PREH: The monster of hearts and hooves day

I woke up in the command center with my girlfriend, Twilight Sparkle, cuddling next to me. It brought a smile to my face, despite the bad dream I had. Remembering it made my smile disappear.

Twilight and I were standing in the middle of Ponyville, or at least it was. Right now it was a battle royal between all the citizens of Ponyville. And to make matters worse, the other rangers were fighting the crowd, filled with the same hatred and bloodlust that everyone else was. “We have to stop them!” I yelled over the sound of battle.

“OK!” She yelled back. We morphed, and charged towards the fray. I used my Ranger ability to lock the townspeople in shadows, trapping them. Twilight was using diplomacy with lesser success. “Please! Princess Celestia, this isn't you!” In response, Celestia growled and smashed her aside with her glaive, Ignus Solaris. Twilight flew backwards, the rest of the rangers combined their weapons, aimed it at Twilight, and fired.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I screamed, but it was too late, Twilight was blasted by the beam, and vanished.

Twilight stirred, shaking me out of my memories. I forced a smile onto my face. “Hey, have a good sleep?” I asked her. She smiled and snuggled closer to me.

“Always when you're with me.” She said. We shared a kiss before getting out of bed. We got dressed, then walked towards the kitchens. The room was empty, save for Rarity and Steel Aurora, who were eating breakfast, and talking to each other excitedly.

“You like Spike?” Steel was asking Rarity. She giggled.

“Yes.” She said, giggling more. “Is there a stallion that you have your eyes on?” Steel blushed, but did not deny it. “Ohhhh! You do! You must tell!”

“OK, his name is Blue Crimson, he’s Ponyville’s resident Inventor, he’s invented many things, like the lawnmower, he’s in the army, he always seems to think of others before himself. I was best friends with him all my life, but he never seemed to return the feelings…” Steel said, before looking down in sadness.

“So, you’ll tell Steel who you like, but not me?” I asked jokingly. They whipped around to face us.

“How long have you two been standing there?!” Rarity asked me.

“From you liking spike, to the not returning the feelings of Blue Crimson.” Twilight said. “You two really should tell them, if you haven't already. Rares, I know you haven't told Spike, and Steel, I hope you will tell Crimson, he sounds like a great guy. It is hearts and hooves day after all.”

“Hearts and hooves day, what’s that?” I asked them, curious.

“Its a day where ponies show love and affection to each other. I believe they call it Valentines day in your world.” At the mention of Valentines day, I became light headed and I fell to the ground. “THANE!!! What's wrong?” Twilight cried.

“What's wrong?” I asked, confused.”Nothings wrong! Today’s my birthday!!!!” I said excitedly. Twilight and the others gasped.

“Your birthday!? Why didn't you tell me?!” Twilight said, sounding slightly offended.

“I forgot, with all the stuff going on, it completely slipped my mind.” I said.

“How old are you darling?” Rarity asked.

“I'm now 16, Is there anything special you can do at this age?” I asked.

“Well, when you're 16, you are officially considered an adult, you can drink, and stuff like that.” Twilight informed me. She then went red faced. “Its also consenting age.” She said.

“Consenting age? Consent for what?” I asked “OH…” I realised, as Twilight’s face became even more red. “So we could, um, you know...” I asked, extremely red faced. She nodded. “Well, lets get some breakfast and- WHAAAAAAA!!!!” I let off a shout as a pink blur tackled me.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!” Pinkie yelled.

“Hey Pinkie.” I said. The rest of the team shambled into the kitchen, bleary eyed.

“What’s going on?” Rainbow asked, yawning

“ITS THANE’S BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!” Pinkie yelled, waking up everyone in the command center.

“Really?” Celestia asked, after our ears had stopped ringing, sounding generally surprised

“Yeah, I'm sixteen years old. So I'm technically an adult now right?” I asked Celestia.

“Yes that is correct.” Celestia said.

“THIS CALLS FOR A PARTY!!!!!” Pinkie yelled pulling out her party cannon, and firing it, sending party decorations everywhere.

“Ok everypony, lets get down on the floor and crank up the music!” Our resident DJ called out to the entertainment room, from her DJ station. Just as we began partying, alarms rang throughout the command center.

half an hour ago, on earth…

“UHG, hearts and hooves day, I can't stand it! All that love and friendship!” Nightmare mocked. “Ill destroy hearts and hooves day by creating a monster that instills hate and bloodlust!!!” She cackled.

back on equestria…

“Alpha, what is that thing?” I asked said robot.

“I do not know rangers.”

“Wait! What's he doing?” Twilight said suddenly. The monster seemed to be charging a energy wave.

“He appears to be creating an energy wave of tremendous size and power!” I said in horror.

“What could this wave do?” Luna asked worriedly.

“I don't know Luna, but the wave is big enough to affect all of Equis!” I said.

“Its firing!” Rainbow shouted. The wave was traveling across Equis at an impossible speed.

“BRACE FOR IMPACT!!!!” I yelled as the wave hit us. But when the wave passed through me, I felt nothing. I looked at Twilight, who gave me a thumbs up. “Everyone else ok?” I asked the rest of the team. I heard a growl in response. “Celestia?” I asked, looking towards the sun goddess. What I saw horrified me. Her normally serene face of calm reassurance, was replaced by a face of hatred and bloodlust. Her lips were curled into a snarl, her mouth foaming, her eyes blood red, and her hair completely black, and her cutie mark had changed from a sun, to a bloody glaive. The rest of the team was in the exact same state, save for their cutie marks. They had changed from their normal states, to a bloodied version of their power weapons. Save for Pinkie, she looked the worst. Her hair was lying flat, her cutie mark was assorted torture tools, and she kept muttering something about cupcakes, and its their number. I don't know what that meant, but they needed help. “Twilight, help me get them to the infirma-” I was cut off as they somehow morphed, and teleported out of the command center. “We need to find them before they hurt someone.” I told Twilight, who nodded. “Alpha, where are they?”

“In Canterlot Castle, hurry rangers!”

“Its Morphin time!”

“Owl Zord!”

“Shadow Zord!” We teleported to Canterlot Castle, but nothing could prepare us for what we saw. We teleported to Canterlot Castle, not knowing what would befall us, or what we would see. We saw the entire castle in shambles. I saw Prince Blueblood’s head impaled on a spike, among other things. Twilight let out a choked sob, looking towards a chunk of purple, pink, and golden hair. “Cadence.” I breathed.
