, but Octavia thought that was the point. Sooner or later, Lyra's lyre began to pick up in speed while Vinyl created a huge ensemble that sounded like what she was listening to two days ago. They both matched up and synced together while they both played more and more aggressively. They finally stopped.
"So, what do you think?" Lyra said.
"I thought it was epic." Said Vinyl.
"No not you! Octavia!"
Octavia was still rather shocked. She never really like electronic music but that actually sounded pretty damn good! "I actually thought it was amazing!"
Vinyl smiled. "Well it won't get any better unless we make a triangle!" Vinyl said.
Lyra looked at Octavia and smiled. "So, you wanna pull out that cello or what?"
Chapter Two: Part One: Heart Mender~
"Come on, Tavi pleeeeease?!" Vinyl Begged.
"For the last time you two, no!" Octavia said, reluctantly.
"But why?!" Lyra asked.
"Because it will screw up everything we worked for Lyra! We have a reputation! We can't afford to muddle it up!" Octavia answered, but Lyra failed to see Octavia as the voice of reason.
"But if Vinyl joins we can spice things up! It's a perfect plan!" Lyra pleaded.
"No " Octavia said looking away.
Lyra always had a slight anger problem when certain things didn't go her way. It wasn't a bad thing, usually it consisted off 'I'm going to my room and I'll never come out!' type thing, but this time was different. She knew it would be the best thing for the group right now due to their inactivity but Octavia had a say in it too.
Lyra snapped. She proceeded to put on her black hoodie and packed a suit case. Octavia watched her, confused. "What are you doing?"
Lyra stopped and turned around with an emotionless stare. "I'm leaving..." She answered solemnly. Waiting a few seconds before resuming her task.
Octavia began. "Lyra, I-" but before she was finished, Lyra was already out the front door. Silence rang through the house as both the cellist and the DJ sat in the living room. Vinyl opened her mouth as if to say something but quickly shut it as tears began to stream down Octavia's face.
Vinyl was speechless. Was it because of her, things were going the way they were? Or was the friendship between Lyra and Octavia dying as it was. Either way Vinyl felt a strange sensation out of all of this. That her days here were numbered, but while she was still there, she would try here damnedest to heal the grey mare's heart.
Vinyl spoke up. "Tavi?"
No response.
"I know you're probably mad at me for what happened but I just want to let you know that I'm here for you if you need me, or I'm not if you don't want me here."
Still no response.
Vinyl sighed before hearing a quiet mumble come from her foreign friend. "It's not you Vinyl"
"What?" Vinyl asked.
"I said it's not you Vinyl, it's me. Before you came here Lyra and I were getting into countless arguments about trivial things like food and songs we were writing, and I must admit I overreacted today and I'm so, so sorry Vinyl. You didn't have to see that, nor it shouldn't have happened..." Octavia said, voice cracking.
Vinyl walked over to her and sat next to her. The two locked eyes, a blush beginning to form on Octavia's face as Vinyl began to hold her tightly.
"You still got me." Vinyl said, smiling.
They sat there, in each others arms for what seemed like an hour as Vinyl kept thinking about way the situation could have played out, ultimately preventing the current situation, while Octavia thought of Vinyl.
The sun shined through the curtains of the living room as she awoke on top of Vinyl. She got up quickly, managing to not wake the sleeping DJ and held her nose. She quickly calmed down when she came to the conclusion that they fell asleep hugging. She stood up, performed her daily rituals and then made breakfast. The only thing new was the crack in her heart and her MIA friend. She sighed as the DJ sat up wiping drool off of her chin.
"What I miss?" Vinyl said in a daze.
"Oh, nothing. You hungry?" Octavia asked, stirring a pan full of vegetables.
"What? No breaky?" Asked Vinyl.
"Well it is two in the afternoon!" Octavia answered.
"Oh, right, we stayed up late last night." Vinyl said.
"Indeed we did. Oh and Vinyl?" said Octavia calling the attention of the DJ making her way to the bathroom.
"Eeyup?"
"Thank you." Octavia said with a warm smile that could melt anything from snow and ice to a heart.
"No probs, Tavi." She said smiling back before taking her shower.
