It was a day like any other, but a day that I’ll never forget. I had gone off to school saying goodbye to mom and dad, they seemed a bit off but nothing too out of the ordinary. I finished my schoolwork and went cloud kicking with Cloud Crasher at recess, he beat me of course, He always does. Nothing weird nothing strange, all normal as normal can be.

As I was flying home I thought I heard a lot of shouting, sounded like the guards. I wondered who’s house they were at and hoped everypony was safe. As I got closer to home I realized the chatter was getting even louder. I hope no one I knew was in danger. Then it hit me, it might be my house! I began pumping my wings as fast as they would go, all in hopes that my house wasn’t the one in danger; So much for hope.

The guards were looking around my house, lawn, backyard, and I’d imagine on the inside as well. “What happened!?” I yelled at the head guard.

“Somepony has broken into your house, they seemed to be searching for something, were not sure if they found it.” The guard replied stiffly.

“What is that supposed to mean!?”

“Look, the bad ponies may come back and they may hurt you if you’re here alone.”

“Wait… alone? What about my mommy? She stays home during the day.” I was beginning to get really worried.

“We didn’t find anypony in the house. We got a call from the neighbor saying they heard strange sounds coming from your house. We came to investigate and found the place trashed.” This was not good at all; I went into a full blown panic.

“Where’s my mommy!? The bad ponies are doing something to her! Where’s daddy? Why isn’t he here?” I went on ranting until the guard stopped me.

“We tried finding your daddy at work; he seems to have gone missing like mommy.” He noticed the look of terror cross my face, “but we’re sure they’ll turn up soon!” He quickly said before his words took effect on me.

“Can I go inside please?” Was all I had left to say to him.

“If you think you can handle it go ahead, but it is really trashed in there so please don’t push your emotions too far.”

I took no heed to his advice and went inside, what was there made me want to just lay down right there and die. All our furniture was ripped, broken, and splintered across the house. Our pictures just lay broken on the ground wishing they could be rehung. There were hoofprints all over the house that didn’t belong to me, mom, or dad. I saw my room and was shocked, all my toys were shattered, my art and crafts ripped and broken. Just like my spirits were at the time.

Mom and Dad’s room was the worst, everything was moved, tipped over, and broken. There was something out of place though. I looked around the floor and found my mother’s heart necklace was still here. I wonder how the guards missed it. I picked it up and just held it there in my hoof for a long time, wishing that they were alright. I couldn’t help but just lay there and cry, there was no one left who cared for me, none who would watch me and love me the same way they did. I was alone, my world collapsed.

I must’ve fell asleep and awoke later that night, it seemed most of the guards had left except for a few who were here to protect me. I began searching the room again and found something rather peculiar, a filing cabinet, with a note. I had seen this cabinet before, but it had never had a note on it. I picked it up and began to read.

Dear Digi
When you find this you will know that we have gone. (This sounds as if it might clear things up.) We are extremely sorry we could not say goodbye, we were in a very high pressured situation and had to go as soon as we could.

We are fine; we have not been captured or taken by the ponies who invaded the house. (Sounded as if they knew we were going to be broken into today, as well as the fact that she seems to be trying to comfort me, even though the words may not be true.) We both know that this is going to be hard on you and were sorry, but we need to explain some things to you.

(The hoofwriting changes here) You see son, I don’t exactly work for the Cloudsdale Science Facility, I did go there to do experiments and get parts for what my real job was though. I actually worked for the Canterlot’s Government run science branch; I was focused on the invention of a new technology that could revolutionize Equestria!

My orders came directly from Celestia herself. But this job came with risks, your mother was also a scientist that was helping me work with the project, it was nice just having you and your wife changing the world. Eventually your mother decided it was best to stay at home while I would continue the experiments and invention of the machine. (At this I was interested, their job is what may have caused them to flee, so they wouldn’t lose it to the wrong ponies.)

Now today we were told that some suspicious ponies were watching the house, we found out that these ponies were after the invention. So after we sent you to school today, since we knew you’d be safe there, we noticed that there were a lot of ponies loitering around the neighborhood.

We took this as a sign to lock up the invention, its notes, and flee so they couldn’t get the info out of us. (Hoofwriting changes back to Pixelellia’s)

So you see, we left to protect you. If we stayed you could’ve been hurt, and that is something we wouldn’t ever risk. (A tear formed in my eye) We love you Digi, our little spark. (That is all it says)

After letting my heart pour out its sorrow, I returned to the strange filing cabinet. There were two strange lock like mechanisms. One was in the shape of a heart. Then it hit me, the necklace my mom wears wasn’t just an heirloom, it was also a key! I quickly picked the heart off the ground where I’d left it, as I put it near the slot it seemed like the two were meant to be in the same room at this moment. But what of the other key?

It looked like a normal key slot, accept we don’t have any keys that would fit it; it is much bigger slot than a key. I looked around the room hoping to find something that a key could be; when I noticed a feather, a midnight blue feather. It was my father’s! It then occurred to me that maybe the feather maybe the key, but how would it be a key? I snatched the feather up being careful not to bend it in case it was the key. I went over to the cabinet and put the feather in the lock, there was a really strange whirring sound, I jumped back and watched in awe as the two locks turned and then moved off the cabinet, slowly the drawers opened on their own.

What magic was this? What is causing this? I wouldn’t know till much later. After the scary whirring and moving stopped, I trotted over to the cabinet and saw it was full of papers and machine pieces. There was one paper that stood out to me, one that looked more like another letter than a strange drawing or scribble. I picked it up, it was another note, but seemed older like it was waiting for me. It said something I never would of thought I would be able to do.

Dear Digital (this meant business if they used my full name.)
If you’ve found this note that means it is up to you to finish the project, the one we call The Computer.
I dropped the note in shock. I was only about to get out of Elementary school and now they wanted me to build a machine they hadn’t even figured out yet! Talk about extreme! But out of curiosity I kept reading.

We are not sure if or when you’ll get this note, if you are still in school we have provided all the basic lessons you’ll need from Middle School, you will need to attend high school at some point but first let’s get the project underway. (It said some stuff about if I was out of school but I’m not so I skipped it) You’ll need to read our notes and drawings to find out things that the computer was needing as well as how it works and assembles. (Easy for them to say) This is all the help we can offer you unfortunately, were sorry it is so vague. (No kidding. I’m supposed to put the thing together sounds so easy!) We love you, we know you can do it!

“Well it’s nice they have such confidence in me!” I exclaimed. The feeling of slight anger passed quickly as I realized again that I was alone. “Now what will I do?” I questioned knowing no one will have an answer.
