Scoota-ifs: Obsession

“Damn, why am I feeling like this? For Twilight of all ponies?!” A much older but still young Scootaloo complained to herself. “I-I mean, she’s so uncool! So unlike Rainbow Dash!” The orange mare shook her head. “Out of all the ponies, Twilight Sparkle became my light in the darkness….”

She thought back to how all of this came to be, how she fell in love with the adorkable librarian. The very sexy and adorkable librarian! She wanted to face-hoof herself for thinking that. Although, it was true….

XOX

It was a nice and breezy morning when this happened, a few years ago. Scootaloo, being Scootaloo, decided to try out a new aerial trick to follow Rainbow Dash in her hoofsteps. And, not just any trick but the thing that made Rainbow Dash the best pegasus, if not pony, in all of Equestria!

The Sonic Rainboom!

Yes, it was very foolish of her to try a trick that even Rainbow Dash only managed to perform a total of 5 times, up to that date. But to the young filly, that was the surest way to get closer to her idol.

So, just like her Cutie Mark Crusades, she did the unthinkable and stupidest thing that she could do. All with devastating results. Scootaloo found herself flying like a bullet, jumping from one cloud to another, her speed was increasing to the point that the invisible wind barrier surrounded her whole body.

Her cheeks were flapping against the wind, her eyes were tearing, and her excitement was at its full time fullest. 'This. Is. it!' She thought, 'I'm going to perform the Sonic Rainboom, just like my idol!'

Just as the wind barrier turned into a sharp cone, everything went the opposite of what she had originally planned. Surprise there, right? Her body felt like it was being squeezed to death and she felt the air leave her lungs.

The barrier finally slapped the little pegasus hard, as it sent her back, spiraling into her demise. She found herself falling far from Ponyville and straight towards the Everfree Forest! She felt a wing get scratched by a sharp and sturdy branch as she hit the tree's hard bark. She slid down, painfully, before landing in a small nest filled with pony bones of all sizes. The howl of timber-wolves nearby could be heard.

The last thing she saw was a shadow of a blue pegasus rushing towards her, surprised. Everything faded to black, afterwards.

Scootaloo finally awoke after what felt like hours to her. Out of her blurry vision she saw her pony of endearment, walking up to her.

"Oh, Scootaloo! I'm so glad that you are okay!" A voice that didn't sound like Rainbow Dash came out of her mouth. She rubbed her eyes as her vision cleaned a bit more and she asked with hesitation, "Fluttershy?"

"No, silly!" She giggled. The form of Flutershy quickly vanished and the creamy yellow coat was overwhelmed about by a light purple. "You must have hit your head harder than I thought."

Twilight came up to her and nuzzled her neck before going to switch the cold towels on Scootaloo's head with new hot ones.

Scootaloo tried to move her forelegs but found that one was too numb and hurt, while the other one was placed in a makeshift cast.

She looked at her surrounding to find herself in a part of the library that she never went to before. There was a large window next to the bed that showed her it was still dark as the moon was shining down on her. The strangest and slightly interesting thing about where she was bedding, though, was that the room was like a small secret library. 'Hay, the bed is sitting on top of the books, lame!'

This must be her bedroom.

Typical Twilight, like Rainbow Dash would say, what an egghead!

"You really worried me there." Twilight's voice rang out.

Back then, she thought nothing of the care and warmth held in the purple unicorn's tone. Now just hearing Twilight speak with such worry for her sent shivers down her spine and up her wings. But that was a one time thing, she rarely got hurt enough for Twilight to care for her, even when she did get hurt enough, she was sent to the hospital.

"I'm fine!" Scootaloo said louder than she intended. She was in a foul mood at the time and her words came out meaner than she had wanted. Twilight stood there smiling with a short wince before she placed the new hot towel on Scootaloo.

"Young girls shouldn't be doing dangerous stunts like that." Twilight cooed.

"Shut it, Twi." It was too late to take back the words that she would later regret. Though, Twilight took it in stride, marking it as a typical Scootaloo mood. She was so naive in that sense. One of the things that made Scootaloo later fall in love with her.

Her adorkableness.

"It looks like you'll have to be here for about a week before you fully heal up." Before, Scootaloo moaned and complained. Now, she could only wish that she could get more chances like those.