The following night Vinyl and Octavia bonded as friends by listening to music, watching TV, playing video games, and talking all night. They turned out to be very compatible, aside from the obvious diverse likes and dislikes. They spent days together and days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. Finally its been one full year since Lyra walked out and Octavia and Vinyl have become best friends, but aside their greatest attempts they couldn't find Lyra anywhere! They looked for her all over Canterlot and no one has heard from her in months. They gave up the search and assumed she moved. Octavia promised herself that one day she'll find her. One day, she'll see her best friend again.
But one thing she didn't know, was that her best friend was only half a day's time away and with someone else.

Chapter Two: Part Two: Lyre & The Candy Bowl~
Lyra woke up on the couch. She looked around the room. Same old place, same old livingroom. She looked towards the window which was emitting sunlight through the dense dark blue curtains. She stood up and walked outside, lighting a cigarette on her way out.
Something wrapped its arms around Lyra lovingly from behind and spoke. "You know, you're gonna get cancer if you don't quit."
Lyra smiled. "Yeah I know, but I can't stop Bon Bon. It's not that easy, and those electronic cigs are so irritating!"
Bon Bon rolled her eyes. "Your quitting right after that one!"
"But-" Lyra began but was quickly cut off by Bon Bon.
"Quitting!" She repeated, irritably.
"Ugh, fine..." Lyra agreed begrudgingly, throwing the cigarette down and putting it out with a stomp of a hoof.
They proceed inside and Bon Bon started cooking breakfast, while Lyra got ready for work. Bon Bon set down a stack of pancakes and yelled. "Come an' get it!" at the top of her lungs.
Lyra bolted to the kitchen and levitated three of them onto a clean, medium sized plate. She then wolf them down and ran towards the door.
Before leaving however, she gave Bon Bon a brief kiss and ran out with a quick 'bye I love you!'
The house grown quiet, of course Bon Bon was used to it due to the fact that Ponyville usually is. The place isn't too quiet but isn't too loud. It isn't too small, but isn't too large as well. In short terms it was like paradise in a nutshell. Bon Bon began her usual cleaning routine before getting ready for her job as well. She owned the local candy store just one block away from her quaint two story house.
When Bon Bon found lyra, she was playing the lyre for money and wearing a black hoodie. She had a suitcase behind her and a tin cup to hold the money in. Bon Bon walked over to her and began to talk to her, before she knew it they had a sort of special connection. Before long Lyra was staying in the guest bedroom. Six months later, Lyra was sharing a bed with Bon Bon. The two had feeling for each other the day they met but until recently, expressed it.
The day went off without a hitch. Lyra made a lot of money playing and Bon Bon made over thirty-two sales. Both of them gathering over five hundred bits! They both sat on the couch counting the bits on the coffee table parallel to it.
"Well, miss Heartstrings." Bon Bon began. "You wanna go grocery shopping?" She smiled.
"Hell yeah I do! I'm starving!" Lyra agreed, jumping up and heading out the door. She opened when she heard an amused Bon Bon call her name.
"We're going together Lyra!" She said smirking.
"Oh, right, sorry, hehe." Lyra apologized which was followed by a nervous laugh.
Three minutes later, they were out of the door and browsing the markets stalls. They picked out many necessities and then went to Sugar Cube Corner for ice cream. The place that surprisingly hadn't knocked Bon Bon's business over. The day was played out perfectly.
Once the moon began to rise, shoving the sun off of it's throne for a good twelve hours, they sat at a park and stared at the moon on a park bench. Lyra was slouched over and Bon Bon was laying down on it. They talked about life, music, jobs, and Lyra quitting smoking, which Lyra didn't mind at all due to the fact that she's been meaning to quit and the only reason she started was because of the....incident.
That night they walked home and crawled into bed. Letting time fly as they lost consciousness somewhere in the soft silk sheets of the king-sized bed they were currently occupying.
The morning came in what felt like a matter of ten minutes but she knew otherwise. She sat up, pull out a cigarette from the cartridge before putting it too her mouth and lighting it with her magic, she stopped.
"Right, I'm s'posed to quit." She said to herself, silently as she threw the box of cigarettes into the trash.
