A Very Unexpected Surprise: The Return of a Special Someone/Battle of the Bolts

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Scootaloo woke up the next morning to the sound of loud crunching. She opened her eyes and saw Angel sitting on her stomach, happily eating a carrot. Several pieces of chewed carrot were covering his face as well. Angel was a messy eater, but it didn't bother him too much, as long as whatever he was eating made it into his mouth. Angel looked down at Scootaloo, smiling.

"Morning, Scootaloo", he said between a mouthful of carrot.

"Morning, Dad", Scootaloo said, "*yawn* Why are you on my tummy?" Angel swallowed.

"Because I wanted to eat this carrot away from Fluttershy", Angel said, "Every time I try to eat one in front of her, she always lectures me about how I'll get a tummy ache if I eat too fast".

"Oh, OK", Scootaloo said. She stretched and yawned again, a small odor assaulting her muzzle and a squishy feeling in the back of her diaper alerting her as well. "I pooped myself, didn't I?"

"Unfortunately, you did", Angel said, "I was right here when you did, too".

"Oh...", Scootaloo said.

"But it's alright", Angel said, "It doesn't smell too bad".

"You don't think this smells bad?", Scootaloo said.

"Not even a little", Angel said, "I had to share the bathroom with Fluttershy after cabbage burrito night and..." He exclaimed in disgust. "Never mind. I'd change you, but I don't know how. Sorry".

"That's OK", Scootaloo said. She grabbed Angel and pulled him toward her until he was resting against her face. Angel smiled, set his half-eaten carrot on the bed, and curled up into a ball, enjoying the warmth Scootaloo had. "I love you, Dad".

"I love you too, Scootaloo", Angel said, giving Scootaloo a small lick on her cheek. Scootaloo giggled and pet the top of Angels head.

"You're so cuddly", she said.

"I know I am", Angel said, "Bunnies are the second cuddliest animals in Equestria".

"What's the first?", Scootaloo said.

"Chinchillas", Angel said in a disgusted tone, "But they're endangered, and close to extinction, so it's a matter of time before bunnies become the first cuddliest. Thanks anyway".

"You welcome, Dad", Scootaloo said, kissing Angel's carrot-filled cheek, "Well, I'm gonna go get a change, OK?"

"You do that", Angel said, going back to his carrot.

Scootaloo got out of the bed and left to find either Fluttershy or Flutterkind for a change. On her way down the hall, she saw the nursery door open. She smiled and walked in, seeing Flutterkind sitting on the mat, cradling her daughter, who was sleeping in her lap, dressed in her foal attire.

"Gramma?", Scootaloo said. Flutterkind looked up.

"Oh, good morning, Sweetie", Flutterkind said.

"Is Mommy sleeping?", Scootaloo asked.

"Yes", Flutterkind said, "Fluttershy, here, came home a little early this morning and said she didn't get much sleep because her friends were being too loud, so she asked me to rock her to sleep".

"Oh, OK", Scootaloo said, "Umm... I kinda... need a change".

"OK", Flutterkind said, lightly setting her sleeping daughter on the mat, "Let's get you cleaned up. Just be careful not to wake up Fluttershy". Scootaloo nodded and walked over to Flutterkind, who lifted her onto the changing table and began changing her.

"So", Flutterkind said, wiping Scootaloo clean, "How was Canterlot?"

"It was awesome!", Scootaloo said, "Me and my friends had fun in the Castle and got to meet Sapphire Shores in pony!"

"I'm sure you enjoyed it", Flutterkind said, "You came home pretty enthusiastic last night". Scootaloo giggled as Flutterkind finished changing her and redressed her in her pajamas.

"Thanks, Gramma", Scootaloo said.

"You're welcome, Sweetie", Flutterkind said, picking up the filly and holding her like a toddler. Scootaloo buried her face in Flutterkind's coat and sighed. "Gramma's getting a little hungry. Would you like me to make us some breakfast?" Scootaloo nodded. Flutterkind smiled and carried Scootaloo downstairs.

While Flutterkind was in the kitchen, making breakfast, Scootaloo was sitting in the living room with Angel, playing chess. Even though she knew Angel was no match for her, she still enjoyed playing chess with him.

"So", Angel said, hanging the rest of his carrot out of his mouth like a cigar, "I take it you liked meeting Sapphire Shores?"

"You know it!", Scootaloo said, attacking a piece, "I bet you wish you weren't sleeping when we left to the concert!"

"No", Angel said, counterattacking, "Sapphire Shores used to be my owner, before she sold me to Fluttershy".

"Why did she sell you?", Scootaloo said.

"She replaced me with a chinchilla", Angel said, "Because it was cuddlier, but it didn't bother me, because she just used me as a music stand".

"And Mommy treats you a lot better", Scootaloo said.

"You can say that again", Angel said, "But, I'm still a little guilty about the way I used to treat her".

"I'm sure it wasn't that bad", Scootaloo said.

"Really?", Angel said, "Slamming doors in her face, rejecting things she was trying to feed me because it didn't look like how it did in the picture, going to the bathroom in the corners intentionally, picking fights with the other bunnies, picking fights with her friend's pets, knocking over the trashcan because she accidentally knocked my bed away from the wall".

"OK OK!", Scootaloo said, "Well... at least you don't do it now, right?"

"That's right", Angel said, "Ever since Fluttershy used 'The Stare' on me, I don't even dare to do any of that stuff. That stare creeps me out. No wonder that cockatrice backed down".