As the days went by, many of Twilight's close friends came to visit her, they even came to visit Scootaloo with a get-well present. Occasionally, the other Cutie Mark Crusaders would come and pay her a visit.

But what really sent her heart a flutter, was that the Rainbow Dash would come and cheer her up with her tales of glory. She noticed that Rainbow Dash came more frequently, heh Twilight was rubbing off on her, than the others.

Most of the time Rainbow Dash would come and see Scootaloo but on other times, it felt like she had…other arrangements.

Scootaloo was sleeping peacefully one night when she heard the window opening. 'Rainbow Dash?' There was only one pony that did that. She learned of Rainbow's habits of coming through the window, instead of being a normal pony and coming through the door, from her short time at Twilight's.

For some reason, she felt compelled to clench her eyes shut, pretending to be asleep so that the other mare didn't notice. Rainbow Dash flew through the air lightly, occasionally touching the floor with a light and hollow thump. She quickly hurried towards the light in the doorway and vanished.

It was nighttime and her idol was obviously not here for Scootaloo, so she was curious. Scootaloo remembered that Rainbow had a new obsession with a book about Daring Do, it was a favorite book of hers. too. Maybe, that's what Rainbow came for? It was strange but she wouldn't put it pass Rainbow Dash to do that.

Scootaloo was in much better shape now, thanks to Twilight Sparkle's care, so she was able to get out of bed and follow the sneaky sky blue pegasus.

There was a small orange glow that could only come from one source.

There in one corner of the library, sat Twilight reading multiple tomes. Nearby, Spike was nestled into his basket, sleeping with a claw hanging out. He must've been taking care of Twilight's reading habits until he got knocked out cold, Scootaloo laughed inwardly to herself.

From where she stood, Scootaloo saw Rainbow Dash stop her flapping and land softly on the floor. She started to tiptoe gently, without a sound, towards Twilight.

At first, Scootaloo expected Rainbow to do one of her pranks and scare the living daylights out of the librarian. Instead, Rainbow came up gently behind Twilight, rising on two hind legs, and wrapped her hooves around Twilight's eyes as she lunged downward.

The books held in Twilight's magic shook for a bit but returned to their rigid stance after a moment.

"Guess, who?" Rainbow Dash leaned close and whispered into one of Twilight's ears. Scootaloo noticed that Rainbow's wings were extended at full length and her tail was swishing back and forth.

"Rainbow," Twilight said without hesitation. "Are you here for another reading succession? It's a little late don't you think?"

"And it's not late for you?" Rainbow laughed making Twilight blush. She leaned in so far that her cheeks were squished beside Twilight's. "It's never too late to be with you." Rainbow said huskily. This was a different side of Rainbow Dash that Scootaloo ever had seen.

What came next surprised both Scootaloo and Twilight. Rainbow Dash turned Twilight around and pushed her onto her back. The magic holding the books died out as they all came tumbling down.

The blue mare jumped down on Twilight and kissed her right on the lips!

Scootaloo's jaw dropped.

From that night, she realized that Rainbow Dash was slowly courting Twilight. It's been going on ever since Scootaloo's stay at the library. Who knew how long it was before Scootaloo came. She quickly ran back to her place in the bed and pretended as if nothing had happened.

Now, whenever she saw Rainbow Dash come by, she would notice the small signs that she never had noticed before. What made the Rainbow Dash, her idol, want to make Twilight hers? Maybe it was one of Rainbow's flings? No, this one seemed genuine.

Twilight hasn't really been returning Rainbow Dash's advances but she wasn't pushing them away, either.

This made Scootaloo extremely curious, what made the Dashing Dash, want Twilight of all ponies? She made it her mission to find out before she finished her stay at Twilight's home. This could also bring her a chance to get a Cutie Mark, maybe hers would be hearts or a magnifying glass for solving the mystery of love!

The more she watched Twilight the less she understood about Rainbow's desire for the librarian. Her horn was an average size among unicorns. Twilight had a big soft flank, compared to most ponies. Probably from her stationary and boring life as a librarian. She had a soft fluffy coat that she needed to brush every morning or she'd look like a giant adorkable hairball. She….

Scootaloo shook her head. She was supposed to be learning about why Rainbow liked Twilight not falling in love with the egghead!

But as she observed more, she couldn't really find a concrete reason. Twilight was nice, caring, smart, a bit naive, but that didn't seem like enough to say 'love'.

