Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Spike's Adventures in Duel Academy
Episodes 5-6: Pranksters' Aftermath/Notte del Arcidemone
Previous ChapterNext ChapterPranksters' Aftermath
Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie looked at the images that formed part of the album where they put each prank they pulled off. It went from pies to fake insects and also from invisible ink to rubber chickens. They laughed at each memory they had, back in the days where they were 17 and enjoying youth in a sense, for they now were 22, and at that age many mares and stallions start settling into a mature life, where they would start having foals and working at a business where they handled their specialty, and in both Pinkie's and Rainbow's case, they had their dream: Pinkie now owned Sugarcube Corner while Rainbow Dash leaded the Equestrian Army while she was a Wonderbolt in her free time. They kept on laughing until they reached a blank divider in the album.
"Whose section is it Pinks?" Rainbow asked.
"I don't know, let's find out!" Pinkie answered. They turned the page, only to bring back the nightmare: it was full of images of Spike being pranked, but the problem was the way they pranked him. Scares, electrocution, falls, strikes that were courtesy of the Cutie Mark Crusaders when the pranking duo convinced them to try and gain their Cutie Marks by becoming Dragon Slayers, Princess Rescuers, and even Warfare Alchemists. The laughs they had gained back then were now the depression they had. As they saw each image, their attitude drooped until they were at the verge of tears.
"All those times we laughed, we didn't care about how he felt," Pinkie said, with a flat mane and tears in her eyes,
"Of all the beings I've known, now that I think about it, I can't believe I treated war slaves, terrorists, and even tyrants better than I treated Spike."
She recalled the times when Spike would seem battered and bruised whenever she visited the library. She thought it was Twilight's fault, but it wasn't entirely hers. Of course Spike was busy, but he wasn't physically hurt by the Princess of Friendship. Pinkie Pie, on the other hand, remembered how he had been excluded by her, and how she had treated him. She remembered when she forced Spike to tell her that the others had forgotten about her, while he had no clue of what they were doing while they were planning a party for her. She never congratulated him on his birthday, and the only time she did was before the Dragon Greed ordeal. And the time her sister Maud told her to invite her best friends, she invited the girls and forgot about Spike, when he had been on the sidelines trying to help them whenever he could. All in all, the Elements of Loyalty and Laughter didn't play their part. Rainbow Dash wasn't there for him whenever he needed it, and in Pinkie's case, she didn't laugh with him; she laughed AT him numerous times, which brought them their guilt. As they broke down, the figure that stalked the first two Elements observed them from the distance.
Der Faust's Journal
Entry 005
I never thought I'd ascend quickly, but I'm now a Ra Yellow. Of course I had to do it with the help of my deck, and I'd be nothing in this world without them. As much as I'd like to say that my trump cards are the magicians and Burstinatrix, my Winged Beasts cannot be forgotten, for all those times they had to be sacrificed, I was given another turn, and in exchange, I would avenge them and achieve victory. Now that I'm also one of the school chefs, I have gotten to know several people better. All in all, I guess the future is bright, and my ascension is getting closer.
- Spike
Spike's Room, Ra Yellow Dorm, Academy Island
"Hehehe, time to give him a proper wake-up-call," the Dark Magician said, while preparing his staff.
ZAP!
Huh? He still isn't awake. Why isn't he-
"DARK FLARE COMET!!!"
"Ack!"
"Hehe, I got you!" Spike said, while entering the dorm. After seeing this, the magician checked under the covers, only to find a couple of pillows that were fixed in order to look like somebody that was sleeping. Facepalming himself, the Dark Magician said:
"Alright alright, you got me, laugh all you want."
"And that I'll do," Burstinatrix said, as she began laughing. A couple seconds later, the Dark Magician Girl began to laugh, and then Spike joined in on the laughter.
"Hurry up Spike, remember that you're on chef duty," the Dark Magician said.
"Yes, Mentor," Spike answered. The Dark Magician had become a mentor of knowledge and would help Spike when needed. The Dark Magician Girl was pretty much the only friend our protagonist had at the moment, and Burstinatrix was the strong-souled warrior that pretty much helped him by motivating him to persevere, even when the odds were against him. How did she appear? We'll talk about that later.
Dr. Crowler's Bedroom
Our highly despised Obelisk Blue headmaster was extremely annoyed, because three Obelisks (including him) were according to him "mocked" by the dragon-blood that was sent to Ra Yellow.
"Time to call an old friend of mine," Crowler said, while he grabbed his phone, dialed a number and waited for a while.
