Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Spike's Adventures in Duel Academy

Sweet Apple Acres

Applejack was doing her daily job aided by her twin colts Swift and Apple Slice. She was about to buck another tree, that was until Ditzy Doo arrived with a letter. Applejack immediately opened the letter, only to be shocked by the contents. Once she finished reading it, she grabbed her Stetson with one hoof, and put it over her chest, showing her sadness due to the news.

Sugarcube Corner

"Hey beautiful, how are you?" asked Caramel.

After hearing this, Pinkie Pie appeared from nowhere (to the average pony who barely knew her, although it was normal to the citizens of Ponyville) and tackled her coltfriend Caramel to the ground. Pinkie jumped of excitement, that was until she saw Caramel's facial expression. He was serious at the moment. He gave her a letter, and she read it. The result: her mane flattened, and she started crying.

Cloudsdale

"Those were the Wonderbolts, mares and gentlecolts. Thank you everybody and have a nice day!" said a stallion over the microphone.

Rainbow Dash was heading to the showers as she told the original group of Wonderbolts (which consisted of Fleetfoot, Spitfire and Soarin') the following:

"Wow guys, that was great!"

"I know, I can't believe it's been several years since you joined us Rainbow Dash," Soarin' answered.

"Yeah, it's been a couple of years and you're already the general of the Equestrian Army," Spitfire commented.

"Thanks guys," Rainbow answered. "We've done so much together. You know? I'm hitting the showers to cool down."

"I'm going to go visit my wife," Soarin' said.

"Tell Applejack I said hi Soarin'."

Rainbow went to the showers and, well, obviously, took a shower. Once she got out, Spitfire was wating for her, with a serious face.

"Spitfire, what's wrong?"

Spitfire handed a letter over to Rainbow Dash. Rainbow opened the letter, and after she read it, she fell to her knees, looked down, and remained in a silence that could only be seen in moments like these and national tests.

Venice, Italy: 1492

Fluttershy, in a humanized form, was sitting in a gondola looking right into Discord's (who was also humanized) eyes.

"I'm surprised you would bring me here Discord. I never thought you would bring me here," Fluttershy said.

"Surprises like these are the best my love; in fact, the Doctor and a good friend of mine named Ezio Auditore recommended this place to me. They sure were right," DIscord answered.

"I still can't believe that we've barely been married for a day: it feels like a dream come true. In fact-"

Fluttershy was interrupted as a letter materialized between them. Discord grabbed the letter and read it. After reading it, his face turned into a serious one.

"Dear, what's wrong?" Fluttershy asked.

Discord didn't say a word. Instead, he handed the letter over to Fluttershy. Once she read it, she couldn't help but cry.

Manehattan

"I can't believe he would do such a thing!" Rarity yelled to no one in particular while she entered her condo in Manehattan. Things happened a bit like this:

"Fancy Pants, I'm here!" Rarity said at the door of Fancy Pants's home.

At that moment, Fleur de Lis came out of the house. When she saw Rarity, she said "Good afternoon."

"Good afternoon," Rarity answered. A couple of seconds later, Fleur left and Fancy Pants came out and said to Rarity: "Hello dear."

"You cheated on me with Fleur de Lis?!?!"

"No, I cheated on Fleur de Lis with you," he casually answered.

"Why you-" Words weren't going to describe her feelings. In the aftermath, Fancy Pants was hospitalized.

Rarity was now a famous fashion designer that lived in Manehattan... and was also cheated on by Fancy Pants. A minute of ruckus to laugh at her misery everybody. As Rarity sat in silence, the doorbell rang. At the door was Coco Pommel, Rarity's apprentice.

"Good evening darling, what brings you here today?" Rarity asked.

"Rarity..."

"Yes dear?"

Coco didn't say anything. Instead, she handed a letter to Rarity. Once Rarity grabbed it, she read it. After reading it, she dramatically passed out.

Canterlot Castle

Princess Twilight Sparkle was sitting in her study, trying to relax after a long day of paperwork. She was stressed, and she had been living in Canterlot Castle for a couple of years along with Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, and her loved one, Flash Sentry. Everything was in a peaceful silence: that is, until Flash entered with a concerned look on his face.

"What do you want Flash?" Twilight asked, with annoyance in her voice.

"Twilight, we received this today," Sentry answered.

"What is it? A judicial document? Nobles wanting to raise taxes? Blueblood wanting to get rid of the orphans again?"

Music is optional. If you choose to listen to it, I will signal when to end it.

