Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Carrousel Boutique, Ponyville, Equestria

As she opened the door to the place where she began, the Element of Generosity's memories of her years residing in the village came back to her, and as she remembered, her mind shifted to what would've life been like if she would've given Spike an opportunity...

Spike would arrive in a suit with his scales polished, a mature smile on his face and the bow tie that she had given him time ago. She would be using a black dress as her attire the night he asked her out, and they would go to the local restaurant called Café Purée, where they would order a nice salad, and they would accompany it with a cup of fine cider which would be courtesy of Sweet Apple Acres, and despite the bill that would be paid, the two would enjoy the night, and while they would be walking in the night that Luna spent her time making, Spike would ask her to be her marefriend, and without a second thought, she would say yes...

The time shifts over to a couple years later, when Spike would be assisting her in the Boutique until it was lunchtime.  After finishing their daisy sandwiches and tea, Spike would take a knee, and in his hand would be a golden horn ring with a lone diamond on it. She would squeal out of excitement, and she would gladly accept being his fiancé.

The next moment takes place in Canterlot Castle, where the drake and his fiancé would get married. The other Elements of Harmony would be there, along with their families. Then the Canterlot Elite, many Crystal Ponies, the ruler of the Crystal Empire, the rulers of the Dragon Kingdom and the rulers of those other marvelous kingdoms, and most importantly, Luna and Celestia, the Royal Sisters that have played an important role in Equestria and also in the Crystal Empire. In this case, both would lead the ceremony (despite the average wedding ceremony being lead by one), and after the mare and drake confirmed their decision, he would kiss Rarity, while the witnesses of the marriage would cheer and then the wedding party would take place.

We finally arrive to the future, where Spike lay beside Rarity on the sofa, while their Kirin (half-dragon, half-pony) daughter, by the name of Lavender (due to the color of her fur) ran around with glee. As he pecked his wife's lips, she smiled, thinking about the drake she loved.

That's the 'what if', not reality in her case. She was now alone, regretting why she never gave him a chance and ashamed of how she treated him for her own wishes, despite her being the Element of Generosity. As she shed her tears, she saw in a dark corner a faint glimmer. That glimmer came from under the dresser that was in her bedroom. She went towards it, and what she saw worsened her mood: it was the Fire Ruby Spike had given her five years ago, but the state of it was the problem. The ruby was dull and covered in dust and cracks. All in all, it was to Spike what Dorian Grey's portrait was to Dorian Grey himself. The tears she shed were more frequent, for the only item he gave her, the item that could've been considered his heart, was now broken. She now regretted those times when she would keep him working when she could see the tiredness in his eyes. She also reached the conclusion that she didn't fulfill her part as the Element of Generosity, for she had used Spike and his feelings towards her for her own advantage. Those times he would dig for gems, clean her Boutique and carry the supplies while she pranced around, and even when she used him as a pincushion, which would weaken the drake's scales (dragons, at a young age, are immune to lava, but their scales are weak against sharp objects and the average physical damage), but little would she know that the pain would get worse, while the mysterious figure observed her...

Face Your Fears

Our protagonist was passing out breakfast to his fellow Ra Yellow classmates. Once he finished passing out everybody else's food, he went back to his room and began eating breakfast. He opted for a bowl of Corn Flakes while his mentor opted for a bowl of oatmeal. The Dark Magician Girl was eating pancakes, while our fire-manipulating warrior had a portion of eggs and bacon. As unnecessary as it is, our fellow Duel Spirits were eating. As you can see, Duel Spirits do not have to eat, but they can do so and simply enjoy the flavor of the food. As strange as it may seem, a single tear ran down Spike's right cheek.

"What's wrong Spike?" Mana asked.

"It's just that, after being around for years, I think I have found a place to call 'home'," Spike answered. He was immediately embraced by Burstinatrix, who said:

"After being away from my comrades for so long, I understand your pain."

"We were away from each other for what seemed like an eternity, but now, we are together," Mahado said, as he and his student joined the group hug.

Now children (and by children, I mean teenagers to adults), remember Yu-Gi-Oh! Episode 1? Téa Gardner grabbed a marker and drew a symbol of unity on the hands of Joey, Tristan and Yugi. When the four put the hand that had the marker on it, a smiling face was formed, meaning that no matter where they were, they always had each other. Things were peaceful for our Dragon-blood, the two Spellcasters and the Warrior, until six uniformed people entered the room.

"We are the Disciplinary Action Squad, and we have come for you Spike Der Faust!" a black-haired, green-eyed woman, who was known as the Chairman exclaimed.

