Chapter 55: Family reunion
Previous ChapterNext ChapterShe held on tightly as I road down a street with dozens of large and reminding houses. I parked in front of one I could I just faintly remember, but I knew it was it. I kicked out the stand and lifted off my bike, starting for the door with Twilight beside me. I felt a pit in my stomach deepen with every step taken up the concrete path. I stood in front of the door simply staring at it, my eyes giving away my feelings. Twilight wrapped her hand around mine reassuringly. I looked to her nervously and received a bright smile. My stomach eased and with greater confidence knocked on the door.
It took a minute before anything happened but I could hear foot steps come closer. An older woman opened the door. Her shoulder length hair and brown eyes felt so familiar. Her soft expression felt all the more motherly.
"Hello, can I help you?"
I couldn't help myself, I stepped up to her and hugged onto her tightly. My eyes felt strained and wet as I hugged her. I breathed heavily and tried to focus back on why I was there.
"Kian, call the neighborhood watch." She called back into the house.
A teenage boy with short brown hair and blue eyes ran up to the door and stood confused at the sight of me hugging her. The sight of him dampened my eyes more.
I let go of her and came to Kian with hug. "Oh my god, Kian."
His face seemed uncomfortable and I realized they both still didn't know who I was. I let go and took a step back to Twilight. I turned to them awkwardly.
"I-I'm sorry for that, that was rude." I looked to the woman. "If this is tough to believe I can understand. I'm your son."
"Oh come on." Kian said finding this ridiculous. "I'm seventeen and you don't even look much older than me, how could you be her son too?"
I still looked at the woman. "My name is James Donald Mink. Twenty-four years ago I was born. Sixteen years ago you and my father separated and he raised me on his own."
She looked at me with her own wet eye's. She hugged onto me tightly. "Oh my god, Donny. My little Donny. I can't believe this!"
Kian just stood there flabbergasted. "What?!"
"Kian, this is your older brother, James. When you were one and your father and I split. He took James and left me with you."
I let go and shared a glance with him.
He looked me over shaking his head. "There's no way. Not a chance in hell right now. There's just no way."
"Your name is Kian Charles Mink, you were born on March twenty-second. When you were little your eyes were pale-blue."
He stared at me shocked. "You're kidding. Somebody's punking us right?" He asked looking at our mother.
She shook her head.
He walked off from the door and sat down on a couch holding his head in his hands. "Whoa, this is heavy. I have a brother. Oh man."
My mother looked past me at Twilight standing in the door way waiting. "And who's this?"
I walked over to Twi and held an arm around her and took a deep breath. "Mom, this is Twilight."
They shared a smile and my mother looked up to me. "Come in, I can't believe this is happening."
I led Twilight in and closed the door behind us. My mother walked off to the kitchen and me and Twi sat down on the couch by Kian.
He was still having a hard time taking this in. He looked up to me. "You're really my brother?"
I nodded with a faint smile.
He leaned back. "Oh man. This, this is just-"
"Weird?" I said finishing his sentence.
"Yeah." He nodded. "Weird."
I wrapped an arm around his shoulder. "So just how much have I missed?"
