Katie Minthorn's Rather Odd Day
Well, then? Part Two
Previous ChapterSo I finished organizing myself as best I could, and promptly sat down on my rear end with my ML3DS in hand. I put the earbuds in just as the rest of the classmates show up whilst chatting. They sat down, still jabbering, then the bell rings again. The announcements start, but I hardly heard a word of it (aside from the Alma Mater) because, no matter how many times the substitute tried to quell it, the jabbering persisted. (My classmates did this every day until Mr. Sparkhooves silenced them.)
And this was where the fun would begin. Everyone, save me, Mr. Bitch-and-Moan-A-Lot and Devonte, had left to go to their classes. I finished my art III assignments yesterday, so I basically did nothing but play The Four Heroes of Light and keep one earbud out so I could listen to whatever Miss Ellihorn and the substitute wanted me to do, if they wanted me to do something. For the time being, though, they were chatting with one another about this and that. Bitch-and-Whine a few desks over was busy trying to do his work, albeit at a snail's pace.
Devonte, on the other hand, turned to me in his desk and asked the same exact question he did the last time he looked at me. I merely shot a glare back at him before resuming my own game-playing.
"Devonte," Miss Ellihorn started, causing me to pry my face from the dual screens to glance at her, "why aren't you doing your work? You know you're not supposed to be playing games in class."
"But she's playing games! Why can't I?!" Devonte replied, pointing a finger at me.
"That's because she's finished all of her work!" Miss Ellihorn exclaims, looking at the colt with a worried look more than an angry look on her face. "You haven't done a single assignment, not one! Please, put that down and get to work!"
Devonte grumbled to himself, but I really couldn't make out what he was saying with music at highest volume blasting into one ear. It wasn't too loud, so I didn't lose an eardrum. He just kept on trying to play on the damn thing, but with no game cartridge, that was like telling a tiger to get rid of its stripes. The substitute tries telling him the same thing Miss Ellihorn did, but it simply fell on deaf ears.
So then he sits there not following instructions for the next thirty minutes, and then he asks me just one more time to get ahold of one of my cartridges. I shake my head just as I get to a boss on Four Heroes: namely, a dragon. Miss Ellihorn then sighs and says, "Devonte, put the MLDS on my desk please."
The colt refused. "But I just got this today!" He protests. His eyes were wide.
"Where?" Miss Ellihorn asks. I took out my other earbud--this I had to hear.
"From a friend! She gave it to me!" Devonte answers. This causes me to arch a brow--sounds like he stole it to me, considering his eyes are still wide as dinner plates.
"Did she give it to you for you to keep?" The substitute asks.
"No--I mean, yes!" Devonte answers. Yep, suspicions confirmed.
Miss Ellihorn gets up and hobbles to him, takes the MLDS (and a case that he had on his person as well), then hobbles back to her desk with it in tow.
"Why'd you take it? I don't want to be bored all day!" Devonte whines. He looks at the parapro with pleading eyes, and I wanted to burst out laughing so hard then and there, but I kept it in.
"Because you're not doing your work!" Miss Ellihorn answers. Hadn't she said this once already? What I'm trying to say was Devonte was a dense colt--very dense, and not to mention stubborn.
"Now I have to be bored all day..." Devonte grumbled, the rest of his words I couldn't make out. Bell rings then, I go to art class (for real), do whatever the art teacher says, then come back during third period.
Momentarily, Mr. Sparkhooves entered the classroom. Miss Ellihorn gives him the scoop, and I'll skip the lecture (can't remember exactly what it was), though I will note Devonte was hauled right to the office--as well as his stolen cargo. I was bored of my ML3DS at the time, so I merely began to doodle here and there in my spiral-bound notebook.
Yep, that was the brunt of today. Nothing else noteworthy happened, unless you want to hear about my game-playing sessions or my doodles or lunchtime or something. Now, where is that damn horn concealer...?