"Whoa, kick the tone down a couple of notches, you remind me of my aunt when they eat her cookies. Here, have something to eat," Spike said.

Two dozen pancakes and six satisfied D.A.S. troops later...

"Get on Spike, we're taking you to your judgement," the Chairman said, as he got on the D.A.S.'s truck. He now wondered what his punishment would be, and he was about to find out...

Judgement Room

As Spike entered the room, he saw Chancellor Sheppard, Fonda Fontaine and Dr. Crowler, each one in separate screens. The Chancellor then spoke:

"Spike Der Faust, for entering the Abandoned Dorm, you are under conditions of being expelled. As your judgement, you shall take part in a duel that I will-"

"Allow me to organize the opponents for him Chancellor, don't you dare put a finger. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some arrangements to perform," Crowler interrupted, leaving everybody with a dumbfound face.

Later...

Spike was walking, wondering to himself about what happened with Crowler, walked on the beach.

"What would he mean by opponents, master?" The young drake asked.

"This can only mean one thing my student: he's going to put you in a three-way duel, unless it becomes a tag duel. You see, three-way duels and up flow like an average duel, but the difference is that on each player's first turn, they cannot declare an attack, but on their second turn, they are free to do so. In a tag duel, you share a field with another player, you can use your partner's monsters for sacrifices, Special Summoning, Ritual Summoning and even Fusion Summoning. Sharing strategies and monsters are very important in tag dueling, for if a weak link is found and destroyed, the team falls apart. Also, if there is a bad chemistry between the tag team, the other team can take advantage of the enemy team's conflict and win." The Dark Magician answered.

"Hey, isn't that the kid that went to the Obelisk Dorm since he thought that Alexis had written the letter to him but the letter was really directed to you?" Burstinatrix asked, coming out of nowhere and pointing towards Syrus, who sat on a rock and looked at the sea.

"Oh, I'll never become an Obelisk Blue, not even a Ra Yellow." Syrus said, with sadness in his voice.

"Hey, your name is Syrus isn't it?"  The green-haired teen asked.

"Yes, that's me. Aren't you the guy who dueled back at the Girls' Dorm in order to get us out of there?"

"Exactly. Name's Spike Der Faust by the way, although the odd part about my case is that I have the name of a dog and the hair color of a troll."

"At least no one has made fun of you due to that."

"At least not yet, that is. What has brought you to the beach alone, on this fine day?"

"Oh, it's nothing."

"You sure? I'm pretty sure a duel would help that mood."

"Oh, um, okay."

The two prepared their duel disks, and then simultaneously exclaimed:

"DUEL!"

  1. Syrus

"Um, I'll set a face-down, then summon Gyroid (1000 DEF), in Defense Mode, to end my turn."

  1. Spike

Hey Dark Magician Girl, it's good to see you in my hand, Spike thought to himself.

"Alright, I'll summon Harpie Lady 1 (1300 ATK) in Attack Mode. Next, I'll activate the Spell Card Elegant Egotist! This card allows me to Special Summon from my Hand or my Deck a 'Harpie Lady' or a 'Harpie Lady Sisters', but I'm opting for the sisters, so come on out Harpies (Harpie Lady Sisters, 1950 ATK)! Harpie Lady 1, attack that Gyroid!"

"Since you attacked my Gyroid, I'll activate my Trap Card, Supercharge! Now I can draw 2 cards. Besides, it takes two attacks to destroy my Gyroid," Syrus said.

Now that you drew your cards, I can attack you directly. Go Harpies, attack again with Delta Harpie Formation!"

"No!"

"That'll do for now."

  1. Syrus

Ok, it depends on this card, Syrus thought to himself, as he drew his next card. Power Bond?! This is my brother's key card. Speaking of it...

I don't like the looks of it, I know the face of a miracle draw,Spike thought.

  1. Syrus

"Alright, I'll put Gyroid in Defense Mode (1000 DEF), and I'll end with Swords of Revealing Light."

  1. Spike

The kid seems insecure, but I need to find out why, Spike thought. He's activated Swords of Revealing Light, which stalls my progress, better start swarming the field.

"I'll simply summon Sonic Duck in Attack Mode (1700 ATK) to end my turn."

  1. Syrus

"I'll summon Jetroid in Defense Mode (1800 DEF), and I'll end my turn with a face-down."

  1. Spike

"I'll summon my lovely yet deadly Harpie Lady 3 in Attack Mode (1300 ATK), and that'll do for now."

