"So... this is how dying is," Spike said to himself.

As Spike sat in the library, he asked himself:

"Why do I have to die alone, thinking about the others while they are somewhere else, which doesn't give us time together anymore? It isn't their fault. Applejack married Soarin' and had children. Rainbow Dash joined the Wonderbolts and is now the General of the Equestrian Army. Fluttershy ended up with Discord, Pinkie Pie ended up with Caramel while Rarity and Twilight left. As the song says, 'in the end, it doesn't even matter'."

Spike had a terminal disease that was really rare. Instead of your average cancer, it was a quick aging disease that would take out his life force in a matter of months. What could've been three months left turned into three weeks since he also had to keep the library running. As he heard the young colts and fillies running outside, the mares and stallions trotting, and a certain owl's "hoo", Spike closed his eyes for the last time, also taking his last breath. Little would he know that he wouldn't rest in peace due to a certain someone who would eventually find him. But, who exactly is this someone? Find out in the next chapter...

No, not really. And now, let's get back to the story.

What happened? Spike asked himself.

Spike was in a strange house, a house he wasn't familiar with. Everything he saw looked bluish, and then he looked at his hands. They looked blue and semi-transparent. It turns out that Spike was in Afterlife mode. He floated around until he found his body sitting on the floor in a fetal position. He got near it and shocked it a bit. He felt his soul starting to return to his body. He continued shocking his physical body until he felt himself fade away. After a couple of seconds, Spike was in his draconic form. He saw a couch nearby and sat  down in order to try and sort what just happened out.

"Where am I?" Spike asked aloud.

"You're in my house," a strange voice answered. The voice belonged to a woman that was dressed in some skinny jeans, a t-shirt, brown eyes, brown skin and black hair.

"What is your name?"

"My name is Yasmin, and I am also known as Gravekeeper's Assailant," the woman anwered.

"Gravekeeper's Assailant? What are you talking about?"

"See for yourself," she answered, before raising a card so he could see. This card was nothing less than the following:

This is how she looks like without the cover.

"So, you're telling me that you are a card?" Spike asked.

"In fact, I am real in another dimension, just as you are," she answered.

"What do you mean?"

"A good example is the following that's true: you are a fictional character from a television show in one dimension, while in another dimension you are real. The same thing happens with me: while I am a simple card in a trading card game in one dimension, I am real in a dimension called the Duel Monsters Spirit World," she answered.

"So, we're all real Yasmin?" Spike answered.

"In some parts we are simply imagination, while in other parts of space and time we are real."

"But my questions are the following: how did I get here, where exactly is here, why am I even here?"

"Let me anwer your questions in respective order: One, after you died, you were sent here in Afterlife mode. Two, you are in Domino City. And three, I was sent by my master to revive you and also to give you a second chance at life."

"What do you mean, 'a second chance at life'?"

"I brought you here to Domino City so you can start a new life here with Duel Monsters."

"Duel Monsters?"

"Duel Monsters is a trading card game that has existed for a couple of years already. It has its own tournaments, Duel Disks, and even its own academies."

"Really?"

"That's right, my dear Spike. In fact, you will be going to Duel Academy, which is the best academy for learning about Duel Monsters. But first, I must train you to be able to duel."

"Alright Yasmin, but first: how am I going to duel if I don't even know how to duel?"

"The answer is the following: I will give you a deck so you can learn how to duel. Then, I will teach you how to play properly enough to enter the academy."

"Do you have a deck I could use?" Spike asked.

"Of course I do Spike. In fact, the cards are right here. I'll be back in a moment with the cards I will be giving you," Yasmin said, before leaving.

As Spike waited for Yasmin to return with the cards that were soon to be his, Spike wondered: How will I adapt in a world I don't know anything about? I guess I will adapt just like Twilight did when we crossed the mirror.

After half a minute, Spike saw Yasmin return with a deck of cards in her right hand. But before Spike could grab the deck, Yasmin gave him a card that many men (and the occasional women) would drool over: the one and only Dark Magician, along with several others that would help that card.

"Check your cards Spike, your journey in this land has just began. I must leave to return to my master, but we will see each other again in the future."

With that, she faded, leaving Spike alone. Out of nowhere, a book materialized along with a sheet of paper taped to the book's cover. The book was called "Duel Monsters: The Official Rule Book". On the sheet of paper that was taped to the rule book said the following:

Dear Spike:

You only have three days to learn how to play Duel Monsters. You must be at the Duel Academy registration exam at 8:00 A.M. this Saturday. Meanwhile, prepare yourself and good luck, for you have a long life to live.

- Sincerely,

Yasmin, the Gravekeeper's Assailant

After Spike finished reading this, he thought to himself: I died in Equestria, and ended up here in Domino City, but why am I feeling funny?

In a strange way, the text that was written on the piece of paper that was taped on the rule book rewrote itself, only to say the following:

Oh, by the way Spike, you'll be turning into a human.

Spike felt an inmense pain in his stomach as a bright light surrounded him. Once the bright light faded, Spike looked at himself. His face showed knowledge that was combined with a boyish charm, and his clothing consisted on a purple hoodie, a black shirt, some skinny jeans and a couple of Black Converse.

I look much better like this than as a dragon, Spike thought to himself, while looking at his reflection in front of a mirror.

He looked for the rule book, only to find it with the same sheet of paper, but with the text rewritten. It said the following:

There is a strange device that looks like this:

It's a Duel Disk. It is used to activate your cards. Use the Rule Book to learn how to use the Duel Disk and also learn how to play Duel Monsters.

"I guess my new life begins here..." Spike said to himself.
