30 Day CaraMac OTP Challenge:  Horseshoes and Apples

Day 1: Holding Hands

Caramel could feel the warm sun on his face as he stretched his spine, feeling the grass graze his belly as he slouched down briefly to let out a loud yawn.  He stood up a moment later, body still hidden from the warm morning sun by the large earth pony next to him, trotting along side him at a slower pace than usual so not to lose him.

“Ya… feelin’ all right sugar?”  The steed spoke as his eyes remained solid, staring at Caramel with a lack of emotion he usually had when he was about to talk sternly.  “Sage said ya should… Ya know, take it easy fer a day or two…”

“It’s only a cold.”  Caramel smiled up at the worrisome steed before he forced himself to stand up straight, trotting down the dirt pathway in the shadow the the taller steed.  He blinked as he glanced around the sunny park, watching mares and stallion trot by him happily, some younger foals playing in the background with their simple games.  “I like spring… Winter makes me sick a lot more easily.”

“Spring just started Sugar, it’s a big change from winter.”  Big Macintosh’s tone was caring as he reached out a hoof to brush the stallion’s mane from his eyes.  The steed’s emerald eyes were worrisome at the very least, caring as usual, if a tad over panicked.  “Ya shouldn’t… overexert yerself.”

“You already wouldn’t let me help out with apple season preparations.”  Caramel stated in a tone that sounded a tad annoyed, yet also understandingly defeated as he ran his hoof through the spot Big Mac had touched in his mane.  “I’m fine with allergies and stuff as long as you don’t make me “overexert” myself… besides, it’s just a walk in the park.”

“Ah know Sugar Cube… it’s just Ah...”  Mac shrugged when he spoke, seeming to find it hard to put into words his worries as he dodged a chatty couple of mares walking down the opposite side of the path.  “Look, why don’t we sit down at least.”

The stallion was annoyed by the steed, but he could at the very least understand and appreciate his concern… in fact the more he thought about Big Mac being so worried for his well being the more he could feel a blush creep onto his face.

Caramel followed Mac’s eyesight to a nearby bench near the park fountain of Princess Celestia.  He nodded in agreement, letting the steed lead the way, trotting through the grass that brushed up against the tan stallion’s hooves for a few feet before watching the bench become sagged by Mac’s weight.

Caramel let himself sit down as well, letting his tail fall through the hole in the back as he pressed his spine to the wood behind him.  He put a hoof on his belly and looked up to the ocean blue sky, the wisps of clouds twisting and turning together.

“It’s a nice day.”  Caramel spoke with a grin on his face when he turned to look at Mac, who was still staring at him with warm, gentle eyes.

“Eeyup.”  Mac spoke, reaching out his hoof slowly, grasping Caramel’s in his own.  He smiled softly as he watched Caramel’s cheeks tint, glancing quickly to his held hoof and then away.  The steed chuckled at his reaction, which didn’t exactly help his pinkining face.  “Ah just want ya ta stay good ‘nuff ta enjoy it… It’s hard watchin ya have a fever.”

“Y-You’re so mushy…”  Caramel spoke in a quiet tone, seeming to glance around for ponies who would be watching the two connect in such a way.  Mac smiled at him, tugging on Caramel’s hoof until the pony felt secure enough to scoot over, pressing his body against Mac’s while still keeping his hoof firmly locked.  Mac’s body gave off a strong yet not unpleasant warmth when Caramel leaned against it, trying his best to keep from noticing the few ponies staring at them.  “I… I don’t hate it though… A-Actually I like it, I mean, I like it when you do stuff like this because it makes me happy and I…”

Mac laughed under his breath, which only caused Caramel to shut his mouth and try to calm his nerves at his boyfriend doing something as simple as this.

Mac’s hoof was strong however, so was the rest of his arm, bulky and filled with strong muscle that somehow held the gentlest touch.  It gave Caramel a sense of protection from the ponies who glanced at him in this moment for he could face them head on and not turn away.  His heart began to beat harder the longer he sat there, Mac’s hoof squeezing his own while his face held a blush that simply refused to fade.  The way Mac would occasionally chuckle at him with that overly happy tone of his made him feel content with the feelings rising up in his chest.

Caramel swung his tail until it brushed against Mac’s.  He soon let it wrap around his own, giggling with glee in his voice as he linked most of his arm around Mac’s.

“You’re a lot more cuddly than I thought you’d be…”  Caramel teased in a quiet voice as he stared back up to the sky.  “Not exactly the strong silent type.”

“Eeyup.”  Mac spoke firmly, not saying anything more as he tightened his hold on Caramel’s hoof.

Sometimes it was nice to not have to say anything… being there with Mac on this nice sunny day seemed to fill whatever might have been missing from a conversation.
