It was midnight and Rainbow dash was awake which was unusual for the cyan Pegasus, she was the type of pony that enjoyed lounging in the fluffy clouds that cruise over ponyville, and yet she was awake pondering on the aspect of finding a stallion. Wether it was worth it or not she didn't know but nonetheless the question rolled around in Dash's mind. "Oh dash what are we going to do?"
She said to herself in the dark confinements of her room.
The subject at hoof had been bothering the mare for weeks ever since the day she caught Twilight Talking with Sorin, Rainbow had always had eyes for the pale Wonderbolt but after listening in on there conversation Dash had a change of heart."Uhgg" Rainbow grunted. " How in Equestria did Twilight and Sorin suddenly have a thing for each other?!" Dash shouted mentally she decided that she would fly down from her home in clouds dale all the way to ponyville and give Twilight a talking to, She new that the Purple unicorn would be up practising some kind of new spell or reading another one of her many novels.
The dull grey clouds bathed the darkening sky, letting little moonlight shine through the clouds. Rainbow Dash listened to the sound of the rumbling thunder as she continued soaring through the dark sky. "Great. she grumbled. Today of all days we just HAD to have it rain." She had forgotten that it was going to be raining tonight. Luckily she didn't live far from Twilight's place. Once the familiar tree library came into view, she felt a drop hit her muzzle. It started to drizzle. She flew down to the front door of her library, and brought her hoof up to knock on the door. But she stopped.
"Wait. What am I going to say? I can't really speak with her without causing some sort of problem."
She was right. Sure she was upset, butt she didn't want to make her friend feel guilty, or hurt her feelings, or cause some sort of grudge. What was she going to do?
Her thoughts were then interrupted by a sound coming from the second floor. She flew up and stopped by the window. She put her ear up against the tree to try and listen to what was going on. The first thing she heard, was also the last thing she wanted to hear. A long, drawn out moan, belonging to that of a stallion. Rainbow Dash quickly put her hoof to her mouth to stop herself from making any loud noises. She took a quick peek through the window, and then immediately regretted doing so. She quickly flew off towards her home. As she continued flying, she wasn't sure if she herself was crying or if it was just the rain that continued to pour down from the heavens.
When Rainbow got home, she went to the bathroom and dried her cyan coat and dazzling rainbow mane. She then dragged herself to her bedroom, and laid there, with her face buried in the pillows.
"This can't be happening... please, dear Celestia don't let this be true! "
The next morning, Fluttershy was finishing up her work in the garden, she finished planting the final flower. She stepped back, admiring her fine work.
“Well now that my garden is sorted for the day, I should go feed the chickens.” Fluttershy said with a smile.
As she made her way to the chicken coop, the timid mare tensed up as she felt the ground rumble, and heard the all too familiar sound of one of Rainbow Dash’s Sonic Rainbooms. She waited for the cyan pegasus to hop down from the roof of her cottage, as she usually did when she came by to visit. However, after about a minute, there was no sign of her.
Maybe she’s off somewhere in a hurry, or is just training for the Wonderbolts as usual. Fluttershy thought.
She was a little confused though. Rainbow Dash didn’t perform that move too much, not unless there was a good reason behind it. She also realized something else. She didn’t see that famous colorful shockwave after the initial BOOM, of the Sonic Rainboom. Something wasn’t right here. Something felt, “off”. It was bugging Fluttershy, so after feeding the chickens, and quickly finishing up the last few tasks at her cottage, she flew off towards Ponyville, to see if anyone had seen Rainbow Dash, or new where she was or what she was doing.
When she arrived, she noticed a group of about 50 ponies all gathered around something. Some ponies were panicking, some were trying to keep some of the young fillies from seeing what they were looking at, and others were at the center, keeping the other ponies from reaching the center. Fluttershy flew down and made he r way to the group of the ponies.
“What’s going on?” Fluttershy asked.
“Someone’s gotten hurt!” a stallion replied.
“What!? Who?”
“I can’t tell, there’s too many ponies in the way!”
Fluttershy made her way through the group, politely excusing herself as she made her way through the group. She eventually reached the center, and was shocked to see who lay there.