"You didn't start dating Fluttershy just because you wanted her to stop using her stare, did you?", Scootaloo said.

"Of course not, Scootaloo", Angel said, "That was my own choice. Fluttershy is the kindest and sweetest mare I've ever met, and I'm the only one of her hundreds of animals that can speak a pony's language".

"Well", Scootaloo said, "If I had to give my opinion, I'd say you make a great bunnyfriend..." Scootaloo blushed and finished her sentence. "... and dad". Angel smiled as he finished the carrot in his mouth.

"Thanks, Scootaloo", he said, wiping his face.

"No problem, Dad", Scootaloo said. She looked at the board and smiled, making her final move. "Checkmate!" Angel examined the board and sighed.

"Checkmate correct", Angel said, "You win, but you're toast the next time we play!"

"You said that the last forty times we played", Scootaloo said, "But you've been the one that loses".

"Whatever", Angel said.

"Scootaloo, Angel", Flutterkind called from the kitchen, "Breakfast is ready". Scootaloo and Angel smiled and walked into the kitchen. Flutterkind served them and herself and they all began eating. The three ate and talked for a while, then Fluttershy walked in, rubbing her eyes, having just woken up. Scootaloo smiled.

"Hey, Mommy", she said. Fluttershy smiled and hugged her daughter.

"Good morning, Sweetie", she said, her voice a little weak. She sat in between Scootaloo and Flutterkind, her diaper, which was wet, slightly exposed.

"Did you sleep good?", Flutterkind asked Fluttershy.

"Yes, Mother", Fluttershy said, "Thank you for rocking me".

"Your welcome, Sweetie", Flutterkind said, planting a small kiss on her daughter's cheek. Fluttershy yawned, grabbed a muffin, began nibbling it like a mouse.

"So, Mommy", Scootaloo said, "How was your sleepover?"

"It was fun", Fluttershy said, "It was the best sleepover we've ever had. I had a hard time sleeping, though, because my friends had too much cider last night".

"They got drunk?", Scootaloo asked.

"No, Sweetie", Fluttershy said, "Buzzed".

"Oh... OK", Scootaloo said. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Fluttershy was about to get up and answer it, but remembered she was in her foal attire, so Flutterkind did the honors. She walked over to the door and opened it, seeing a random stallion in an orange jumpsuit, looking like he was homeless. Flutterkind raised her eyebrow.

"May I help you?", she said.

"I... I was told... Scootaloo lived here", the stallion said.

"She does...", Flutterkind said.

"May... may I speak with her?", the stallion said. Flutterkind quickly checked him all over, making sure he wasn't carrying anything. Finding nothing, she looked back at Scootaloo.

"Scootaloo, Sweetie", she said, "Someone's here to see you". Scootaloo shrugged and got up from the table and walked to the door, gasping loudly at who was in the door frame. The stallion smiled.

"It's been a long time, Scootasweets", he said, using Scootaloo's unique nickname. Scootaloo's next sentence surprised Flutterkind.

"D... Daddy?!", she said.

"Yes?", the stallion said. Flutterkind looked at the stallion.

"You're Dark Cloud?", she said, "But... Scootaloo, here, told me you... fell".

"Actually...", Dark Cloud said, "I lied... I wasn't dead, I was in prison".

"Wh...what?", Scootaloo said, "Y... you lied to me... about being dead...?"

"Yes...", Dark Cloud said. Scootaloo began to cry and ran upstairs, not even hugging her father. "Scootaloo, wait!" He walked in and ran after her. He soon found Scootaloo in the bathroom, crying to herself loudly. "Scootasweets?"

"Go away!", Scootaloo said.

"Scootaloo, can you just let me talk to you?", Dark Cloud said.

"No!", Scootaloo said, "You're just gonna lie again!"

"Scootaloo, please let me in", Dark Cloud said, "I won't lie, I promise". Scootaloo finally let Dark Cloud in.

"What do you want?!", Scootaloo said.

"Scootasweets", Dark Cloud said, "I know you're upset that I lied to you, but I had to".

"No you didn't!", Scootaloo said, "You-!" Dark Cloud covered Scootaloo's mouth before she could finish.

"Let me finish, Sweetheart", he said. Scootaloo did, but looked at her father with an angry face. "Now, I had to because if I didn't, you would be very upset".

"What?", Scootaloo said.

"When you were born", Dark Cloud said, putting his hoof on the top of Scootaloo's head, "You were the most beautiful filly I had ever seen, and I felt so proud of myself for being able to have such a great filly in my family. I knew you loved me when I first looked into your eyes. However, your mother felt the complete opposite about you. She just thought you were the extra filly in the family that nearly killed her when you came from her and kept crying and keeping her up at night. She didn't pay any attention to you at all. I changed your diapers, fed you, and took care of you in any way you needed. I hosted your birthday parties and walked you to school every day you had it".

"But you...", Scootaloo said, before her father cut her off to finish.

"I'm getting to that part", Dark Cloud said, "Soon, you and I became attached to each other, just like I wanted. When we did, Light Cloud got frustrated because I spent more time with you than her, even though I told her I had to. Then your fourth birthday came, and that's when I gave you Sledge. Light then got upset because I didn't tell her first, but I knew she wouldn't agree. After several more months of taking Light's constant yelling, I decided to divorce her and ask for full custody over you. But then, while you were sleeping, I caught Light in your room with a knife, trying to kill you. I stopped her from doing it by threatening to call Princess Celestia's Guards. The next day, she framed me".

