Chapters "Crap! I'm going to be late!" I said to myself, running across the street, ignoring the crossway streetlight(which was signaled red for ponies to wait for the roads to cross). I heard a sound and turned my head to the right, only to find a car rushing towards me! The driver had no control of his or her car! The car rammed me and I went flying to the ground. I could feel my heart giving up.
"...You'll do..." I heard a pony say before passing out.
I woke up in a capsule as I heard its opening sounds. "Where....am I?....Who am I...?" I asked myself as I stepped out of the capsule. I couldn't remember anything of my past. "And why....do I have this feeling....that I'm not supposed to be here....?" I asked myself as I walked through a hallway. At the end of the hallway, I saw a clipboard and I picked it up, hoping there were answers to my questions. And sure enough, there was! "DNESF Subject #5067.... He was originally going to die due to a car accident, but one of our scientists, Dr. Rizen, managed to revive him. His other subjects have all been killed in his experiments unlike this one." I read. I let go of the clipboard and I walked through the facility. Finally, I found a door and as I opened the door, I was shocked! I couldn't believe what I saw! It was a wasteland outside...All the plants were dead....All the buildings were ruined...All besides this facility. I walked and saw a sign, showing the name of the facility. "Death Negating Equestria Science Facility....Or also known as: The DNESF..."I read. I walked away from the facility until I found something that caught my eye! A dark, fur-less, total-black-eyed pony. I slowly itched my way towards the pony, making sure to keep my distance at the same time, and asked it "U-Um....H-Hello...Do you know what happened?". The pony turned around with only its head, then with its body and started running towards me. I started running away from it, hearing its cry. I found a shovel on the ground and picked it up. I slammed its head, making it to fall down on the ground and I slammed the shovel on its head, causing it to split. "What...was that...?" I asked myself, gasping for air.
As I kept walking, I kept asking myself "Where the hell is everypony....Or have they turned into that thing?". Finally, after five hours of wandering around the city, I hear a faint cry. As I rushed to the faint cry, I saw a pony and it wasn't that Zombie-pony! It looked like a blue-furred, green-eyed, and yellow-maned filly! There was a piece of gravel on him. "Help!....Please...." The filly cried out. I walked towards the filly and when he saw me, his saddened expression turned into a scared expression. "Y-You! Stay away!" The filly shouted in terror. "Not to worry young filly....I'm here to help." I responded as I took the piece of gravel on the filly with two hooves. It took me a lot of strength to pull the gravel off of the filly but I managed to take it off. As the filly walked out of the gravel, he asked me "Why'd you save me?". " I saved you because it's what I thought was right to do and because I need to know why the world is like this." I answered. As soon as I answered the filly's question, more zombie-ponies came and surrounded us. "Great...More of these...Ugh...I should've brought a weapon!" The filly said. "Here." I said as I gave the filly my shovel. "Why are you giving me this? What if I backstab you with your own weapon?" The filly asked as he grabbed my shovel. "I'm giving you this so then we both survive and I trust you with it." I answered, pulling out a pistol I found in one of the buildings I searched. "Get ready!" I said to the filly as I reloaded the pistol.
After we defeated the zombie-ponies, we laid on the ground, tired. However, when I looked at the filly, he was breathing less! It was because the filly's mask was running out of air! "Shit! I didn't even notice his gas mask! Gah! I need to find a new one!" I said as I quickly got up and rushed towards a field and found a new one with a good air quantity inside it. "That'll do!" I said and rushed towards the filly, took off his old mask, and had him wear the new one. "Alright...His breathing is back to normal!" I said "Crap... It's turning into night....And I'm almost sure that those damned zombie-ponies are worse in the night.". I took the filly and put him on my back and started running towards a barn...