To her disappointment, she found nothing to report and no Cutie Mark. She was finally released from Twilight's care and sent home.

XOX

That was what started it all for her, for her to fall in love with the librarian. A sad thought came to her mind, she started falling in love when she saw that her idol was courting the purple unicorn.

Did that mean that she was only interested in Twilight Sparkle because her idol was?

"I hope that's not true," Scootaloo groaned. Ever since she fell in love with Twilight, it felt like her world was spinning in circles.

XOX

A few years after the incident, Twilight finally reciprocated Rainbow Dash's feelings. Their friends were surprised to hear their declaration of love and Pinkie Pie's reaction was to throw a giant party, for close friends, of course.

As crazy as Pinkie Pie was, even she knew that this was something hard for many ponies to swallow. Even Scootaloo was invited, to her dismay. She fell in love with Twilight but it was too late, there was nothing that she could do, she reasoned. The party was fun and all but it was just all so awkward, at least, for her.

"Hey, Twilight…how did you fall in love with Rainbow Dash? I mean, how did you make it work? If you don't mind my asking?" Fluttershy asked with curiosity. Many of her other friends chimed in.

"I guess it was a little weird," Twilight chuckled as she watched Rainbow Dash talking to the Cutie Mark Crusaders. She talked to all of them except for Scootaloo, who found herself hanging out with the other Cutie Mark Crusaders less and less.

"I mean, Rainbow Dash is pretty young, don't you think? Especially since I'm a bit older than her." Twilight looked over at Rainbow Dash longingly. "But she was just so…persuasive? She just wouldn't let go no matter how much excuses I made. Until I finally agreed to go on a mock date with her. Boy, was that awkward!"

"Don't hold the juicy bits back, darling!" Rarity was eager to hear as she chewed her lettuce leaf to death.

"Well, it first started when she came in to my library looking for Scootaloo." Twilight shook her head. "She genuinely was looking for her but as time went on, she would just say that she would pass the time reading books to wait for Scootaloo to pop up."

"Well, darn! That little pegasus had more moxy than I took 'er for!" Applejack laughed. "I mean I knew dat she weren't the brightest bulb in the shed but wow!"

"It's so romantic…," Fluttershy sighed. "And so forbidden…I'm sorry!"

"Indeed! So forbidden! That's the loveliest tale I have ever heard! Ever! I mean, it's possibly, the best romanctic love!"

"At least she's a bit older, now. It makes it a bit easier for everypony to swallow. Boy, when she first confessed her feelings to me I was frozen solid. I didn't know what to say!"

"She won one of the finest pearls in the sea, I'll say that, dear."

Scootaloo could hear the mares talk and was not in the mood to listen on it anymore as she walked out of the library.

"Hey! Scootaloo!" Rainbow Dash came running out, moments later. "Wait up!"

"Oh, hey, Rainbow Dash…," Scootaloo tried to muster up her old enthusiasm of meeting her idol but couldn't bring up a convincing enough act.

"Hey, Squirt, wanna fly and do some tricks since we both can fly now?" Rainbow Dash smiled.

"Nah…I don't think I'm in the mood for it…." The orange filly replied.

"Oh…? I'm sorry, maybe next time?" Rainbow Dash had an eager expression but knew not to push any further.

"Twilight Sparkle loves Rainbow Dash, how can I compete with that?!" Scootaloo moaned into the cloud that she was laying on.

"Twilight loves Rainbow…," Scootaloo repeated. "She loves…Rainbow Dash." She shook her head. "Rainbow Dash…!"

Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash.

"That's it! I just have to become Rainbow Dash!"

Scootaloo went home and immediately grabbed a can of rainbow paint, painting her mane and tail. Next, she painted her coat blue. If her eyes didn't already match Rainbow's, she would have used colored lenses.

She observed herself in the mirror with glee. "Hee, hee! Just like Rainbow Dash! Now Twilight will have to love me!"

Scootaloo went straight to the library to show Twilight her new look. She knocked at the door and waited impatiently for the door to open.

"Coming, coming!" A young male voice spoke from the other side. Moments later, she found Spike staring her down as he opened the door.

"Oh! Hey, Scootaloo! What are you doing here?" Spike exclaimed in surprise before he was roughly pushed to the side.