"Framed you?", Scootaloo said.

"Yes", Dark Cloud said, "She used the theatrical blood left over from your Nightmare Night costume and acted like she had been stabbed by me. And, of course, she called the Guards when I was cooking, and they saw a knife in my hoof. I was arrested for attempted murder".

"B-but", Scootaloo said, her expression starting to change, "Wh-why did you lie?"

"I told Light Cloud to tell you that I had died", Dark Cloud said, "Because I didn't want you to feel so sad because I was in prison. I felt like it would have been better if I just told you that and then came back to find you again".

"B-but Mom", Scootaloo said, a tear running down her face, "Sh-she treated me like garbage! She beat me for no reason! She made me wash the dishes at 5:00 in the morning! She made me eat out of the trash! She starved me! She made me sleep in a box in the backyard, even if it was raining or snowing! You weren't there! You didn't help me! I prayed to Princess Celestia so many times, wanting you back! I wanted you to save me!"

"I know, Sweetheart", Dark Cloud said, a tear starting to run down his face, "And I'm sorry. I will never, ever stop loving you, and I just want you to forgive me for all that I did, Every little second I was behind those bars scared me, because I didn't feel like you were safe around Light. I'm just glad I'm with you again, and to see that you're with ponies that care about you? That makes me feel even better". Scootaloo jumped into her father's hooves, crying loudly into his coat.

"I'm sorry, Daddy!", Scootaloo said, "I'm sorry!"

"It's alright, Sweetheart", Dark Cloud said, "I'm just glad to have my little filly back by my side again". He gave his daughter a little kiss. At that point, Fluttershy walked in, no longer in her foal attire.

"Umm...", she said, "Is there something I missed?" Dark Cloud looked at Fluttershy.

"Fluttershy?", he said, "Long time no see!"

"Who are you?", Fluttershy said.

"It's me, Dark Cloud", Dark Cloud said, "You and I used to be best friends".

"Darky?", Fluttershy said, "But... I thought you...died".

"I was in prison", Dark Cloud said, "My wife framed me, but the minute I was told I was free to go, the first thing I had to do was see my little filly".

"Oh...", Fluttershy said, "Well... me and my bunnyfriend, Angel adopted her... and she's under our supervision".

"Oh...", Dark Cloud said, "I see..."

"I could talk to Princess Celestia and reverse the adoption", Fluttershy said, "If that would make you happy".

"No no. That's alright", Dark Cloud said, "She's your's now, and I'm not gonna take her away from a loving mother. I'm gonna move back into my old home, and she could visit me sometimes".

"OK", Fluttershy said, "That could be arranged".

"Oh...", Dark Cloud said, "May I use your shower for a minute?"

"Go ahead", Fluttershy said, stepping out of the bathroom. Dark Cloud put Scootaloo back onto the floor.