  1. Syrus

"I'll activate the Spell Card Future Fusion! Now, I send the monsters needed for a Fusion Monster from my Deck to my Graveyard, then two turns after this card is activated, I can Special Summon the Fusion Monster I chose. I'll end my turn."

  1. Spike

"I'll just summon Takuhee in Attack Mode (1450 ATK) to end my turn.

  1. Syrus

"I'll end my turn since I can't do anything."

  1. Spike

"First, I'll sacrifice Takuhee and Sonic Duck, in order to summon Harpie's Pet Dragon, in Attack Mode (2000 ATK), and since I have two Harpie Ladies on my side of the field, it's Attack goes up to 2600! Harpie Sisters, attack that Jetroid!"

"I'll activate my Decoyroid's effect, which switches the attack target to Decoy! Then, I'll activate Jetroid's effect, which lets me activate Trap Cards from my hand, and I choose Sakuretsu Armor! Now your Harpie Lady Sisters are destroyed!" Syrus exclaimed, as the three harpies turned to dust.

"Well then, I'll attack your Decoyroid with my Harpie Lady 1, then I'll attack your Jetroid with my Dragon, and then I'll attack you directly with my Harpie Lady 3. My fellow monsters, attack!" As he said, they attacked, in the order he said before.

Spike: 4000 - Syrus: 2400

  1. Syrus

"Here we go! I'll activate Call of the Haunted to bring my Decoyroid back in Attack Mode (300 ATK)! Then, my Future Fusion's effect activates, so I can summon Super Vehicroid Jumbo Drill in Attack Mode (3000 ATK)! Now, attack Harpie Lady 1!"

"Ngh!"

"I'll set a face-down to end my turn."

Spike: 2600 - Syrus: 2400

  1. Spike

"I'll switch my Harpie Lady 3, then I'll attack your Decoyroid with my Dragon!" Spike exclaimed.

"Not if I activate my Trap Card, Negate Attack!" Syrus countered.

"And there goes my turn," Spike deadpanned.

  1. Syrus

"I'll end my turn by attacking your Dragon with my Jumbo Drill!"

Spike: 1600 - Syrus: 2400

  1. Spike

This is my last chance, and I must use it properly, Spike thought.

"I'll set a face-down, and I'll end my turn by sacrificing my Harpie Lady 3 in order to summon my Dark Magician Girl in Defense Mode (1700 DEF)."

  1. Spike

I can't attack her, she's too cute, but if I don't do it Spike could win, Syrus pondered.

"Go Jumbo Drill, attack that magician!"

"I play a Trap, Magic Cylinder!" Spike countered.

"NO!"

Spike: 1600 - Syrus: -600

"Hey Syrus, you dueled well. May I see your hand?" Spike asked.

"Um, sure," the shy teen answered. Spike looked at Syrus's hand, and he said:

"Oh no." After saying that, he imagined the outcome...

Imagined outcome

"I'll activate De-Fusion on my Jumbo Drill, only to bring it back with Power Bond (3000 ATK x 2 = 6000 ATK)! Now, attack Harpie Lady 1!"

"Syrus, why didn't you activate De-Fusion, to then activate Power Bond and defeat me?" Spike asked.

"Because my brother told me not to," Syrus answered.

"What kind of brother does that?"

"Mine!" Syrus said, as he ran away. Spike looked at the path taken by Truesdale, and he felt something deep inside.

"What kind of brother does that? Throwing away a bond like that. Misusing something so valuable, something unique, SOMETHING I'VE NEVER HAD!!!" Spike yelled, as his pupils dilated to those of a lizard, his hairstyle was now sharper, and his mind was now filled with rage, revenge and other dark thoughts until-

"Spike, are you alright? I heard you scream, so I came to check on you," a certain female Obelisk asked.

Her, Spike thought, as his pupils and his hair returned to normal.

"Not really, it's just that..." Spike drifted off.

"What's the matter?"

"It's Syrus, I need to see his brother. Do you know where I can find him?

"Spike, his brother is Zane Truesdale, the best student on campus. Dueling him is something only a fool would do."

"I must find Zane and talk to him, for he is the reason of Syrus's personality."

I may not reason with him, so I should at least support him, Alexis thought.

"He's in the Obelisk Blue dorms."

"Thanks Alexis, you're there when I really need it."

"Your welcome Spike, now go and get him."

"Time to see what we're truly made of, and by 'we', I mean Zane and I," Spike said, as he headed towards the Obelisk dorms.
