Chapter 8: Condolences (Raw)

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

I walked toward the small clearing by the side of the road and watched the cars go by. I held the gun firmly in my hand and took a deep breath. I knelt down and brought the revolver level with my sight. I looked over every scratch and sighed.

I could hear the faint footsteps of someone on the grass. I turned my head and saw Twilight out of the corner of my eye, watching attentively.

"Hey Twilight." I called to her.

"Hm,"

"You know what this is?" I asked her, holding the weapon awkwardly in the palm of my hand.

"No, what is it?" She asked curiously.

I snickered and answered her. "The worst thing in history to come into the hands of man."

I turned back to her. She now stood beside me, looking down at me nervously.

I looked back at the weapon and breathed. "I've been on both ends of these things more times than I could count. Every time the guy on the receiving end got shot."

"Does it...Hurt?" She asked looking at it.

I thought about it for moment and smirked. "Like hell."

Silence fell for a few painfully long moments before it was broken. "Twilight,"

"Huh?"

"You know what I'm thinking about right now, don't you?"

After a long pause she finally answered. "Maybe."

"Care to take a guess?"

"No."

Another moment of silence came, only to be broken again.

"You don't want to know how many times I've thought this over."

"How many?" She asked, taking that dare.

"Five,"

"So, are you going to do it?" She asked in a worried tone.

"No...No, that would be the easy way out."

I got up and walked back toward the lot, tucking the gun into the back of my pants. As I got back to the car a man came out of the restaurant, angrily walking toward us.

"HEY! BUDDY! You think your funny running out without paying?" He yelled as he got closer.

I turned to him as he finally got up to us and stood in front of me. His eyes seemed to widened as he finally saw how large I was. At Six-four I stood around six inches taller than him.

I looked at him then over to Twilight. "Oh, sorry about that." I said as I dug into my pocket and pulled out my wallet. I looked through it and handed him a twenty. "That should cover it, keep the change."

"Uh, Thanks." He said hurrying back toward the restaurant.

I looked back to Twilight who gave me an approving smile. I opened my door and sat back in the driver seat and pulled the revolver back out and stuffed it under the seat. As we pulled out of the lot back onto the road Twilight turned to me.

"Back there, you called me Twilight...So does that mean you believe me now?" She asked, seeming to finally feel comfortable.

"No, I didn't get any other name out of you so I went with it. There a problem?" I asked, focusing on the road.

"Nope, no problem at all." She answered smiling.

*Give criticism, don't just thumb down and leave. Give me a reason you don't like it.
Yes, I still want comments on these after all the progress.