"I need to take a shower", he said, "Would you mind stepping out for a while?" Scootaloo shook her head and left the bathroom, but sat in the hallway right next to the door. Scootaloo couldn't believe it. Her father was back. After all those years, her father was back. Scootaloo couldn't wait to pick up things the way they left off.

~~~~~~~~~~
After Dark Cloud finished his shower, Scootaloo went home with him. He was carrying her on his back, while Scootaloo was telling him everything that's happened ever since she was adopted by Fluttershy.
"... and then my bully became my friend, and then my fillyfriend!", Scootaloo said, "And I got to meet Spitfire and Sapphire Shores and Princess Celestia!"
"That's great, Sweetheart", Dark Cloud said, "My little filly has grown up. How am I supposed to hug my little filly if I can't recognize her?"
"Daddy!", Scootaloo whined playfully, "Don't say that! You recognize me now, and it's been three years".
"I know, Sweetie", Dark Cloud said, "I was just yanking your little chain". Dark Cloud reached behind him and gave Scootaloo a small noogie, making her giggle. "So, I like that cutie mark of your's".
"Thank you", Scootaloo said, "I saved Princess Celestia from a timberwolf, and this showed up".
"I'm glad you finally got your's, too", Dark Cloud said, "I don't know if you remember it, but when you were a filly, you always complained about not having it, but now, here you are, with a big special talent with you". Scootaloo smiled. "Also, you said you had a fillyfriend?"
"Mm-hmm", Scootaloo said, "Her name is Silver Spoon".
"Silver Spoon, huh?", Dark Cloud said, "Well, that's great, Sweetheart. My little filly really is growing up so fast". After a bit more minutes of walking and talking, the two had finally reached the house. As soon as Dark Cloud opened the door, a very strong, pungent odor struck both of their muzzles, and where the stench was coming from wasn't a surprise. The house was a filthy mess. The two walked around and saw every single room of the house completely messed up. The carpets were seriously dusty, dishes were all over and all in the sink, both bathrooms had wet towels all over the floor, and ants and roaches were all over the kitchen counters.
"This place is a mess", Dark Cloud said. Scootaloo wondered how Rarity would have reacted to the house.
"And it reeks in here!", Scootaloo said, "I knew Mom wouldn't clean up after herself after I left".
"Light never cleans up after herself", Dark Cloud said, "I used to have to clean up after myself and her. Anyway, this house wouldn't be a mess if she hadn't fired our maid".
"You mean Spicky Span?", Scootaloo said, "I didn't know Mom fired her".
"Yeah, she did", Dark Cloud said, "Well, I'll call her and get her rehired". Dark Cloud walked into the living room and picked up the house phone, while Scootaloo walked back into the kitchen, avoiding the counters. She opened the refrigerator and looked in. Sure enough, everything that was last in there was still in there, fresh and still edible. Scootaloo smiled and was about to grab something when Dark Cloud came back out.
"She accepted", he said, "I had to pay her double for it to happen".
"Is she on her way?", Scootaloo asked.
"Yes", Dark Cloud said, "In the meantime, would you like to go out to eat? I haven't had a good meal in years".
"Sure", Scootaloo said, "How about Sugarcube Corner?"
"Alright", Dark Cloud said, "Let's go".
Two hours later...
After having some snacks at Sugarcube Corner with her father and spending time with him, Dark Cloud walked Scootaloo back home. Scootaloo promised to be back, but didn't want to spend the night until the house was completely cleaned, which was sure to take the rest of the day. Anyway, once Scootaloo got back home, she laid down on the couch next to Angel, who was sleeping. She laid for a while, before Flutterkind came and talked to her.
"Scootaloo?", she asked. Scootaloo sat up and looked at her grandmother.
"Yes, Gramma?", she said.
"I've been waiting for you", she said, "Well... actually, Spitfire wants to see you".
"Spitfire?", Scootaloo asked, "But, why?"
"I don't know", Flutterkind said, "But she did, and she sent Soarin to come pick you up. He should be here any second".
"Oh... OK", Scootaloo said. Soon, the doorbell rang and Flutterkind answered it, seeing Soarin standing in the door frame.
"I'm here for Scootaloo", he said.
"Just a moment", Flutterkind said. She walked into the kitchen to get Scootaloo, who was nibbling the remains of an apple core. "Soarin's here for you, Sweetie". Scootaloo threw the core in the trash and walked to the front door. "See you later, Sweetheart".
"You too, Gramma", Scootaloo said, hopping on Soarin's back as Flutterkind closed the door back. "So, Soarin, why does Spitfire want to see me?"
"I don't know, kid", Soarin said, "She didn't tell me. She just asked me to come and pick you up". He spread his wings. "Hold on tight". Scootaloo did and Soarin took off, flying back to Cloudsdale.
Once they got there, Soarin dropped Scootaloo off at Spitfire's office and left, going down to the mess-hall for some apple pie. Scootaloo knocked on the door and waited.
"Come in", Spitfire called from the inside. Scootaloo walked in, seeing Spitfire sitting at her desk wearing her uniform, her face in her hooves.
"You wanted to see me, Spitfire?", she asked.
"Yeah...", Spitfire said.
"What's wrong?", Scootaloo asked, concerned. Spitfire sighed and stood up, facing the filly.
"Tonight was supposed to be the Wonderbolts Flier's Competition", she said, "But, the captain of the Shadowbolts, Gale Storm, challenged us to a competition yesterday, and now we're having a 'Battle of the Bolts', and the losing team's captain becomes the winner's slave for a full year".
"That's cool!", Scootaloo said, a little excited, "And you're gonna win, right?!"
"That's the thing, kid", Spitfire said, "We're gonna lose!"
"Lose?", Scootaloo said, "Why?"
"Because Fleetfoot is currently suffering fractured wing", Spitfire said, "And can't perform. She, along with Soarin and I, were supposed to represent the Wonderbolts, but now, we're screwed, and I'm gonna have to spend a whole year of my life under Gale's authority!"
"Can't you asked Rainbow Dash to fill in?", Scootaloo said, "She's a Wonderbolt now, right?"
"Yes, but I can't", Spitfire said, "Dash is not permitted for competitions yet. She is not ready".
"OK...", Scootaloo said, "But... why did you want to see me?"
"Because...", Spitfire said, looking around to make sure no one else was listening, "I want you to perform with us". Scootaloo gasped loudly as if she were trying to imitate Kirby.
"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?", she said, "You want me to perform with you and Soarin?!?!?!?!"
"That's what I said", Spitfire said.
"B-but", Scootaloo said, "I can't fly, and I'm not a Wonderbolt".
"I know you can't fly", Spitfire said, "So I'm gonna teach you how, and hopefully, you'll master it before tonight's competition. And... if you can help us win, you'll officially be named co-captain of the Wonderbolts".
"You're gonna teach me... how to fly?!", Scootaloo said, "And... co-captain of the Wonderbolts?"
"Yep", Spitfire said, "I've been in need of an assistant for years, and it would be great if you would do it. Plus, you'll get paid".
"Not to be rude", Scootaloo said, "But how much?"
"400 bits a week", Spitfire said, "Which is 1,200 a month". Scootaloo smiled and nearly fainted. "But, you'll only get all of that if we win, alright?" Scootaloo nodded happily. "Now, are you ready to fly?!"
"Yeah!", Scootaloo said.
"Am I going deaf?", Spitfire said, rubbing her ear with her hoof, "Because I couldn't hear you. I said, are you ready to fly?!"
"YEAH!!!!", Scootaloo yelled as loud as she could.
"Then follow me and let's get you in your uniform, Squirt!", Spitfire said, walking out of her office and Scootaloo happily following her.
After Scootaloo got fitted for and put in her Wonderbolts uniform, she and Spitfire met in the fields below Cloudsdale for practice. Scootaloo was so happy, but contained it, not wanting to wet herself and risk it to leak into her uniform. She sat in front of Spitfire, completely focused as she spoke.
"Now", she said, "This is your first time learning to fly, so it may be a little difficult. Anyway, the first step to flying is the hover. It goes like this". Spitfire got into a position similar to a "down" push-up. "You start like this, and you push toward the ground, flapping your wings and not stopping at all". Spitfire demonstrated and hovered about five hooves into the air. "You try".
"Yes, Cap'n", Scootaloo said. Scootaloo got into the position the best she could and pushed, hovering about two hooves, her tiny wings buzzing loudly as she did. But, she was only able to stay in the air for about two seconds before she plopped back down to the ground. Over and over again she tried, but couldn't go any higher than two hooves. Scootaloo kept trying until her little wings began to become sore. She stopped and sat down in the grass, a disappointed look on her face. Spitfire flew over to the filly and sat down next to her.
"First time is the hardest, right?", she said, joking with the filly. But, judging by the look on Scootaloo's face, Spitfire knew she wasn't in the mood for jokes at that point. "Look, Scootaloo. This is your first time learning to fly, and I told you, it may be difficult. Plus, you're under pressure since you only have eight hours to learn".
"Why does it have to be so hard?", Scootaloo said in a low voice, "Why can't I fly? Just one time? Just to help you win against the Shadowbolts?"
"I know it's hard, but you'll get used to it, I promise", Spitfire said, "Now, let's try again, alright?" Scootaloo nodded and stood back up. "OK, reach my level". She hovered into the air about five hooves again. Scootaloo sighed and pushed, clenching her eyes shut and hovering again. She expected to hit the ground again, but she didn't. She opened her eyes to see herself hovering in the air.
"I...", she said, very surprised, "I'm... hovering... I'm really hovering!!!!!" She hovered up to Spitfire's level. "Spitfire, I'm doing it!!!"
"I can see that, kid!", Spitfire said, getting excited, "Can you go higher?" Scootaloo focused and hovered higher. She was thirty hooves in the air, and level with the normal clouds in the sky. Scootaloo squealed with excitement as Spitfire flew up to her level. "You're doing great, Scootaloo!!!! Take us home! Hover up to Cloudsdale!"
"Alright!!!!!", Scootaloo said, hovering the last fifty hooves up to Cloudsdale and landing softly, Spitfire joining her. "Spitfire, I did it! I mastered hovering!"
"I know, Scootaloo!", Spitfire said, "Keep it up, and you'll be ready in no time!". Scootaloo smiled brightly. "Now, we'll finish in about two hours".
"Two hours?", Scootaloo asked, "Why? I can finish... right... nowwww..." Scootaloo's body became completely relaxed as she passed out, falling right onto the cloud. Spitfire chuckled and picked up the unconscious filly.
"That's why", she said, "You're body tires out after a while during your first time". She could feel a vibration in the bottom of Scootaloo's uniform and sighed a little. "Did you have to wet yourself while I was holding you? Eww!" Spitfire chuckled again. "Well, better get you changed before you get a rash". She placed the sleeping filly on her back and walked back to her office.
~~~~~~~~~~

