Understanding it does not mean I can Control it
A narrow escape
Previous ChapterNext ChapterOn a train heading north
Twilight Sparkle was heading north to try and save the Crystal Empire. The lavender mare's mind never forgot this as one of her friends, a white unicorn mare, was trying to uphold a casual conversation about spells to try and ease Twilight. Twilight appreciated this, of course, but she would have preferred her friend had not tried at all. Twilight was very stressed.
"That particular part of the illusion was tricky but-"
"Rarity you already told this story." Twilight interrupted.
Rarity grinned sheepishly and blushed. Seeing Rarity flustered Twilight tried to amend the situation.
"Not that it's a bad story or anything, but you've told it a few times. By the way, didn't AJ want to talk to you before we arrive?"
Rarity stared out the window next to them, wide eyed. Twilight waved her hoof in front of Rarity's face trying to get her attention. Rarity continued to stare out the window. Twilight reasoned she should probably look out the window- of course I should, why didn't I sooner? Twilight slapped her hoof on her face and turned to gaze out the window. What she saw was breath taking. Flames were dancing across the horizon. Beautiful as it was Twilight wasn't sure why it captivated Rarity so much.
"The Everfree." Twilight jumped when Rarity spoke.
"What about it?"
"We are far away Twilight, but you can still see that that's over the Everfree. Something is obviously happening."
"Right, girls, come over here and-" The train lurched sideways with a large 'clang' sound and interrupting Twilight and throwing her from her seat.

In the Everfree
I'll be the first to say that being in the middle of that Super Nova, even as a Mars Adept, wasn't pleasant. Looks I set a forest on fire again. Getting up on my feet after that took a moment, longer than it should have. The backlash from that was intense yeah but it wasn't that bad. I 'reached' within myself on instinct. I 'felt' my Psynergy, and there wasn't much left. I might be able to hold my own against Day and Night but I doubt it. I probably only had enough to escape, barely. I turned to look back at the castle that I emerged from to see that the Sisters had already seen me and were charging at me. Melee combat is it? My chances might have gotten better.
Raising my Sol Blade up in a defensive position, I called my Psynergy forth and cast Eruption. Avoiding that will take some of their attention away for a small moment, but it was enough for me to realize what to do next. I just hoped I had enough Luck to pull it off. Seeing the Sisters still looking behind them at my attack, I laughed. They fell for it, but now is the part when the victor of the battle would be decided.
Jumping a foot into the air, I raised Sol about my head, grasping on with both hands. I really hope this works. I took a deep breath. I smirked as I felt some Power in the Sol Blade. Deciding this was a good time as any to be dramatic, I howled.
"Megiddo!"
I must have someone looking out for me because for once, something went in my favor. The Sisters had looked back at me when they heard my cry, and I'll never forget the look in their eyes. I'll be honest that it made me feel a little bad. They actually looked scared as the small sun rocketed toward them.
I fell back to ground, sheathed Sol, and turned and ran. That last attack shouldn't have used my Psynergy and yet I felt as if I had almost none at all. Staggering through the forest at first, I broke into a full sprint trying to get away. I heard the crash from my attack as I ran away and that inspired me to run faster. I didn't know if I hit them and I didn't want to know. I wanted to get the hell out of there and recover my Psynergy. I ran for what felt like an hour. My legs were sore and I felt like I couldn't run even if a Jupiter Adept cast Spark Plasma right behind me.
I heard what sounded like a horse yelling but it didn't sound like one of the Sisters. How they speak is beyond me, they make such strange noises. I suppose Weyard held stranger though, and a few things on Earth could probably top it. Staggering towards a small clearing, the noise was coming from here, ahead I saw a manticore about to pounce on a small striped pony. Against my better judgement, I found the strength within myself for another small fight.
I ran up into the clearing and cast Guard on the pony, unsheathed the Sol Blade and turned to face the manticore. One again against my better judgement I decided to use a Psynergy move to get it over with faster. I cast Searing Beam. That manticore was pretty weak, it dropped as soon as my attack landed. With that over, I tried to turn to look at the pony. Tried. I really didn't think this out before hand. With the adrenaline gone I felt the weight of what I had done. I used more Psynergy then I had. Collapsing backwards I saw the sky was blue again after my flames and all. My vision began to fade, and the last thing I saw was the pony standing over me as it bent down. It looked like it was trying to pick me up. After I saw that, I reached my limit and slipped into unconsciousness.

Luna, ever the faster healer, recovered from the attack first. Pulling herself together and getting up on her hooves, she glanced at the destruction around her. The last attack the beast let out was fearsome indeed. I looked it launched a miniature sun at her and her sister, and it left a fair sized crater.. Luna looked around frantically for Celestia, to find her right next to each other in the crater. Gathering the magic in her horn and letting it out in the form of a healing spell on Celestia, Luna twitched thinking about the beast.
Sure, they had technically attacked first but that beast was ruthless. With the power to break out of it's stone prison and the enchanted room it was in, and the to paint the sky red with fire, surely this beast was not a friend to them. Luna remembered when they first had encountered it how pacifistic it seemed, even after setting their forest on fire. No, there was no doubt in her mind. This beast was evil. Still healing Celestia, Luna twitched again, she spoke under her breath. The tone with which she spoke would have frightened one of her subjects.
"You will die for this beast."

Were anypony around to listen they would have heard ominous laughter, but at that particular moment the Canterlot gardens were empty. If anypony was around to see a certain statue, they would have noticed it had a crack at it's base. This wouldn't be much of a problem were it any other statue, but this statue was different. Currently, it was laughing.