"Hello?" Doctor Crowler asked.
"Did anyone call a Shadow Duelist?" The voice asked in response.
Professor Banner's Bedroom, Slifer Red Dorm
5:00 P.M.
"Hello Spike, it's a pleasure to see you at these hours," Professor Banner said, while bringing out two bowls of rice along with two cups of tea.
"Thanks Professor, it's good to visit the dorm where I began," Spike answered.
"Hey Spike, have I ever told you about the Abandoned Dorm?"
"No, why is it abandoned?"
"You see Spike, it the old dorm used for the Obelisk students, however it was also used for Shadow Games and several students disappeared there, therefore another dorm was made."
"Let me get this straight: the Obelisks got another dorm just because Shadow Games took place there while we Slifers live in what looks like a rundown hotel?"
"Despite you now being a Ra, I appreciate how you recognize that you began as a Slifer Red, and the amount of Slifers being promoted to Ra Yellow, or even to Obelisk Blue have been few."
As he finished his meal, Spike said: "Thank you for the meal Professor Banner, but before I leave, where can I locate this dorm?"
"It's in the woods, follow this map *hands map to Spike* and you'll eventually find it. Besides, how was the Duel Spirits book?"
"It was interesting, in fact, I'm sure I can find out more about them if I visit the dorm. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll rest a bit so I can walk tonight and think about the book," the green-haired teen said, while he left the dorm.
The Abandoned Dorm
8:00 P.M.
Alexis Rhodes
Brother, wherever you are, I hope you're alright, Alexis thought, while she left a rose at the entrance. She entered the abandoned dorm, and she entered deeper into the dorm until a tall man by the name of Titan appeared:
"Hello, let's play a game..." he said.
"AAHHH!!!"
"I love nights like these, especially when the calm wind blows and it's a quiet night," Spike commented, while he walked in the forest.
"Despite my appearance, I also enjoy these kind of nights," Burstinatrix answered, while she floated. The night was one of those peaceful nights that could be felt in the great outdoors, and the forest was an ideal place. Things were going fine...
"AAHHH!!!"
...That is, until a scream was heard nearby.
"Where did that scream come from?" Spike asked.
"It came from over there, let's go!" Burstinatrix answered, as they headed to the place known as the Abandoned Dorm:
"So this is the dorm..." Spike said.
"It looks spooky..." the Dark Magician Girl said with fear in her voice.
"It doesn't matter, let's go!" the Dark Magician said.
They ventured forth, and as they investigated the dorm, they found drawings and text that talked about the Millenium Items, until a card was found on the ground by the Dark Magician Girl.
"It's a Cyber Tutu card," she said.
"Alexis..." Spike said with worry in his voice.
The card was in front of a hallway, so they decided to go through that hallway. At the end of the arena stood a field made of stone, and on the far end of the field stood Titan.
"Duel with me," Titan said.
"Tell me where Alexis is," Spike demanded.
"Oh, you mean her?" Titan asked, pointing at a coffin, where Alexis stood, unconscious.
"The duel is the following: if you win, you take her and I'll leave the island, but if I win, I take both of your souls in this Shadow Game," Titan said.
"Alright, let's get this duel started!" Spike said, as he turned his Duel Disk on.
"DUEL!" they both yelled.
- Titan
"I'll start off by playing the Field Spell Pandemonium!" The place turned into a hellish place, as described in the artwork.
"As long as this Field Spell is activated, I take no damage from the effects of Archfiend cards. I'll end my turn by playing Darkbishop Archfiend, in Defense Mode."
1400 DEF
- Spike
"I'll summon Sonic Duck, in Attack Mode!" A green duck appeared, with 1700 ATK to boot. "Now Sonic Duck, attack that bishop!" The duck ran at it's sonic speed, and a few seconds later, the Darkbishop shattered. "That'll do for now," Spike finished.
- Titan
"Your duck will be nothing after this turn, for I will bring back my Darkbishop with Premature Burial!"
"Of course it costs me 800 Life Points, but since I now have an Archfiend monster on my side of the field, I can Normal Summon Terrorking Archfiend, in Attack Mode!"
2000 ATK
"Terrorking, attack that duck with Locust Storm Barrage!" A swarm of Locusts came out of the king's chest and swarmed the Sonic Duck, destroying it in the process. "I'll end my turn for now.
Spike: 3700 - Titan: 3200
- Spike
A Level 2 Spellcaster is my draw? Well, better make it count, Spike thought to himself. "Ok, I'll summon Time Wizard, in Defense Mode!"