Two hours later, Scootaloo finally woke up to see she was laying on a bed-shaped cloud in Spitfire's office. Scootaloo sat up and rubbed her eyes, seeing Spitfire sitting right next to her, smiling.

"Well, sleepy head", she said, resting her hoof on the top of Scootaloo's head, "Enjoy your nap?"

"Mm-hmm", Scootaloo said. Her stomach growled loudly at that point and Spitfire pulled an energy bar out of her uniform.

"You don't want to fly on an empty stomach, Scootaloo", Spitfire said, giving the energy bar to Scootaloo, "Trust me". Scootaloo saw that it was a peanut butter and raisin energy bar. Scootaloo didn't like raisins much, but ate the energy bar anyway. "So, you mastered hovering, which means your ready for step two: flying".

"Really?!", Scootaloo said, expelling a few oats in the process.

"Yep", Spitfire said, "Ready when you are". Scootaloo instantly got up and followed Spitfire outside again. Once they got out there, Spitfire spoke again. "Now, since you mastered hovering, this should be easy for you. All you have to do is hover into the air, while at the same time flapping in the direction you want to go". She hovered into the air and flew a few fast circles around Scootaloo.

Scootaloo nodded and stood up. She hovered into the air and attempted to move in a circle. But, she was only able to move an inch in her direction before plopping back down onto the ground. Over and over she tried, but unsuccessful every time, Scootaloo gave up and sat down, resting her tired wings.

"You alright, Scootaloo?", Spitfire asked.

"Yeah", Scootaloo said, "Just resting a bit". After about five minutes, Scootaloo tried again. This time, she flew in a complete circle around Spitfire. "Did I just...?" She flew up, down, and sideways. She had finally mastered flying, all she ever wanted to do. "Spitfire, I can fly!!!! I can finally fly!!!!!"

"Yeah!!!!", Spitfire said, "You're ready! You mastered flying! Now, it's time to test your flying".

"How?", Scootaloo said, "Do I have to do an obstacle course or that big wheel Rainbow Dash had to do?"

"No no", Spitfire said, "That's only for adult members. If I were to let a filly try those, I would have to pay medical bills. All you have to do is fly as fast as you can, me chasing you, and if you can stay away from me for a full minute, you're ready for the competition".

"So, like tag?", Scootaloo asked.

