"It has been almost 1,000 years since King Sombra was defeated by the Crystal Heart. Not many ponies remember him anymore. But what's the story that lies between the Empire and King Sombra? What happened to him? Will..Will he ever return?" Solar Eclipse, Celestia's student asked her as she was studying about the Crystal Empire. Celestia sighed. For she thought that Solar was not ready to know yet. But she knew that Solar was going to know anyway. "About 1,000 years ago, King Sombra tried to take over the Empire. He treated the Crystal Ponies as slaves when he was in rule. When the Empire is filled with hope and love, it would have a effect on the Crystal Heart. It would protect the Empire from danger and many say that they all are filled with joy and laughter. But when the Empire is filled with hatred and fear, the Crystal Ponies' coats turned dull and it would not be crystallized as it would be. Their hearts would be filled with sadness. But I believe it would not be possible for him to return." Solar thought carefully. What if he was going to return? "Could be.. But after 1,000 years of Nightmare Moon's banish, she was released, and Discord was freed from 1,000 years of being turned to stone. Could this mean..that King Sombra would be able to return? This is the 1,000th year ever since you banished him." Celestia stood up. What if Solar was right? "If that we're to happen...we must be ready to take action. We must not hesitate from protecting Equestria." For the next few days, Celestia watched out for anything suspicious. She tried not to act too worried, but Princess Twilight and Solar could see it easily.