It wasn't as easy as she played it out to be. Bon Bon didn't know about the feeling, just the facts. Whenever you're irritated, you want to smoke, whenever you're happy, you want to smoke, whenever you want to smoke, you want to smoke! Its taking everything that Lyra has in her to stop. It may be hard but she could pull it off in a matter of months.
The following days left Lyra grouchy due to the lack of nicotine in her system but Bon Bon got her a punching bag so she could take out any unreasonable anger out on it. It feels like she mutilated it three times a day, or maybe it's because she died. She even burned it sometimes. She also resulted in learning new things like spells and Equestrian history. One spell she used in particular to prank individual was a sleep spell.
One day Lyra and Bon Bon were cuddling on the couch watching TV when they heard a knock on the door. Lyra walked sluggishly to the door and opened it. It was Ditzy Doo, the local mailmare. For some reason it went from a pleasent conversation about mail to an argument about muffins and finally, Lyra just waved her hoof across Ditzy's face and Ditzy fell down, unconscious. Lyra closed the door, unwrapping a letter that may or may not be important.
"Who's it from and will Ditzy be alright?" Bon Bon asked curiosity splotched with concern.
"Oh, yeah she'll be fine, she's just sleeping. I say she'll wake up in ten minutes. Oh and it's just my pay check." Lyra said smiling.
Lyra sat down next Bon Bon, cuddling up against her, and opening her pay check. Her eyes widened at the amount, jaw nearly unhinging.
"What? What's the matter?" Bon Bon said, which gained no response, so she leaned close to read the amount she got paid.
Bon Bon's eyes widened in awe. On the paper, it said two thousand bits. Lyra launched herself off the couch and ran out the door. Bon Bon Followed. They both charged to the local bank. There, they came out happy with a heavy amount of bits in their saddlebags and a sigh of relief that the check didn't bounce.
They trotted home, after ice cream of course and went to sleep.
Lyra awoken to hear the Ponyville Express. 'It hasn't visited in months and now it's here?!' Lyra thought as she walked over to look out the second story window to their house. The platform was desolate of life. Not a single soul can be found. The last time the Express visited was when Lyra first came to Ponyville. Her curiosity grew at every waking moment the train sat there in the early hours of the morning. She wanted to know who was visiting or moving here. It took fifteen minutes before any commotion was sighted.
Lyra's heart sank when a white unicorn with a blue themed mane and purple shades stepped off, followed by a grey mare with her signature bowtie. She looked away from the window and sat down on the floor sighing.
"I could really use a cig right now"
Chapter Three: Part One: Grocery Shopping~
"I'm not doing this." Octavia said.
"Why not?! This is our chance to become closer !" Vinyl replied, giggling.
"I'm not going to share a bed with a mare who doesn't even shower before bed." Octavia said, folding her arms and sitting down on her new couch.
"Hey! I shower. In the morning." Vinyl admitted.
Octavia rolled her eyes, getting up and making her way upstairs to where a bathroom and a room rested at the top of the stairs. She walked to the door closest to her. She opened it.
The bathroom was a light blue scheme. The shower was a reasonably large size with glass walls. The toilet was classically positioned by the sink which was built in the wall, lacking any sort of cabinet below. The mirror was styled with a silver elegant lining and the floor was white marble. Octavia smiled, closing the door, trotting to the other door.
Octavia opened the door and flipped the light switch. Her jaw dropped.
An exquisite king-sized bed with a black wood bed frame, red silk sheets, and two pre-fluffed pillows with pillowcases matching the sheets. Octavia then noticed the lighting, it was low, like candle-light dinner low. The room had red wallpaper with a intricate bronze design. Octavia took three steps further into the room. Two nightstands made from blackwood had two identical lamps on each side. Behind her, on each side of the door had two identical dressers, both made from blackwood. The carpet was, as you would have guessed it, a dark red color scheme.
Octavia felt two hooves slipping over her shoulders and around her neck. "Well, this room is romantic." Said Vinyl, jokingly.
"Knock it off Vinyl!" Octavia shoved Vinyl off her, walking out the door and down the stairs, Vinyl following closely behind.