"Exactly", Spitfire said, "I'll give you a ten-second head start. Show me what you got!" She pulled out her stopwatch and set it to a minute. "Ready... start!" Scootaloo dashed off into the air as Spitfire clicked the button. Scootaloo flew for her life, enjoying the wonderful feeling of the strong breeze blow through her mane. No wonder Pegasi loved flying so much. But, soon, her tiny wings became sore, and she had to stop, and Spitfire tackled her onto a cloud, making them both giggle.

"How'd I do?!", Scootaloo asked, still pinned under Spitfire, "Did I make it?" Spitfire checked her stopwatch seeing "1:01" in the screen.

"You made it with one second to spare!", Spitfire said, "Congratulations, Scootaloo! You're in the Battle of the Bolts tonight!"

"YEAYUUUUUHHHHHH!!!!!!!", Scootaloo said. She noticed she was still pinned by Spitfire. "Uh... Spitfire. You mind getting off?"

"Oh, right", Spitfire said, unpinning Scootaloo, "Sorry". Scootaloo stood up, smiling. "Now, waddaya say you and I head to the mess-hall for some grub? I can make us some oatburgers and hay fries".

"Sure", Scootaloo said. Spitfire smiled and walked to the mess-hall, Scootaloo happily following her.

After a while, Spitfire had finished cooking lunch and the two sat down at a table and ate. But, Scootaloo was so excited about flying. All she ever wanted to do was fly, and now she has it mastered.

"So", Spitfire said, swallowing a hoofful of hay fries, "I take it you're excited about the comp?"

"Yeah!", Scootaloo said between a mouthful of oatburger, "I get to fly with you and Soarin!" She swallowed the last bite of her oatburger and wiped the grease from her mouth. "You make the best oatburgers ever, Spitfire!"

"Thanks, kid", Spitfire said, "Soarin thinks the same thing about my apple pies. I'd make you some, but I need to get more pie crusts first. Sorry".

"That's cool", Scootaloo said, "Uh... can I have another burger?"

"You've already had four", Spitfire said, "Don't you think you've had enough?"

"I could go for one more", Scootaloo said.

"OK", Spitfire said, "Knock yourself out". Scootaloo grabbed another oatburger and munched down on it hungrily, as did Spitfire. After eating, the two Pegasi cleaned their areas.

"So", Scootaloo said, "Is there a specific routine I have to learn for the competition?"

"No", Spitfire said, "This competition is a free-fly, meaning no routines. If either team performs a planned routine, they will get disqualified. DQ'ed as I like to call it".

"OK", Scootaloo said.

"Now", Spitfire said, "The competition starts in three hours. You can either hang out with Soarin and I, or go back home and come back then".

"I wanna go tell Mommy and Gramma that I can fly now!", Scootaloo said.

"OK", Spitfire said, "I'll see you in three hours, Squirt". Scootaloo nodded and flew back to Fluttershy's Cottage, unknowing that two ponies, a mare and a stallion, wearing purple and black uniforms spying on her and Spitfire. The mare looked back at the two stallions.

"An eight year old?!", she said, "An eight year old?! That's who she's replacing Fleetfoot with?!"

"Is that even legal?", the stallion said.

"Nothin' in the rulebook that says anything about age", the mare said again, "But why is she even recruiting her, anyway?"

"She could have a chance, Gale", the stallion said. Gale Storm looked at the stallion near-raged.

"I know you're not rooting for those stupid Wonderbolts, Cloud Kicker!", she said.

"I'm not", Cloud Kicker said, "I'm just saying, maybe we shouldn't be so unsportsmanlike toward a filly".

"So you rather see me in Spitfire's office dressed in a maid outfit?!", Gale Storm said kinda loud, "We Shadowbolts need to win this Battle of the Bolts so we can humiliate Spitfire in front of all of Cloudsdale! All we've ever wanted!"

"Yeah!", Cloud Kicker said, "I don't know what I was thinking! She's just fresh hay waiting to be cooked!"

"That's the spirit, Cloud!", Gale Storm said, "And after tonight, Spitfire is going to be in my office, scrubbing my spit off of my desk!" The two Shadowbolts flew off.

Once Scootaloo got home, she picked up the key under the mat to unlock the door and walked in, closing the door behind her. She saw Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, talking to each other. Rainbow Dash looked at Scootaloo.

"Hey, Squirt", she said, "Nice Wonderbolts costume".

"This isn't a costume, Rainbow Dash", Scootaloo said, "It's a real uniform! Spitfire gave it to me!" Rainbow Dash laughed loudly.

"Very funny, Squirt", she said, her eyes still closed, "The only way to get to get a real uniform is by enrolling in the Wonderbolts Academy, and you have to know how to fly, first. No offense". Fluttershy's loud gasp and the sound of buzzing made Rainbow Dash open her eyes, seeing Scootaloo hovering in the air, touching the ceiling.

"None taken, Rainbow Dash", Scootaloo said, giggling, "Oh, and what was that last part? Something about flying?" Scootaloo flew a few circles around Rainbow Dash.

"Sc-Scootaloo", Fluttershy said, very surprised, "You... you're flying..."

"Yeah!", Scootaloo said, still flying circles, "Spitfire taught me how to, and she's letting me perform with her and Soarin tonight against the Shadowbolts!"

"Battle of the Bolts?!", Rainbow Dash said, "But the stakes are too high! Why did she choose you to represent the Wonderbolts?!"