It was Rainbow Dash, laying in a puddle of blood. Fluttershy stood there, her whole body shaking at what lay before her.
“Scuese me, pardon me.”
“Pardon me Darling.”
The familiar voice of her friends Applejack and Rarity could be heard.
The orange earth pony and the white unicorn emerged from the group, and stood there, just as shocked as Fluttershy.
“Fluttershy? What happened?” Applejack asked.
“I-I-I…..I don’t know…” she replied.
“Who could of done this!?” Rarity exclaimed.
Fluttershy slowly walked up to the mare who laid there on the ground.
She appeared to be cut up, luckily all appeared to be minor. There were some bruises on her sides and back, and a couple of feathers appeared to be missing from her wings. Eventually the Royal Guard came by, and Rainbow Dash was taken to the hospital. Later, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity and Applejack watched Rainbow Dash lay there in the hospital bed.
“Nurse Redheart, is Rainbow Dash gonna be alright?” Applejack asked.
“Well, she has multiple minor cuts on her front legs, and on her wings, a few bruises here and there, and a couple of cracked ribs, which most likely came from her impact to the ground from the Sonic Rainboom. She’ll live, but it’ll take a little while before she’s on her hooves again.”
“Thank you darling.” Rarity replied.
Nurse Redheart then left the room to go check on some other patients.
“Why would Rainbow Dash perform a Sonic Rainboom while she was all cut up and bruised?” Fluttershy asked.
“Maybe she was trying to get away from the evil guys that hurt her!” Pinkie exclaimed.
“Maybe, but I’m not sure.” Applejack replied.
“Darling, I wouldn’t worry about it. We should just focus on making sure Rainbow Dash is alright, and that she recovers from this.” Rarity assured.
“It's such a shame Twilight isn't here she would be so sad” Pinkie said barely listening to herself let alone any other pony.
“That there's a good point, where the hay is Twilight!?”
“Yeah, where is she?”
“Why isn’t she here? You’d think she be here after such an accident such as this.”
“Has she not heard about what’s happened yet?” Fluttershy asked.
“I don’t know sugarcube, but I think I’ll go and tell her what happened.”
Applejack rushed out of the hospital, galloping to Twilight’s place. When she arrived she knocked on the door. No pony responded.
“Twilight? Are ya there?” Applejack called out.
No response. She knocked on the door again. Not even Spike came to the door to answer.
Applejack tried to open the door, and found it to be unlocked. The door slowly creaked open. The room was dark, except for the sunlight leaking in from the doorway. Applejack slowly walked in the room. Nothing seemed to be out of place.
“Twilight? Are ya home?”
There was no response. She took a few more steps, but was stopped by the sound of her stepping on glass. She moved back, and looked down. On the floor was some smashed glass, and some blood. Not to mention some cyan colored feathers lying on the floor.
“What the….” She was quickly interrupted by the faint sound of crying that she didn’t hear when she first came in. It sounded like it was coming from upstairs. Her heart was starting to pound in her chest, a little worried about what had happened here, and who was on the upper floor. Applejack stood at the base of the stairs, wondering if it was a good idea to go upstairs to check. She mustered up her courage, took a deep breath, and started to make her way upstairs. The crying slowly got louder, and louder. Applejack stopped just outside of Twilight’s room, the door closed. The crying could be heard a lot easier now. Applejack opened her door, and saw Twilight laying there in her bed crying into her pillow. Applejack quickly rushed up to her.
“Twilight! What’s the matter?”
Twilight only continued to cry. Applejack gently shook her. She started to ca lm down, and bring her head up. She looked at Applejack, her face covered in tears. Her mane looked a little messed up, and her eyes looked a little red, which must’ve been from all the crying. Her eyes, full of guilt, and sorrow. Applejack gave her a friendly hug, and Twilight started to sob, hot tears going soaking Applejack’s orange fur.
“It’s alright sugarcube…..” she tried to get Twilight to calm down. What has gotten her into such a bad mood. Unless…..
The shattered glass, the blood, the feathers, the cuts and bruises on Rainbow Dash….
It all hit her at once. Applejack continued to hug her friend. For now, she just needed to calm her down. Only later will she question her.