400 DEF
"Now Time Wizard, activate Time Roulette!" The roulette spinned round and around, until it stopped on the bottom castle icon. "Excellent, activate Time Magic!"
"Not without activating my Darkbishop's effect. You see, I also have a roulette, if it falls on a 1, 3, or 6, the effect is negated and your Wizard is destroyed. And the result is... 5?! Lucky kid." Titan said.
"Now your Archfiends rot."
"I'll discard my Desrook Archfiend in order to Special Summon my Terrorking from the Graveyard." Titan said, as the Terrorking spawned in.
"I guess that's the end of my turn," Spike said.
"And the Beginning of your demise, for you will fall victim to my Millenium pendant!" Titan exclaimed, while raising a pyramid-shaped item with an eye on it, and as it shined, Spike saw part of his chest and his legs vanish. So these are the Shadow Games, Spike thought to himself.
- Titan
"I will now activate my Spell Card, Soul Charge!"
"The effect is the following: I pay a multiple of 1000 Life Points, and for each 1000 I pay is a monster I can Special Summon from the Graveyard. I'll pay 2000 Life Points in order to bring back Darkbishop Archfiend and Desrook Archfiend!"
1100 ATK
"Now Desrook, attack that wizard!" the Desrook moved at an agonizing pace, until it bumped Time Wizard off its card, and destroyed it.
"Terrorking, attack that green-haired kid directly! Locust Storm Barrage!"
"Ngh!" Spike exclaimed.
"You see Spike, when playing a Shadow Game, the wielder of the item is always the victor, and with this pendant, my victory is guaranteed! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!"
Will Spike defeat Titan? Will Crowler succeed in his plan? Will you stop spamming me? Find out in the next chapter...

Spike: 1700 - Titan: 1200
- Spike
Review: I have no monsters, but I have 500 more Life Points than my opponent, who owns the Millenium Pendant. Pendant? Pendant, pendant... I see what he did there, Spike thought to himself.
"My move!" Spike exclaimed, while taking out the Cyber Tutu card he picked up, aimed for the Pendant, and threw it like a shuriken.
"My Pendant! What have you done?" Titan asked.
"Proving that you're a big fat phony that should get a date instead of wasting time playing fake Shado- what was that?" Spike said, as he saw a purply mist cover the field.
"I don't know what is- AHH!!!" Titan said, as purply blobs entered his mouth and after a few seconds, his eyes turned into a demonic red.
"Hurry up kid, I want to finish this!" the 'Shadow Duelist' said.
That escalated quickly... Spike thought to himself.
"You should listen to him!" Burstinatrix said, as she started shooting her Burstfire at the shadow blobs.
"Alrighty then, I'll play a... Baby Dragon?"
1200 ATK
The Dark Magician, along with the Dark Magician Girl, started laughing at our green-haired protagonist.
"It looks like you!" the Dark Magician said.
"Not cool," Spike answered. "Now Baby Dragon, attack that Desrook! Dragon Breath!" the Baby Dragon took a deep breath, and exhaled fire, burning the Desrook in the process. "Hit me with your best shot, Titan."
Spike: 1700 - Titan: 1100
- Titan
"I will play the Field Spell Yami!"
"Now my Fiends' Attack and Defense Points increase by 200, which means that I'll switch my Darkbishop to Attack Mode!"
Darkbishop: 300 + 200 = 500 ATK
Terrorking: 2000 + 200 = 2200 ATK.
"Terrorking, annihilate that dragon with Locust Storm Barrage!" the well-known locust storm flew towards the Baby Dragon, and destroyed it.
"Darkbishop, attack him directly!"
"Ack!" Spike exclaimed, as he fell to the ground, but before the shadows tried to infect him, the Dark Magician shot them, for Burstinatrix was starting to feel powerless.
"Come on Spike, you can do it! Remember that with one draw the duel can change completely!" The Dark Magician Girl said with a warm smile, while helping him get up.
Spike: 200 - Titan: 1100
- Spike
"Alright, let's see what card I got this time!" As he saw the card, he told Titan:
"You know what Titan? I think fate is taking a complete 180-degree spin, especially with this card, Dragon's Mirror!"
"Here's how it works: I remove from play monsters from my side of the field or my Graveyard that are listed on a Dragon-Type Fusion Monster, and I can Special Summon that monster from my Fusion Deck! Let's kick my Dragon Baby up a millenium, in order to bring forth Thousand Dragon!"