"Ugh....Where am I?" The filly asked as he woke up. "You're in a barn." I responded. "What...happened?" The filly asked. "I realized your gas mask was running out of air, so I found a new one and you're now wearing that one. After that, I carried you here because I would guess that the Zombie-ponies would be more annoying in the night than they are in the day." I answered "Now...My turn to ask you a question. What the hell happened?". "...There was this car accident...then...a random scientist picked up the dead pony's body and went to his facility" The filly responded "Then after a couple of days later...There were ponies that started acting weird....Like...They would lose their fur and their body would turn black....Finally...Their eyes and mouth would be pitch-black...More and more ponies turned into those things... And then 28 days later after that car accident, we're here.". "I see..." I responded. "God damn....I can't believe that this happened...So I was asleep for 28 days...How....?!" I thought "How could all this happen in 28 days.....?".
"So what're you doing here anyways? And what's your name?" the filly asked, curiously. " I'm here because I'm from the DNESF and I just woke up today...I don't know why." I answered. "Crap...What should I name myself? Uh....Something original!" I thought to myself. "My name is Halcyon." I replied. "Yeah...Original name that is...." I thought sarcastically to myself. "Wait...You're from the DNESF?!" The filly asked with a feared expression. "Yes...But I'm not a scientist or anything...I simply was an experiment to a weird scientist... I don't remember anything from my past..." I replied. "Oh....okay..." The filly replied. "So...What's your name?" I asked. "My name is Volet, but my friends call me Vol." Vol answered. "Alright. Nice to meet you Vol!" I greeted and stuck out my hoof. "Nice to meet you too Halcyon!" Vol greeted back and shook my hoof.
After the night passed, we left the barn and started walking back to the city. "So exactly, how do you get in this underground place where all the survivors are at?" I asked. "Well there's a hidden entrance that no zombie-pony can find because they're too stupid to look for it." Vol answered as he led the way. After a couple of minutes of walking, we finally reached the hidden entrance. It was a hole in the floor covered by a broken door. Normally it would look obvious, but with all the destruction this city has been in, it's a really good hidden entrance."Go in." Vol said as he raised the broken door for me to enter. When I had dropped down in the hole, I saw a gate with guards. "Those guys are nice. Don't be shy!" Vol said as he walked towards the guards after he had dropped down. I followed him and when I approached the guards, they immediately pointed their guns at me. "It's okay guys. He's with me. He saved my life when I was scouting yesterday." Vol said while gesturing the guards to put their guns away from me. "Alright." One of the guards replied and all of the guards put their guns away. "Open the gate!" Another guard yelled. As the gate opened, I could see all of the survivors weren't scared but instead were normal. They weren't hiding in a corner, crying, or anything like that at all! They were planning, organizing, talking to one another like normal ponies! "Follow me Halcyon. We need to speak to the captain. He'll decide if you can join us or not." Vol said as he walked. I followed Vol to an office door. Vol knocked the door and said "I'll talk to him. You stay here, 'kay?". "Alright." I answered and sat down on a chair. "Who is it?" A deep voice asked. "It's Vol." Vol replied and when he said that, the door opened and closed when he entered in the room.
As I waited for Vol, I looked around seeing all the ponies work. "Hi!" A mare greeted me as she walked by me. "Hey." I replied. I heard the door open and saw Vol walk past the door. "Well...Good news! You're in!" Vol said, happily. "Awesome!" I said, standing up from my chair. "Here's your room key, clothes, and by the way, you're going to share your room with another pony" Vol said. "Alright. I'm fine with that." I replied as I took my room key and clothes.
