Chapter 50: Retribution

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

"Do we have enough? Has word spread?" I asked looking over the crowd.

"I think so." Margaret answered. "At least fifty people for every town."
"Good."

I walked back to my room and gathered my things. Both my jacket and shirt were ruined, I left the shirt, but grabbed onto the jacket and carried it. I strapped the belt back to my waist and slipped on my shoes. I replaced the shades to my face and finally retrieved the white and red cloth. I tied it around my forehead and walked back out to the crowd.

I stood before them, the flag of our cause around my shoulders. "For too long have all of us went from time and time again to help each other, and it was all pointless. For too long have we lived in the shadows of our lives for what we've done. For too long has the grip of our sins and atrocities held us back. Today, now, That changes. Today we storm them and take back what is ours. Today we show we aren't weak. Today we end this!"

Everyone cheered and held fists and cried. They believed and knew many wouldn't come back, they still held strong. I looked down to the jacket, a hole through the chest. "Does anyone have a light?"

Someone passed up a book of matches. I took it and struck the match, lighting it. I held the fire to the jacket and it spread across it.

I walked down the stairs of the tavern and left through the door, the crowd marching behind me, tossing the jacket away to burn. A man hurried to me with a long piece of scrap wood and I accepted it. I tied the edge of the flag to the top and extended it upward. Everyone cheered and marched on. Twilight's flag flew forth. Marrow hopped up to my shoulder.

We all marched on, all the people from all the towns had gathered and followed. Even ones we hadn't reached but others had. An army had gathered and followed me. We made our way to the people filled city. The parties and marry making died down as they looked at us fearful. The fiery marks followed along my arm to my hand. The hilt was made and I held it skyward. The blade ignited and I yelled out for all to hear. "FREEEEDOM!"

I sprinted through the crowd, blade held high. The masses of people cheered out and rioted among the streets. Chaos. I ran in the direction of that giant fucker. I reached it and instead of opening the door or even kicking it, I slashed at it repeatedly and kicked it. Pieces flew through the air and scattered. The crowd inside looked on at me fearfully.

"Out." I said with fire in my voice.

Everyone poured out leaving the two of us.

I glared at him, my fist clenched to the hilt. I raised it to point at him. "Where is she" I snarled.

He let out a low chuckle. "You and all the others are pathetic. You know that, right?"

"So, the snake has a tongue. Who knew?"

"If you really want her." He grinned darkly.

With a wave of his hand a servant walked to his side, a silver tray in his hand with a lid. He stepped forward a bit and lifted the lid. My eyes widened in fury. A tear began to well in my eye at what I saw. On the tray lay Twilight's head, a loving gaze held on it.

"Now your feeling it, that's you life losing all meaning." He laughed.

I dropped to my knees, trembling in rage. A hand held to my face and my fingers pinched at the bridge of my nose.

"Your gonna fucking pay!"

"Draw your weapon. Thy sword and thy wrath will deliver you."

I got back up, gripping onto the sword with both hands. "I'm gonna unleash my anger, my hate, everything! I'm gonna take it all and fucking kill you with it!"

I sprinted for him. A trail of wetness traveling down my face.