"No Twilight, it's much worse." After saying that, Flash Sentry took out a letter from under his wing and handed it to Twilight. Twilight grabbed it in her magical grasp and brought it close to her: it was the same letter that had been given to the other Elements of Harmony. On the envelope it said:

In the letter was the following:

Princess Twilight Sparkle:

We regret to inform you that Spike Sparkle, the librarian from Ponyville, has been found dead in Golden Oaks Library. He was diagnosed with the Dorian Grey Syndrome, which makes the diagnosed keep their appearance, however, their internal organs age at a much faster pace until he or she suffers a severe internal organ failure. The victim feels no pain, but during his or her death feels their energy begin to fade. Three weeks ago, we sent you a letter which talked about Spike's condition, but we never received an answer. We hope that you completely understand the sorrow that Ponyville is going through after the loss of the dragon who worked as an assistant for many years, then worked as a librarian, to slowly fade away from this world.

As Twilight Sparkle put down the letter, she fell to her knees and began to cry. How could she forget about him? How could she simply ignore the letter that mentioned Spike's condition? How would the others take it? That was a question for them, for a certain drake was on his way to an exam...

(Music ends, because we do not want to be sad.)

And now, back to Spike in Domino City.

The Day of the Entrance Exam

"Things are looking up for me, that is if you found an 'Elemental Hero Burstinatrix' card, a group of bullies want to take away your 'Dark Magician', and you're late for your exam since you're being chased by the same group of bullies!" Spike said to himself, while running through Domino City to perform the entrance exam to join Duel Academy, the academy that had the best prestige in dueling in the world. The Burstinatrix wasn't bad luck, because it gave him the courage to carry on even after what has happened up to now in his time in Domino City. Spike kept running, that is, until he accidentally crashed into a person many people wouldn't want to run into (due to the great respect he had): Yugi Muto. They both fell, and Spike started to gather his cards until Yugi saw him (Yugi was already standing up and observing how Spike picked up his cards) and said:

"You're a duelist, aren't you?"

"Yes sir, that's right," Spike answered.

Yugi kept on observing until he saw that one of the cards in Spike's deck was Dark Magician. At that moment, Yugi decided to do one of the things few would do: give someone else two of their most important cards to someone else.

"Here, I want you to have these cards," said Yugi while giving the cards to Spike. Before Yugi  left, Spike  asked: "Sir, what is your name?"

"Yugi Muto," answered the famous duelist. After this, Yugi walked towards the crowd and disappeared in it.

Spike looked at the cards, and they were Sage's Stone, along with a card that the writer of this story honestly had a crush on: Dark Magician Girl. Spike kept looking at the Dark Magician Girl card, until it winked at him.

Did she just... wink at me? Spike thought. He checked his wrist watch, and saw that he only had ten minutes to get to the entrance exam.

"I better hurry up if I don't want to be late!" Spike exclaimed, while he began to run once more.

Ten Minutes Later

"Put the rest of them as no-shows," a man said. Just as they were about to begin, Spike climbed up the railing and yelled:

"Spike Der Faust is not a no-show!"

In the Duel Arena...

"Sir, we have one more student," a man said, speaking to Dr. Crowler.

"What do you mean, ONE more student?" he asked. Many people thought that Dr. Crowler was a woman, even though he wasn't.

"What are we going to do about it? Are you going to face him personally?"

"No. In fact, tell him to leave." Just after he said, that he received a call.

"Hello?"

"Dr. Crowler, I hope you had each and every one of the applicants that attended tested. We don't want to lose a good amount of the possible success of our academy, just like when we lost a third of our students since they called you Mrs. Crowler," said the voice that was on the phone. That voice belonged to Chancellor Sheppard.

"Yes sir," Crowler replied. Crowler was really mad. No one, just NO ONE dares to do such a thing. But he'd show him just WHO exactly is Dr. Crowler, and why no one, just NO ONE dare face him.

"Get me my Duel Disk, for I will deal with the applicant personally," he said, with anger in her voice.

"Spike Der Faust, please report to the Exam Field Number 4," a voice said over the intercom.

"I guess that's my go," Spike said to himself.

As Spike walked over to the field, Spike began to ask himself: Who will I duel? Will I do good on my first duel? Will I enter? Enough of that, now's not the time to worry about that. I need to do my best in order to enter here. I must do my best to impress both Yasmin, the woman who brought me here, and Yugi Muto, the one who gave me this Dark Magician Girl and that Sage's Stone card.

Spike stepped on to the pad that would raise him to the duel field. As Spike finally entered the duel field, he said: "This is it, the moment I've been waiting for for the past three days. It's funny how I say it as if it were some moment of some cliché film."