When I got to my room, I opened the door only to see the same mare that greeted me on her bed. She had red fur, a long silver mane and tail. "Oh! Hey! So you're my new roommate, huh?" She said. "Uh...Yeah." I replied. "I'm Zeatra." Zeatra said as she laid on her bed. The room was a medium sized room with a bunk bed and another room (of which is the bathroom) near the bunk beds. I put my clothes on the clothe hangers. "What's your name?" Zeatra asked. "I'm Halcyon." I answered. "Not to tell be rude or anything but, why are you here?" Zeatra asked. "Well...I'm here because I was once an experiment of a weird scientist of the DNESF and I saved a filly named Vol, who apparently is a member of this underground clan thing." I answered. "Yeah. I know Vol." Zeatra said. "Yeah and well... Now I'm here." I replied "Why are you here?". "Well...My parents were killed in the outbreak and I found some survivors and they led me here. I'm now an elite warrior. I guess they want me to teach you since I'm an elite warrior and stuff." Zeatra answered "I guess you can think of me as a teacher but I want you to think of me as a friend.". "Ah. So that's why I'm here." I said. "Anyways, it's getting late. You should get some rest. It's going to be a long day tomorrow. At least for you." Zeatra said, chuckling. "Alright." I replied "Good night!". "Good night!" Zeatra replied, turning the lights off.
"Hey! Wake up, rookie!" I heard Zeatra yell. I chose to ignore her and keep on sleeping. It worked until she came and dumped a bucket full of cold water on my face. "AH!" I yelled as the cold water drenched my face. "Told you to wake up." Zeatra said, laughing slightly. I glared at her but got up anyways. As I changed, I thought about what I was going to do today. "Curious?" Zeatra asked. I nodded. "Well don't expect too much because it's pretty simple." Zeatra said. "Well....Ain't she enthusiastic..." I thought, sarcastically.
After we left our room, we went straight to the middle floor of the base. "Now...Oh. Here it is" ,Zeatra said next to a billboard, "To keep the rookies organized, we use this billboard to keep track of progress and some missions. Don't ask me. I didn't make this.". I was slightly confused on why they had missions during a zombie apocalypse, but decided to ignore it. "Alright...Let's see which one would suit you the best...Oh. This one is fine." Zeatra said, taking a mission off the billboard. "Here." Zeatra said, handing me the mission paper. "Escort and protect the scouter..." I said, reading the mission "Wait...It doesn't say who the scouter is.". "That'd be me" I heard a voice say. It was Vol! "Oh hey again, Vol!" I greeted. "Hey again, Halcyon!" Vol greeted back "Who ever knew that we'd be paired up to do this mission?". "Vol..." Zeatra said. "Hm?" Vol responded. "Make sure you teach this newbie." Zeatra said, hitting Vol's head. "Ow...Yeah I know what to do...They don't call me an elite scouter for nothing..." Vol said. "Wait..You're an elite scouter?" I asked. "Yep! I'm the best scouter there is!" Vol responded. "Well...If you're the best scouter, then why do you need help from a newbie?" I asked. "Well....It's more of a teaching type of thing then needing help..." Vol answered. "Well you guys need to go start now!" Zeatra said, pushing us to the entrance.
"Geez...Zeatra can be a pushover sometimes, huh?" I asked. "Yeah...But she really isn't that bad. She may not act like it, but she's pretty fun to hang out with. Anyways...I need to start scouting over in that building." Vol said, pointing at a tall, white building. It looked like a skyscraper! "According to my discoveries, I'm pretty sure we can find some survivors in there." Vol said. "Alright. Let's go!" I said and started running towards the building with Vol.
As we entered, it was dead silent and pitch black. "You sure that there are survivors here?" I asked. "Shhh..." Vol whispered "Don't talk so loudly....You'll attract the zombie-ponies...". "My bad..." I whispered back. As we walked, I saw a ton of zombie-ponies....No surprise...
"Okay...I'm pretty sure there are no survivors here, Vol..." I whispered. "Wait...Do you hear that?" Vol asked "What....The zombie-ponies?" I asked. "No! That other sound!" Vol said. I paused for a brief second and heard a quiet, faint voice. We ran towards the voice as fast as we could. We saw a green-maned, blue-bodied mare under gravel, surrounded by zombie-ponies! "C'mon!" Vol said, taking out his gun. I took out my pistol and shot the zombie-ponies. "I'll back you up. Get the mare out of there!" Vol commanded as he shot the zombie-ponies. I grabbed the mare and put her body on mine. "Alright! Let's get out of this hellhole now!" I said, as Vol and I ran out of the building, saving the mare.
