Fluttershy walked into the party Twilight had dragged her to with her head down. The music was loud—overwhelming—booming through the speakers somepony somehow afforded. She jumped when she bumped into someone, a “Sorry, excuse me,” escaping her lips.
Twilight had left her side to chat with some friends, and Fluttershy sighed softly, going to the table to get a cupcake. It was then that she saw her. Her eyes went wide and she nearly choked on the sweet she’d taken a bite out of a moment before. That pony—she might have been the most beautiful pony Fluttershy had ever seen.
She was pink, and her cutie mark was—were those balloons? Her curly mane and tail bounced as she danced with a wide smile, looking like she was having the time of her life.
I have to meet her, Fluttershy thought immediately, feeling butterflies in her stomach at the thought of actually talking to the other pony. She blushed furiously when somepony nudged her and asked, “Hey, what are you looking at over there?”
“N-nothing,” she answered, looking over at the other quickly. Blue. This new pony is a sky blue. “Say, who’s that pink pony over there?” she asked quietly, trying to sound casual.
“Pinkie Pie? She’s…something, that’s for sure. She’s certainly an odd one,” the mysterious stranger answered.
Curious, Fluttershy asked, “How so?”
“Well, for one, there’s her boyfriend.” Fluttershy’s heart dropped. Of course she had a boyfriend. “He…he reminds me a lot of that pony Stardust Shimmer. Hey, didn’t you used to date her?”
Fluttershy blushed, nodding. Stardust had been her first (and only) girlfriend. She squinted her eyes. That pony Pinkie Pie was dancing with really did look like Stardust. “Excuse me,” she said to the stranger, walking toward the duo.
She knew this was a bad idea; she got pushed around in the crowd trying to make her way through. She finally spotted the two again, stuttering out a name in a voice much louder than she’s used for a long time. “Stardust?”
Stardust turned around, a puzzled look on her—er, his?—face. “Fluttershy?”
Pinkie Pie turned to her as well, and the way she smiled at her made Fluttershy melt.
“Uh, hi. Could I possibly—uh, maybe we—well what I mean to say is—“ she took a deep breath, closing her eyes. Be calm. Concentrate. “Could we all do some chatting? Like to get to know each other? Or, well,” she looked at Stardust, “some catching up?”
Stardust looked between the two of them before sighing and nodding. “Sure; let me introduce you guys.”
As the three of them left the loud room, Fluttershy couldn’t help but be thankful that Twilight made her go. She could get to know Pinkie Pie (and get reacquainted with Stardust), even if they couldn’t be anything more than friends.