Spike saw a man that looked like this:

Yes children, this is Dr. Vellian Crowler, the man who looks like a woman and also uses an Ancient Gear deck.

"Hello, you must be the one who got here late," Dr. Crowler commented.

"Good morning sir," Spike said with a tone of worry yet serious at the same time.

"Good morning slacker."

"I guess you are the one that will evaluate me. What is your name, by the way?"

"My name is Dr. Vellian Crowler, the dorm master of the highest rank: Obelisk Blue."

"Instead of being scared, I have to say that I am honored Dr., for I am facing the leader of the Obelisk Blue Dorm. By the way, my name is Spike Der Faust."

"I hope you are, for I will be the one to end all of this before even beginning."

I feel like I won't get along with him if I enter. However, I will not let him take me down. As another songs says, "he can sound the alarm, call out the guards, fence in the yard, and hold all the cards, but I won't back down," thought Spike.

"I'm ready whenever you are, sir."

"Very well then, let's begin."

They both activated their Duel Disks, and at the same time yelled: "Let's Duel!"

They both drew five cards, while Crowler drew an additional card since it was his turn first.

1: Crowler

His hand consisted on Ancient Gear Golem, Ancient Gear Knight, Pot of Avarice, Ancient Gear Beast and Red Gadget. The card he drew was "Statue of the Wicked".

"First, I will put a face-down (Statue of the Wicked), and then I will play Ancient Gear Knight, in Attack Mode!"

"I will end my turn."

2: Spike

After hearing this, Spike drew a card: it was Monster Reborn. He looked at the rest of his hand, which consisted on Sage's Stone, Harpie's Feather Duster, Follow Wind, Elemental Hero Burstinatrix, and Pot of Greed.

"I will start by playing Pot of Greed! With its effect, I can draw two more cards." Spike saw that the two cards he drew were "Legendary Flame Lord" and "Dark Magician".

" Now, I'll end my turn by setting Elemental Hero Burstinatrix in Defense Mode."

3: Crowler

As Spike ended his turn, Crowler drew "My Body as a Shield". Then, he said:

"Now, I will play Red Gadget, in Defense Mode!"

"Thanks to Red Gadget's effect, I can choose a "Yellow Gadget" from my deck and add it to my hand. Now, Ancient Gear Knight, attack that Burstinatrix!" The Ancient Gear Knight charged at Burstinatrix, and destroyed her by using its lance. "I will end my turn."

4: Spike

Now's the time to get serious, Spike thought. As he drew a card, he saw it was "Neo Aqua Madoor". Perfect.

"Now, I will activate Monster Reborn!"

"Now, by sacrificing Burstinatrix, I will play Neo Aqua Madoor, in Defense Mode!"

Excellent, that will give me some time, Spike thought. "I will end my turn."

5: Crowler

Machine Duplication? Won't be needing it for now, Crowler thought.

"I will set Yellow Gadget in Defense Mode!"

"Its special effect lets me choose a Green Gadget from my deck and add it to my hand. I will end my turn for now."

6: Spike

Spike drew "Tornado Bird". This will work for now.

"I will end my turn by putting a face-down monster."

7: Crowler

Crowler drew "Reload", and then said: "Enough playing around! I will sacrifice my Red Gadget and my Yellow Gadget to summon Ancient Gear Golem!"

"Now Ancient Gear Golem, attack that face-down monster!"

The Golem punched the card, and the Tornado Bird was shattered.

"You see Spikey-Wikey, when my Golem destroys a monster in Defense Mode, the difference between its Attack Points and the destroyed monster's Defense Points are inflicted as damage to your Life Points."

"Ngh!" Spike exclaimed, flinching after receiving the battle damage. He used a nickname I really hate, but that won't stop me. I will continue until I collapse.

"Now, I will end my turn."

Spike: 2000 LP - Crowler: 4000 LP.

8: Spike

My draw. This'll do! In fact, the Ancient Gear Golem can't attack it since it's attack is 3000.

"I will summon Sonic Chick, in Defense Mode!"

"With that, I will end my turn."

9: Crowler

As Crowler drew Ancient Gear, she declared: "Ancient Gear Golem, attack that bird!" However, the Golem didn't even move.

"What? Why doesn't my Golem attack?!" Crowler asked.

"It's all part of Sonic Chick's effect. This card cannot be destroyed by battle with a monster that has an attack of 1900 or more, Crowler" Spike answered.

"That will not stop me from destroying it! Go, Ancient Gear Knight! Attack that ridiculous little bird!" This time, the Knight charges and destroys the Sonic Bird.

