Author's Note

Note: This fic is rated teen, but I will most likely change it to mature if I decide to add explicit content. Also, this is not a FULL Papers Please crossover since I have to alter a lot of lore for the nation to fit into Equestria. Expect a heavily altered Arstotzka. Hell, I'll probably remove the crossover tag if it gets too different. But the general idea of Arstotzka as a nation in Papers Please will be relevant.

Prologue

(Eastern Equestrians in Moscolt after E-Day)

Long ago, Equestria was a massive and vast nation. The envy of the world.

For hundreds of years, Equestria enjoyed a state of uninterrupted peace and harmony under the watchful eye of their benevolent Alicorn leader, Princess Celestia.

Equestria once stretched wide into two distinct regions; East and West, separated only by a few variations in language and dialect. The nation's unbelievable borders were impressive for its day and drew the jealousy of foreign empires who could only expand their nation through brutal conquest.

Bound together by Celestia and the ideals of friendship and tolerance, the people of Western and Eastern Equestria worked together in a state of blissful peace. It seemed nothing could destroy such a harmonious state.

But the peace between the East and West did not last for long.

Three hundred years before Twilight Sparkle ventured to Ponyville for the first time, the East, led by economic tycoons was beginning industrialize rapidly at rates that alarmed the crown. In a few decades, the East made more progress than the previous hundreds of years combined.

With exponential advances in production and construction in East Equestria, the Eastern settlements of Hoovoslavia, Scandimaneia, Moscolt, Germaney, Stalliongrad, Armaneia, and Ponland* turned from modest towns to become impressive urban metropolises.

The West of Equestria and the crown were uncertain at the East's new direction, weary that its technological advances would create a vast inequality and disturb the harmony that country was used to.

However, a greater inequality of life was what the East was concerned about. An inequality of class.

The East's industrial revolution brought a massive divide between rich and poor at the same rate that it brought the East technological progress.

The working periods for Easterners became longer, conditions became dangerous and filthy while the owners of capital were elevated to riches unknown.

It was only a natural reaction for the proletariat to resist their corporate masters.

Princess Celestia had not been oblivious to the Working Class's struggle and tried again and again to get their corporate bosses to change their ways to prevent an inevitable class war.

However, her unwillingness to use force and fear of solidifying the divide between Equestria's classes prevented her from truly progressing the situation.

Unpleased by Celestia's failure and apparent weakness, the working class became increasingly radical and revolutionary, dismissing the crown as a tool of the bourgeois that would not serve them.

When reform by labor union was silenced as well, the Eastern Proletariat finally turned to violence.

The desperate attempt at containment failed, and the Proles began to use their assault their bosses, take out guards and cut off trade and people entering from the West.

Horrified at the brutal display by the Eastern Proles who she began to view as crazed psychopaths and concerned for the lives of the agrarian Westerners she was closest too, the Princess had to step in herself to quell the violence.

She did so by reducing the Easterners to basic human beings in a fateful period known as Expulsion Day, or E-Day.

The Elements activated and stripped the rioting Proles from their supernatural abilities. The Eastern Earth People lost their brute strength, the Pegasai lost their wings and ability to control the weather and the unicorns lost their magic. Their outward appearances began to change as well after E-Day, with the Easterner's cutie marks stripped and hair and eye colors becoming dull shades of brown and black.

The Easterner proles were not discouraged from violence as Celestia hoped, but were rather humiliated and sought further revenge for the loss of their powers.

A week or so after E-day, a charismatic and determined revolutionary named Vladimane rose from the East's bleak ashes and began to rally the masses in a revolution against their feudal lords for the ideals of progress and egalitarianism.

Behind the scenes, Vladimane led his fellow workers against their oppressors. The labor unions orchestrated secret assassinations and trade operations behind the backs of the West and crown to fuel their inevitable revolt. Key locations were secured and weapons such as the gun and devices which could expel magic were developed.

Finally, the second uprising began on the first anniversary of E-Day.

Caught off by surprise, the Crown was unable to counter the technological might of the revolutionaries, who's guns and machines easily trumped the Monarch's forces.

Nobles in the East were stripped from their wealth, exiled and even executed by their former workers.

Fueled by their technological prowess, the revolutionaries made their way to Canterlot in the West to overthrow their once beloved ruler. No Western peasant dared to stand in their way.

Celestia again tried to use the elements to repel the revolt, but a highly trained and brave revolutionary assassin had crept into her room and temporarily disabled her magic with mechanized gloves capable of magic expulsion before being speared by guards.

The siege of Canterlot lasted only an hour before the Easterners stepped in the castle.

Using rifles to take down the guards, the revolutionaries stormed Celestia's quarters and beat the magic-less alicorn with fury.

Had Vladimane not stepped in, Celestia would have been shot.

Finally, an agreement was made to split the East from the West of Equestria. Armaneia, Hoovoslavia, Scandimaneia, Ponland, Germaney, Moscolt and Stalliongrad became the new nation of Arstrotzka.

To the Equestrian, the second uprising was a dark age worse than what NightMare Moon or Discord had brought. To the Arstotkzan, it was a sign of the Alicorns' vulnerabilities.

The labor unions took power and elected Vladimane as President. The East kept its massive industries to further advance its own well beings and sparingly supply the West with technologies in exchange for agriculture.

Led by a series of determined Presidents, Arstrotzka set itself as the most advanced nation in the world, but never forgot its grudge with the West. It wasn't too kind to other nations like Griffonia and Zebrica either.

To this day, Arstrotzka continues to pride itself in its technological advantages. However, internal power struggles by opposing factions in the nation have caused it to descend to an incredibly mild, but notable police state that has further alienated chances of peace with other countries.

Other than trade of dismissed technologies and infrequent missions of diplomacy, the Socialist Republic has kept itself cut off from most of what they considered to be a primitive and feudal world.

Almost no Arstrotzkan has even considered to step out of the East and into the West which they once belonged to.

Almost no one.*Don't worry, the locations in Papers Please are still there, but those are only districts. The ones I mentioned are the actual cities themselves named after real life locations with pony puns to fit the setting.
