Twilight Finds The Death Note

Five mares wandered around the corridors of Canterlot Castle. But one pony in particular was quite fired up, Rainbow Dash.

"I still can't believe he kicked us out!" she said as they left the castle.

"Well, we did go into his room without permission," replied Fluttershy timidly, "which makes me wonder why Celestia didn't tell us there was another pony living there in the first place."

"I think trying to understand Celestia is like bucking a dead tree. You can do it for as long as you want but isn't gonna get you anywhere," Reasoned Applejack while she looked at one of the tall trees in the royal garden - which they had trotted into after leaving the castle. "Anyway, we have worse things to worry about," she continued. "Like where we're going to sleep tonight."

All of them thought for a moment and of course it was Pinkie Pie who broke the silence. Jumping up and down, she pointed to a large building beyond the courtyard, "Look, look!" she shouted, "There's a hotel over there! If we all pitch in we might be able to get a room big enough for the five of us."

Rarity reached into her bag and presented ten bits, "I brought twenty bits just in case I saw some fabric I needed back at the boutique. I suppose you can use half of them."

Applejack gave seven, Pinkie Pie gave ten, Fluttershy gave five and Rainbow Dash gave eight.

"And that brings us to a total of...  Forty bits! That's more than enough! Let's go!" Pronounced the white unicorn as she gathered up the money and started her way into the streets of Canterlot.

Night shine stood with his ear to the door, trying to listen in on the conversation between Twilight and the mysterious voice. He could only hear the occasional word and even that was greatly muffled. "This isn't fair! How come whenever I want to hear something it's so quiet and when I'm studying everypony and their mom is screaming in my ear!" Huffing, Night levitated his figurines back into the cases and placed them onto the highest shelf!

His room was dusty and had spiderwebs in almost every corner. Unhappy with the amount of mess, he reluctantly retired to his bed.  Imagine what the princess would think! I'll tidy up tomorrow, hopefully... He finally closed his eyes and started to drift off into a deep sleep but was awoken by a loud yet slow creaking noise.

He tightened his eyelids trying to ignore the pony standing in the doorway. "Hi! I made you something," Twilight held some blueberries and two daisies which were placed delicately on a china plate.

I swear if she says one mo-

"Night Shine?”

The colt sat up in a flash, "WHY ARE YOU WAKING ME UP AT...?" He looked at the clock next to his bed, "TWO IN THE MORNING!"

Twilight hung her head and tried to act sad, "You see, when you came in you ran up here so fast you didn't have time to get something to eat. So, I figured I would be a good guest and make you dinner!"

Night Shine turned his head and said smugly, "I had something to eat at the meeting. Anyway, I doubt anything you made could be even remotely nice!"

The alicorn's ears perked up when she heard the remark about the meeting. "Meeting? What meeting? Was it an important one?" She asked frantically.

"I work with my mentor and her sister on the Kira investigation. Now I wonder why you would ask that. Well, now that you have helped me in no way can you lea-"

"Why the hay is a COLT taking part in the KIRA investigation?"

Tired of Twilight's strange behavior, Night sighed and explained, "I used to attend an academy that trains young colts and fillies to find the right jobs that correspond with their cutie marks. Due to me being a black flank it was a great difficulty getting in.”

"My grandparents worked a few extra shifts and soon enough i was being sent to the lowest tear classes in the investigator course! I was able to choose my classes and investigation seemed interesting. I showed potential so I was moved up a tear.”

"To my surprise, Princess Luna herself flagged me down and I was accepted into personal classes with her. When the Kira thing came up the princesses were some of the top ponies for the job and since I'm Luna's apprentice I was allowed to help!"

Twilight sat at the side of the bed, having long forgotten about the food, her mouth a wide gape. However, she pulled herself out of it fairly quickly. Shaking her head, Twilight stood up and asked before leaving the room, "So is that it?..."

"Get out." Night said, unamused.