10: Spike

Spike drew "Harpie's Hunting Grounds". He then said: "I will end my turn for now."

11: Crowler

Crowler drew a card that made many tremble, and those who drew it and had cards that could be used at that moment with it were filled with hope: Polymerization.

"Let's make your doom faster! I will activate Polymerization!"

"Now, by sacrificing Ancient Gear Knight, an Ancient Gear from my hand, and my Ancient Gear Golem, I will activate ULTIMATE ANCIENT GEAR GOLEM!!!"

"This monster has the same effects my Ancient Gear Golem has. I forgot to mention the other effect my Ancient Gear Golem had. If it attacks, you cannot activate nor Spell nor Trap cards until the end of the Damage Step. Since Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem has a higher attack than the Defense of your Neo Aqua Madoor, I can destroy it. Now Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem, attack that Madoor!"

As Neo Aqua Madoor was destroyed, Spike flinched from the damage.

Spike: 600 LP - Crowler: 4000 LP.

12: Spike

Let's see what this card is, Spike thought while drawing his card. It was "Reload". "Perfect," he said to himself.

"First, I will activate my Spell Card 'Reload'!"

Spike joined his hand to his deck, and then shuffled it. He drew six cards, and those were "Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands", "Waboku", "Shinato, King of a Higher Plane", "Earthquake", "Cestus of Dagla", and "Meteor Dragon". This will help a lot, I just need to play them correctly.

"I summon Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands, in Defense Mode!"

"Now, with Manju's effect, I can choose 1 Ritual Monster or 1 Ritual Spell Card and add it to my hand." Spike at that moment chose Shinato's Ark. "I will end my turn with a face-down."

13: Crowler

As Crowler drew another "Ancient Gear", Spike yelled:

"Before you even begin your Battle Phase, I will activate a Trap Card: Waboku!"

"This card allows all battle damage dealt in this turn go to 0."

"So what? It's just one more turn I have to wait in order to end you," Crowler answered. "I will end my turn."

14: Spike

Spike drew "Winged Sage Falcos", and thought to himself: Time to end this.

"Let's end this once and for all, Dr. Crowler," Spike said.

"First, I will play Earthquake!"

"This card switches all monsters that are on the field to Defense Mode, but I'm not over yet. I will activate Shinato's Ark!"

"Now, by offering monsters whose total stars equal 8 or more, which in this case will be my Meteor Dragon and my Winged Sage Falcos, I can Ritual Summon Shinato, King of a Higher Plane!"

"Your monster cannot destroy my Golem, because it still has more Defense Points than the Attack Points of Shinato," Crowler said.

"That will not be a problem by equipping Shinato to this card: Cestus of Dagla!"

"With this card, Shinato's Attack Points will receive a boost of 500 points, giving him an attack of 3800 Points!"

"Now Shinato, attack that Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem!" As Shinato attacked the Golem, Dr. Crowler began to think: This can't be, he's going to destroy my Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem!

After the battle, the Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem began to crumble, while Spike said the following:

"Oh, and as you did, I forgot to mention its special effect: when it destroys a monster that's in Defense Position and its sent to the Graveyard, you receive damage to your Life Points equal to the original attack of the destroyed monster. And since the attack of your Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem was 4400, well, you lose," Spike finished.

At that moment, the Golem fell apart and formed a heap of metal parts right over Crowler. As Dr. Crowler screamed, he realized that he lost.

"Congratulations Spike Der Faust, not only have you defeated Dr. Crowler, but you've also guaranteed your entry in Duel Academy! Please pass to registration, and await your results," the man that was on the intercom said.

"Yes, I made it!" Spike yelled. Now, I can begin my new life here, Spike thought to himself. Today was a great day for Spike: he won Dr. Crowler, he now formed part of Duel Academy, and he also got three new cards, one which he thought he saw winked at him. Spike grabbed his Dark Magician, his Dark Magician Girl, and Elemental Hero Burstinatrix cards and said to them, even though only Dark Magician Girl could hear him:

"Thanks guys, you've helped me win this duel, and now I form part of Duel Academy!"

At that moment, he swore he saw the Dark Magician Girl wink at him again. It didn't matter, because he was now part of the best dueling academy that exists in the world. This was the beginning of Spike's adventures in Duel Academy, while he left his former life in Ponyville in the past.

Tune in for the next episode, which could come out on May 2nd, since the author has to work killing pigs and... nah, just kidding. The author simply feeds the pigs and separates trash that is used for feeding hobos and pigs. Until next time, comrades!