"Hey Tavi, gimme some bits." Vinyl demanded.
"Why?"
"I'm gonna go grocery shopping." Vinyl said.
They reached the bottom of the stairs. Octavia grabbed a bag of bits from her saddlebag and tossed it to Vinyl. Vinyl made her way out the door. She took two steps outside and looked around. It's been an hour since the duo moved to Ponyville and Vinyl already knew that this place was going to be the best place she probably ever lived.
~
Lyra sat in her room in the corner. She didn't want to know what was going to happen next. She never thought she was going to see them again.
tch tch
Lyra lit up a cigarette and put it too her mouth, inhaling the fumes before choking and throwing the cigarette down, stomping on it. She let the puff of smoke release from her nose. The door handle turned as Bon Bon emerged from the door.
"Still sad? What's wrong hun?" Bon Bon asked, concerned.
"Remember when I told you I moved away from my home town?" Lyra began.
Bon Bon nodded.
"I lied."
Bon Bon leaned in closer, now interested.
"I moved away from my roommates. I had a crush on one of them and well, I fucked up our friendship over a little argument and walked out. I walked out because I didn't have my way and I was scared of coming back because I thought I wouldn't be able to come back. So I came here and well, found the best thing that ever happened to me-" Lyra smiled, holding Bon Bon's hoof. "-But now my past has come to haunt me, my former roommates are here in Ponyville for some reason, and I'm too damn scared to go and talk to them, you know, catch up n' stuff." Lyra confessed.
Bon Bon just sat there. "Oh, um, well you should um-" Bon Bon was stumped.
Bon Bon locked eyes with Lyra, biting her lip. "How about....you go and get the groceries and I'll give you a treat once you get back." Bon Bon smiled seductively.
Lyra looked up and giggled slightly. "Yeah, alright, sure."
No less than twenty minutes later, Lyra was out of the door with her black hoodie on, along with her saddlebags containing a water bottle and a pouch full of bits. She started off with fruits and vegetables, then continued on buying dairy and some sweets for later.
Lyra walked back to her home, looking at the contents of her saddlebags to make sure she didn't anything before-
WHAM!
Lyra fell flat on her flank, her vision blurred.
"Ugh, sorry about that, ow." Lyra said, rubbing her arm.
"S'all good." Said a familiar voice.
Lyra's vision readjusted. She looked up at who collided with her. Her jaw dropped.
"How's it hangin' Lyra." Said a familiar DJ pony.
Lyra tried to speak but only a whimper came out.
"Well, it was nice seein' ya' Lyra, have a good day." Said the marshmallow mare, trotting off.
"whu-" Lyra whimpered, still dumbfounded by the encounter. She knew she was going to run into one of them, or if she was lucky she wasn't going to.
She trotted back home, thinking about the collision with her old friend. Her house was became visible and she smiled slightly, she finally made it.
~
"YOU SAW WHO?!" Octavia exclaimed.
"Tavi, this is like the third time I told you this. I saw Lyra and trust me, the look on her face. Priceless ." Vinyl said, giggling.
"Did she say anything about me?" Octavia asked frantically.
"She didn't say anything at all, actually, she just kept saying 'whu'."
Octavia slouched on the couch she was sitting on, she sighed. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, but she also didn't want to. What if she saw Lyra herself? What if Vinyl's just lying?
She shutdown. Unable to speak, lost in thought. Vinyl tried to grab her attention but it slipped from her grasp.
"Pfft, great, now you're like Lyra." Vinyl said, rolling her eyes.
~
Lyra plopped down on the bed, Bon Bon followed, landing on top of the seafoam green mare. Bon Bon began kissing her neck, going lower and lower, stopping just before reaching Lyra's mare hood and began working her way up. Lyra smiled fakely, still think of the encounter. Bon Bon came back up and kissed Lyra before she noticed how spaced out Lyra was.
"You alright, hun? Bon Bon asked, her question splotched with concern.
"I saw Vinyl today, she was one of my old roommates before I moved." Lyra sighed.
"Oh, what did she say?" Asked Bon Bon, intrigued.