"Where's Twilight?" Scootaloo said without any emotion or kindness in her voice.

"Twilight? She's at her lab right now, I wouldn't bother—" Spike found that he was alone as he turned to face Scootaloo. "I…I guess you can go? Ponies, who know?" He sighed as he shut the door and went back to his comics.

The young pegasus slowly opened the door to the basement, the sounds of bolts of electricity could be heard. She walked down the steps with hesitation as she peered over to the side to see what Twilight was doing.

"Yes! Yes! Yes!" Twilight could be seen laughing manically. She was dressed in a white lab-coat with black eye protectors on and rubber gloves on all of her legs.

More bolts of lightning could be heard as Twilight pulled down a large electric rod to zap something on her desk with. As Scootaloo got closer to the bottom, she realized what exactly Twilight was doing.

"I've made it! I've made…the perfect toast!" Twilight declared as she lifted the crispy bread up with her horn to admire its perfection. "No crumbs! No broken edges! It's a perfect square piece of crispy bread! Yes!"

Scootaloo giggled to herself as she watched Twilight's display. This was another cute trait that Twilight had, her over-thinking that made her turn small things into a big deal.

"Spike? I thought I told you to not come down here!" Twilight turned around after dropping her toast, which promptly split in half when it landed on the desk. The 'perfect toast' no longer perfect. "Sc-Scootaloo? What are you doing here?" She pulled up her goggles to get a better look at Scootaloo.

"I came to show you my new look!" Scootaloo said with a smile. She turned circles in a full gallop to show Twilight her coat.

"Umm…that's nice?" Twilight wasn't sure if painting oneself was a normal thing. Clearly, the paint was still wet since it was dripping off of the pegasus's mane. The splotchy paint job was more than enough to cut her guard down. "The paint's very pretty…and wet? I like that you…chose blue for your coat and rainbow for your mane and tail." Twilight took a big gulp and looked to the side as she kept her eyes on Scootaloo. "Is there something wrong, Scootaloo? Something I can help you with?"

Scootaloo's smile dropped and she frowned. 'Twilight thinks I've gone mad, doesn't she?! She has a look of pity!' She thought with crazed eyes. "It's-It's just something I wanted to show you. I thought you might like it." Scootaloo said with a blank stare.

Twilight found the look that Scootaloo was giving her a bit unnerving. She rubbed the back of her head with a forced smile. "I-I think it's nice but perhaps you can do with…a different set of colors? After all, I think that the blue is kind of pointless on you, don't you think? Your natural coat is much more efficient."

Scootaloo returned home shortly afterwards. Her head was down as she chastised herself for her stupidity.

A few years back, before the whole incident, she decided to buy a home similar to her idol, up in the clouds. Most pegasi found it easier to live in a cloudless home since Ponyville was on the ground, what was the point of a cloud home if everything you needed was on the ground floor? It was a waste of bits to bring in super dense clouds to make their homes.

She looked over at her home, it was an exact replica of Rainbow Dash's. The rainbow waterfall, the fountain, everything was just like Dash's home.

"I'm some sort of stalker, aren't I?"

Scootaloo walked into her home, each wall was adorned with many posters. They had the Wonderbolts doing various poses, a few even depicted Rainbow Dash.

There was even a trophy set in the corner that held a medal that said 'Best Young Flier' among other rewards. She had set out to win some of the rewards that Rainbow Dash earned when she was younger.

'Following her every step of the way….' Scootaloo smiled. "She's so cool, how can no one else want to be like her? She has the looks, the talents, and the girl!"

In the corner of the room a round green shell stirred. The occupant slowly moved his head out of his shell, waking up from hearing her voice. The tortoise gave her a long and slow blink as he looked at her form.

"Tank!" Scootaloo hovered over to the sleepy reptile. "I'm so sorry that I haven't been home to see you lately." She wrapped her hooves in a hug around the large shelled creature. 'Tank' just looked at her wistfully, accepting the hug with a small smile.

"You know I've been busy since I've been checking up on Rainbow Dash and her mare-friend." Scootaloo dropped the tortoise as a propeller shot out of his shell and he flew beside her. His smile slowly thinned as he started to frown, knowingly.

If he could talk, he would have told her that she needed to see a doctor, that her obsession was tearing her inside out. Or, at least, comfort her in her moment of weakness. All he could do as her pet was listen. Which was enough.