"I don't know", Scootaloo said, stopping and landing in front of Rainbow Dash, "She just told me and taught me how to fly! I finally have mastered flying!"

"That's great, Sweetie", Fluttershy said.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!", Rainbow Dash said, "Why did Spitfire ask you and not me? I'm the second fastest Wonderbolt in the history of the Wonderbolts".

"She said you weren't ready", Scootaloo said. Rainbow Dash stood up, an enraged look on her face.

"I'm not ready?!", she yelled, "I'm not friggin ready?! I've been in the Wonderbolts for two years as a lead pony, and she thinks I'm not ready?! But she thinks an eight year filly who just learned how to fly is ready for the competition against their enemies?! I knew Spitfire had a screw loose!"

"Can you keep it down, Rainbow Dash?", Angel said in his bed in the corner, having just been awoken from his nap, "I'm trying to sleep here".

"Eh, sorry Angel", Rainbow Dash said. Angel sighed and resumed his nap.

"Look, Rainbow Dash", Fluttershy said, "I know you might not like the fact Spitfire chose Scootaloo over you, but this is a good opportunity for her, and I'm sure the Shadowbolts will be no match for the Wonderbolts this year".

"Fluttershy...", Rainbow Dash said, rolling her eyes, "Maybe you don't know who the Shadowbolts are. They have beaten every team they have gone up against. They beat the Thunderbolts so bad last year that they broke up, and now they want to destroy the Wonderbolts, and there's probably some stupid stipulation to this contest".

"The losing team's captain becomes the winner's slave for a whole year", Scootaloo said.

"Oh crap", Rainbow Dash said, "Spitfire's gonna be pissed".

"Watch your mouth, Rainbow Dash", Fluttershy said, "You're around a filly. Anyway, Scootaloo, are we able to see you perform?"

"I can", Rainbow Dash said, "Wonderbolts get in for free, and get to bring one guest. I'll take you, Fluttershy".

"Well, thank you, Rainbow Dash", Fluttershy said, nuzzling Rainbow's cheek, "I hope you do well, Sweetie".

"I will!", Scootaloo said, flying back into the air, "And after tonight, Gale Storm is gonna be Spitfire's slave and I'll be co-captain of the Wonderbolts!"

"Co-captain?", Rainbow Dash asked, "Who said anything about that?"

"Spitfire did", Scootaloo said, "She said if the Wonderbolts won, I would be co-captain and get paid 1,200 bits a month!"

"Eh...", Rainbow Dash said, "I don't care. I make more during Weather Patrol".

"So when's the competition?", Fluttershy asked.

"In two hours", Scootaloo said.

"Me and Fluttershy are gonna get goin'", Rainbow Dash said, "Gotta get there early for the good seats".

"I'll see you at the competition, Sweetie", Fluttershy said, kissing the top of Scootaloo's head, "I love you".

"I love you too, Mommy", Scootaloo said, returning the kiss. Fluttershy grabbed her saddlebag and left. Right when Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash walked out the door frame, Scootaloo saw Angel sneak into Fluttershy's saddlebag. She giggled and sat down on the couch.

"I can't believe it", Scootaloo said, "Flying with the Wonderbolts..."

Two hours later...

It was time. Time for Battle of the Bolts. Scootaloo had used the three tickets Spitfire had given her to invite Dark Cloud, Silver Spoon, and Flutterkind so she could have full family support. Scootaloo was behind the curtains of the stage, peeking out. At the judges table was all of Equestria's Princesses, Celestia, Luna, Cadence, and Twilight Sparkle, all waiting for the show to start. Behind them, in the front row, Scootaloo could see Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Flutterkind, Dark Cloud, Silver Spoon, and Angel, also waiting. Scootaloo's stage fright began to take effect as she started to shake a little.

"Scootaloo?", Soarin called to her, sitting on a crate next to Spitfire, "You OK?"

"Y-yeah", Scootaloo said, "Just got a little stage fright".

"It'll go away once you start flying", Spitfire said, "I promise". Scootaloo smiled. "Now, put your goggles on. Trust me, you don't want to end up with a bug in your eye during a comp". Scootaloo nodded and placed her goggles over her eyes. She saw everything in blue, but still liked wearing them. "OK, Soarin, Scootaloo, remember what's at stake here. We need to win this, to prove Wonderbolts are superior to the Shadowbolts, and to avenge our past allies, the Thunderbolts. The only way we're going to defeat the Shadowbolts is working together, not alone, understand?"

"Yes, Spitsy", Soarin said.

"Yes, Cap'n", Scootaloo said, feeling a little more confident.

"Then let's do this!", Spitfire said. At that point, Snips and Snails, wearing black and white striped shirts, serving as the referees, came onto the stage. Scootaloo wondered why they chose Snips and Snails to be the refs, but she knew it could have been worse. At least it wasn't Diamond Tiara.

"Mares and Gentlecolts", Snips said loudly in the microphone, sounding excited, "Welcome to Battle of the Bolts!"

"Tonight", Snails said, taking the mic from his best friend, "You will see the two best Equestrian flying groups battle it all out in a-"

"... a free-flying competition!", Snips said, interrupting his best friend and taking the mic, "Serving as judges, Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Princess Cadence, and-"

"Princess Twilight!", Snails said, taking the mic. The princesses all stood up and waved at the crowd, who cheered loudly. Snips took the mic back.