"She just made small talk but I was too surprised to answer so she walked away." Lyra answered rolling her eyes.
Bon Bon held her. "Well, I'm sure everything will go well, now lets get some sleep, cutie." Bon Bon said, making an attempt to reassure her lover.
"Yeah I guess." Lyra said, reaching for the lantern.
~
"Your hoggin' the blankets Tavi." Vinyl uttered, tugging at the soft sheets of the bed.
"I can assure you, that you're the one who is 'hogging' the blankets." Octavia replied.
"Ugh, bullshit." Vinyl mumbled, rolling her eyes.
"Shut it and go to sleep!" Octavia snapped.
Vinyl smirked and yanked the blankets, though Octavia had a firm grip.
"Hey! What the actual hell!" Octavia yelled.
"Shut up and give me the blankets you chuckle fuck!" Vinyl shouted, this time using all of her might to yank the blankets off of Octavia, she succeeded but a grey mare came with the red silk.
Vinyl now had a blushing grey mare on top of her.
"Well, this is a predicament." Vinyl quipped, her cheeks tinted red.
"Well, I guess so." Octavia replied, smirking.
Chapter Three: Part Two: Minds~
Octavia blushed wildly as she scrambled off of Vinyl. Vinyl still remained in the same position, smirking. "Vinyl?" Octavia called to Vinyl.
"Yup?" Vinyl answered.
"Let us never speak of this again." Octavia uttered.
Vinyl's smirk sagged a little. "Um, alright."
Vinyl got up from the bed and walked slowly out of the bedroom. She made her way to the bathroom, closing the door behind her and sliding down the door until her rump hit the marble flooring.
"Oh, 'Tavi, you're so blind." Vinyl said, frustrated.

Lyra awoken to a sweet mare attached to her side, she looked towards her left out the window, sighing as the thought of her old friends still consumed the attention of her logical and emotional portions of her brain. She yawned silently before getting up, trying not to disturb her sleeping beauty. She walked outside, grabbed the newspaper from the steps of her porch and walked back inside. The same, dull things were written on the pages. Weather, sports, action that everyone thinks is intense when really its simply boring. Lyra through the paper in the trash. Before walking outside again, this time, to go to the local park.
She studied her surroundings, the usual style of the buildings stood strong and looking amazing blended in with the natural beauty of Ponyville and it's surroundings. She finally reached the park and sat on the she sat on one of the benches. She thought about many things, but every time she would go down one path of her mind, a roadblock would be set up, with the two names scrawled on them, Vinyl Scratch and Octavia. For the first time ever, Lyra slouched and a mundane expression shot over her face as she moved deeper into the jungles of her mind.
~
Bon Bon opened her eyes to find the soft fur she was cuddling into was gone. She looked around and sighed. "Another walk, I presume." She said, smiling slightly.
Bon Bon made her way down stairs and went into the kitchen to start their breakfast for the morning. They didn't have much planned due to the fact that it was Sunday so no work or post. Bon Bon walked out of the kitchen and into the living room, sitting on the couch in front of TV. She began to get lost in her thought.
Bon Bon always lived in Ponyville, and ultimately never left. She's never been to Canterlot, Manehatten, nor Los Pegasus. She was just a small town girl. As a foal she had great grades in school and never caused trouble, but one day she fell in love with a colt. She remembers his name but for what he's done she chooses not to think about him. As they grew their love did too until finally he made her pregnant. She wasn't full grown so she was forced to give her foal to the orphanage with one request. To name the filly she gave birth too...
-Nine Years ago-
Bon Bon sat in on her hospital bed sobbing, she wanted to keep her filly but she couldn't, she wasn't allowed. She still had to finish school and her love ran out on her when he found out. A stallion entered the room, a white stallion. He approached her and sat next to her.
"I know you want to keep her Bon Bon, but this is for the best." The stallion said.
"I-I know, doctor, but can I at least name her." Bon Bon sobbed.
"Yes you may." The doctor said.
Bon Bon sat lost in thought. She finally came up with one.
"I want to name her, um." Bon Bon paused.
"I want to name her Twist." She confirmed.
