The Lunar Protègè (stopped for now)

2 years ago, Canterlot.

The princesses sat in the throne room alone, their eyes shifting from window to window, they were nervous and for the most powerful creature in Equestria to be nervous there must be something very wrong. "What if the letter was an empty threat, they have not threatened us in thousands of years! This wait is gnawing at my spirit, I wish to go a walk." Luna said impatiently.

"If you are to leave, I will have an aetheral guard accompany you, they are our most elite guards and have never been defeated in battle. Nor have they ever failed a mission" Celestia suggested smugly, she personally trained every aetheral guard to make sure they were adequate for what their job entitled them to do. Celestia then called for a guard and instructed him to accompany Luna on her walk. The guard known as Captain Dusk nodded and motioned for Luna to follow him outside.

Luna trotted through the fields beneath Canterlot castle with a steady flapping of wings from behind her, the grass in the fields swayed lazily to the west and no life was apparent in these empty fields, Luna would often take walks like this to contemplate her new life in this new society that she had been detached from for 1000 years, she once met Twilight on one of these walks and often wished she could have such a promising student to follow in her hoofsteps, she imagined a powerful unicorn that could even rival twilight in a duel, her train of thought was interrupted by Captain Dusk blocking her path "Unknown pony ahead, stay here and I will check if it a friendly, whatever you do do not draw attention to yourself, you are a of royal descent and a prime target for attacks" Luna was surprised by how commanding the guard was, she could she why Celestia was so proud of these guards.

They both looked down the sea of grass and sure enough at the bottom she  would see the silhouette of a pony further down the hill, despite Captain Dusk' s orders she followed behind him to see it. Shote ignited her horn to create a dull blue glow around the area so they could see better, upon closer inspection the pony appeared to be a young Stallion , blood had matted onto his sky blue coat and a deep cut down his flank across his cutie Mark was dripping with blood, next to the stallion a blood-stained knife was stuck into the ground at an awkward angle, whoever left here must of been in a rush to leave. "We have an injured civilian, stay with him and I will report back to Celestia!" Captain Dusk said before spreading his wings outward and taking off into the starry sky above.

After he had left Luna looked down at the Stallion she brushed his purplish hair off to the side and realized he was a unicorn, her gasp of realization seemed to wake him up as a quiet grain could be heard. " Hey there! There are better places to sleep than on the ground you know." Luna chuckled, she was not the best comedian but she found it funny, the Stallion opened his eyes to reveal yellow eyes beneath

" w-where am I? Why am I a- ahg!" He suddenly put his hoof to his head in pain, Luna decided he needed help soon and teleported them to the Canterlot hospital.

3 days later...

Luna patiently  Sat next to the bed looking at the bandaged unicorn, after they got here she asked Twilight to do some research while she visited Canterlot on who this pony was but Twilight had found nothing "Who are you? You mysterious appeared in a field and now look at me watching over you.  Almost like a mo- a mother..."  she smiled warmly but jumped a bit as she heard the stallions dry,  raspy laugh

"heh, I don't really have a family no'more, I don't know where they are now but they left me. Said I was too volatile and a disappointment to the family just cause I'm a unicorn!" He tried to sit up but fell back into the bed with a grunt. "I swear when I get out of here I'm going to learn that stupid spell and find them again, and then I'll bucking-" he stopped abruptly and looked down "sorry, sometimes I just...blow a fuse, I'm Wandering Dreamer by the way. Thank you for helping me, I'd be dead as a rock by now!" He laughed again but then started coughing.

Luna smiled at the stallion interesting personality and felt a strong feeling of trust between them " I am Princess Luna, ruler of the night sky!" She chuckled when she heard Dreamer suddenly gasp and put a hoof to his mouth " and I would like you to be my student, once you're all fixed up that is...I don't know why but I have a feeling you are destined for greatness!"

Dreamer looked at her with wide eyes, he seemed shell-shocked by her sudden statement but then he smirked and looked her in the eye "I make sure you don't regret it! I'll study and practice whenever needed!" He sarcastically saluted like a soldier and they both laughed.

The next day Dreamer was let out of the hospital and both Luna and him took a carriage back to the castle, after a surprisingly through inspection of Dreamer and a handful of protesters out the way they reached Celestia' s personal quarters, Luna excitedly knocked on the door and Celestia opened it wide when she saw her sister. "Luna, you are home! Nice to see you back and...who is this you have brought along with you? Is this the young Stallion Captain Dusk mentioned?" She leaned in close to Luna and whispered "His mane looks like Princess Cadence' s!" She smiled and let out a quiet laugh before regaining her composure.

"Yes, his name is Wandering Dreamer and he has no family, the reason I have brought him here to you is because I want your permission to...to ad- to adopt him..." Celestial gasped in Surpraise at his sister's unexpected request

"Well...er, I GUESS it would be ok. I assume you would also be his mentor?" Celestia asked seriously, she wanted to make sure that Luna was responsible enough for this.

"Yes, like you are to Twilight Sparkle, I wish to follow in your hoofsteps sister." Celestia blushed at this remark.

"I guess it would be ok... but remember that means he will then be your responsibility and part of the royal family" Luna and Dreamer squealed in delight before Luna ran and hugged her sister while Dreamer stood there smiling.

And this is when Wandering Dreamers story begun.