2400 ATK
"Now Thousand Dragon, destroy that Darkbishop Archfiend and end this duel once and for all with Inferno Flame Breath!" The dragon took a deep breath, and that breath then turned into a terribly powerful flame that pulverized the bishop along with the remaining Life Points Titan had.
Titan: 1100 - (2400 - 500 = 1900) = - 800.
"No, this can't be! I can't lose!" Titan exclamed, as the shadow creatures surrounded him.
"Yes you can,"Spike answered. Meanwhile, the shadows began covering Titan and dragging him to the Shadow Realm.
"NOOOO!!!!!" Titan exclaimed, before disappearing and leaving his hat behind. As tempting as it was, Spike picked up the hat, put it on, and while he looked at the place where Titan once stood, he said:
"I win." After that, he went towards the coffin Alexis stood in, and got here out of the dorm as soon as possible. Of course it took some effort, but he was helped by his Duel Spirit friends. They walked until they decided to take a rest in a clearing, and in that short rest period, Alexis woke up and asked:
"What happened?"
"You were kidnapped by a phony who said he was a Shadow Duelist, and I defeated him," Spike said, with a serious tone.
"How, if he had a Millenium Item?"
"The Millenium Pendant isn't one of the seven items, besides, I think we ended up forming part of a real Shadow Game, and as my proof, I have this hat," Spike said, with a smile on his face while he pointed to the hat he was wearing.
"You look ridiculous," Alexis said, with a giggle.
"I suppose we should head to our dorms, mind if I walk with you?" Spike asked.
"After this whole 'Shadow Games' ordeal, I guess so." The two began to walk towards the Obelisk Girls' Dorm, and on the way Spike asked the following:
"If you don't mind answering, why were you at the Abandoned Dorm?"
"My brother was a prestigious student by the name of Atticus Rhodes, and he was one of the students that disappeared inside that dorm," Alexis answered. "Wherever he is, I hope he's alright."
"Don't worry Alexis, you'll soon find him. Sometimes, if you wait, the thing you're finding appears,"
"Are you sure about that?"
"Yes, you just have to be patient." They kept on walking until they eventually reached the Obelisk Blue dorm.
"I guess this is where we part," Spike said, looking at Alexis in her eyes. Oh, those joyful eyes that if he saw them, the world would remain still while he lost himself in the eyes of an Obelisk Blue that was a beauty on the outside, and her personality was just as bautiful.
"Yeah. Listen, I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier," Alexis apologized, as she remembered the incident...
Duel Academy
5:15 P.M.
"Hey Alexis, where are you going to in such a rush?" Spike asked.
"That is none of your business!" she yelled, while she saw his expression; an expression that showed shock and sadness, for the one who had defended him against Chazz and his goons had now yelled at him, hurting his feelings. Yes, Spike was mature in a sense, but he was fragile at times, and now was one of those times. As he ran away, Alexis yelled:
"Spike, wait!" I'm sorry for hurting your feelings Spike, I let the pain of losing my brother cloud my mind! she thought to herself. Once he disappeared, she knew what to do: talk with the man who first received him: Professor Banner.
"No problem, I didn't know about the burden you carried back then, so in this case it was my fault. By the way, that's in the past, today's a gift while tomorrow is a surprise. By the way, I believe this is yours," Spike said, as he gave her the Cyber Tutu card the Dark Magician Girl found at the Abandoned Dorm.
"Keep it Spike, I want you to remember that I'm there for you," Alexis said.
"If you're giving me this card, then I'll give you this one," Spike answered, as he gave her the following card:
"We all have an internal power, and one day, we'll be released from our restraint," Spike said.
"By the way Spike, there's one more thing I want to give you,"
"And what could that-" our protagonist was interrupted by a kiss on his left cheek, courtesy of the Obelisk he had rescued.
"Thanks for risking your life saving me," Alexis said, with a slight blush on her face. Spike's thoughts were now a mess due to the unexpected kiss.
"Um, your welcome," he answered in a lovestruck tone with a heavy blush on his face. He then walked away, and once he was away from the dorm, Burstinatrix said:
"So, Alexis..." she said, in a teasing way.
"Haha, very funny!" he answered.
"Somebody played knight and got his reward..." the Dark Magician said, while making fun of him. The Dark Magician Girl, on the other hand, was slightly jealous. As the quartet walked back to the Ra Yellow, a lone figure observed them from the distance.
"Once the Chancellor hears about this, he'll expel you Der Faust," the figure said, before returning to his dorm.