-Present-
Bon Bon stood up and wiped her eyes and get up from the couch. She still sees Twist once in a while. She makes candy, just like Bon Bon does.
"You make your mother proud..." Bon Bon though out loud.
"So proud..."
~
Octavia sighed and made her way to the bathroom to talk to Vinyl, but when she opened the door she wasn't there.
"What the-" She said, before she spotted a note on the edge of the sink.
Octavia read the letter out loud:
"Dear Tavi,
I'm taking a walk around town to see what I can find here, see you soon.
Love,
Vinyl
PS
I hope you don't mind but I took the last piece of cherry pie."
"Okay, time to go get Vinyl." She thought out loud.
"Wait?! She took the last piece of pie?!"

Chapter Three: Part Three: Drinking Buddies~
"Well there goes desert." Octavia grumbled as she closed the fridge, making her way to the stove. She grabbed the tea kettle off the top-left burner and poured herself a cup of hot green tea. She turned off the burner and made her way to the living room and sat down on the closest thing to her, in this case the arm chair.
She sipped her tea and sighed. Vinyl has been gone for some time. Three hours to be exact.
"A little long for a walk, eh Vinyl." Octavia chuckled softly.
"I couldn't agree more." Said a familiar voice, causing Octavia to jump out of her chair and spin around.
There stood Lyra.
"Sorry I kinda let myself in. You were warped in your day dreaming."
Octavia opened her mouth as if to say something but the thing that was audible was the silence that had cloaked the room. They stared at each other for what seemed like minutes before Lyra broke the silence.
"Listen Octavia, I'm gon-" Lyra was cut off by Octavia.
"No! No, please! Sit down, make yourself comfortable!" Octavia rushed over to Lyra shoving her into the loveseat.
"Er, alright." Lyra agreed, smiling sheepishly.
Octavia rushed into the kitchen. She grabbed the kettle and began pouring some tea into a small green bisqueware cup before rushing back to Lyra sitting her drink down on the coffee table in front of the loveseat before sitting on next to Lyra.
"So, how have you been?" Asked Lyra.
"Decent, and you?" Octavia Asked.
"I've been-" Lyra was once again interrupted by the front door opened and three mares stumbled in.
"Oct- *hic* Octavia, lookie what I found!" Exclaimed Vinyl, slurring her words.
Vinyl brought home two other mares, one she recognized and one she didn't. These two mares were Bon Bon and Berry Punch.
"Doncha think it's rather funny how a lot of names here *hic* use the alphabet instead of numbers? *hic* Whazzup with that?!" Vinyl exclaimed before falling to the ground, unconscious.
Lyra opened her mouth but quickly shut it. Octavia shook her head.
"Are you guys drunk?" Octavia asked, appalled.
"Eeyup!" Answered Bon Bon.
"You bitches doneven know how ta hold your liquor!" Berry Punch yelled.
"Oh yeah? *hic* Well you're ah whore!" Bon Bon Snapped.
Berry Punch took a few steps back before gasping. "Whatchu jus call *hic* call me?!"
"Whore!" Bon Bon repeated, this time more flamboyant.
Berry Punch growled before swinging, ultimately missing and falling on the floor, rendering herself unconscious.
"Damn." Bon Bon remarked.
"I knocked dem bitches out!" She giggled before falling asleep on the floor next to Vinyl Scratch and Berry Punch.
The was a awkward silence in the air only broken by a snort from Vinyl.
"What the fuck just happened?" Lyra asked.
"I haven't a clue." Octavia replied.
Chapter Four: Part One: Why?~
"Thanks for helping me drag them upstairs Lyra." Octavia thanked Lyra as they made their way back downstairs.
They made their way downstairs and Lyra plopped down on the dark red couch.
"Yeah of course! What are friends for?" She giggled.
An eerie silence met the room as Lyra muttered those last words. Octavia looked down and clenched her teeth.
"Octavia?"
Octavia did nothing.
Lyra finally caught the drift. "I'm sorry."
Octavia looked up. "You're sorry? You left because of a stupid argument!" Octavia bellowed.
"Quiet down! You're gonna wake up the drunkards upstairs! Jeez. I was childish at the time, okay!" She snapped under her breath.