He watched as his owner ran up her stairs, he decided that he should go back to his business. It was best to let her calm down.

Up in her room, Scootaloo had paint and paper all over the walls and floor, even on the ceiling. The papers were paintings of Twilight Sparkle, a few were posters of plans that she had on wooing the mare or becoming closer to Rainbow Dash.

In the center of the room laid Scootaloo huffing and puffing with a crazed smile on her lips. "I did everything I could think of to copy Rainbow Dash! I took her looks, I took her home, her tricks! What else am I missing?!"

Her vision fell onto one of the Twilight posters, this one was a photo that was stretched out. It was one of her precious photos, this one had Twilight with her mane drooping wet as she was taking a shower. It was one of the hardest photos for her to take, the fog from the showers made it difficult to catch Twilight's whole face and body without fogging up the lens.

"That's what I'm missing!" Scootaloo declared. "I need a mare-friend, I need Twilight!" She quickly turned in a whiplash to see another poster, this one had Rainbow Dash. "But…she already has Rainbow Dash." Her frown turned into a crooked smile as her eyes cross. "What am I saying, I am Rainbow Dash! She's already my mare-friend!"

XOX

'Rainow Dash' landed on the square in Ponyville with a stride in her steps. She went to the market to buy a bundle of roses and chocolates, quickly making a beeline for one house. The library.

She ignored the strange looks that the other ponies were giving her, they were invisible in her eyes and didn't matter. She had added an extra coat of paint today to help her play the role.

When she arrived to the front doors, she slowly raised a hoof to knock on the door until an idea came to her. A crooked smile rose to her lips, 'I'm Rainbow Dash! Rainbow doesn't knock on Twilight's door…!' She spread out her wings and flew over to one of the library windows and barged right in.

"Oh! Scootaloo, what are you doing here?" Twilight asked surprised as she looked up from the book she was reading. She wasn't expecting anypony to be sneaking into her bedroom.

"I…! I want you!" Scootaloo declared, ignoring her surroundings and pushing her way towards Twilight. The unicorn, frightened, started backing away from the crazed pegasus.

"B-But, Scootaloo! I'm in love with Rainbow Dash, I'm sorry, I only like you as a friend!" Twilight found herself backed up against one of the bookshelves. If only being Celestia's student taught her how to prepare for something like this. Her life as a librarian haven't really gave her the body to fight off an athletic pegasus.

"I am not Scootaloo, I am Rainbow Dash!" Scootaloo roared as she placed both forelegs on either side of Twilight's head, preventing her from escaping. She leaned in between the nook of Twilight's neck and blew a hot breath.

At this point, the librarian started to tear up as hot waters ran down her eyes. "What do you mean, Scootaloo? You're scaring me!"

"I. Said. I. Am. Rainbow. Dash!" Scootaloo growled under her teeth and pressed her forehead against Twilight's.

"I d-don't get it? Of course, you are Rainbow Dash, but I'm in love with Scootaloo!" Now Twilight started gushing out rivers as she cried hot tears, her eyes were burning red.

'Scootaloo' backed away in shock. With her grip gone, Twilight fell down to the floor, Twilight rolled up into a ball, weeping.

Scootaloo looked around to see a tall mirror in the room. She looked confused at 'Rainbow Dash' staring back at her. She raised a hoof to her chin to wipe away the blue paint, only to realize that the paint had stained her coat so much that her orange coat was nonexistent. Or wait, that's not paint, is it?

"I am Rainbow Dash?"

"Twilight!" A boyish voice rang out in the room as the door was slammed open. "R-Rainbow? What's going on?" A young adult Scootaloo burst into the room with panic. "I heard Twilight cry-Oh, my gosh! Twilight!"

"What happened?" Scootaloo grabbed Twilight in her forelegs, trying to stop the tears running down the unicorn's face.

Rainbow Dash looked solemn as she watched the two mares. Memories flashed of how she first heard the news about Scootaloo courting Twilight. Of how the young filly first tried to be more like Rainbow Dash until she fell in love with Twilight. Then the memories of her, Rainbow Dash, trying to perform another Sonic Rainboom in an attempt to wash her regrets. Only for her to end up in Twilight's care, leading up to these events.

"I was so jealous."

How could the Rainbow Dash lose to the Squirt?

Simple, she was just not fast enough.
