Who is Dusk Chaser?

The moon was out. Stars lit up the sky. It was another beautiful night in Equestria and around half of the population was asleep. Luna decided that it would be a good idea to show Aria around Canterlot. Dusk agreed to join and Celestia decided that she cold stay awake a while longer. Of course, the tour wouldn't be complete if the rest of Aria's new friends didn't join. Luna, Dusk, Aria, and Celestia were to meet up with Starshine, Silver Haze, Blacklightning, and Ravenger. "I can't thank you all enogh! I can't beleive I get to see the whole of Canterlot." said Aria.

"No problem." said Luna.

"Yeah, although..." said Dusk.

"W-what?" asked Aria.

"You have to tell me more about bat ponies." said Dusk.

"Ok!" replied Aria.

"So, where are we supposed to meet our friends?" asked Celestia.

"They said we would meet them near Blacklightning and Ravenger's lab." said Dusk.

"Ok then, that isn't to far." said Luna.

"Let's go!" said Aria. With that, they flew off.

Soon enough, they landed in front of Blacklightning and Ravenger's home. "Hey guys!" said Ravenger.

"Hello." said Luna, Dusk, and Celestia. Aria just hid behind them.

"Oh come on Aria, say hello." said Luna.

"H-hello again Blacklightning, Ravenger." said Aria.

"So, where are Starshine and Silver Haze?" asked Dusk.

"I don't know..." replied Ravenger. Suddenly, Starshine arrived.

"Sorry I'm late, I had to get something... special." said Starshine.

"What did you get?" asked Luna.

"This." said Starshine showing the group a map.

"What is this a map to?" asked Dusk.

"Uhm... it's a map to the Great Bat Cave. That's where most bat ponies live." said Aria.

"Neat! What do you say gang? Should we just go to the Great Bat Cave?" asked Dusk.

"YEAH!" shouted everypony in unison, except Aria.

"NO! Bat ponies normally move out of there after birth. Only the mother bats stay there. Any other creatures are considered intruders." said Aria.

"Oh come on... I never got to see that place. I wasn't born there like you." said Dusk.

"Uhm..." said Aria, really unsure and nervous.

"Ok then! Let's go!" said Silver Haze. Everypony set of to the Great Bat Cave. Along the way, Dusk learned more and more about bat ponies.

"So Aria, tell us more about our species." said Dusk.

"Uhm... well first thing, there are two sub-species of bat pony, fruit eaters and blood drinkers, as you probably already know." said Aria. "The life span of a bat pony is significantly longer than any other pony except alicorns."

"Neat. Anything else?" asked Dusk.

"Well, blood drinkers lives are slightly longer than fruit eaters. As you can probably tell, most bat ponies are nocturnal." said Aria.

"How are some able to stay awake at morning then?" asked Celestia.

"Well that has to do with the first few bat ponies." Aria started. "A long time ago, a pegasus was said to have given birth to the first bat pony. This bat pony was a stallion. This bat pony became friends with the king and queen of that time. The king was responsible for the morning and the queen the night. Soon after, the king and queen's lives were at risk. An evil being threatened the kingdom. The bat pony decided to help his friends. He was incredibly loyal to them. The being was destroyed but unfortunately the  king was killed."

"Wow! What happened next?" asked Luna. By now, the entire group stopped walking and sat around Aria listening to her like a storyteller.

"Because of this, the first royal guards were formed." said Aria.

"I never learned that at the guard school." said Dusk.

"The history was lost through time." said Aria. "So, the bat pony became the first captain of the royal guards. He guarded his friend he best he could. Unfortunately, he had difficulty doing this due to his sleep cycle. He was able to change this cycle by sleeping continuously for one entire night, waking up by dawn. This trait allowed him to guard the queen during the morning while she slept. To this day bat ponies can alter their sleep cycle to follow th sleep cycles of those around them."

"Neat." said Starshine.

"That's also why bat ponies are somehow related to you Luna." said Aria.

"Huh? Why?" asked Luna.

"The bat ponies that followed the first were children of the next queen. The bat pony's child was also a bat pony and the queen's new child was a mare. The two children grew closer and closer to each other as they grew and their children were bat ponies. Each of their children each found their own families and started the bat ponies."

"What else can you tell us?" asked Blacklightning.

"Well, bat ponies are adept fliers, the aerodynamic design of our wings make bat ponies significantly faster than most pegasi. We also have abilities of echolocation and night vision. Normally, bat ponies are born in the Great Bat Cave but there are a few exceptions." said Aria, pointing to Dusk. "Even though it is possible for bat ponies to be born of other ponies, it is really rare."

"Well, that was informative." said Blacklightning.

"Yeah, but if we want to reach the Great Bat Cave, we have to keep moving." said Ravenger. The rest of the group stood up and continued on their route to the Great Bat Cave.

"What can you tell us about the cave?" asked Starshine.

"Well, every time a bat pony couple gives birth, they live in the cave until the foal learns to fly. After that, the foal is left alone. The foal uses it's echolocation and smelling to locate its parents. This is how bat ponies learn their survival skills." said Aria.

"Then why don't you know where your parents are?" asked Dusk. A tear formed in Aria's eye as she started to cry.

"Dusk, that was rude, it's not like you." said Luna.

"Yeah." said Celestia, they then proceeded to comfort Aria.

"I-i'm sorry Aria, I didn't mean to bring it up like that." said Dusk. Aria wiped a tear from her eye before speaking.

"I-it's ok. B-but if you still want to know, I couldn't find my parents because I have trouble with echolocation. My throat can't properly make screeches." said Aria. "Come on, let's go to the cave. Hopefully, nopony will threaten us while we're there."

"Yeah, let's go. And sorry again for a while ago." said Dusk.

"It's fine Dusk, really." said Aria. The friends continued to walk to the Great Bat Cave. Luckily for them, it was still morning so there wasn't any difficulty in their route. After hours and hours of walking and talking, they reached the Great Bat Cave.