Octavia shook her head and opened the front door. Lyra shook her head and walked upstairs. Octavia stood there, confused, with the door open. after a few moments of silence, Lyra came back down with Bon Bon on her back.
"I had to grab something." Lyra said disgruntled making her way out of the door.
Once Lyra was out of the house, Octavia closed the door and sighed.
"You seem tense." Said an unknown voice.
Octavia's eyes darted around the room until she found the source which turned out to be the strange pony at the top of the staircase Vinyl and Bon Bon brought home. Though she was different from her past state.
"E-excuse me?" Octavia said.
"I said, you seem tense." Repeated Berry Punch.
"I know what you said! I mean why do you say that?" Octavia clarified while Berry Punch made her way down the stairs and sat down on the loveseat. She patted the spot next to her.
Octavia made her way to the couch and sat next to her.
"I say that because you just kicked out your friend you've known since foal hood and her mare friend because you were still angry about something that happened long ago Octavia." Berry elaborated.
Octavia sat in silence realizing what she had done. She looked up as another question shot to mind.
"How do you know what happened? Also, how do you know my name?" Octavia asked.
"We went to the same school as foals." Berry Punch sighed.
"How come I don't remember you?" Octavia asked, once more.
"Listen, Octavia I don't mean to burst your bubble here but I need to leave." Berry Punch got up and made her way to the door.
"Wait! What do I do?" Octavia yelled underneath her breath.
Berry Punch stopped and said without turning around. "Stop asking How, and start asking why." And with that, she was off.
~
Octavia sat in her room for hours that night repeating those same words over and over again in her inner sanctuary. 'stop asking how and start asking why, stop asking how and start asking why, stop asking how and start asking-'
"WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING!" She thought outloud.
Vinyl rolled over and sleepily muttered. "Octavia, quiet down!"
"Sorry." Octavia whispered.
Chapter Four: Part Two: Sickly Octavia~
Octavia threw up once more, her head bobbing and weaving back and forth from her position leaning on the toilet. She looked up to see Vinyl staring at her.
"Yo, Octi'? Y'alright?" Vinyl Scratch asked, a look of concern stretched across her face.
Octavia vomited once more before looking up at her friend, dark circles highlighting her bottom eyelids "Quite." She muttered before vomiting yet again.
"Oh, um, okay." Vinyl replied unsure of her friend's health. "Are you sure? I can get you warm wet towel or a heating pad or-"
"I said I'm fine Vinyl!" Octavia snapped.
Vinyl rose up her hooves and backed away slowly. "'Ight..." She said quietly.
Vinyl walked out of the bathroom worried, she didn't understand what was wrong with her eccentric british friend but now she was snapping at Vinyl for no reason and constantly throwing up.
"Is she sick?" Vinyl muttered to herself. "pfft, most likely."
She trotted down stairs and sat on the couch in the living room, turning on the TV and surfing through the channels slowly to try and catch something good currently on. Nothing on. She turned off the TV and laid on the couch, ultimately drifting to sleep.
She did dream but the whole thing didn't feel like a dream, more like a long thought process in which she would argue with herself on many diverse subjects.
A few hours later, Vinyl's ears echoed with a home phone's blaring ringtone. She tried to ignore it telling herself that Octavia would get it, but then again Octavia is probably bed ridden. She let out an obnoxious groan before getting off the couch and trotting over the the home phone sitting on the kitchen counter.
She levitated the phone up to her ear and greeted whoever was on the other line. "'Sup?"
"Hey, is this Vinyl Scratch by any chance?" A male voice on the other line asked. He sounded familiar but Vinyl couldn't put her finger on it.
"Yeah, I'm the one you're looking for, may I ask to whom am I speaking to?" She asked.
"It's me, Vinyl, Neon!" Neon answered ecstatically.
Memories of her old friend flooded her mind causing her to burst out. "Oh, hey man! How you been? I haven't seen you since we saw each other at the market!" She exclaimed.
"I've been pretty good actually! How about you?" He asked in return.
"Meh, a few things have been going on and Octavia's sick but overall I believe I'm in the green here." Vinyl answered.