"And now, put your hooves together", he said, "For Equestria's undefeated team, the Shadowbolts!" Gale Storm, Cloud Kicker, and their third flier and former Wonderbolt, Lightning Dust flew over the arena's wall and onto the stage. Scootaloo, Spitfire, and Soarin watched from behind the curtain.

"Lightning Dust?!", Spitfire said, "Lightning Dust?!"

"I thought she was a Wonderbolt", Scootaloo said.

"She used to be", Soarin said, "But she threw a tantrum about being demoted to a wingpony, and she quit. I guess she's part of the Shadowbolts now".

"Alright!", Snips said, "Shadowbolts..."

"...begin your performance!", Snails finished.

After about ten minutes, the Shadowbolts had finished their performance. The princesses all started writing down their opinions and scores for the Shadowbolts, while the Wonderbolts behind the curtain got prepared. The Shadowbolts walked behind the curtain to wait for the results, taunting the Wonderbolts in the progress. But the one that made the biggest taunt was Gale Storm to Spitfire.

"Hey, Spitfire", she said, "Don't take the loss too hard. I just hope you know how to cook, clean, and scrub, because you'll be doing so for the next twelve months". She giggled and walked off with the rest of her crew. Spitfire did everything she could to ignore Gale and prepared to go out.

"And now", Snips said, "The challengers. The fliers carrying a 53-2 record for battles, the Wonderbolts!" Scootaloo, Spitfire, and Scootaloo came out through the curtains. Scootaloo instantly fed off of the cheering.

"Alright!", Snails said, "Wonderbolts, begin your competition!"

The Wonderbolts finished their performance in twenty minutes, landing right on top of the stage. The princesses began writing down their thoughts as the Shadowbolts joined the stage and waited for the results. Scootaloo began to shake when she saw Princess Celestia give Snips an envelope and Snails open it.

"And the winner of Battle of the Bolts is...", Snails said, looking at the opened letter.

"The Shadowbolts!", Snips said. The Shadowbolts began to cheer, while the Wonderbolts began to feel discouraged, especially Scootaloo, who began to cry at that point. Spitfire, though more discouraged than Scootaloo, decided to help her feel better.

"It's alright, kid", she said, "You tried your best, and that's all that matters". Gale saw how sad they were and couldn't resist savoring that moment.

"Aww", she said, walking over to the two, "Looks like we got some cry babies here. Don't worry, Spitfire. Once you come back with us and become my slave, you'll have a lot of things to cry about". Scootaloo looked at Gale with a raged look and was about to curse at her, before she saw a piece of paper sticking out of her uniform.

"What's that?", Scootaloo said, grabbing the paper and looking at it.

"Hey, gimme that!", Gale said, before Soarin pushed her away. Scootaloo gasped.

"This is a routine paper!", she said, "And it says the same thing they just did!" Spitfire looked at the paper and saw it too.

"Get that to those referees, now!", she said. Scootaloo instantly dashed off, successfully getting to Snips and Snails with the help of Spitfire and Soarin.

"Snips, Snails!", she said, the paper clenched in her mouth.

"What?", they said. Scootaloo gave them the paper and they looked at it.

"A routine paper?", Snails said, "But wasn't using routines illegal?"

"Yeah", Scootaloo said. Snips and Snails took the paper over to the princesses. After looking at it, Celestia gave them a different envelope and they opened it.

"Mares and Gentlecolts", Snails said, "The Shadowbolts have been disqualified!"

"They were using a routine the whole time!", Snips said. The crowd began booing and dissing the Shadowbolts, and a few of the younger ponies, including Silver Spoon, started throwing popcorn and other snacks at them.

"Therefore", Snips said, "Your winners, by disqualification, the Wonderbolts!" All three Wonderbolts began cheering and celebrating. Scootaloo flew over to her family.

"We won!", she said, giving each pony a nuzzle. Scootaloo then flew back down to the stage, seeing the other Shadowbolts chewing Gale out. "Hey, Gale. What was that? Something about taking a loss? Well, you don't seem to be taking your's too easily".

"Yeah", Spitfire said, "And now, you are my slave for the next twelve months. I hope you know how to change a diaper, because my new co-captain is incontinent, and I don't want to change her. No offense, Scootaloo".

"None taken", Scootaloo said, "I don't think I smell like roses with a full diaper either". The two giggled.

"Alright, slave, follow me". Gale sighed and followed Spitfire back to Cloudsdale.

9:00 PM...

Scootaloo and Silver Spoon were having a re-do of their sleepover, since Scootaloo had won and their last sleepover was interrupted by psychos. At that point, Silver Spoon was changing Scootaloo out of her messy diaper while talking about the competition.

"I still can't believe we won!", Scootaloo said.

"Yeah", Silver Spoon said, "I'm proud of you, Scoots. I knew you could do it". Silver Spoon finished changing Scootaloo and Scootaloo kissed Silver Spoon full on the lips.

"Thanks, Silver Spoon", she said.

"No prob, Scoots", Silver Spoon said, "Anything for a wonderful fillyfriend". Silver Spoon kissed Scootaloo again. Then, she looked at her with a serious face. "Uhh... Scoots?"

"Yeah?", Scootaloo asked.

"Can I ask you something?", Silver Spoon said, "It's gonna be the craziest thing I'm ever gonna ask you".

"What is it?", Scootaloo asked. Silver Spoon leaned in and whispered into Scootaloo's ear.

"What's it like acting like foal?"