"Sweet, hey how about you come down to my place for a bit, we need to talk about something." Neon Lights said.
"Oh, what about?" Vinyl asked.
"You remember how we used to DJ together at that nightclub a few years back?" Neon asked.
"Yeah! Why?" Vinyl asked.
"Well, I have a deal straight from Blue Moon asking me to DJ there, though I could use some help..." Neon hinted at the offer.
"You mean Blue Moon Nightclub in Canterlot? One of the biggest nightclubs in Equestria?!" Vinyl gushed.
"Hell yeah!" Neon exclaimed.
"Sweet! Where's your place?" Vinyl asked eagerly.
"Okay grab a piece of paper and a pen." Neon instructed.
Vinyl levitated a pen and a notepad from a drawer in the kitchen. "Okay, lay it on me Neon."
"Okay so the address is..."
~
Octavia woke up with the stench of vomit on her coat and her head halfway into the toilet. She lifted her head up, shaking it wildly and to rid her nose of the smell. It didn't work.
"Bloody hell, why did I vomit everywhere?" she moaned, wiping her mouth.
Octavia decided to take a shower to rid herself of the smell. After she got out she remembered something.
"Oh I got to apologize to Vinyl!" She told herself.
She rushed downstairs to find the house vacant of life. She searched around the house until she reached the kitchen. There was a small piece of paper with a light blue aura around it. Octavia approached it and read it out loud.
"Dear Octavia,
I went to a friend's to talk about something.
P.S.
Hope your not mad at me for earlier, I'll be home by tonight to take care of you!
Love,
Vinyl"
"Oh okay, she left to see a friend." She set the note down and walked away. She climbed upstairs to go take a nap.
Chapter Two: Part Three: Awkward~
Vinyl tilted her shades down and studied her surroundings. It was a quiet, small town. She inhaled through her nose, letting all the scents from the unknown town.
"I think I might like it here!" Vinyl smiled.
Octavia stepped off the train carrying a cello case. "I hope you do, because it's where we'll reside."
Vinyl smiled before turning around and asking. "So where are we going again?"
Octavia pondered before sighing. "I have no clue, but I'm assuming that we should head to the town hall." Octavia said, gesturing to a large, carousel like building in the center of town, a few blocks away.
Octavia and Vinyl proceeded down the street. They walked through the town market, which was bustling with ponies from a large variety. They continued to walk, keeping to themselves until Vinyl stopped at the sight of somepony familiar.
"Wow, wow, wow, hold up 'Tavi." Vinyl said, gesturing to stop.
Vinyl ran to a stallion with a spiked mane and black shades.
"Well, look who it is, Vinyl Scratch!" Said the unknown pony.
"How's it goin' Neon?" Vinyl asked, hugging the stallion.
"Oh, s'all good, s'all good." Neon replied with a smirk.
The two ponies talked for a while before Vinyl said her goodbyes. Octavia and Vinyl resumed their walk to the town hall. They arrived they were immediately greeted by a tan mare with a pink, wavy mane and tail. She appeared to be stressed.
"Hello, Octavia." She, her voice cracking.
"Hello, Miss Mare! I'm here about buying the suburban two story house!" Octavia cheerily replied.
"Ah, yes, it's a good house in a great area of town, I'm sure you'll love it., that would be seven thousand bits, and I apologize for my appearance, I've been stressed over the lack of respect I get. Now about that house-"
Vinyl cut her off. "You ever think about dying your hair grey?"
"W-what?" Mayor Mare asked, confused.
"Have you ever thought about dying your hair grey?" Repeated the marshmallow mare.
Mayor Mare put her hoof to her chin. "I think I might try that, don't see what good it'll do, though."
After what seemed like an hour's worth of paper work they left for their newly purchased house. The walk was fairly short, about ten minutes. The house's exterior had a similar look to the other houses around the area. Octavia unlocked the wooden door with the key Mayor Mare gave her. The interior was already furnished, which saved them time.
"I think this place is pretty awesome! How many bedrooms we got?" Vinyl asked smiling.
Octavia pulled out a slip of paper containing information about their new residence. Octavia looked up from the paper with a quirky look on her face.
"One."
